From my work in a pharmacy (and preparation of a lot of antibiotic syrup) I can give a tip. Mix the powder with an eighth of the amount of liquid in the container. Even a tablespoon or 2 will do. After the powder is well absorbed and is no longer visible - only then add the rest of the liquid. It works, always.

I purchased the frother, bottles and collagen powders from Amazon… I love everything I purchased. The frother makes it so easy to mix! The lemonade açaí powder Is the bomb!!
I take Vital protein for 2 years and didn't see any change in anything. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. My dermatologist told me marine collagen is better for the skin rather then bovine. She was right. After 6 months my skin and joint pain including my hair has grown like nwvwr before. My skin has plumped and lines have soften. I guess certain products don't always work for everyone
Interesting. I will stick to my home made broths. They work very well for me - vegetable, bone, fish and chicken. And I like the versatility I add to them to make them more effective in certain areas. For instance, one batch might have more turmeric and black pepper to get greater inflammation fighting and liver cleansing properties.
That is the ultimate goal but meanwhile when your sick tired and trying to get yourself to the best form it's good to have a crutch to help you on your way.if you have any tips on making broth easily it would be great. I've manged to make some veg broth buthats as far as I got.
I’ve been taking collagen supplements for a few years - I never really thought about what it was doing, just sort of have been taking it in case. But now that I think about it this might be part of why I’m 36 and mostly people think I’m about 28/29

I don't take collagen but I don't worship the sun or drink a lot of alcohol. My point is that it's practically impossible to pin it on taking collagen. P.S. I'm the last person who brad about looking young!
It is not surprising at all to look like you’re 10 years younger when you are in your 30s. Even people who don’t take care of themselves can look younger.
I’ve been drinking this collagen powder for almost 2 weeks. I can see my nails are strong and shiny. My hair looks shiny and I see less hair fall. And my skin is so clear. I am so surprised by the fast results. I will continue using the product. Thank you so much !!!
So happy to see a positive review for Sparkle! I have the Sparkle collagen- both the Skin Boost and the one for tendons and joints. I haven't had it for long so can't comment on any changes. I got the unflavored which I mix into bone broth (got that tip from a comment on a different post). I can't taste it in the bone broth and like that it's mixed with a natural food-based collagen source.
this is an excellent tip. i was wondering how to easily incorporate in to my routine. coffee is a great option but i also read that hot coffee can take away benefits. so many what if's. I am gonna buy the sparkle as it has over 8000 reviews and vp only has 7

Thank you for demystifying all of this for us. And thank you for suggesting the brands that you did and the why's behind the choices. Now I am ready to shop.
I just saw a video with Dr. Berg saying Jello works the same way. It's cheap too. I can't afford those expensive supplements, so I'm trying this. I just started today. I bought some Knox original gelatin...pure gelatin unflavored. Just mix a tablespoon in some water (warm water so it dissolves).

Hey Doc, I followed your recommendation and picked up the Skin Boost Plus in Lemonade and I love it! Tastes great! I am 60 and my age is starting to show, can't wait to see if I have good results! Thank you for sharing all your tips and knowledge.
I notice you did not discuss the Types of collagen. The brand I am using now, ForestLeaf, has Types I, II, and III. Could you address that in your future Q&A?
The one I use is hydrolyzed, and has all types, too. I used Vital Proteins at first, until I started researching hydrolyzed had better absorption, so I switched.
I have been using the brand Neocell for about 8 years now, and this is the first time I have heard about verisol. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
I ordered the Vital Proteins professional bioactive collagen complex and cannot wait to begin using the project. I have used the Vital Proteins in the blue container and really saw improvement with the growth of stronger nails and joint pain relief. I appreciate your analysis and love your channel. I take my powder in about 4 tbl spoons of orange juice, like a shot drink. The vitamin c is needed for the collagen to work, so It make sense to mix It with orange juice and it dissolves well.
The collagen powder I use was recommended by my naturopath : Great Lakes. Been putting it in my daily smoothie or take it in any liquid. It has no smell and no taste and dissolves easily. I also take hyaluronic acid in a capsule daily. Been taking that supplement for 17 years. Amazing product with great results for my joints and skin.
Thanks for the video. I recently saw a source (forget which one) on UA-cam that showed a study that concluded that marine collagen peptides are actually better for collagen development in skin. Thanks for all the info here!
I have been taking a scoop of Ancient Nutrition Multi-Collagen supplement everyday in my coffee/chocolate/milk. I’ve been taking this for the last 2yrs since I had meniscus tear where I was told that I needed surgery, but with prayers and I guess with the collagen supplement, my meniscus got restored (of course physical therapy helped a lot too). It was my first time to see your video today, the 1st one was the drug store skin products . Thank you for doing these helpful videos.

