I've driven from Texas to Guatamala and back twice and it's been our daily shared short journey car inbetween hammering over the Sierra Madres . As a family we really hammer this car with dog in the back, camping gear on the roof and sometimes bikes on a rack at rear. I've had to change the thermostat and the waterpump. The rear lights went out so I had to fix the wiring with electrical tape and just a week ago a rear side window stopped opening so I'll have to fix that. It started using oil about 30k ago and so between oil changes I have to top it up with a pint or two.. I change the oil every 5k +/- and have done the transmission services on time. We had a 2013 with the V6 and no issues with just over 100K miles. We traded for a 2017 Journey GT with the V6 and it is now over 100K without any issues. Just normal maintenance. I even tow my 18' roundabout boat with it. We normally get 27 mpg on the highway, towing the boat is 17 mpg and running in 5th gear on the highway, towing at 70 mph. No issues.
My niece almost bought a 2009 Dodge Journey thank god for you mechanics on UA-cam. The current owner said AC don't work. Watched this video told her dont buy it.
Bought my wife a 2013 Journey Crew with ALL the bells & whistles. She only has 58000 Miles on it now. All I've had to do was replace the battery & tires, everything else still works like it was brand new.
I bought a 2013 dodge journey brand new and so far done 135k. It gave me no problems. Today I changed the original battery with a new one. I still have the original brake pads contrary to people saying brake pads fail prematurely. I love my Dodge . From Australia 👍👍
With my 09 Dodge Journey, I've found the location of the battery lends to battery failure in cold weather. My battery gets cold during nights and non driving times and drags the battery down as it's located down behind the drivers front tire, removal of the battery requires removing the drivers front tire, fender skirt and then turning the wheel all the way to the right to access the battery. Also splashing through puddles can split your battery down the side as mine did a couple of years ago and led to battery acid going everywhere!
I've never had to take the wheel off my 2012, 4 cylinder to change the battery. I've driven off road on rocky trails a lot and forded streams without problem. Maybe you are missing the plastic underbody protection that fixes to the front bumper? I's a big piece of moulded plastic that I've broken twice but it protects the battery as well as under the engine and transmission. Good luck!
i have a 2013 and havent had one problem yet at 68,000 mi. i like the car but at 6*3" tall driver is slightly uncomfortable, also the rear of car floats back and forth at times so it feels strange at times
Bought a 2013 Journey SXT from a dealership 2 years ago for $9000. Had 170,000kms on it & I've had to put $5000 worth of work into it. New transmission & passenger side half shaft @ 200,000kms, new blend doors @ 215,000kms, & all the routine maintenance (oil changes, air filters, etc). Heater isn't working correctly now so I'm going to flush the core & change the coolant. If that doesn't work & I need a new heater core ($2000 job), I'm scrapping the car. We had fantastic luck with Dodges in the past (1992, 96, & 2010 Grand Caravans), but I'll never buy another Journey
The Journey seems so hit or miss. I own a 2012 with 160k on it. Heater core and radiator had to be replaced. The 3.6 in mine had to have the cylinder head replaced which was quite common for the pentastar v6. Mine doesn't owe me a thing, it always starts and always gets me home. Every feature still works at 11 years old! The 62te transmission hasn't been touched and has been troublefree. I'd gladly buy another one.

From what most of the reports noted is that most of the problems were in the 09 to 10 Journeys. Most of the later years didn't have near as many reported problems.
I have a 2018 I bought new only has 29k miles no issues so far other than my battery in my Fob. Just general maintenance still got my factory tires on it.
Should of also said if fob battery dead or missing hold fob to start button and journey will start and drive. If journey is dead and you want to put in neutral to roll, inside of box between seats is a little opening to put screwdriver to allow stifter to move. The wiring harness inside of rubber boot on rear hatch hinge, wire tend to break due to twisting screwing up all door locks and security.
Thanks for the video. I bought a 2012 Fiat Freemont which is essentially the same as the Dodge Journey but with the smaller 2.4 litre Gema engine. I started up a Facebook page and found the following main issues that kept appearing on the page. 1. The wiring loom on the rear hatch. The wires eventually fatigue and snap, causing issues with various rear hatch functions such as camera, rego plate lamp, hatch lock button, wiper, reverse light, brake lights. 2. The bluetooth module. Randomly fails and is very expensive to replace out of warranty. 3. The heater vents not functioning properly. 4. The throttle body. Its made of crappy plastic so the internal cog eventually strips and fails.
