@@branevans3705 “Nothing like Hendrix”? That’s ridiculous… he took a LOT from Jimi, and then punctuated it all with his own vibe to come up with a very dreamy and visceral soundscape that became his own signature sound, which was nothing short of fantastic.
This wonderful concert is from July 1973 and the album "Bridge of Sighs" was released in April of the following year. This explains why "Day of the Eagle" has different lyrics and a certain mismatch between the band. But it was only the first song. Afterwards they treated us to the wonderful music that this trio always delivered.
And this is why Robin is known as the white Hendrix, we all love Jimi's playing and Robin fits in that powerful blues laden style, a fine band, love Reg and James too, we were so lucky to have all this brilliant music kicking about in the 70's
Yes. I've always understood some of the "derivative of Jimi" complaints, but I don't think Robin has gotten enough credit for taking those innovations to his own place. Trower's use of feedback is more controlled (not in a bad way), and his vibrato is totally different. Amplifiers and effects changed a lot since Jimi's death in '70, so by just a few years later during Robin's peak, he was able to create his smoother sound/style (no dig at Jimi's more raw vibe). Would have been great to see where Jimi would have taken his thing. Maybe hooking up with Miles…and I think Zappa was right when he said that Jimi should have been put together with someone who could write/arrange/notate music so that Hendrix' orchestrations could have matured. We know Jimi was looking for something else by ’70. We'll never know. And only recently have I even realized that Trower didn't just write a lot of the tunes, but also a lot of the lyrics. As I said...underrated, because people have been too quick to write him off as a copycat.
The sign of a great player is their “signature sound” whereby you can tell who it is after a couple of bars. Robin is in this group - we all have our own choices as to who is in this group, but he is definitely there for me.

The percussionist is beautiful especially with no shirt.
Whoa those are totally different lyrics to Day of the Eagle!!!
My Idea is they changed the lyrics later on since this was probably a very early performance about a year prior to “Bridge of Sighs” release
I noticed that to. He sings the same lyric all 3 verses.
I been a huge Hendrix fan for decades...but discovering Trower recently got me questioning who's doper
I don’t know what doper means (I’m in uk), but why do people still compare him to Hendrix?, totally different guitar style and musical style.
@@Lauriedriver he definitely has similarities to Hendrix, but those the years close to Hendrix, but I'm not saying one is better.
A lot of people compare Stevie Ray Vaughn to Hendrix and still it's the same type of deal, they're all great in their way.
I know could have seen Hendrix live since I was a little kid, but I've seen Stevie Ray Vaughn many times, I'm sad that I've never seen Robin Trower live.
@@richtomlinson7090 I have seen Hendrix at Isle of Wight festival (i'm not a young one and i was there for the five days!!!), a few weeks before his tragic death, i have seen Trower in 1976 in Paris (France), and i have seen S R Vaughan in Paris too! Unfortunately SRV was almost totally drunk and talked more than played! It was very regrettable because i traveled a long distance for see him! I appreciate each musicians and all have/had different style, and there were more similarities between Hendrix and SRV for their funky side, which doesn't really appears into Trower play. Trower is (like Paul Kossoff) a "slow" player, able to make you cry with only one simple note! They aren't many on this guitar "market" able to do that nowadays! The three was/is great, and hopefully Trower is still alive, certainly the one who never abuse of magic powder, cause music is his unique energy! Thanks and congratulations to him for all the hours of pleasures he gaves to us!
Lakeland Florida Civic center, March 1974 Bill Lordan had replaced Reg Isidore. One of those shows that is forever burned in your head for an 18-year-old truly a tight incredible group.
Awesome. Thank You!
Love all towers work!
TROWER THE BEST IN THE 70s
Drummer gets much respect .as do the other guys just sayin

Great musicians with a distinctive style. Robin was in Procol Harum and left after being inspired by Hendrix.

First time l heard DayDream l was 15 and l was Spellbound took a while till l found which album it was on
Love the original lyrics, pre "Day of the Eagle" obviously. So Cool.
The greatest!
Wow, so "day Of The Eagle" started out as something different entirely. Fascinating. I thought it was already out. Guess they had another yea to write new words. That's an amazing to hear.
