I remember watching this 6-7 years ago and being sad I couldn’t do cool turbo upgrades and FMICs because all I had was a 03 NA Mazda 323F at the time. Now I’m on the other side. Got a sweet 2016 turbo sports car, FMIC, HKS BOV and just did a big turbo upgrade. You guys inspired me to always keep my dream alive and it’s not just a dream anymore. It’s real, it happened and it’s great!!!

brandon hakki I've got a Hyundai Getz, 1.5 Crdi turbo diesel. It puts out 110bhp stock, I've got it aggressively remapped and got a free flow exhaust as well. It puts out around 160bhp now. Maybe a little more, It was 154bhp after the remap, I haven't checked after removing the cat cons and installing the free flow exhaust. I'm thinking of fixing a slightly bigger turbo, something that will help bump up my figures to 200bhp. I have 205 section tyre's already and am planning to upgrade my suspension soon. I don't have an endless supply of cash and hence would like to know, what Turbo charger would fit as a bolt on with no changes to the manifold etc. Do I have to install new injectors and a blow off valve? Can someone give me an estimate for the turbo supporting mods please?

I love going back to these older videos even back to the red micra videos, to watch how far you guys have come. The videos have always been amazing, but man the video quality sure has come a long way.

I think that was just so they got a rough idea of what needed to be cleared, then made the hole around it bigger just in case. Or they just said "Fuckit" and made it bigger.

hey guys, you should try out PB Blaster in future videos. It's supposed to be better than WD40 and I use it all the time. I never had luck with WD40, bolts would continue to strip off. So, my dad introduced me to PB Blaster and I haven't stripped a bolt since. It's a really good product. I'm not trying to advertise, but I'm pretty sure it could help you guys out with all the rusty cars you guys work on.

Dump pipe is what most call an external wastesgates exhaust if not recirculated.

U guys need to do a video of eBay intakes vs name brand $200-$300 intakes and see if there is any difference in power!!!! Like this comment if want to see them to do one!!!!!
Its already been done...
The only problem with cheap ebay intakes is, under pressure, poor weld snots can break off and enter your engine. (Not Fast n Furious style JR.)
hcracer1985 cold air intakes , usually help with forced induction means like a supercharger , you don't really use them just in their own because you might make like 2hp but they are meant mainly to keep humidity out of your engine because that means less power and are bigger than stock intakes so you can have more air going in

Funny how the TD04 is considered a tiny turbo for nothing more than some punch down low on Subarus.
On a Fiat/Abarth engine the TD04 actually a huge upgrade even from the 180hp setup, allowing for 250+hp.
Candisa well relative to the size of the engine and car, yeh it's all relative.
i highly doubt you will get that power to the wheels on those tiny engines.

Modded hybrid turbo's or repaired turbo's with internals get sold without or with the company which reconstructed them
No they just filed the numbers off for weight saving. Every gram counts.

Now I'm rewatching in prep for a turbo replacement on my 2004 STi

Love to see more video done on the Forester! Some cosmetic stuff and more modds such as fuel pump, leads , plugs, intercooler and injectors. Would love to see what a few more mods would do. Your 180kw now, be sweet if that could help hit the 190-200
So, if I upgrade the turbo, do I have to upgrade the intercooler, i.e., should I be worried about pushing the engine's limits?
It is highly recommended that you do supporting mods when increasing boost but not necessary. It really depends but yes you are pushing your engine more by upgrading turbo
angel olivares how would you do that!? I have a dodge neon srt4 with bov, bigger intercooler, slightly bigger injectors, waste gate actuator, throttle body 62mm, downpipe and diablo sport trinity tune. Stock turbo. If I want to get bigger turbo should I change something else!?
Daniel Rodriguez Thats actually a pretty good setup to handle a bigger turbo and is what I meant by supporting mods. I guess I assumed you were going to upgrade turbo with everything else stock seeing as how factory turbo engines have intercoolers like you mentioned in your original comment. You're should watch the mcm vid of turbo supporting mods, more detail there

I'm not an expert, as I right this my car is at a tuner (I don't have the tools to remove the engine). However, my dad has taught me about cars since I was a kid, worry about Air Fuel ratio. If your running on the "lean" side it means you should have more fuel for the amount of air there is. Running rich isn't nearly as dangerous. Running lean leads to detonation, which leads to one final detonation. Always make sure you have enough fuel for your setup.
Do the turbo supporting mods first!! Your current turbo will benefit from these and you will get bhp gains.

You do know that turbos don't have identifying numbers on them. Yes, they have a code that tells you the model, but there is no way to link it to a particular car or owner. They most likely ground the numbers off because they had reconfigured the housing, thus customizing it and making the identification number meaningless.

How much power do those turbos even produce? We usually build billet 16gs and 20gs for these cars. The tdo6sl2 7 blade 20g seems to be the best for spool time and hp capability.
Spraying WD-40 on the head of a bolt is going to do squat.
+Dennis Leslie Definitely does do something, gets into the threads and loosens things up. Currently doing that with a project car and without it i wouldnt have the progress im at currently.

My turbo pushes more boost than yall can hold in your tires and its made by the greatest turbo company. Garrett. With a custom wicked wheel to a 5in straight pipe. You guessed it. I own a 7.3 powerstroke turbo diesel

doing my first Subaru lmao I have a whole new respect for them now. I have a 2002 forester with a EJ20X motor with VF45 turbo. struggling with the harness now but with a e85 tune on 1000cc injectors the Quad AVCS and twin scroll its gonna be choo chooing like a champ soon. I WANNA A PIECE OF GRAMPS LOL

Installing a turbo is nothing like how easy you guys make it look. I just put in a vf52 in my sh fxt, and the oil dump took me 2h to connect.

Turbo kits are an amazing way to enhance the performance of a car. When installed the right way, a turbo kit dramatically reduces the emissions levels of a car apart from adding to the performance. These kits are highly useful for people living in hilly areas.
Mighty Car Mods. I'd love to see more on your Forester xt !. Or even info on your mods done. Id love to see how much the Turbo, exhaust, performance cleaner and Esy Flash tuner + dyno cost. Broken down each bit, so people like myself can see the cost for similar mods please :) love to see more cosmetics done and even a track tim run vs a stock wrx ect

Yes, front mounts don't make enough of a difference until over the 300hp limit for wrc. Requiring also to compress the air in the entire piping and i/c before boost builds at the motor. much like a compressor taking longer to fill a bigger tank, a larger compressor would go better with a larger tank

Hey guys I have a big issue with big turbo modifiers. You correctly state that other mods are need to take advantage. I'd like to see a myth buster on big turbos, just changing the turbo (not pressure setting) and measure the power difference and any other effects. Engine power is generally made from boost pressure and not turbo size, the engine cares not what size the turbo is only the pressure (and temperature) in the manifold. As power evolves up smaller turbos become less efficienct and general more heat, but heat is generated by compressing air anyway (irrespective of turbo size). A good example is the Volvo red block with its TD04 13C, its perfectly capable of pretty much any level of boost for a standard engine at the top end. An estimate of benefit to go bigger is around 220BHP, but you might need more fueling to get to that, so I'm thinking that there is no benefit in only upgrading the turbo. Some modifiers talk about more flow, but I believe this is a myth. What is hard to quantify is the amount of heat produced due to inefficiency, that might affect the power.