@@rizzz007 I would recommend buying one if you care about: third row seating, rear ac, and 20k brand new. Because ekf the price the car is cheaply made and develop problems as they age. They're not that bad if you take care of it and do preventative mantinence, but some things are stupidly designed and hard to replace. Ex. Take off left wheel to get to battery, right wheel for alternator, rear struts you must take off all panels nearly, etc.
I had a 2013. 130,000 miles. Never had a problem except the thermostat was bad. The temperature never got above 1/4. Didn’t have heat. Swapped it and was good to go.
Have a 2016 R/T only hut 75k and there has been a slow drain battery/charging system issue since the 4th day drove off the lot. Dealer said they never found any problems every time it dies. Always tell us we 'left something on' Which is BS because it has run down protection - if you leave anything on, it turns off after about 15 munutes. I've read a ton of other people have the same issue. Nothing more aggravating than coming out to start up and getting the first 'key not found' warning, then, nothing but clunks and silence. For no reason.
It’s definitely not just 5 problems!! There’s a lot of issues with it!! I have the 2014 SE and it’s gave me nothing but issues I’ve had to replace the battery 6x, the whole PCM/ECM as well already!!😅
I got a 2016 journey sxt with the 2.4. Ot has 66,000 when I got it and now has 75,000. So far 0 problems. But i wouldn’t be surprised if the later models like mine have less problems than the earliest models like 2009-2012
I bought a used 2017 SE, cheap version,, in late summer in 2017 from a Dodge dealership. with 3,100 miles, yes 3100 miles, they had over 10 of these cars and probably used it for service rentals. I paid a total of $15,321 out the door, they wanted to charge me $15,900, I walked out the door got in my car and was driving down the street when the manger call me back and agreed upon my original price. I laughed when the salesman told me the were big sellers, yeah right you got 10 sitting on the lot. I have over 38,000 miles with no problems so far, I plan to replace the battery during the summer as it is a hassel to replace and I don't want to have problems when least expected. I use synthetic motor oil, changed the spark plugs at 30,000, and air filters every 20 000. To me, some of Dodge's recommended service intervals are spaced out way too long.
Well......some of the Journeys manufactured in 2012 and from 2013 onwards have some Fiat components that are not as reliable as the Dodge components. You have to check your oil because very high oil consumption is the norm. Infact there is a class action lawsuit in process right now against Dodge for this very problem. You can Google that.
I owned it for 6years now and I honestly would like to say that here in USA and Canada Dodge should produce better vehicle. It is ridiculous how many issues I have on my 2013 R/T 3.6 l and this s..... never stops day in day out always something new. It is frustrating and tiering to hell, I mean c'mon Dodge people wake up!
just junk it, phone a metal recycler, and make some cash, then put that toward a Toyota Sienna van, the XLE one, you'll NEVER REGRET IT....don't even get frustrated by drivin it to the place.....
I had to change the throttle body & thermostat & radiator & transmission 🙄 after days I purchased it 🤯 and I take care of the car good..........but this guy said facts on Journey he does knows 👍🏻👍🏻
Bought one brand new in 2016, i had a sensor issue that was minor and the placement of the battery is annoying but other than that, its a pretty reliable SUV. Same space as a Durango if you ask me, with more MPG. Like ANY car, if you take care of it and ensure it gets regular maintenance, the car will run for a long time
From deep o my heart. It's my first and LAST dodge. Yes. It's a R/T 2010 red, beautiful... But frustrating ownership. Still here in my driveway. 139k miles. More dash lights. Sure I'll hit some tree with this.
@@lindajmorris9178 I take great care of my cars and my wife Journey runs great. lost a oil pressure sensor. Had an oil leak on upper oil pan. Oil pump high pressure silenoid failed and I had to replace oil pump. I change oil every 5000 miles with synthetic oil. I tig welded in my own transmission pan drain plug and change the trans fluid every year, first trans filter change was at 50000, second at a 100,000. I have changed the coolant now 3 times and the thermost once. I lost rear heat a few years ago and had to back flush rear heater core. Now have 150,000 miles and I bought it with 200 miles on it. I just replaced the plugs again this week because I had to get back in there to do the oil cooler gaskets. They are a piece of shit cars. I have an 04 Santa fe with more miles thats had less problems.
2012 here. Like everything about it except our heater core is going :( There has been a few other things but nothing major except one thing years ago that was luckily still under warranty.
