One of the greatest blessings in my life. The music of the Robin Trower Band. Once I heard the Voice...I was bitten. Thanks for the memories. RIP and God bless you Lisa.
I remember travelling into Glasgow to a small pub called The Burns Howff in West, Regent Street in Glasgow, I went originally to see a local Falkirk band and Beggars Opera. There I first saw Stone the Crows, what a very powerful band. Later I idolised Robin Trower, still buy all his stuff and Bridge of Sighs is one of my top 3 albums. Dewar was an absolute star his deep voice an intrinsic element of the band. Listen to Trower’s stuff since and you realise how good Dewar was. Interesting aside, when Jimmy was in hospital he was very grumpy and used to say to the nurses ‘do you know who I am’ - they had never heard of him. In terms of Scottish musicians Dewar to me is the very pinnacle, absolutely immense.
That man had a wonderful voice a friend of mine was into him and got me hooked. Well done on pronouncing his sickness I think I'd of got half way though and would of given up. Very sad ending to a man with so much to give
Thank you Jayne 🥰 Not much is written about this talented man or his illness so had to dig deep but so happy I did ❤ He did have an amazing voice, so soulful 💯❣
I'm glad to have found this article. Many questions answered here. Trower's band was never the same w/o James. But we still have those albums to listen to.
I recently played Long Misty Days to a group of friends with, er, somewhat differing tastes to mine own. [Think classical, etc...] ALL were blown away by Jim's voice. OK, so I gained a lot of kudos, but what REALLY matters is that MORE people, and no doubt many of their friends, now know of this unique talent. RIP, fella, and THANKS...❤
I only recently (and inexplicably) discovered Trower and Dewar. Dewar is the essence of the rock voice and Trower is the only seventies rock guitarist I can listen to with great joy who reminds me of Hendrix but who's his own man.
@HarmonyHeartsLifestyle-ul5yv. Thank you for your work on this video on James Dewar. I first heard the album “Bridge Of Sighs” way back in 1975, and was immediately drawn to James’ exceptional vocal talent. There’s a slower tempo track on the album called “About To Begin”. I read a review of the album at the time and the journalist commented about this track (writing something like) “If you hear this song and you are not moved by James Dewar’s vocal, then check your wrist for a pulse because you must be dead!” I place James as one of the U.K.’s best rock vocalists alongside Paul Rodgers, Frankie Miller, Freddie Mercury etc. The “Bridge Of Sighs” line-up of the Robin Trower band including James and Reg Isidore (RIP) will always be my favourite. Unfortunately James is so overlooked and largely unknown, which is such a shame. Thanks again. Stay safe and well.
Thank you Mark, I really appreciate it 🥰 Yes I was shocked to see nothing really about him or his life on youtube or anywhere really. I'm so happy to be able to honor his memory even in this small way 🤗 Thanks again and take care also ❤
Aged 17 In 1981 I hung about with a few guys at school in Paisley including Jim Dewar Jnr. We were just would be musicians having fun. I ended up playing social clubs and weddings a few years later but it didn't come to much. One day we went to Jim's house and set up to jam in his dad's home studio. A bit overwhelming seeing the platinum discs on the wall. Anyway who should come home but Jim Dewar senior. He promptly grabbed a whisky and his bass guitar and played along as I sang and played guitar to the Beatles song Across the Universe. So in that room in Paisley I performed with the legend that is Jim Dewar. Not a memory that will ever leave me.
"Underrated" is ironically one of those adjectives that is used rather loosely, casually and often incorrectly. In James Dewar's case, however, it is right on the money. The general listening public really didn't know who this guy was during the heyday of the Robin Trower band. The focus was totally on Robin, but in retrospect I think the people marketing the band probably should have shone more of the limelight on Mr. Dewar, a big, missed opportunity. As great as Robin was and is, he was really not a charismatic "frontman". Be that as it may, they did have a near decade long run despite what in my opinion was a huge, missed opportunity to market the band as "a band" and not just as Robin Trower as essentially a solo act.
5:36 That was some gathering: Dewar, Alex Harvey, Billy Connolly, Hamish Stuart, Jim Reid and Frankie Miller. How much booze went down that night I wonder?
A very underrated vocalist and a great loss to all of us who knew him.
Awesome musician. I think he was by far the best singer/bassist to accompany Robin Trower. Saw them live in London in the 70s.
What a privilege it was to see have seen Mr. Dewar on the Bridge of Sighs tour, 1974...Detroit. Mesmerizing evening...
One of the great singers not many mention nowadays......
Tremendous musician and vocalist. Once heard never forgotten. Many thanks and RIP James.

James Dewar. Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! Such a Soulful Voice and Smooth Bass Lines. The Essential Trower lineup. One of the Best!
along with Paul Rodgers.
I've been listening to Bridge of Sighs over and over again while on vacation this week...absolute PERFECT ALBUM.
Terrible loss.Jimmys voice and all around talent were a gold mine.R.I.P. Jimmy.👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
A great tribute to a great artist, l saw James in the Trower band in the early 70's James vocals were on point and still resonate to this day.
Saw Mr. Dewar RIP live with Trower in 1977 at the Santa Monica Civic Center. Great show!. My condolences to the family and friends of James Dewar.
no other could replace him with trower.... perfect together
1+1>2 for sure.
Never been replaced in the Robin Trower band - then, how could he be
A sad ending for one so talented & as stated an underated performer. He will continue to be remembered by some music lovers.

Was a great singer with Trower!
Love the album "Victims of the Fury"
Another great one. 😎🤘😍
Thank you evil eyes 🤗💖
The word "LEGEND " is bandied about too much these days but not in Jimmy Dewars case ---- a TRUE artist & LEGEND ❤😢

I've long dug James's singing and playing. RIP.
james had such a great voice you forget he was also a good bass player
....a true soul man.....
Lisa Dewar and I use to keep in touch . I hope Robin makes a full recovery - 🎤✨🎸☮️🎬
I got to see him with Trower a few times. What a voice and an equally exceptional bass player. R.I.P.
JD was one of the top 5 singers ever
So sad. I love James' voice, smooth like butter, heavenly like an angel.

Legend.
He had a manly voice that reminds me of Paul Rodgers the former Free, Bad Company and Firm singer.

I miss you James!!!! You were one great singer and talent!!!!

Thank you so much! I appreciate you, enjoy your day 🥰❤
Definitely underrated and a hell of a singer. Sorely missed!
Dewar has a rasp similar to Paul Rodgers. I always liked that about his voice. Oozing with soul.
A true GOAT Bassist and vocalist.Gone way too early ❤❤
Loved ! Loved ! Loved ! ❤😢❤ Fernando Morales , from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil ' ✌️💥
What a great voice.
He also sings back up vocals on The UFO’album Force It
I’ve long wanted to hear him speak in his Scottish accent.
I saw their show during the Bridge of Sighs tour - bathed in blue light 🔥🎤🔥
