Definitely a product more out there for the painter as opposed to a player of the game. Blind boxes are fun and as far as I know they haven't used the boxes to distribute any mechanically unique figures
The blind boxes are also great for Kill Team, especially if you’re playing intercessors. A box of intercessors comes with 10 models, an intercessors kill team consists of 6 models, grab two models with the blind boxes and now you have two different kill teams to build instead of one kill team and four unused models
@@Indigo_Indignation no, the idea is that the model kit is built for 40K where you can have a unit of 5-10 models. Kill Team is not a factor in the design
True, but its pot luck when you buy them individually in a store. They're are random in thr sense they are intended to be sold individually as blind packs.
They used to do these for a few different factions, there was like 8 Nids, 5 guardsmen, 3 marines (of either flavour) and 4 ork boyz. They were £6 each at the time and all monopose, but they were good! There might be more or less models in each box, I can’t remember though
About 5 years ago I went to buy one of them to fill out a tactical squad, but the store clerk gave me half off of those so I got 4 boxes. Last time I ever saw them on store shelves. There were also the Primaris easy to build ones for 3 models, I got Intercessors and Reivers. Made a custom kill team with the addition of an eliminator and homebrew rules.
But on their own, these dudes aren't really worth much play-wise; to get a full tactical squad, you'd have to spend $80, which if I recall is more than it would cost to just buy the damn tactical squad box.
I feel like it might fit custodes slightly better, seeing as how every custodian has slightly different (but equally good) drip, so havinga bunch of random semi-unoque custodes in a unit would be interesting.
The issue people are having with that kill team one you showed us that in order to have all the strategy's both strategic and tactical you need to get all 7 marines.
I'm surprised it took people until the warhammer heroes with primaris to be outraged about this, considering the space marine heroes series had been around so long. Guess it was because they were asia exclusive
Honestly, the way I see it is that these are a great way to get alternate sculpts for specialty units. It's great for factions that have tons of Character Units because you get alternative sculpts for those characters. I genuinely hope that if they bring it back, they opt to do one for the Emperor's Children or the Thousand Sons because Death Guard had incredible sculpts and it would mean that KSons might actually get a Sorcerer model that *ISN'T* just a random model you dolled up or kitbashed.
Excited for them as a kill-team. I want a captain, heavy intercessor, eliminator, and then a bolt rifle and chainsword guy. What a kill team that would be!
I love me some special-posed minis, got the sergeant too, but unfortunately the prices for these minis went from 6,50€ to 8,50€ to 12,50€ and doubling the price for the same product just isn't gonna fly for me anymore.
It's great gift to give people when they want to start warhammer, as it's cheap and is a great way to give people easy to assemble mini that they don't have to worry about messing up
So, I’m a year late, but a very important note about these is they were not designed with the US or UK audience in mind, these were made to be produced in Japan, were these blind box style things are a lot more popular, to hopefully increase Warhammer sales over there, that’s why the sprue’s are a little different, you don’t have to clip them, just pop them off
I think the small blind boxes are nice I like to make a small purchase from my store whenever i go to play, and instead of a 3$ paint buying a small mini is nice variety when i have no paints i need or want
A lot of second hand sellers will sometimes remove the rarer models. I bought a full box set of the terminator set and didn’t get the ancient or captain models, which tells me they opened it and removed the models and then resealed everything. I believe the full set is supposed to contain all the models.
100% GW should make a 5 men squad of unique sculpts for each faction, call it Trazyns collection and put them in blind boxes. Its free money and "cheap" fun thing to paint
I like this idea. I would very much get one of these every now and them. Would mean you could build a squad, one piece at a time. And it let's you have troops with some more personality
So I will add that the more space marines heroes box is less randomized. If you buy the whole package of them then you get every mini in the set plus one, this was done so you could play killteam with them (which they have rules for) but if you buy them one at a time in an open package then it’s random. I hope they do this again with another army
I use two of these for the same reason, my tactical marines came from an old box whoch omits the missle launcher, so I bought two of these and got the sergent and missile launcher. Pretty cool deal
As a non space marine player the upcoming one with the primaris kill team im actually excited about because even for the full set garunteed its still cheaper than going and getting all the boxes of all the different styles of space marines
I bought some of the first ones you showed off and I love em, got the heavy, the dude with the smoke, and some seemingly average dude (I forgot all of their specifications) really wanting to get the or just A sniper eventually
that's how I got my warpsmith long story sure a Christmas gift for my brother eventually became a tech marine converted into a warpsmith with rendome bits
Blind boxes are also a good way to get rare heroes, and they aren't really random you are guaranteed one of each in a box. And one duplicate. Poor death guard finally got one of their models that had been only in a paint box in Japan for only the second time.