Dont forget about the alternator decoupler going out making a racket. Also the radiator hose coupler that leaks coolant and will need replacing early on. Recall on cruise control malfunctioning and driver side window control panel has issues too etc., etc.,etc.,
2009 here. Changed rear axel 5 years ago 2500$ 3 breaking pads 2 full sets of rotors Exhaust valve electric part Heater still not working... Entire interior squeaking Drives smooth and muffler delete^^ sounds so good lol. And car sometimes just not start for some reason... 250,000km
I have 12 dodge journey crew when I first got it it didn't have a Bluetooth module so I got that fixed n got the fluid to clean the windshield I had to get the hose fixed those where the two problems I with my journey crew n so far it hasn't given me any other problems
Hey, random question ! For a 2009 what size gauge is the positive cable? I need to replace the terminal. I am gonna get a compression terminal. Thank you !
I keep my journey as good as I can, when I move the steering wheel and feel a click, can that mean a shaft is going or could it be any other issue? If so what would I look for, if its easy to see Ill look when I next have it serviced. When Im driving I feel the vehicle jump and its AWD, could the AWD be malfunctioning or possibly be the transmission
Any sound coming from the wheel area should be checked IMMEDIATELY. took me twice to realize that and luckily never got injured. That click can mean anything. Struts, Tie Rods, Ball Joint, Steering Knuckle, or Control arm. Is it just one click or a bunch of clicks while turning?
@@colwyncallingbull yea I saw a video on that issue, it actually may be the blinker stick itself cuz the rubber inside could be worn, but I had the thermostat housing replaced a couple years ago cuz the coolant was leaking from there, noticed the temperature was drastically climbing and when I opened my hood I saw where the problem was right away
just reached 400,000 kms on my 2013, none of those problems just normal things like tires battery(which is in a stupid area)and just today the windshield wiper spray nozzles which are made of plastic became brittle and broke due to engine heat, ordered them online took five minutes to replace for 20 bucks, ive had an 1982 dodge omni with 300,000 on it, 85 caravan with 340,000 on it, 1994 caravan over 400,000, 1990 shadow over 320,000 on it,2003 srt4 with 120,000(it was t boned and written off ) 2004 caravan over 400,000 and now the journey, all with absolutely no problems except normal wear and tear, I do miss the size of the minivans though, cant fit in the suv what i fit in the vans :( ( and still have my dads 57 custom royal )
That's actually about right. It's popular to bash Chrysler quality these days. The chances of major problems in any modern cars, whether Toyota or Dodge, in the first 150k miles is tiny. People like you usually don't comment just to praise a certain car when it works as expected, because it's taken as granted. But the rare few who had problems will whine loudly, making it look common when it's actually not, their voices amplified by bandwagon jumpers who think bashing Chrysler quality without ever having owned the model, puts them into the cool crowd. Although , having owned the model, and changed the battery on it, I wonder what kind of sadist decided to put it down there...
I have a 2014 and the cruise control doesn’t work and also, the GPS doesn’t work and the dealer said I would have to replace the whole unit if I wanted to use the Navigation. 😖
i bought 2015 2,4 litre had to flash the computer once ,1 throttle body no other issues great car 173,ooo lots of room storage drives great for 4 cylinder 23ooo well spent
2009 Dodge Journey AWD, 180k, 3rd owner, put more than the last 100k on it. I've had none of these issues. Replaced rear shocks and struts, even though we don't have a tow hitch, and rarely have used the 2 rear passenger seats. Smooth runner, fabulous in snow with the AWD, large wheels, and excellent ground clearance. I upgraded the rotors and brake pads when doing routine brake maintenance. Can achieve as high as 33 mpg on long highway trips, or as low as 18 in city winter driving, but average 22. The engine consumes a 1/4 quart of oil every two fillups, which is to be expected in this engine at this mileage. I have a code reader, and the fuel trim still reads great. No codes get kicked out. Stout, dependable, family workhorse.
I have an 09 SXT and have not had these problems per se, but others. Mind you I'm not the first owner, but some things I noticed are that several of the electric controls have stopped working, and it's not the button assembly. Also the engine mounts and control-arm bushings are pretty bad.
I have 2009 sxt, I have problem that everytime its wet I get a parasitic draw that kills the battery. I also have random problems with the alarm hoping off for no reason. And the dealer did all the known recalls and its still doing it
Do you guys not do repair videos anymore? I remember this channel use to be a channel about “how to change etc on a etc etc” all I’ve seen lately is this top 5 stuff
I have a 2010 around 190km. The heat is the biggest issue I’ve found with it, it can take forever to get warm and the passenger side gets cold air only. The key fob can be annoying too.
