  • In today's tutorial, I'll show you a very good way of making an arcade stick enclosure out of a wood-top monitor stand, and how to wire everything up. The controllers that you'll see in this episode are brought to you by my UA-cam buddy, Glen Planamento, and you'll see that they have been manufactured to the highest standards. This Arcade controller has a Tron Flight stick, spinner and trackball and is PC and Playstation 3 compatible. During today's episode, you'll see how I overcame a number of hurdles to accomplish something I've never done before... and I'm thinking you can accomplish this just as I did. All it takes is a bit of motivation!
    Glen's UA-cam channel is found here: / gplanamento
    Thunderstick is the manufacturer of the components and they are found at Amazon at the following links:

    Spinner:

    12-in-1 encoder for spinner and trackball:

    These controllers are made available on Amazon and sell out, but then are replenished, so be persistent in your attempt to obtain them. Keep going back!
    The arcade buttons that I obtained were from this link: www.amazon.com...
    Parts for the arcade stick enclosure:
    1)Monitor stand
    2) thin balsa wood
    3) wood board
    4) larger compressed woodfiber board
    5) 1/2 inch screws
    6) 3/8 inch screws
    7) 5/8 inch screws
    7) Woodpile Fun wood slabs (only needed if depth of monitor stand is insufficient)
    8) Wood glue

    I want something like this but with the spinner being able to pull up and push down. The Arcade Game Discs Of Tron spinner did that.
    Great videos. I asked on another video if you bought or made the controller but now I know. Subscribed.

    I'm looking to build a 2 player USB fightstick with a spinner and trackball. Something I could use for the Atari VCS when I put it in PC mode and run MAME. Can that be done? Is there a plan for it somewhere?

      I don't have the Atari VCS that was released a few years ago, so I'm not sure what the compatibility requirements are. The Atariage website has specific forums that may be up to the challenge of getting you an answer about the VCS, so check that out.

    It's unfortunate. I have my set up connections exactly how you have yours. Except for the fact the Tron stick only comes with the atgames wiring and not the wiring harness that came with yours. I've tried everything I can think of to get it working but it just isn't. It's very frustrating.

      I just got my Tron stick today and it didn't have the encoder board either. Unfortunately GRS no longer includes the encoder board so you have to buy a usb encoder board. But I'm just gonna wire mine to my old X-Arcade P/S 2 encoder and get a PS/2 to usb cable.

    Hi.
    If I’m just using this for MAME, do I need to worry about following the diagram for the buttons all that much? In Mame, you program the buttons using the software anyway, so I’m just wondering if I’d still follow the diagram.
    Thx

    • @wiredupretro
      @wiredupretro  4 роки тому +1

      I put each button in a specific place for the purpose of being able to intuitively play PS3 games (and the backward-compatible PS1 games like Raiden Project within a PS3). In other words, you want the X button (PC button 2) to be on the left side of the controller and not the right side (where the joystick is). You also probably want PC button 1 (Playstation Square button) to be the trigger on the stick, so on many PC emulator games (ie. Tron or Zaxxon) the game will have you innately using that trigger to fire away. If all you're going to use it on is Mame, it may be okay to not worry too much about button placement, but at least make that trigger represent button 1 or 2 of a PC controller. You might regret it later if you don't do that.

    • @wiredupretro
      @wiredupretro  4 роки тому +2

      @@darrenmarchand647 Okay, I suppose you'd just need to buy a second stick (which will come with a second encoder board) and extra buttons. Run another USB cord from that second joystick encoder to the USB hub that's inside the enclosure. Then you'll have to configure how it all is utilized within Mame's controller configuration menu. It might be a little complicated, but hopefully manageable. Make sure you comment here when you succeed with this!

    🕹️🕹️🕹️Yo Wired up!!, I want to replace the joystick in my Pandora's box for an Ikari Warrior style rotating joystick. Do you have a link to someone that has an exact drop in assembly so I can play those types of "move and twist" games? Also can you make a simple video on how to install the 12 way rotary joystick? Thanks man.

    • @wiredupretro
      @wiredupretro  3 роки тому +1

      So I happened upon this video
      ua-cam.com/video/UennRIieaA8/v-deo.html
      which is about playing Ikari Warriors with keyboard and mouse (mouse doing the gun aiming and keyboard doing the WASD movement control), and saw a comment that Synthesizer Patel made just yesterday:
      "If you're lucky you can find an original Happ Rotary stick on Ebay - but they're rare as Happ no longer make them and the price will reflect that.
      Ultimarc make a kit which can convert a standard JLW-TM-8 (or Ultimarc's copy called the J-stick) or a Servostik - into a rotary stick."
      The kit is about $60 and the JLW-TM-8 joystick runs about $30, so it's going to set you back a few bucks. No promises on a video being produced on my channel about this, but it is interesting to me... so, who knows :)

    So painful watching end connector mod - Still married? It would have been easier to cut connectors off and buy a bunch of 3/16" (0.187") 4.8mm female spade connectors from hardware store or electronics supply and re-crimp the ends. Looks that the harness was designed for Sanwa-Denshi style buttons and not Suzo-Happ. The two main styles.

      Yep- my gracious wife lent a hand without much of a fuss. A real gem :)
      I really wanted the Suzo-Happ buttons on this controller, but you are definitely right about how it took a significant chunk of time to get the connectors modified the way I did it when just going with Sanwa buttons would've prevented the whole issue.
