You know what I find ironic about this flash and what went down in it/how it's depicted through song is that Dirk was essentially having a panic attack through the entirety of it. Basically (and keep in mind it's been a few months since I've read this specific scene, so specific event details are missing), Dirk had this whole gameplan of how to get his friends into Sburb that went to shit pretty damn quickly. Because he's a control freak, Dirk panicked, and the AR (Lil Hal) essentially took over and orchestrated all of what happens in the flash, much to Dirk's (later) displeasure. This is the start to Dirk's character arc, which centers mainly on him losing control, despite all his efforts to stop it (his entry in the game, his relationship with Jake, his faliure to protect his friends in Game Over, his control over the AR, etc). That's why this music is so sad in comparison to Prince: Rise Up- because even though Dirk is the one doing all this badass stuff, he's not the one in control, it's his plan that failed, it's his friend's lives resting on his shoulders, and he's /terrified/.
Yeah, the alpha arc was really sad and depressing. Dirk just seems to be the most dysfunctional. Even though he is probably the most competent out of the humans.
You know when Hussie says that Roxie is the "void leader" of the void session, it puts into perspective what Dirk is to the alpha kids. Roxie is the leader that does anything to keep her friends together and always keeps them on the right track, never making them lose sight of their goal. But Dirk is the man of action. Like Bro and Dave: the leader is the person that instinctively knows what the group needs and where they should be going. But Striders? The get shit done. Always. The only question is... Why are they so fucking awesome?
