  • Five Medals is a Premier Living History (Reenactment) Event covering the years 1750-1815. Five Medals has always been a family-friendly event, but this year my wife and I wanted to go further and spend the weekend participating as reenactors with our toddler.
In this video I share vignettes from the event as well as some thoughts and tips from our experience to help you get your family involved in living history.

Five Medals 2025 will be held in Napanee, Indiana! We're excited to share that in 2025, the Five Medals Living History event will be held in the former Amish Acres event sight. The new space will provide Five Medals with more room to grow, less light/noise pollution and make for a more immersive event.

Pro-dad tip: continue to bring the books and toys. The outdoors are prefect for kids until they are trapped in the tent by rain for a couple of days, then the books will be handy.

Just awesome. We all get hung up on doing it “perfect”. The point is to do it, have fun, and learn. Well done!

Exactly! We have so much information now, which is good, but it can also be paralyzing.

I do think a bunch of living history guys should get together and form a drought relief company, since it rains where ever we make a camp

Great video of living history and the rain just makes it more real, will at least for me. I always enjoy the young folks running around the Rendezvous. It is a truly humbling experience knowing what our early generation went through in life.

I attended a Civil War Encampment this weekend and it rained Saturday but a lovely day today. The tents were like yours and pretty timeless indeed. Kind Thanks and Many Blessings! And being a parent is indeed a gift! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

Nice Video Ethan, I have been doing American Rev for over 20 years now sometimes my wife will spend the weekend and I do the same thing we use army cots and sleeping bags. She's not as big on the whole 18th century weekends so I make it as nice as I can for her and still try to keep a period camp as best as I can. So glad you and your family had a great weekend. God bless you and keep the vids coming..
    Cheers from Colorado.

You always have the best videos. I’m at a time in my life right now where every waking moment is taken up with work and I don’t have time to go shooting, build my muzzleloading rifle kits or go camping and your videos help me to get through this time, thank you so much for sharing and the great content.

Great video, Ethan. Went a Celebration of Life gathering for an old friend. Talked with his adult son as we were leaving and his best memory of his Dad was camping at our Rondy when he was nine, frying bacon over the fire, watching mountain men dancing around the fire to mandolin tunes. Just a tip don't loose the wedge tent. As your daughter grows it can serve as her own room and if the Lord blesses you with more you can build your own company street.

ETHAN, That is the way to start out. If you go totally primitive you may waste a lot of money on the wrong stuff. Go slow and keep it enjoyable. When you don't enjoy it. You will start to look for reasons to stop going . Good for you to get the family involved. Be safe, thank you for the vedio.

My wife and I have been reenacting ACW for the past four years. I can tell you it's definitely something wrangling 4 toddlers in camp.

We've been re-enacting, and doing living history events for the War Between the States for more than forty years. Great family fun! After that I started doing Spanish-American war, then WWII (both GI, and German), and now I've picked up F&I War, and early Rev war clothing, and weapons, but in reality I probably won't be able to pursue that discipline. I love your videos...thank you.

Hey Eathan, I noticed that those two flintlocks that you showed a close-up of are left-handed flintlocks. I'm left-handed. I have an old cap lock muzzleloader, it's for a right-hander, but I still shoot it left-handed. I really enjoy your channel.

For camp any tent setups is it just plain old canvas? Or is there some sort of additional liquid to make it something like oilcloth

    • @ILoveMuzzleloading
      @ILoveMuzzleloading  2 місяці тому +1

The tent I used here is plain canvas, I have a trekking tarp that is oiled to keep it water resistant. We didn’t have any leaks in the regular plain canvas though

@@ILoveMuzzleloading ok I am about to start collecting all of the gear and period clothing for my first rendezvous next year. Still don’t know whether I want to portray the mountain men era or the French and Indian war.
