The left hand steers and the right hand is the gas..If you can't steer then you shouldn't press the gas.. Always with the right advice.. thank you, Paul!! 🤘🏿🔥🤘🏿
It's kinda funny how this was supposed to be an interview but it became a total guitar nerd technique tutorial video, the kind that Paul always makes anyway :D I don't mind though, his expertise his really helpful!
Paul, you are an outstanding teacher and inspiration. I share the same passion for music that you do and you never fail to teach me something new. Thank you!
that last bending trick where he bends up on the B and down on the g is and old Jeff Beck /Jimi Hendrix style bend. it's awesome! i've been playing it a lot lately too!
What DiMarzios are in this pgm? Great sound on high gain and after lowering the volume! I'm considering pair of PAF Pros or Tonzone + PAF Pro. Into basswood body.
Any ideas for stretching the left hand fingers? I have huge hands and it used to be absolutely no trouble to play with three fingers anywhere on the neck. Now I haven't really played for a few years and I have trouble playing with three fingers even around the octave area. I tried to get back in form but my fingers seem to be stiff and it doesn't seem to get better.
I had the same problem as you - managed to play probably only 10-15 minutes once in 3 months throughout the years because of shift work and living in a 1-bedroom apartment with my wife and kids. Just about 4-5 years ago after changing jobs, I resolved to play at least 10-30 minutes a day. After about 2-3 months, my fingers started to regain their dexterity.
The last arpeggio shape reminded me of one I learned watching a frank gambales vhs tape. Loads of sweeping. When I play them i feel like some misunderstood pretentious man.
I have learned much from Paul -- though I confess there are some of his long stretch finger skipping licks I simply cant do --- I was not blessed with those long guitar fingers --- my hands are more like bear claws -- short fingers, but able to tear decks of cards in half. Even at slow tempo -- I simply can't REACH some of those wide intervals One example is the string skipped diminished arpeggios lower on the neck as he does ----- Nope, can't reach it HA
just to add my two cents here, try changing the intervals to the lower strings and carry the notes over to a narrower part of the bridge. I've had this same problem since I was 11, I'm 32 now and my hands are like little baby hands that got all fucked up by playing guitar incorrectly, and when a teacher told me that, my playing and my technique became much better in a couple of months.
Some people just neglect using the pinky from the get go when they first start playing and never utilize it. I don’t have particularly long fingers but I can get a good stretch from my index to pinky fingers. Utilization is the key.
sounds like a tire squeaking, band lives up to its name LOL. If it takes him 8 years to develope that technique you kiddies best start now when your 12-16, not at my age.
He's an honest intelligent guitarist. He illustrates his techniques with so much knowledge it's super easy to follow
Amazing teacher, player, and performer!!! I am in awe of him. Such a down to earth nice guy too!
I can listen to Paul Gilbert talking about music for months...

Gilbert never gets old .
Damn this guy has long fingers, remembers everything his been taught and knows music theory. Not to mention great technique. Wow amazing.
I am obsessed with Paul! He's extremely fast.
This is why he's one of my fave guitar players
One of the best Paul Gilbert videos!
Paul, you are an outstanding teacher and inspiration. I share the same passion for music that you do and you never fail to teach me something new. Thank you!
He's so good that make it all looks easy. Absolutely one of the greatest.
You're Incredible, Paul!!!!
I cant believe he tried playing with only upstrokes, that's hilarious hahaha
Crazy how that developed the basis for his fast picking. Everything happens for a reason
And note that's how he still plays at 1:35 !
Thank you for the vid!
Love the 25 or 6 to 4 intro right at the start, would love to see Pauls version of the Tanglewood 70 solo to that song.
that last bending trick where he bends up on the B and down on the g is and old Jeff Beck /Jimi Hendrix style bend. it's awesome! i've been playing it a lot lately too!
Really touched, please upload more
Nicest and most talented rock God I’ve ever met!
Amazing. Every time i hear an interview from him, it's amazing. I don't like every single song from him, but i know he's an amazing guitar player.
Wow, very nice tips Mr. Gilbert! I picked up a couple of useful ones
Paul seems like such a cool guy
Beautiful man Paul Gilbert 🔥💃💖
Bucket sure had the best teacher!!! One of those riffs........... Do you know where I'm coming from??? Sounded familiar to me!!
Paul Gilbert rocks!
the longest fucking pinky.
His fingers are twice as long as mine !!!
Really interesting questions

one of the best teacher

You will be good to go with any of thr classic DiMarzio pickup configuration. The air norton+tone zone is a classic
god that dimarzio tone...shrilling.

C7M Dm7 Em7 F7M G7 Am7 Bm7(b5) C7M
i think this guitar was way prettier than the newest one
4:19 ❤
That guy is not of this earth. I think he's one damm fine teacher, never got into Racer X or Mr Big but I sure do like learning from him.
His pinky has its own zip code

If you change the video speed to 0.5, Paul sounds like he's super stoned.
And if you change the speed back to 1 again after some time, he sounds like he's on speed.
3:35 😮
paul gilbert fixing the tremolo hole
his biggest song was an acoustic number 😆
His pinky is freakishly long
0:13: '25 or 6 to 4'
what guitar is that???
ibanez pgm
Im droping my pick on the floor and im not feeling any improvement!
I wish I was as "compositionally advanced" as .... [___fill in blank___]

Put it on 2x the speed and go from 15:27-16:20.. lol
Of course, it helps to have the physical gifts of PG--those long-ass fingers.
5:50
Ye sure its nice with those stretches if you have alien fingers for me its a pain :P
no pain no gain
Alien fingers jajj.. play according your hand size and shape
Well 25 min an interview , 3 years of work for me, this thing is even better and teach full than his REH Hot LIcks
You have to listen to the notes he's NOT playing...
Such an underrated concept!
He's good because of the notes he doesn't play.
Does this man have an outrageously long pinky finger?
Yep!
12 people can only up stroke

Ugh his tone is so fizzy >
Amazing video as usual, but that tone was awful, too saturated.
