I met Robin backstage in 1987, he is humble, decent, a real gentleman! When I complimented his awesome mastery of the guitar, his reply was, "I'm not really THAT good". Robin, yes you are! NOBODY plays like you. I doubt there will ever be another like you.
I've seen him talking some on UA-cam and you can tell he's a humble gentleman. God bless him for that. We need more people like him in this sad ole world.
Bought Bridge of Sighs, back in 1976 I think as a 17 yr old! I just turned 59, and how REFRESHING, he still sounds!! Especially with most of the rubbish on the radio, today!!😊
me to, 17 & 59...you know what is a trip? Now I am INVISIBLE. Sure I was decent looking,... youth is gorgeous. But geez, right around two years ago, nobody sees me! They look right through me. It was fun, but I totally dig the new ananominity. I can pick up all the rocks in a rock shop that has signs all over that say DO NOT TOUCH or I can fish for the fish I want at the pet store. Nobody raises an eyebrow. It's too bad I don't have any real rascal moves.Does anyone have any suggestions?
That record for some reason just resonnated with me ... that tone .... just like hearing him now ... can hear the wind blowing the chill setting in , the activities ahead legal or not ...
I met Robin at a bar I used to frequent. He played and he let me play his start to show him I knew his songs then I played Day of the eagle for him. Best day of my life....
Robin Trower is the most underrated guitarist of my time. I saw the original band in1984 at a club in Detroit and many times since. His style is one of a kind. Never to be duplicated. The feeling from his music is freedom!! Bless you Robin Trower.
jethrodassam I told you so, no body can do it like that he is incredibly gifted. We are all better people. Because he shares his gift of music with us.
Being a guitarist myself and playing in a few bands, Robin isn't up there noodling or just going through the motions. He totally feels the music in him and kills it up there!!! but it's also in large part to the stellar musicians playing with him. A solid bassist and drummer allow the guitarist freedom to be creative and play what they want to hear. This video is a great example of such. Awesome!!!
Mark Connors, I know what you mean. a great rhythm section gives the guitarist room to blossom. I'm sure Pete Townsend would agree with you. I'm a guitarist in my late 60's. I grew up with his music. I started playing guitar in 1975. As with a gazillion others my age, the Bridge of Sighs album was a real head turner. And it opened up our ears to everything else Robin did. I still say Robin needs to be experienced live to truly appreciate his musical skills. It won't be a concert - it will be an experience! The concert of this video does an excellent job and the sound quality is excellent. But one really needs the cd, a great stereo and headphones, and sit back on a couch undisturbed for the whole concert. Play it loud.
@Chas No Like you, I put my guitars away for a while and got a real job. My ex-drummer buddy of mine convinced me to take it up again, if for no other reason than to feel your fingers around a neck again. Yes, get that strat restrung, adjusted by a guitar tech if necessary, buy a portable 20 watt amp and start playing again. Life is too short to say, "If only I ................." I'm in my late 60's playing in a band. I practice every day.
Robin Trower has a guitar 🎸 sound all his own. Nobody matches up to his music 🎶 🎵. He really does feel the music. I had a lot of his albums back in the 80's. I'm 64 now and still love ❤ 😍 💖 his 🎶 🎵 music!
A very Happy 77th Birthday Robin Leonard Trower 9 March 1945.. Born in Catford, London... A London boy with a thirst for electric blues... Many, many more Robin Leonard. Cheers Mate!!
This man loves to play the Stratocaster. Robin Trower, in a league of his own. No question about the Hendrix influence, but Trower is a compilation of all the players that have gone before him in the world of rock n' roll guitar. When I listen to this band, the singer is but a very small part of the gig. The focus is Robin Trower.
I can't believe I forgot to include Robin on my list of favorite guitarists on the ELO thread. He should have been towards the top of my list, for sure.