Imagine if they made a Trayzn Codex and instead of buying all your minis directly you just buy a random models blind box (Under the assumption Trayzn has found a method of mind control for separate factions)
I kinda want that to be a thing, i love lego cmf because really no matter what i got from those i always found a way to use it, with 40k this basically allows me to build an army and get practice for cheap
I understand the apprehension around it. Currently, you can buy your whole squad in one go. That's just one purchase. No hunting needed and you get everything you need to go. If they start doing randomised buys, it might start to feel like you're pulling packs of trading cards to build a new deck, constantly looking for that one ultra rare card that you just need 1 more of, but you keep on getting the same 40 common cards no matter how many packs you open. So long as they keep the box sets alongside the blind boxes, it shouldn't be an issue... But I certainly understand the fear. 40k is already expensive enough as it is, without having to randomise your buys too... I spent nearly 50 quid on building my yugioh deck (two starters and 10 booster packs+a few singles) That's about how much it costs to buy a full 40k army at my local shop. Can probably get it a bit cheaper if I'm willing to hop the train. But man, fuck having to buy individual figures... My most expensive card was £7... And that was Super Poly.
I liked them when they were firstborn when the main line range were all primaris so it made them special but the newest one is just primaris but you wouldn't be able to tell them apart from the normal kits. I'd personally prefer if they made more series for other chapters and chaos legions like thousand suns, iron warriors, space wolf's, dark angles, ultra marines and more like what they did for the death guard.
I like them as an entry point for ppl interested in trying to paint the minis. Their assembly leaves a bit to be desired, but if it makes the price lower then I can understand that
My biggest issue with them is that they're not available in most countries. I was lucky enough to snag the full season 3 collection (Death Guard) when a local games store somehow managed to get a few of them. But now I'm left desperately hoping the same will happen for the Primaris version, as I love the models and would love to be able to ad them to my loyalists
Most boxes cost 45 to 65 or more US dollars. Single models for 8 dollar would be more expensive for a 10 man squad. But it is a lot easier to justify buying one or two a week then one box a month.
These replaced the Quick Squad build boxes and I'll never forgive Games Workshop for getting rid of them. The quick build boxes were some of the best value boxes out there, especially for guard and orks. A box of 10 orks was about 28 euros, while the small blister of 4 was around 7. So for 28 euros you got 16 boyz. Yes, you didn't have a nob and they were all mono-pose and identical, but when you were building up a thundering WAAAAAGH you didn't really care. It also incentiviced people to try out other factions by buying the small group and giving them a go. If you didn't like them you had just a few that you could give to someone else, and if you liked them they were a good start to collecting.
What Comes up must come down! Yet my feet don't touch the ground! Seein' the world spinnin' upside down! A mighty crash without a sound! I can feel your every rage! Step aside, I'll turn the page! Breaking through your crazy maze! Like a laser beam my eyes on you!
I'm just glad I made it to get a Warhammer pop figure before they were gone, because Warhammer is many things: Grim, dark, violent, but cheap? Is not one of them.
ah yes, the trazyn collection the box has models in the common tier (marines and battleline) uncommon tier (certain standalone heroes) and the primarch tier (its just fulgrim)
Definitely a product more out there for the painter as opposed to a player of the game. Blind boxes are fun and as far as I know they haven't used the boxes to distribute any mechanically unique figures
I know the Death Guard blind boxes are the only way currently to get the Plaguecaster, but I could be wrong
@@tsrz2829 There's also the Chosen of Mortarion kit, though the sculpt you get for the plaguecaster is different
I used them for test models before I got a 3d printer
Not yet.
ohhhh could you imagine if they made like five unique models and put them in random blind boxes? I would buy their whole stock
Games workshop: WRITE THAT DOWN, RIGHT THAT DOWN.
You give them to much credit
"And sell it for 40$!"