For Part 3: could you describe the improvements on the skin when taking collagen supplements week by week? Thank you for mentioning Vital Proteins since it’s a brand we can also find in Europe
Thank you Doctor for that valuable info. I will definitely check out your tips. I had a split thumbnail which was about 1/8 "" from the side of the nail. The narrow side of the nail detached and began to stick up. I had to tape it back down for about 2 years, however it never re-attached. Then I visited a bone-broth and gelatin video. A model who commented under this video said she was using copper peptides to keep up her skin's appearance. Then she switched to cow gelatin, and decided that cow gelatin was close or just as good as copper peptide. This set me off and I decided to try gelatin myself. I began sprinkling unflavored gelatin on my food before cooking. The gelatin melts and disappears, and is tasteless. After about 4 months, I noticed to my joy that the split and detached portion of the thumb nail was beginning to lie down and re-attach to the bed. That was a year ago, and now the thumb nail is normal. I found that I could add gelatin to my drinking water by heating the water first and then adding a small amount of gelatin, i.e "protein water". The gelatin remains dissolved during the day so long as the water is not cooled. If it is cooled, then pieces of gelatin appear however that doesn't bother me. I love gelatin now. Thank you again for your work and information on this channel and things to try.
I have been using Native Path collagen since September 2021 and it has significantly eased my arthritic knee pain. I am really bad at recognizing changes in skin and wrinkles but I think there's been some improvement. Are the powders you reviewed effective for joints as well as skin? Which Vital Protein version would you recommend for skin and joints? What about the effectiveness of Sparkle on joint health?
I recently went to OB/Gyn and asked what I could take for thin skin, brittle nails and hair. She said collagen! I am 3 years in to post menopausal and women tend to suffer what our bodies should have/produce. Thank u for in depth info and feel confident to research the few u recommended/use and determine why may be best for me to try. Thank u!!❤
I am curious of what you think about capsule form. I've been taking a capsule form for about five years, for joint joint health but notice how much healthier my hair and nails are. Am I getting any benefits for my joints or just for my hair, skin and nails. Also, what does type III, IV mean?
The capsules just have a much smaller amount of milligrams vs a full scoop or two. Some studies show that 10-40 milligrams are needed for joint benefits. So at least ten mg daily is good, that's the amount I take.
Hi! Really interesting video. My only question is - what would be the ideal dosage of collagen per day? Does it depend on weight/height/age or are there absolute values?
They’ve raised the price recently, but many things are going up. Is the blue version verisol though? I didn’t see it I’m the container. I’ve bought many jars of it also. Now they have a celebrity endorser which could be why they are raising their prices
I bought pure marine collagen from Japan. I only use it when I'm not drinking soup/broth. Collagen supplement can be pretty expensive. As I'm Asian, drinking hot soup is part of my staple food. I usually use bones, bone marrows, chicken feet, kelp boil over long hours on low to make broth. When cooled in fridge you can see a thick gelatine mixture. Sometimes I will use dried anchovies with kelp soup. I love soup because it can be so nutritious, and delicious. I add onions, veg into the broth too and it makes a great dish over dinner too.
Am Australian. Didn't realise that it would be so hard to find an effective product. Edited to add that I went and did some Googling and discovered that I have been accidentally eating a collagen rich diet. Going to keep doing that but add bones broth to my menu.
I was hoping there was a capsule form that you were going to advise as dislike taking mix ins. Can you please do a part 3 which includes capsule recommendations. Thanks
In 2019, I started to take Gelita's Verisol 2.5 g, Fortibone 5 g., and Fortigel 5 g for bone and joint issues from 'Designs For Health' and have noticed skin improvement as well. Nice to see that Vital Proteins also sells this blend in their Professional line. It's good to have a choice.
Take Gelatine powders instead because it is way less expensive and as good. I mix 3 teaspoon (approx 12g) to ginger and a slash of apple cider vinegar in a tea. The other ingredients should enzymatically hydrolyse the gelatine (partially hydrolysed collagen) more for easier absorption/bioavailability.
Hi. I love Vital Proteins bovine and marine collagen. Marine is my preference. I think I would benefit from the blue and pink Professional ones as I am looking for bone and joint AND skin. How do you recommend incorporating both Professional Products? Thank you so much!
Love your channel! Thank you for this in-depth look at collagen supplements! Are there any pills that are recommended as well? Will have to give this a try. Thanks!!
Just started on the Sparkle Wellness powder. Using the trick of dissolving the scoop full in just a little water in the glass, then adding the rest of the water. Works great, no clumps at all. Just stir with a spoon..no need to use a frother. Can’t wait to see if I get results!
Please do a video explaining which type of collagen (I, II, III or V) these brands you recommend use. I’m wondering if it’s helpful to mix brands in order to get get all four of these types in our supplements.
I rarely watch review till the end. But yours was so good I was captivated by everything you said. Great information, excellent research. 10/10 thank you
I was eagerly awaiting this video, finally it's here! I'll definitely give these a try, I've been interested in trying collagen supplements ever since your original video. What do you think about collagen capsules? Is it equivalent to powder?
I use Canprev collagen, Canadian company, and they have many different collagens, and they also have a book, so you can see what is the best for you, right now I am using tendo support, because I am having problems with my joints and tendons in my shoulder, then I will move to joint support
I am wondering which one to take for being 70. Facial skin is not the problem at this point. I do have some creapy skin on arms and legs and do probably need for joints. Is it recommended to take 2 different types of collagen for my issues? My chiropractor recommends taking Zymessence daily which is a body enzyme.
There are more sources for collagen than bovine and marine. The powder I take lists collagen by types (I, II, III, V and X for instance) and attributes them to sources like bovine and wild-caught fish but also farm-raised chicken and eggshell membrane. Apparently, each source of collagen provides a different kind of effect in the body. Is that true?
Can you share the brand you are using that has all these types? I'm thinking in terms of bio-accumulation, chickens have a much shorter lifecycle than cows. So in thinking about the presence of undetected heavy metals in our supplements, I'm assuming those collagen brands that uses marine or poultry collagen may contain less environmental pollutants. This is just a theory. We have no way of verifying if the animals are processed from a clean farm and has an organic, hormone-free or free range lifestyle outside of their labels.
@@p_eople6789 Interesting! The brand I'm referring to is Vitauthority. Alas, it does not contain Verisol collagen, but the powder it offers dissolves easily and completely (much more quickly than Dr. Locke's in this video), and I am reluctant to give that up. I do think it meets all her other criteria.