***** I totally agree with you about Jimmy. What an amazing voice he had. He did his own "copying", though, and his influences were/are clear! But the combo of Robin's guitar and Jimmy's voice (not to dismiss the drummer) were pure magic. Miss you, Jimmy!
***** Believe me when I say, thank you for your comment, Joe brooklyn. This certainly is not the first time that I've made a comment that is way off the mark. My saying that "...the singer is but a very small part of the gig." is unfair.
i met robin at a show in royal oak Michigan about five years ago. i was about eighteen at the time and had just discovered the bridge of sighs album. when i heard that he was coming to town me and my dad got tickets. he was such a cool dude. came walking out the ally after the show with a beer in his hand and just talked to all his fans. i chatted with him for about five minutes. he asked what type of amp and guitar i use. was very encouraging to me. a truly great dude.
I was very blessed to have had the opportunity to meet with Robin before they played a date in Sscramento at the old Crest Theater on K Street. I had made the arrangements for their hotel stay at the Days Inn that used to be there on Jibboom Street, right next to the river. In any event, I figured when they got there their tour manager would come in and settle up the group's rooms, etc. But no, each of the guys came in and paid in advance, excepting Robin's, I comped his room for him. But you know, he was really nice and stood out in the lobby and talked with me for probably close to 10 minutes and mostly about Strats. I thanked him and just in the same moment that he left the tour manager ("Mr. Green"?) came by with T-shirts and 4 tickets to Robin show that night. Had no trouble finding 3 guys who really wanted to go...for free! An amazing guitarist an a real gentleman. How many guys out there you'd pay that kind of compliment? Way to go Robin...and THANKS!!
Definately worth a listen for anyone who enjoys perfect, meticulous guitar playing.....Robin is definately right up there with the greatest.....AND....he's STILL ALIVE!!!! THANK GOD!
Robin is embedded in my teenage memories, some of which.., I cant actually remember, because I was *rolling* _too_ *stoned* - lol. It is fantastic to watch this and see him still jammin'.
Keith Kacner I saw Robin in 75 or 76. He was the opening act, middle act was King Crimson and the headliner was Ten Years After. Still get goosebumps, just thinking about it.
Conheci a genialidade do Robin Trower numa tarde de sábado com minha ex-namorada Luciana. Foi e é inesquecível. Era de tarde ensolarada e tomávamos umas cervejas. De repente ouvi o som do Robin. Foi coisa mágica!
69ragster why wait let's get together and administer some shrooms, take control of our destiny, and check out the cosmos from the inside,I can get you there. Or were you just foolin. Peace & Sounds. Love Whiplash Watson.
Wow. I like Robin too. He is great, but so was Hendrix, who is impossible to overrate. No need to diminish Hendrix, or for that matter, the black people who like Hendrix to make Trower great. Trower's work and longevity are testimony enough. The truth of the matter is that about 2-3% of the audience has no musical taste. They hate everything, black or white.
The most underrated guitar player of all-time. When the greats are mentioned his name is rarely heard but by God, his work is iconic...he was the next Hendrix but maybe that billing hurt him down the road who knows. He's a phenom.
The singer here has great vocal tone and power, hes really "kicking"! The bass player is solid as rock with great touch and timing. The drummer is great mixture of precision soul and balls.. And Robin Trower is legend with a beautiful no mathematical soulful approach to the guitar. Some roll a fucken joint!
That's Davey Pattison on vocals. And like me, he's been around a long time... just not with the right bands! ;) Perfect voice for Robin Trower music, I think! Peace.
I can't understand the comments about the vocalist-- most bands would kill for a vocalist as mature, tasteful and understated, all with plenty of passion. First rate all the way around. Ultimate soul rock.
You want to hear more of him? His name is Davey Pattison and he was with Ronnie Montrose in Gamma for many, many years. Check out their catalog of music if you like him. Especially recommend Voyager!