The blind boxes are also great for Kill Team, especially if you’re playing intercessors.
A box of intercessors comes with 10 models, an intercessors kill team consists of 6 models, grab two models with the blind boxes and now you have two different kill teams to build instead of one kill team and four unused models
Hell yeah
I believe the idea of having four "unused" models is that you can change your team to be better equipped against certain kill teams.
@@Indigo_Indignation no, the idea is that the model kit is built for 40K where you can have a unit of 5-10 models. Kill Team is not a factor in the design
The Warhammer blind boxes are not actually random. Getting a case means getting one of everything.
True, but its pot luck when you buy them individually in a store. They're are random in thr sense they are intended to be sold individually as blind packs.
@@briochepanda except they barcode each one individually. So you know what your going to get
@thomassmart4227 Can't say I knew that, but now I have been informed.
@@briochepandamy lgs sells them as singles or a whole box
As a $10 blind box, yeah sure! Totally cool, and me being a painter more than player I dig it
Yup! I picked up a few to learn how to paint on
They used to do these for a few different factions, there was like 8 Nids, 5 guardsmen, 3 marines (of either flavour) and 4 ork boyz. They were £6 each at the time and all monopose, but they were good! There might be more or less models in each box, I can’t remember though
Ye i used to love those boxes! Perfect for testing out your schemes before committing to your main force
God I miss those boxes. The guard one singlehandedly made the faction affordable, they're so unbelievably underrated
What were they called ?
@@EasyCosmo I have no idea at this point, I think they were called Booster boxes or something similar? It’s been quite a few years since then
Wierd that they can make a singel unit so much cheaper then the rest of thier products😂
But on their own, these dudes aren't really worth much play-wise; to get a full tactical squad, you'd have to spend $80, which if I recall is more than it would cost to just buy the damn tactical squad box.
Dam man. That Trazyn reference really is slick as hell.
I feel like it might fit custodes slightly better, seeing as how every custodian has slightly different (but equally good) drip, so havinga bunch of random semi-unoque custodes in a unit would be interesting.
Honestly scalpers love these type of things such as the death guard boxes that’s currently out of stock again
I like them but purely because I’m always impulse buying and I like the randomness
Oh my god.
Trazyn's Collection.
*Genius.*
I got the sergeant too! Painted him really badly lol.
Ah, but you painted him and that's no bad thing. 😁🖌️
"the Trayzin Collection" that is absolutely brilliant
I bought one every time I went into my local hobby store, managed to get a full set before I doubled up. Highlight of my year
“It’s one mini for 8 bucks!” Said like that’s a good deal lmao 😂
Im hyped for the reprint of the death guard space marine heros so you don't have to spend 200 on 6 minis
Their pre orders sold out quick

The 'Trazyn's collection' 😂😂😂
Awesome 👌 👏 👍
The issue people are having with that kill team one you showed us that in order to have all the strategy's both strategic and tactical you need to get all 7 marines.

Definitely not a paid promotion lmao getting the rarest from the first pull 💀💀💀
Excited for them as a kill-team. I want a captain, heavy intercessor, eliminator, and then a bolt rifle and chainsword guy. What a kill team that would be!
I’d love it gw would do a bits box. Just random bits from any models. Like arms, legs guns heads etc

"Famously non-random Warhammer"
Meanwhile me rolling up to hundreds of dice per game.
Crazy how the last firstborn models to be made were the first run of the hero’s boxes, hopefully here’s to more firstborn at some point in the future
I completely fucking agree. I would love Ork blind boxes!
I bought one of the Heroes boxes, I’m really loving painting it, it’s a blast!
"UNCLE TRAZYN COLLECTIONS" 😂
Sometimes I see a UA-cam video that sparks my interest in trying a technique on a single mini, in comes the hero boxes. Great product
I'm just a painter, and lore reader. I loved them.
This is incredible for deathwatch
And if you dislike the random buy the set you get each mini and an extra when you do that.
I think it can be a cool way of adding variety of models in your units.
It’s all part of hooking you in. You get a bunch of single figures and soon you’ll be jonesing for more of that plastic crack
*Scratches neck* Got any more of them blind boxes?
I got a handful from target of all places with no repeats. I love it, made me super happy. I'd kill for mixed sampler blind boxes
