    The resonator is called a "helmholtz resonator", and it is tuned to a specific frequency that is particularly loud on that intake system, in order to cancel it out. The whole point is to limit droning during cruise conditions.

    The reasonator that you were holding is called a quarter wave resonator. It is designer for a wave to hit the end of it and bounce back exactly half a wavelength later. The original wave is then hit by this wave coming back from the reasonator, reducing the noise. But the reasonator can also be tuned to create an additional stronger pulse into the intake, increasing the torque slightly at a certain rpm. If you want more information on this just Google quarter wave resonator or Helmholtz resonator. These reasonators are also very common in exhaust to remove drone at a specific frequency(rpm).

    Hey guys, I'm a new subscriber. I'm 43 years old from the United States. Originally from New York and now live in the wilderness in pennsylvania. This video brings back a lot of memories for me. When I was about 20 years old my friend used to buy cars at auction from the Department of Transportation and they were always Ford Tauruses. So one day we stripped out a turbo kit from a pontiac gtp and fit it to the Ford Taurus. It took about 2 weeks because we had to have quite a few custom parts and gaskets made to make it fix. After it was finally done my friend got in the car and did a burnout that was about 300 ft long and it blew the motor. It took a lot of time and effort to get that turbo put in but it blew that engine real quick. But we were young and it was fun. My friend use to paint cars in his garage, fix all of our cars(i had a 1988 trans am) and it was a hang out spot and alot of fun. I miss the good old days

      Yeah, I watch a few other car guys, and no one rivals MCM on audio. Moog is legit one of my favorite artists, but it's how rock steady their audio quality is when the boys are speaking that rates them at the top. Gears and Gasoline are another channel I enjoy. Their camera work is pretty good with great environmental shots. Their speech audio has times where it take a noticeable dive, and there's uneveness on the volume, but they're the ones that come closest to mimicking MCM's attention to audio detail.
      There's so many car guys where I just skip through their videos because the audio is either phone audio, camera audio or unprotected from environmental noise that I just get irritated.
      MCM were the first UA-cam channel I watched religiously, and I think they're the best, but it took until Gramps dying and Super Gramps birth for me to realize why I loved the show so much. Nonstatic cameras, an actual camerman typically, phenomenal original music and expert audio mixing/recording.

    I just have to take a moment to mention how absolutely surreal it is to see you both leaning on a *Camry* in the same spot where so many unique nuggets and iconic legends have sat.
    I've never seen something so bluntly normal and yet entirely strange on this channel.

    Choosing the Camry is absolutely brilliant. This is the definition of sleeper. You take the most boring and unassuming car and boost it and win races because most people think "it's just a Camry so I can just give it half throttle". Awesome project!!!

    • @BassRacerx
      @BassRacerx Рік тому

      there is a lot more aftermarket for the honda accord and you would get better results with the honda. also you could also just buy a slightly newer camry with a v6 that makes the exact same amount of power. this is still huge gains from a cheap china kit but the best move is to trade this in and buy something faster not worth the mods!

      @@shaunlangenberg not as fun to drive or not as fun to tinker with? i would argue the v6 camry/ accord would be more fun to drive. It's okay to tinker with cars just to have fun tho more power to you. I was just pointing out that if you were truly on a "budget" you would just buy a different car!

    It is so good to see you guys again! It has been a number of years since I have come across your channel. I used to watch your show back in the early days when you first started. I was busy building a love affair with a Datsun 510 in those days. Anyhow I will lock you in from here on our. Cheers to the down under!

    Ah, I am still excited for this, but I was hoping that it was going to be the 2.5 2AR. Oh well, good to see that maybe the 2.4 2AZ will get some love. I hope one day you guys are able to do something with the 2AR, and potentially collaborate with Frankenstein Motorworks to get 270 NA whp from a 2AR.

    • @tinuthomas531
      @tinuthomas531 Рік тому +1

      The 2AR is probably the best budget Toyota swap rn. I see everyone talking about it, and 270 out of an NA i4? That’s pretty insane considering it’s just an economy engine. The 2AZ is a bit more popular though because it’s been turboed for years, so that’s probably why they chose it. ShaneVlogs had his turbo Camry with a 2AZ pushing close to 500hp.

    • @JimCraig_riced
      @JimCraig_riced Рік тому +1

      Was also hoping it was an 2ar so they could play with Frankenstein's stuff

    • @Borcheltski
      @Borcheltski Рік тому +2

      @@tinuthomas531 Yeah. It is currently be developed in a way that can be done completely on the stock ECU with no need for piggybacking. It uses hybrid (2AR-FXE) intake cams on both sides, along with a swap from Dual to Single VVT, to make 240 whp, from there, a new intake can get it to 270 WHP. It also scales linearly with displacement. Toyota makes a "OEM" stroker kit with the 1AR, making it 2.7 instead of 2.5, that should get you to just about 300 WHP.

    I love this build, mainly why is because a lot of people when they get their first car it’s usually something like this or some turd Saturn or whatever it is. But because it’s our first car we have huge dreams of building it into something crazy. This Toyota kind of reminds me of those days when k had a 90s Honda accord with a single cam and put the cheapest turbo I could on it just for the sounds