i did a track "peace at last" a customer told me sounded like robin trower, had forgotten about his greatness from my youth, he was my favorite high times headphone sound i can remember.
for me, I think a big part of Jimi Hendrix was the magic of Mitch Mitchell on drums. A lot of people never realized the harmonious relationship the drums and the guitar had on most Jimi records. The drums really make the guitar shine and vice versa. There are many guitarist like Trower who are really talented but usually they get the most basic drumming equivalent to a simple backing track. That really takes aways from the magic of the guys guitar.
Ahh one of the Greats still bringin the house down...saw him at the Coronet Hotel...a tiny little Bar in Kitchener Ontario....he shook my hand and gave me his pick "Herco" was the brand and thick as a brick !!
That was a Blow to my heart! I'm 66 been following Robin since he played in Tampa I think it was 72 or 74 but the weed and "windowpane" get in the way of dates...LOL
Fond memories standing at Robin's feet on this number as he ripped our face off and gently gave it back so he could do it again and again. What a grand night.Same vocals too but That Robin tone will be here with us forever. He was very kind after the show though running tight he said he just couldn't stick around...One of the greats for sure even though it was little more than a hand shake and a few words.Robin Rocks it with true fire... God has blessed this mighty man of musical tone!
A very Happy 77th Birthday Robin Leonard Trower 9 March 1945.. Born in Catford, London... A London boy with a thirst for electric blues... Many, many more Robin Leonard. Cheers Mate!!
DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM! WHAT AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE! FUCK THE REST, ROBIN IS THE BEST! I HAD HIS ALBUM MORE THAN 30 YEARS AGO, BUT HE NEVER SOUNDED BETTER, WAAAO!!! HE IS LIKE THE FINEST AND SWEETEST OF WINES...HE GOT BETTER!!! LONG LIVE ROBIN!
Phenomenal! Stupendous! A Primal Scream, Catharsis, Transformational! Transcendent! THANK YOU ROBIN FOR ALL THE DECADES OF MUSICALLY INSPIRED HUMANITY REACHING FOR CIVILIZATION'S HIGHEST ASPIRATIONS, BEING REAL BY SPEAKING THROUGH THE BLUES OF THE FRAGILITY OF LIFE & ITS PRECIOUSNESS IN OUR FAILURES & SUCCESS.
Robin was my second concert. Music Hall, Boston, Massachusetts. April, 1976. My high school classmate Garry turned me me on to him. Thanks Garry! Hope to see you at the 45th... Set list: 01. Day Of The Eagle 02. Bridge Of Sighs 03. Lady Love 04. The Fool And Me 05. Long Misty Days 06. Too Rolling Stoned 07. Daydream 08. Same Rain Falls 09. I Can't Wait Much Longer 10. Alethea 11. Mary sweet mother of pearl it sounds better today than twice removed from yesterday. And my parents used to razz me "what are they going to do when they get old?" Daddy is long gone and mudda don't even want to hear it anymore. Hahaha
What a master at his craft, my first Trower was 1976, I thought I discovered him.I did for bunch I ran with. The whole world needs to have to hear Bridge of Sighs. What a original title, infamous. Bless them all.
Robin is the only other guitarist I have seen that I would call the Master of the peddle's and accessories, most of which was invented and circumvented by the Master in the truest sense of any other person to have ever strapped a strat on. I feel it would sully the comment to have to mention his name!
Jim Dewar from Glasgow, Sotland. Davey Pattinson from Glasgow, Scotland. Two great vocalists, in my humble opinion. If you've grown up listening to Jim singing with Robin you might feel he doesnt' fit.
I have spoken to Davey on the subject James Dewar was a legend but I think Davey made his own impression on the songs strangely Davey is a bass player always wondered why he did not play bass with a Gamma or Robin although he played some guitar with Gamma if I remember correctly
I think both of them picked the songs up and ran with them on their own terms. Both are fantastic singers and they both give the songs a distinct stamp and both were a great match for Robins guitar sound.
I met Robin backstage in 1987, he is humble, decent, a real gentleman! When I complimented his awesome mastery of the guitar, his reply was, "I'm not really THAT good".