Just bought a 2009 used. Having electrical problems. Thought it was key fob. Changed the battery work for a little bit. Can us the lock or windows on driver's door. Lights flash on and off. Windshield wipers flash on and off. Gages go up and down. Security light on and off. Dings every time it does it. Ive done all the rest tricks I've found googling the issue. They'd work for awhile. The other day it stopped and then started back up. Again. Also having the issue with the heat. Passenger side cold driver side warm. Other then that I love it.
My Journey has had none of those things hopped but other problems like oil getting into the coolant from a bad oil cooler, rear end started popping now. From what I read it’s called a viscous coupler
I have an 09 SXT and have not had these problems per se, but others. Mind you I'm not the first owner, but some things I noticed are that several of the electric controls have stopped working, and it's not the button assembly. Also the engine mounts and control-arm bushings are pretty bad. There are any me things in this car that are way more time-consuming and harder to fix than in other cars. This six-cylinder engine is pushed up against the chassis and makes it hard to access certain things.
I had 2012. It was the worst vehicle I ever owned. Period. I spent more in fixing all the problems than I did making payments. After 2 and half years I traded it. In a one year span, heater core failed, thermostat failed, water pump failed, head gasket failed, and radiator failed. It ran hot all the time no matter what got replaced. And I'm pretty sure towards the end, the transmission was going. First generation and hopefully the last. Anyone who over owned one these should be compensated for pain and suffering.
These are my issues. 1: thermostat has been replaced 4 times 2: battery issues 3: electrical windows don’t t work, I have to keep them closed 4: windshield wiper fluid doesn’t work 5: always some electrical issues
Like anything it depends on where and when it was made as well as where the parts came from and or that were used. I find the vehicles that come out of Canada are better all the way around.
Buenos días, gracias por la orientación, fue de mucha ayuda, en mi Journey dejo de funcionar el limpia parabrisas y lo hice como lo indica y me funcionó, gracias Dlsb, desde tuxtla Gtz chiapas, México.
Bought the wife a brand new crossroad in 2015 been a great car haven’t had any issues. Only thing I’m wondering lately is when is that stock battery going to give out. Not looking forward to changing that, such a stupid place to put a battery.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2017 and it seems like when I change the coolant I night want to back flush the heater core before I have a problem.. I had a 2001 Fords expedition which had the same problem in 2015, I waited too long to do a back flush, it helped but it just got clogged again.
So nothing about how tons of them seem to refuse to start. Just click, nothin. Apparently this is a big problem. Mine is literally doing it right now. I’ll check again in the morning, it’ll probably start.

When it runs right, it's an amazing vehicle.
@@stringslinger5504 - Just got a 2019 SXT and I'm hoping I got a good one. 🤞🏾
My horn spontaneously blows waking up the neighborhood.
Lol I feel ya on that one! 🤣🤣🤣 I have a 2014..I’m second owner and I love and hate ours too!!!
I have a 2010 and I have 3 out of 5 problems with mine. Its in the shop now.
No issues.
Dont forget, the best one, CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. Thatll keep ya stalled on a 4 lane highway! :)

U got any problems yet ? Wana buy 2013 sxt model
Just you wait, at 110,000 miles I needed my engine replaced, if yours isnt a lemon, good for you cause thats rare
I got a 2019 and mine threw the throttle body code more than once but it’s never idled loud. I don’t understand it.
The first, and only generation lol

Tell me about it
There's a pre-facelift generation
I love my Dodge Journey. And these are all minor issues cause the pentastar is king
My 2014 problems heater hose bust transmission needed replaced cd player broke ac door actuator broke other than all those it's a awesome ride.
+CALVIN BURKS Thanks for the feedback!

My 2017 dodge has 120,000 miles on it as of today. No major issues so far. However, sometimes the keyfob doesn't work properly...
From what most of the reports noted is that most of the problems were in the 09 to 10 Journeys. Most of the later years didn't have near as many reported problems.
I have a 12, looks great, runs great,
The key fobs do eat batteries like crazy.
Video should be called Top 500 Problems Dodge Journey.
I have a 2018 I bought new only has 29k miles no issues so far other than my battery in my Fob. Just general maintenance still got my factory tires on it.
It's a GT by the way
My power steering hose got a hole in it does it make it not want to turn if I still have power steering in it
Had same issue 3 weeks ago, I have 2018 20,000 miles. Took to shop was replaced under warranty known issue is what I was told. Mines actually leaked
I've owned two Dodge Journeys, love them, never had any issues.
I’m buying a 2013 what years were yours?
Thank you for reassuring me on this
Lucky. Mine had been a terrible car.
