I rode a Xr for a week in the Alps, great bike even with the wife on the back handles great and the pro asst. shiftier is awesome especially down hill into a tight switch back, only went around like 200 of them. The thing i didn't like was the kick stand is about an inch short which doesn't seem like a big deal unless the bike is loaded then its quite a tug to get the bike straight! The other issue is that a low rpm and then give it some throttle the throttle body is really loud even thru a helmet! But over all i would buy one in a minute but for now i will keep my 2011 Multi as i just love the way it handles and sounds with the full Tergamoni system!! the Ducati has a character that i really like! I am older and wiser know and no longer buy the latest and greatest! i but a when the bike is two years old and save a bunch , it also allows me to see what all the bugs are before buying!!
Great review. I find the engine on mine runs hot, is toys the same? Mine is normally between 70c to 100c more 80c to 95c depending on the speed I am doing.
Best and most informative review out there. Had mine for 6 months riding in and around London and love her. Best bike I have ridden less my old Blackbird. Thanks for being proper English in a Euro country!!!!! Keep clogging buddy, I would like to see you at Nuremberg ring, planning to ride out and do it too sometime. Best, dougie
Great vid Shaun, as always! I own a Garmin 590LM too. Does the BMW navigation wheel on the handlebar still work combined with the Garmin 590LM? What can you operate with the navigation wheel in the BMW Navigate 5? Grüssen aus Amsterdam :-)
No the wheel doesn't work at all with the Garmin 590! Think with the Nav it will do it all, although I'm pretty sure it would be quicker just use you finger. You have to imagine that you need to turn the wheel to navigating through the menus structure, then push a button to select something, I think this is done quicker with tapping the screen. I'm not really bothered that it didn't work with the 590. And don't forget the 590 will not fit in the Nav 5 mount, so that why you don't get the function of the wheel.
Great job,as always. Really appreciate your reviews, but I brought a Ducati. I now own a BMW R 1200s and now a Ducati Mulitstrada. Always wanted some mumbo that only a Ducati can give. Still watch all your posts and enjoy them all. Keep them coming. Well done old mate. That's a Aussie thing. Old mate. lol.
Always appreciate kind comments, cheers! Unfortunately as the channel grows I find myself blocking idiots that feel they need to be a dick! all though, more vids on the way. I did love the Multistrada too, has great character! thanks for the support👍
wired it into a relay under the seat, but have now seen that it can be done into the existing sat nav harness, as you said, you just need the correct connecter
Well done and honest. Says a lot that you came back around to it. I like the design that can support cases and touring. I commute my old R1150R with top case almost always - just so practical. I've seen a lowered suspension version that might fit me better. Du sprichst doch gut Deutsch! 👍🏼🏁
Don't forget that the bike is available in a low suspension model, this comes with a low seat as well as lowered suspensio, so forget the bike is for tall guys only ...... it's not. Get out and order one.
roger stansfield Having read & watched as many reviews of the 1000XS as I can it does seem to be the consensus of opinion that with the lowered suspension & lower seat option the bike isn’t as comfortable as with the stock set up. It’s a shame because the bike looks & sounds fantastic but at 5’6 I think I’d struggle with such a tall bike.
@@stevesargant5041 I'm 5'7ish and growing up riding tall bikes (enduro/dualsport) for me, even with my wife on back, the low suspension and seat height on my 2018 S1XR feels quite fine. Yes, I'm a 1-foot-planted-at-stops kind of rider, but alas, most bikes I love will always be this way. Nothing will stop me from riding what I want.
Like I said! That's something to ask your local dealer where the work would potentially be done, not of someone who perhaps lives in a different country to you, where the pricing is most certainly different.
Hi Shaun, very interesting and informative video. I'm interested to know about your tank bag; what make is it and how good is the magnetic connection? Cheers, Andy
Hi Andy Tank bag is from Sw-motech, but it's not connected with magnets. It comes with a bike specific adapter that mounts to your tank filler cap, and rachets on and off. Much better than magnets, the bag doesn't even touch the paint work! very good bit if kit👍
Hi, Can you list the actual model. I recently bought the Oxford version but with my bar risers and bars tilted back a bit, the bag keeps catching and unhooking from the filler cap. That one you have looks much better as it seems to sit further back from the bars.
+Kryten L this is the tank bag, but you'd need the filler cap ring as well, also found on this site shop.sw-motech.com/cgi-bin/cosmoshop/lshop.cgi?action=showdetail&wkid=146826878110178&ls=en&nc=1468268811-11123&rubnum=brands.bmw.s1000xr&artnum=BC.TRS.00.104.20001&id=16&gesamt_zeilen=Tshowrub--brands.bmw.s1000xr&typid=219546053
Solid review, mentions everything. Its a deceiving bike, looks and sits like a GS Adventure bike. But its actually a liter sportbike for people with back problems.
Jim Tucker The spray is from foilatech. I've never been a fan of stock exhausts and always change them. Although it sounded pretty good, they're just so big and heavy, and not so good looking.
Last question on the spray on vinyl. I don't have access to the brand you used. I'm looking at Autodip which comes in matte and gloss. Which finish would you recommend. Also was considering spraying my red panniers black as well but not sure if the heat from the exhaust would effect the durability. Thanks once again!
Jim Tucker I used a Matt finish, but sprayed it on the inside of the screen, so from the outside it appears gloss. You won't have an issue with heat if you repaint your panniers, get it done professionally and it'll be fine.
Good to know it's not just mine. I don't notice the vibes either. The only issue I have with the bike is I find the seat uncomfortable, although I think it's more due to my skinny Arse then the seat 😀
It's from Foliatec, think it's a German make. Fairly expensive but we'll worth it! sprayed it on the inside so it holds nicely and hasn't shown any sign of wear. The beauty of it though is that you can peel it straight off and do it again, should it become worn!
I like this bike but find the exhaust too loud, becoming unbearable on longer rides… Even with earplugs.. and unfortunately there isn’t any fix for this
Most worthless review I saw in 6 months. And a gs is really higher. I have both. Gs rallye 2018 on Lowest stand is even higher to sit and to get your leg over.

Hi there, nice review. Does the bike have a lean angle indicator like the S1000RR when you get into the track type menus and displays?
Thanks

Not seen that, it may do but haven't used the track and race menu's yet

Thank you for an informative review. I'm buying a bike this year to replace my beloved 1998 VFR, and the XR is a definite contender.

What about the important stuff like service intervals and cost of servicing valve clearance

Nice one, thanks. Right, a practically unused Oxford to go up on ebay I think.

Can you let us know what spray vinyl you used for the stock windscreen? Also, why did you switch to the Cobra exhaust? Thanks!

Yeah she runs hot, mine will go up to 103° when stood still, when on the move it varies between 80-90

+Count Miffed yeah every arse is differnet lol I find it great, can ride all day with no problems! may get it repolstered for a nicer look.
+TheLikeableRider I was thinking about getting the HP seat which is more comfortable but it increases the height which is no good for me.
+Count Miffed
yeah even at 6ft2 I'd be worried about increasing the height
Are the sliders big enough to protect all of the plastic in the event of a stationary drop ?
Steve Harley
For sure! Haven't dropped mine, but they are high up and stick out enough that it all protected

Hi! Nice video! I got the XR too and it also makes that "clonk" sound from the side- or centerstand... what is it!?
It's the center stand! had a good look the other day. The side stand has a rubber bung to stop it from banging when it swings up.
Is this bike any good offroad?
Have seen it done yes
Thought so. Left sennelager (worst lager in world) in 92 miss the cleanliness and tax free kit!!!
Yeah what a shit hole, I live 45 mins from there