I've been a fan since 1977.Imagine if he could play with Jimi ,Joanne Shaw Taylor and Jimmy Page.
Been listening to Mr Trower since my teens. Im 57 now. incredible guitarist.
todd ely Same age, same story!Good to see you made it! Peace!
Dan Bertucci and Jefferson Starship for a bit. Also was with Robin for the Passion tour in 1986-7.
60 yo here. The good-old days!! I still listen to them to this day.
BSM Try a group named Black Stone Cherry! They are local dudes who remind me of the old rockers. Best I've heard in 20 or so years. Peace!
Ditto. I'm 57 too.
Bridge Of Sighs, among the greatest Rock Albums of ALL TIME....
RIP James and Reg
There going like the original at first. I love the way they went up
🙂👍💯
And that kids is how it's done.
Damn right.
indeed
Absofuckinglutely!!!!!
Yes it most certainly is.
Trower can show most top guitarists today how to get music out of a guitar.
Bought Bridge of Sighs, back in 1976 I think as a 17 yr old! I just turned 59, and how REFRESHING, he still sounds!! Especially with most of the rubbish on the radio, today!!😊

I did the same thing I'm 61

Same here !
I met Robin at a bar I used to frequent. He played and he let me play his start to show him I knew his songs then I played Day of the eagle for him. Best day of my life....
Awesome!
That would be so freaking awesome !! To meet him and ...get to play his strat ?!?!?! 🎸🎶🎶😎 Too Rollin stoned !!

Sean O'Connor I have seen him several times. The first time was in 1976 when he opened for Jethro Tull in Shea Stadium.
+Sean O'Connor I'm aware of the musician Robin Trower. However never realized his expertise, and know doubt an underrated guitarist. Omg !!
You should have seen him back in the good old days. Man could he rip
One of the most underated guitarists ever and the singer really compliments Robin's tone.
David Ramalho A great
act that I believe everyone should see
Who is the singer?
Also Joe Bonamassa said that's Trower is underrated musican...
By who?
@@yeskojunior3062 Joe wishes he had Robin's tone

I agree much like Rory Gallagher and Roy Buchanan they are the two whom in my opinion are so very underrated in guitar player circles
Keep in mind TROWER started way before Hendrix ever got out of the military.
Loved him back in the 70's and still Loving him today. One of the GREAT GUITAR GOD'S!!!

I saw Robin in 1975. Several years I took my son to see him at Bogarts. It was a special moment for me.

A guitar god... so much from the soul. One can truly feel the music.
to rolling stone comfortably num best solo's I have ever heard
How could 40, I hate to use the word people, not like this..? The Master of the Strat..that what Robin is..
+gtflyer Because those 40-some dipshits that dislike this man's music, are proud of having no taste whatsoever in music. Lol
+gtflyer I Have no effin' Idea...I guess that's the same 40+ Who paid for a Kanye West song....
Between 2 and 3% of folks hate absolutely everything. Just plain bad taste in music is the only explanation.

Saw him in 1976ish....in Milwaukee.....without a doubt one of the best...in company with Clapton, SRV....
I saw him in '74'. One of the best concerts in my life... Norfolk Va. Bridge of Sighs...

Master of tone. What he pulls out of a Strat is insane.
Always loved the sounds he got out of the Strat.....

What a master at his craft, my first Trower was 1976, I thought I discovered him.I did for bunch I ran with. The whole world needs to have to hear Bridge of Sighs. What a original title, infamous. Bless them all.
Got to see him on my 50th bday in Houston house of blues. WOW!
I was a puppy when this came out and it still ROCKS!!!!
he plays in the most unlikely keys. amazing!!!
frightens cfgf
Robin is the only other guitarist I have seen that I would call the Master of the peddle's and accessories, most of which was invented and circumvented by the Master in the truest sense of any other person to have ever strapped a strat on. I feel it would sully the comment to have to mention his name!
indeed
He works the hell out of the wah-wah pedal, especially on this song.
Jimi Hendrix lives....
Yes, Robin, the Master, and of course, the great Terry Kath !!!
i was too young dammit. I looked for this thinking i was going to find an older version and to my delight I found this.
need to watch this video every day to feel better.
Love the new singer and drummer makes want
to be them. Rock On
Jim Dewar from Glasgow, Sotland.
I love Davey. He's filled James' shoes nicely.
I guess this is Davey? I think he sounds awesome. :)
The best blues singers come from Glasgow