I have dealt with telogen effluvium for years . Most likely due to stress and Celiac disease. Have maintained a gluten free healthy diet with supplements for years, but continued to struggle with hair loss, thin nails etc. After taking Sparkle Skin Boost Plus for several months, hair shedding has significantly slowed. Hair texture and nail strength much improved. Thank you for the product information. No plans to stop - one scoop a day. Love the results!
Hi! Great video! I never thought to use a milk frother to help blend the powder so thanks for that tip! I like to freeze my drinks, making them into a slushie like consistency; does freezing a collagen powder mixed drink negatively effect the efficacy of it?
I use hydrolyzed marine collagen (10g a day in my tea). I also take 1000 mg of absorbic vitamin c daily, helps the body absorb the collagen better. So far my hair and nails have improved, and I've been taking it for a little over 2 months.
I’ve been using the vital proteins collagen for two months now. I enjoy it in my coffee in the morning. So far I do see an improvement in my skin. Now I’m going to consider the Professional line. Thanks for sharing
Nice video. All companies say you can mix it in cold or hot water but we know that protein is destroyed in hot water. Putting it in coffee will destroy the protein wouldn't it? Please address this.
WOW-so informative! Thanks for the work you put into these videos. My question is- I was taking the blue Vital Protein but would switch to the Professional version. What did I wanted joint advantage + skin/hair/nails? Can you take both versions???
@Dr. Locke: I've been taking BioSil capsules and I can see a difference in my nails.....hopefully, it's making a difference in my skin and hair. I have osteoporosis and hoping it will help too. I would really appreciate your opinion on this product. Thank you!
I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Thak you SO much for all this. I work for a company that makes Collagen. Bovine & also a Blend. For skin the best collagen is Marine or Fish as it is the smallest molecularly (Bovine is larger) Must be taken with vitamin C for optimum synthetization. Verisol is the best. The best like you say is if you can get it from your diet that is just so hard to do. Also, anyone using a powder peptide should ask their Dr first even though it isn't a whole protein it may still not be for everyone.
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel. The information you are providing is useful and saves everyone money and time eliminating research on products. 🔷I have a question about bovine ingredients. You mentioned that bovine ingredients should be grass fed. My question is shouldn't bovine grass fed ingredients also be grass finished and are there any collagen products that are both grass fed and grass finished? My understanding is that grass fed is only the best product when it is also grass finished.
Thank you so much - I trust your recommendation. Your advice and your video is clear, quick, easy to understand and professional. I love it. I've put in my order just on your presentation. Excellent! Thank you and I look forward to more.
Thank you for this video. You explain everything so well. 2 questions came to mind though,1) Has there been any research that you know of about whether adding the powder to a hot beverage vs a cold one reduces the efficacy of the collagen? 2) The good gut ingredients you mentioned that were in the vital protein were a very desirable added plus to justify the price. I have always heard confusing info regarding temperature and so forth to keep those friendly bacteria active, since they are in powder form do you think they still are beneficial and also again, does mixing in cold beverages vs help with that? I would welcome your thoughts on this. Thanks!
I can attest to this working. I'm 57 and have used the Sparkle product for 2 weeks. This morning, I looked in the mirror and already noticed a big difference in my skin. Im so happy with the results. It tastes awesome too.
My question is regarding the different types of collagen. (Type I, II, III...) - and the uses. And is there 1 comprehensive good brand to take? In addition, do we need higher supplementation as we age? and finally - I 2nd the question about Ancient Nutrition brand (listed below)
Thank you so much for this information! I am planning on trying this and will comment back after my four week trial. Again, thank you for what you do! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for such an informative video! As a healthcare professional, I appreciate learning more about the science behind products. This seems odd but have you heard of people experiencing acne (facial and/or on body) when taking collagen peptides daily? I have enjoyed taking but I was noticing increased breakouts or bumps on my back, chest and arms. Maybe coincidence or other dietary changes, but when I took a break for a couple of weeks, I didn’t see more develop and my skin was looking clearer. I was using the vital proteins in the blue tub. I’m now very interested in switching to one with Verisol though!
I too experience A LOT of acne when I try taking different collagen supplements. I’m 46 and have noticed this when taking collagen supplements for the last 5 years. I’ve been trying “the best” supplements out there (including Dave Asprey’s bulletproof collagen supplements), and brands from Germany and Switzerland, and always get bad cystic acne after taking the collagen (esp the bovine derived sources). Don’t know why. Very frustrating.
Wondering if the supplement contains whey? Sometimes whey and other dairy products can cause cystic acne. For example it happens to people who go to the gym and drink protein powders, end up with bacne and don't realize it's the whey in the protein powder. If it's the case, maybe switch to one that doesn't have whey and see if it works?
About 7 comments above yours is one by Kim Young saying Vital Protein got sued for having heavy metals in it. Also people are claiming Nestle bought them and removed the Hyaluronic Acid.
I haven’t heard you address liquid versus powder or pill form. I use the vital protein and find it great. Mixes well with no clumps and no taste in my coffee.
I am considering the vital professional. What is the difference between the one for skin and the one for joints ? I need help with both, wrinkle reduction and joint mobility. Great video. Just subscribed
Thanks much for the useful info, Dr. Locke. I just purchased the no flavor version of the sparkle verisol collagen [5g] directly from the manufacturer and it doesn't clump even when mixed with warm water/in my coffee... I mixed it with my spoon so likely they have changed the consistency so no need to purchase a mixer. Btw, Costco has similar verisol collagen that has received very positive reviews and much cheaper. Perhaps you could review this as well.
Thank you for this and all your videos. My question is how much of the supplement should be taken? Is once a day enough or should we have it more? Thank you in advance for your answer to this.
Have you looked at Umzu's collagen? I don't see it reviewed much, but it has all 5 collagens humans can process rather than the two common chicken and bovine. They're worth a look as they're very transparent and advise they source from the most bio-available forms. Thoughts on all 5 and this product?
I just started using AppliedNutrition's liquid collagen (4000 mg collagen; 2000mg biotin 6000 mg silica), not only for my skin, but at 65, my joints are not what they used to be! I want to know what Dr. Maren is suggesting. Can't wait!
Great tip thanks for sharing!