I feel like the v6 doesn’t have these issues as often
It's the v6 in the videos, the 4 cylinders are actually not as prone to some of these problems and instead have their own
In regard to the heat issue it could also be the oil cooler or sensors
Nothing wrong with buying or owning one of these things? You must be kidding. How did you narrow it down to only five problems
If they told you not to buy a bad car they'd be out of a job selling parts!
Have two journeys 300,000 Kms and 220,000 kms best vehicles I’ve ever had it’s all about how you drive and maintenance .
So far so good for my 2018 Journey.

@@1AAuto you guys rock.
Hi do you recommend me to buy one?
Always tell us we 'left something on'
Which is BS because it has run down protection - if you leave anything on, it turns off after about 15 munutes.
I have a 2017 Dodge Journey crossroads.. other then a small problem with the radio touch screen, Ive had NO issues. At 57000 miles
Like ANY car, if you take care of it and ensure it gets regular maintenance, the car will run for a long time
I have no idea about cars but you made it so easy to learn
I have a 2017 50,000 miles and it’s currently in the dealer’s shop for throttle body replacement 😩
Had that on my 2013 Dodge! Super expensive
2019 SE 70k miles. Only issues had to replace a rear brake caliper and the backup camera. No engine or transmission problems at all.
This is a great channel!
2011 journey, bought new. I have 215,000 +. It’s been a great car
Thanks! My issue is the thermostat. Do you have a video on how to replace it? I'm about to scroll through your library.
From deep o my heart. It's my first and LAST dodge. Yes. It's a R/T 2010 red, beautiful... But frustrating ownership. Still here in my driveway. 139k miles. More dash lights.
Sure I'll hit some tree with this.
How many of you really take care of our car. I don't mean oil changes and the rest of the maintenance that needs most people don't
What about 2018&2019 Dodge Journey crossroad how is it is there any issues with it?
2012 here. Like everything about it except our heater core is going :( There has been a few other things but nothing major except one thing years ago that was luckily still under warranty.
Dont forget about the alternator decoupler going out making a racket. Also the radiator hose coupler that leaks coolant and will need replacing early on. Recall on cruise control malfunctioning and driver side window control panel has issues too etc., etc.,etc.,
Flushing the heater core is cheap - easy and effective.
+cody J Thanks for the feedback!
and easy while replacing the thermostat
2009 here.
Changed rear axel 5 years ago 2500$
3 breaking pads
2 full sets of rotors
Exhaust valve electric part
Heater still not working...
Entire interior squeaking
Drives smooth and muffler delete^^ sounds so good lol.
And car sometimes just not start for some reason...
250,000km
What about a tapping noise after an oil change?
I have 12 dodge journey crew when I first got it it didn't have a Bluetooth module so I got that fixed n got the fluid to clean the windshield I had to get the hose fixed those where the two problems I with my journey crew n so far it hasn't given me any other problems

Hey, random question ! For a 2009 what size gauge is the positive cable? I need to replace the terminal. I am gonna get a compression terminal. Thank you !
RIGHT ON ‼️ THANKS 4 THE VIDEO YO ‼️‼️‼️
Question: 2013 Journey 3.6L SXT, coolant is dripping from the muffler yet the oil is not milky, how bad is the fix?

Did you get paid to write this? I call bullshit
No way all those trans made that kind of mileage with normal maintenance. An ac system won't make it that many miles.
Yep my 2017 had to have the throttle body replaced no i have this loud grinding noise idk what it is
Can confirm I replaced heater / AC core. Key fob doesn't work. Thermostat went out. And the filter housing oil cooler blew out gaskets
Just changed my oil cooler 2 days ago on an R/T 3.6 AWD . Cost me $1000 plus tax
I like the realistic coment of everycar will have a problem.
Because they already fixed the issues duhhh… more problems will come very soon get ready loser
Great video, as always!!!
+sagi fern Thanks for the feedback!
1: thermostat has been replaced 4 times
2: battery issues
3: electrical windows don’t t work, I have to keep them closed
4: windshield wiper fluid doesn’t work
5: always some electrical issues
+Michelle De Broeck Thanks for the feedback!
Good information, thanks for the video
I have a 2014 dodge journey and love it. It has 234,606 and no engine lights drive it everyday
Haha when your journey just randomly blows up 😂
So nothing about how tons of them seem to refuse to start. Just click, nothin. Apparently this is a big problem. Mine is literally doing it right now. I’ll check again in the morning, it’ll probably start.
I have a question have a 2017 dodge journey the stabilizer track system light comes on and there's a grinding in front end what could that be
