as a black male i have been a fan of Trower since about 1974 but Dewar an example of soul not having any particular colour! i put in the same class as Van Morrison and many others!
That's cause James was a Rock singer & though he could sing the Blues it was not what he was all about . Go listen to him when he was with Stone The Crows before he hooked up with Robin. Define Soul as it comes from the heart is part of great Blues vocals & James had a big heart.
@@paullevine1813 yeah baby Jimmy with Maggie that was some blue-eyed Soul straight out of Scotland totally different singing in that band really good stuff throughout all of Jimmy's career. I only found out a few months ago that Jimmy was one of the two guitar players that's right guitar player when he was with Lulu and the louvers back in the early sixties. And I've been trying ever since to try to find some video of him playing guitar, but the promotions back then was all about the singer and Lulu was front and center and the musicians were invisible much like many bands back in that era that were controlled by the promoters if they wanted to do their music Worldwide
Great statement appreciate your input. Further people look at folks from the UK as white people. I totally feel you on this one man. I met this guy my 2nd semester at GSU ("76) from Chicago and he turned me on to Robin Trower and Frank Marino Mahogany Rush. I had bought most Trowers albums after that. I always loved rock r&b soul British invasion even country music. Seeing my friend w/ all those rock albums i "came out the closet" w/ rock and every other kind of music other than R&B and Soul..,.. NO BODY that i know of listen to country in my neighborhood. LOL I've always loved any style of music w/ guitar in it......I started playing in late '78
Wow...great flanged goodness here...James Dewar was at this point, one of rock’s great vocalists, and Robin, one of our great guitarists. Kudos to Rustee Allen and Bill Lordan for holding down the groove.
When James Dewar didn't have to think about the bass playing his vocals got even better. I loved this group as a trio, but freeing James for vocals only kicked things up a notch. (As everybody else here says, absolutely one of the best/blues-iest vocalists ever.) Oh, and I have not forgotten the amazing guitar playing!
To me - One of the most iconic vocalists in classic rock! Cant even imagine those tunes without J.D. ...Trower is an amazing guitarist for sure, but J.D's voice elevated those songs to another level, every single time
Einer der besten Gitarrenplayer der Welt. Mehr kann ich dazu nicht sagen. Ich liebe deine Musik und mit James Dewar hast du die beste Stimme an deiner Seite. ❤
Even though the video quality on this clip is not very good, I look through that and appreciate the live performance - it allows us to get a feeling for the personalities of the musicians that a still shot cannot offer.
I seen the in city dreamss concert at wings stadium kalamazoo Michigan Styxx was the back up band....awesome concert...will remember it until the end of my days.
Dewar and Trower.........The best, unbelievable, British soul singer( except Hamish Stuart)...paired with the best brilliant soul/ blues guitarist,.....Trower......And you get this.Genius.
I seen Robin Trower live at Rockefeller on the Richmond strip right there up close so loud I had to use ear plugs. There was a black man doing vocals on the Bass.that was nearly 30 years ago.
Lucky Robin Trower With The Front Man James Dewar! Never EVER Their Destruction! The Kingdom of I Am Music Fox! Rock's Czar QX! Where Do Oui Sign CRYING!

Thank you, awesome! This is the most snazzy I've seen Trower! :) Total Glam Man now Oh my gosh! I came up with three puns :) Bruce Lee style shirt and pants because the (Enter the) Dragon suit was taken. It's always a jam but Trower always flows...like water, my friend :P
@@allthingsclassicrock There used to be a website that diagrammed classic effects pedal and amp setups but I can't find it. But back in the day, Robin's setup was something like preamp and clean booster>treble booster (Red Ranger?)>Tychobrahe wah>Fender Blender>UniVibe>MuTron Phaser II>2 Electric Mistresses. At some point he used a Mayer Voodoo Bass pedal to split his signal out to two amps - maybe a "clean" side and the one with all the effects. I can't remember.
@@jefflatker7674 It most absolutely was, and I was watching this very show at the age of 17. The giveaway was the huge red letters that appeared above each band.
James Dewar, what a voice!
You said it!
Dewar is the most underrated vocalist of all time!

Uncle Remus: Whiskey-Polished Soul - Love James Dewar R.I.P.
OH hell yes indeed!
Guys check out Dewars solo album Stumbletown Romancer he sings amazing on it!
So is the guitar player
Trower at his best. I'm so happy when I heard his guitar. James Dewar is the best Bluessinger of the world. Ever ❤
Robin should have much more attention. Such s brilliant musician. And James Dewar had one the coolest voices of rock.
Been going to see Trower since I was 16. I’m now 62 and have seen him many times, but never enough!
His vocals and Trowers quitar we're impeccably
RIP James. One of the best rock singers of all time.
✌️ Classic Trower
James with his honey voice was the perfect accompaniment to Robin's guitar genius!

James Dewar was a ‘crooner’, and I hate that he’s gone. I always thought Paul Rogers of BadCo would be a good try???

45 years later Trower still loves to play at 78
Those rock guitars from the 70’s are friggin untouchable!

Damn, I love this! Dewar, Trower and Lordon absolutely owning this, R&B funky infused rock with mega soul and tone!
Reminds me of Band of Gypsies
James and Robin were having so much fun, especially during Somebody Calling !
Robin Feels every note he plays!
He ain't the only one.
The singer is so good, they where lucky to have him. The guitar is something you have to go see to experiance
Like a funky soulful R&B bluesy ballad!!!! Dewar, WOW!
My new favorite Trower song!
Gritty sound with the feedback, so awesome. This song is fantastic. Trower looks like he's having so much fun with this one.
James Dewar, The Voice.
Damn... I love this one. They're smooth as silk. The band is awesome on the Midnight Special. Thanks.

Electric Mistress. I had one. Crazy flanger
I did too. Still the most harmonically intense flanger
Robin kick's Ass.

Alright now 🔥
James Dewar
Majic!
Ear candy at it's finest.
Fox! Rock's Czar!
You can hear how loud this was lol
What effects are used in this track? Obviously an industrial-duty flanger but there's something else entirely
James Dewar sang like a blues pro ~
The beginning of a great tour! Hey... Crazy Steve you out there?
Electric Mistress Flanger? Sounds like it.
Jeff Curran At the time,Robin used two electric mistresses.
Can you explain how he does that sweep? I still haven’t figured it out.

Electric Mistress Flanger
Is this a Don Kirshner show?
Midnight Special, I remember watching that night..... GUITAR!!!
great tune dewar smooth as the scotch and trower doing his jimi hendrix but not jimi hendrix thing
I think it's Phil Lynott
Two Electric mistress hooked together lol
Big flange sounds ... drums could have laid out for the first part.
Bass player any where?
Rusty Allen
Kudos to the bassist too, don't know who took the reins from James at this point.
Rustee Allen, from Sly Stone's band.
It would've been nice to see him or Bill Lordan behind the drum kit..but the cameraman dropped the ball.
What concert is this from? - and is there more of it?
I'm pretty sure this is a clip from The Midnight Special TV show... here is the full set ua-cam.com/video/3C_qYV3CG0Q/v-deo.html