I’ve been taking collagen supplements for a few years - I never really thought about what it was doing, just sort of have been taking it in case. But now that I think about it this might be part of why I’m 36 and mostly people think I’m about 28/29

I am curious of what you think about capsule form. I've been taking a capsule form for about five years, for joint joint health but notice how much healthier my hair and nails are. Am I getting any benefits for my joints or just for my hair, skin and nails. Also, what does type III, IV mean?
My question also. Have not tried these but would prefer a capsule.
The capsules just have a much smaller amount of milligrams vs a full scoop or two.
Some studies show that 10-40 milligrams are needed for joint benefits. So at least ten mg daily is good, that's the amount I take.
You could probably put the powder into your own capsules. Just fill up capsules that are a scoops worth.

What about beef gelatin used for cooking/baking, since gelatin has the same amino acid profile.

Good question
Take Gelatine powders instead because it is way less expensive and as good. I mix 3 teaspoon (approx 12g) to ginger and a slash of apple cider vinegar in a tea. The other ingredients should enzymatically hydrolyse the gelatine (partially hydrolysed collagen) more for easier absorption/bioavailability.

Isn’t skin 1 and 3 best?
@@unamass75 I think so, but I'm not sure why. I hope this question is addressed.

Thank you for this video.

Your hair is INSANELY gorgeous. Like wow.
Thanks much for the useful info, Dr. Locke. I just purchased the no flavor version of the sparkle verisol collagen [5g] directly from the manufacturer and it doesn't clump even when mixed with warm water/in my coffee...
