Just amazing. Paul has the rare combo of great musical taste combined wilt inhuman abilities on the guitar. I'm not into the whole shred thing at all, I'm into jazz and blues, but he really takes it to another level, like Holdsworth, Gambale or Mclaughlin.
A bunch of friends and I were discussing guitarist of his caliber, and one guy mentioned something that is so true. Paul is so explosive. I can’t really think of anyone else that is faster, but he explodes into his fast licks much faster than most.
Thanks so much for uploading. Once of my favorites and to watch Paul tear it up on this tune is amazing. The slip at 4:21 is the only time I've ever seen him miss but it helps me believe he might actually be human. Amazing composition and sick playing. Thank Remy and thanks PG!
@1.50 He makes the point about the tape so that he can position the guitar to achieve the stretches. This validates what I teach to my students about practicing the guitar in the same position as you would play live. You may practice on a phrase sitting with the guitar for hours only to find when you stand up you cant play the same phrase.
yeah i used to play like you said., but i still prefer how paul plays because it enables me to angle my pick like paul, to get that crisp sound like him when alt. picking , remy does it too, and i can play same thing standing up with even low strap but i can't stretch my hands on 5 and 6th string on fret 17 and above so yeah you should teach your way, so people can develop that and avoid situation like me on high fret,
Exactly. Paul must not have had too much say in it, cause he seems to really appreciate his fans, and I'm sure he'd be on board for a regular production model for the fans, even if it had to sacrifice some minor things. And I hadn't really realized that they discontinued the 301 until just now, haha. Guess I'd better get over to Ebay soon!
Can someone explain what he tuned the strings to when he said he tuned them into octaves? Is it just the same open string notes as the others but lower octave?
+dabos6 where did you read that i said paul was bucket's student? bucket taken lessons gilbert i am sure everybody already knows that, yet bucketdude got his whole carreer upon this style of music and paul has so many different styled albums.
I don't understand why they had to go the limited edition production route with it because it seems like a lot of people are interested in buying it but they're not going to sell many@$10K a pop. This of course is on top of the fact that they've discontinued the PGM301 which listed for ~$1200 for the PGM401 which lists for $2000. Instead of trying to cash in on Paul's recent surge in popularity I think Ibanez could've tried to give something back to the many faithful PGM users out there.
Actually, I'm going for the Fireman which is outragiously overpriced! But hey, I'm a fan and like the Damn thing! Now let's hope they'll distribute the guitar over here............ Otherwise I'll get the 401 and whatever other Re-issue they'll bring out. Since I already have the PGM 100! Anyways, I'm saving all my money now!!:-)

Not sure if your question is still relevant, but those 4 strings are all tuned down 1 whole step (so instead of DGBE, it's now CFAD). It comes from the standard D tuning, which is essentially just that -a regular tuning but with all strings tuned down 1 whole step (to DGCFAD). For example, Metallica uses this tuning on Sad But True. It's also the basis of the dropped C tuning, where the low D is tuned another whole step down into a C; dropped C is potentially the most "mainstream" tuning in 2000's era metal music.
one of the reasons for the increase in price is because of better wood selection and finishing. the trifade is a rare finish and it is coming with an ash wood body which makes it morre durable thanbasswood... still would rather pay 2000 for tha tthan an absolutley rediculoused priced gibson. ive been to a gibson factory. they were making high end epiphones in the same place and charging well over double the amount for a gibson.
That's a pretty peculiar tuning he has there. It appears his lowest string is a D, which would mean he's a minor third up from regular 7-string tuning.
80's 90's 00's 10's... this guy is awesome in every era...
20's
I've said it for many yrs, Paul is the 'King of Shred'
I don't think you can take credit for that realisation
i know no other guitarist that can string-skip arpeggios as well as paul. i know he has godly long fingers, but still...this man is simply amazing.
lol, check Guthrie Govan
What about Shawn Lane that guy isn't even human
Guthrie is not better.
The two guitar aster that have impress me more lately are Paul and Tom Quayle
Pauls's hands are alien hands.
@@calvaire6744 yes if he has fingers as long as paul's
He's the best showman, teacher and guitarist, and it's all in one person!
The greatest and the ultimate shredder, it doesn't get better than Gilbert... Absolutely genius composition...
This video makes me want to go out and buy a 7-string Ibanez, screw up the tuning, and then realize I can't play this song for sh**
Totally worth it!
Just amazing. Paul has the rare combo of great musical taste combined wilt inhuman abilities on the guitar. I'm not into the whole shred thing at all, I'm into jazz and blues, but he really takes it to another level, like Holdsworth, Gambale or Mclaughlin.
He has a very vast reference, not only from the rock and metal world, even to ABBA and Spice Girls. No wonder he has such a good pop sensibilities

Nailed it !
The licks in his song Bliss do a great job of showing this. huge runs out of nowhere.
@@alexwbakker very well said sir!
Paul has the most gifted pinky in the history of guitar.
Whenever I start thinking I'm good, I just watch a Paul Gilbert video
Crazy pinkie fret work as always!
One of the best things I've heard him play. Cool axeman.

Paul is one of the the few amazing freaks of nature!
Very Well Done, Mr. Paul Gilbert
Note for note perfect with a smile...ridiculously good
Love how he's engaging with the (probably introverted/shy) audience to get them going.
I love Paul Freakin Gilbert...such a cool dude....and what a guitar player....

You could probably get it custom made by a Luther to the exact same specs for cheaper. Ran guitars maybe?
