You guys have been a life saver with the Dodge Journey line of videos. You've allowed me to maintain and repair my wife's journey meticulously! I know with any issue the dodge has ever had you've got great repair videos I can trust. Thank you, a million times thank you.
Becuase then you'll pay the dealership to do a battery install rather then do it yourself. Battery replacement is by far the most commonly done piece of maintence owners choose to do themselves.
Little late to the party. But contrary to the belief of the two people who responded to you, The battery is in this location to help with weight distribution. The lower to the earth you have heavier masses the more stable the vehicle is. Sure it sucks but it's actually for a reason. Many other manufacturers also do this.
Thanks for that! My wife and I just changed the battery in her 2014 Journey. We hoisted the cables and the hold down bracket up out of the way with wires. Folding back the rest of the inner fender and wiring it in place out of the way also makes the job easier. We installed a Walmart battery which was a 1/2" higher, so the hold down did not fit. We took the battery box out (4 bolts) to modify it. We spent the better part of two days doing it, with all the rest and thinking periods, but it is done. I just turned eighty and it was not an easy job. Stupid, stupid place for a battery!!
Thankyou for your channel. My wife owns a 2015 dodge journey, owning an American car while living in Australia, makes standard repairs difficult. Dodge must have rocks in their heads when they designed this car. Thankyou for your channel, and for explaining the lunacy which is a Dodge Journey. Kind regards Colin Grundy
You guys are so amazing at explaining complex tasks in easy to understand ways. I'm not even into car repairs or mechanical things but it's compelling content which is why you have so many views around a Dodge Journey. You also sound like you love what you do. Well done.
Regular guy here, did it without removing the wheel. Just turn the wheel hard to port. It's a bit cramped, but it's definitely possible. Hardest part was keeping the clamp from falling into the way whilst lifting the new battery into place, just as seen in this video. Dropped a bungee tie-down from under the hood, hooked it to the clamp, and pulled it taut to keep the clamp lifted. Took less than an hour.
Y’all have been a life saver these past few years with your videos , thank you for being detailed and showing links to where to grab items . My wife says hello from Texas 🎉 👋
When I had a journey I was in a position I had to replace the battery in my garage. OMG, what a process it was. Never again will I get a vehicle like that. The WORST design ever.
Before installing the panel I would start the car to make sure everything ok. This is important if the post and terminal connections had corrosion. As you cannot access the battery under the hood.
Thx for that Video. I did the change today on a Fiat Freemont (Diesel, 2013). What a ....... Ok, i have to say: i'm not good in such things, but i saved about 250-350 Euro by DIY. For all those want to use a Optima Battery -> take the Optima RT S, not the Optima RT U. Otherwise the "battery holder" will not fit that good.
My wife’s Journey sitting next to my Grand Prix GTP is quite the contrast. Makes me love my old car that much more. The Journey gives me anxiety just looking at it because guess who has to fix that over-complicated headache?
I used to work for an airport FBO and frequently talked to GM and Chrysler head engineers flying on the company's jet. They were very close to sealing the hoods for dealership servicing ONLY and going to 24 volt systems.
Slowburn TM This sounds about right because all I can think of when I watch this video is cell phone batteries (some) not being replaceable because everything is sealed and consumers fighting for a “right to repair.” I have been convinced by this video that this something I don’t need to mess with.
yes it IS a stupid place for the battery, but once past that, I had to have an AGM and the only one I could find in Canada in group sizes 26, 75/86 was an Odyssey for almost $500cdn plus $100 shipping. There were many other sizes at around the $200-50 range, but not the one I needed for OEM measurement's of 9 1/16" L x 6 13/16 W x 8" H. So I found a group 35 that would fit perfect, BUT it's a right hand positive, and Journey's need a left hand positive. I thought of buying it and just turning it around, but this one had downward indented posts and I didn't think the add battery monitor on the ground would clear it enough. Then I found a group 34 at Canadian Tire with very close measurements of 10"L on the bottom, 6 3/4" W and 8" H. I had already measured the battery tray and figured it would work, so I bought one. In the end it took a "little" bit of adjusting, but I got it in nicely! I had to remove the battery handle and sheer off the holder for it on the ground side. Then I cut the rounded corners off the battery tray with a grinder in seconds, painted the bare metal and the battery fit in perfectly. The only other issue I had was getting the battery in WITH the top holder in place already (couldn't get it in after). So I tied a string to it from above and held it there in place while I put the battery in it's place. The battery terminals were never an issue as I found a nice place to push the positive one up in place out of the way and it held both of them up out of the way very nicely :)
Same here!! Just bought mine 4 months ago too and had I known this... Wouldn't have done it :( Sad. I like doing the work on my cars but this is such a pain

I just tried replacing my battery and the exact same thing happened. I thought it was a blown fuse at first and checked the fuses but they are good. Can you tell me what worked for you? I rather not go through the whole process again, to check the clamps, if I can help it. Thx.
@@maxmah2604 I'm sure you guys figured it out but the clamps have to be down good and tight. Happened to me. The positive it's easy to do this but not the negative. Gotta make sure it's down tight tight and then tighten the bolt tight and you should be good to go.

Crystal Brown It’s recommenced you should always use a memory saver when taking out/replacing a battery, just to keep all the electric current flowing. Only mechanics really do it, no one wants to spend money on a memory saver just to use it every 4-5 years

I my husband and I replace mine, what a friggin nightmare to change out. Need alot of patience to do it. I put in a bigger CA with higher CCA. Plus once connected, we put copper coat on the post and battery connectors. The reason is keep it from rusting and shortening out. Plus you can't clean the road debris out around battery. I hook up the cables to a bolt and red terminal and no current running through the cables..i was going like crazy looking for the buttery and me with no tools... Thanks for the video. The worst part was reaching the battery post bolts to loosen them to get the old battery out. As I imagined, the threaded bar and straps holding the battery in were all rusted and a nightmare to remove as well (and being down in the freaking wheel well why wouldn't they be!)!. It drains the battery the replacement seems to be a pain.
Some just take out the fuse????
What do you suggest, are you familiar with the problem??
Thanks
I figured out a way easier way I just wrapped a chain around that part of the bumper and floored it in reverse works great and leaves a big hole for great access 🤣
