I missed the Homestuck fandom on its hay day, but reading this in 2022 leaves me with absolutely no regrets. I’ve always wondered, “if people can make stories like this for other people, and that makes everyone happier in some way, then what’s stopping me from trying that too?” It would be pretty audacious to say that I want to make something of that caliber, but I’m motivated to try to pass the baton so to speak. If I received this much joy from consuming this fiction, then why not pass the baton with something of my own, you know? I hope I get there some day. :D
Always remember that you wont find success on your first run. There will be plenty of hardships that come along the way, but if you can invest enough time into this thing then you will be on your way to victory soon enough. Good luck, fellow Homestuck.
i'm right there with you in both respects. i just started reading it like last month and even though i'm making slow progress it's kinda consuming me and i REALLY wish i was able to experience it at it's peak when it had a community still. My awe for this wacky albeit amazing story hasn't deminished ever since, and many of the truly amazing fanworks and collaborations only add to that. I've laughed and cried tears during both readthroughs. Somewhat I'm glad I didn't get into the comic at the height of its fame when (during my teens), because now I might understand way more of the story's nuances and details I might've glossed over 10 years ago. Working on essays and studying for finals hits different with the soundtrack of the comic that saved and ruined your life playing in the background, like some hellish drone reminding you of how you got here, and how far you've fallen from the person you thought you would be. As you march through life, the playlist marches with you. The constant beat of the drum line punctuates your every step, the greatest hits of your lowest moments on repeat trailing behind you, broadcast for all the world to see and know your cringe. Sometimes I wonder, if the child writing about where they saw themselves in one, five, ten years came face to face with themselves today, what would they say? What praise or condemnation would spill from their mouth? I'm afraid of their judgement, but I desperately want to hear those words, good or bad, just once, just to know I haven't been twisted into a creature beyond recognition, just to know I haven't failed myself. Overall great playlist I'm gonna get all As on my assignments now I just know it
Homestuck is now a part of my life that I don't know how I lived without. Sure I ruined my sleep schedule trying to get to the end of those 8000 pages but it was time well spent I'd say. I got into the fandom almost a year ago, started reading the comic and stopped by the act 6 because I thought it was really boring. It haunts me like a curse till today. I can't even live a day without thinking about Homestuck, its characters or music. I find references f*cking everywhere I look. I tried to forget it but IT KEEPS HAPPENING! I TOLD YOU ABOUT THE STAIRS BRO- so I'm starting it again tomorrow and really, really hope to finish it. Wish me luck, because it's the only way I can stop being so obsessed with this comic.
Act 6 is my least favorite act but it gets better, it just also lingers on some minor bits for too long. If you need help rereading it I highly recommend the Lets Read Homestuck series by Voxus. It’s basically an audiobook, but it’s also incomplete and only goes up to around Act 6 Act 5 last time I checked. Regardless, it got me through a lot of the exposition
ACT 6 spans the entire second half of the comic so by "stopped by act 6" you could've been anywhere from right after the scratch to the very end of the whole thing lol Also did you end up finishing it?
Writing a literature review for my psych class (it's gotta be 10 pages and I've got 7) and I got tired of getting jumpscared by the lyrics in squiddle songs in the playlist that had every homestuck song, so I am very thankful for this video! :]]
Homestuck made such an impact on my life in middle school (if the PFP didn’t show it :P) But to continue to see the fandom still having fun, creating, and even getting into arguments is still a sign that us homestuckies and this wild fandom can’t die. 😂 Fr though it’s been a hell of a ride, and this genuinely helps me study!
