Since I've been seeing a lot of comments about it - Guys, the bad gameplay is on purpose. It's highlighting parts of the game I failed completely at. I didn't suck at the entire game. CAS is all about playing up the failure for laughs. I don't hate Dying Light. So share in the laughter, I don't need to hear 'man, you suck at this' for the 1,000th time. Thanks.

For once skipping the side quests was actually a mistake. There are several side characters introduced that are LEAGUES better than anyone in the main plot.

For the record radios that transmit through jamming are pretty common (especially for the organizationdoing the jamming), we used jammers to defeat certain kinds of IEDs I'm Afghanistan but our comms were largely unaffected by it.

@@twelsh4094 there are many different types of jammers but they all work on the principle of “my noise is louder then yours so you cant hear yourself anymore”
Also the GRE allowed messages into the city but not out. Unless u had a certain locked frequency and transmitter I'm guessing.
Those jammers were lifesavers, but I still had a ton of lonely walks down the street with my MWD while everyone silently stared at us behind the vehicles. Oh man, good times. I was always more scared of those stupid fucking snipers than any IED’s.

I'm honestly surprised you made it through the rest of the game without the grappling hook or the inevitable stash of items you'd normally build up. Heck, the un-upgraded parkour alone must've been a nightmare.
We talk about it in the Real Thoughts, but the basic idea is because the game doesn't give you the items as part of the progression of the game, the game is designed to be completed without them. So it really wasn't that bad outside of a few crappy interior bits, just kind of lame.
I mean you had a pretty underleveled kick there’s a reason that viral wasn’t taken off the roof of that building
@@Williaso I dunno man, just because the skills are in a character sheet rather than spoon fed to your doesn't mean the game is designed to be completed without them... I think thats the devs expecting their audience to realize they need to build their skills to progress the main game
@@xproflipscarab "Spoon fed" is such a negative word for it. I prefer "curated". If the game were curated towards giving the player abilities as the game's story progressed, they could've made the level design a lot more interesting because they could've designed new challenges with all of your skills in mind. As it is, the game is designed so that anyone can get through so the challenges just get easier the more abilities you have, which is not interesting.

Alright, so he actually IS wearing protective clothing, but it's mentioned in a random encounter that one of the people who tried to help quarantine the infected out would actually bite THROUGH kevlar and many protective layers of clothing, hinting that their teeth are sharpened.
Your body seriously limits muscle strength so it stands to reason that the infected could use all of the muscle mass to bite which would do the trick
They could have just used metal armor. You can't bite through it, I don't care what kind of super strength the zombies have, teeth shatter against steel. Mail's tough as hell against piercing and slashing, to the point where slashing is completely ineffective and piercing damage is a close contender. You can thrust a blade as hard as you want against chainmail with your whole body weight behind it, you will not be able to breach the rings. There's a reason its the go-to for protection against sharks, saws, blades, etc. (There is also usually padding under it so that even if the very tip of the blade fits through the rings, it doesn't get you)
Getting bitten in a chain suit would probably hurt, but it wouldn't pierce the skin.

Chris Redfield jumps off a plane into a city full of psychopats and yet another mysterious zombie virus only to forget his plot armor, *almost* lose an arm and get infected in the first 5 minutes of the game.
(Just in case, Roger Craig Smith voices the mc, as well as Redfield in Resident Evil, Sonic, and a large etc.)

Your mistake wqs trying to fly through the story. Your power and agility levels were too low when you reached old Town. Still funny but you should've taken your time and found more blueprints for better weapons. If you scavenge and increase your skills properly it's REALLY fun

They take Crane from being a badass to a whiny little b!tch and most of the story quests don't even let you use parkour to its full extent lol like what??? Then the whole *open a door, seizure enusues" mechanic is super dumb. You can be out of story missions forever and never get a seizure but as soon as you go to this scripted event here it is. Its like that was the only way they felt they could make the story more difficult..."you are too exhausted to use your grappling hook" and "you are the legend of harran. You don't get tired from movement" don't really go together. If they could've gotten away with taking the story out and making this a true survival experience it would be close to perfect
It does kinda suck because it can take a long time to level up your skills but once you do it is amazingly satisfiying and fun as hell

@@Williaso fair enough lmao. Mirage is a very derpy character compared to his larger roster of relatively serious characters, Chris Redfield, Batman, Ezio Auditore, just to name a few. Either way, love him in anything
Everyone says the story was bad but I really enjoyed it, but when I look back on it it was kind of lack luster
@@tristanhauser5766 the story its self, isn't bad, its simply just, the voice acting. Most of the characters have shitty voice acting. While rias is essentially trying to be a different guy, his voice is still solid. Besides him and crane everyone else sounds so weird. Dying light the following definitely has better voice acting for some reason lol.
I actually liked the story. It was more than serviceable and not bad for what we were getting up to 2015. Had a lot of ‘we’ve seen this all before’ plot moments, but it was compelling enough that I was still engaged until the end. Graphics and gameplay still hold up well to this day, and it’s one of the few games still getting updates, events, bug fixes, and even full expansions, in Hellraid several months back, this late in life. Definitely makes Dying Light 2 look all the more promising. And I agree. Voice acting and mocap was solid, especially for the time where we got a lot of games with stiff animations and phoned in dialogue. I’m currently replaying Horizon Zero Dawn which came out a couple years after DL, and despite people holding Horizon to a higher regard overall, the cutscenes between these two games are night and day with Horizon feeling stiff and the voice acting phoned in.

What do you mean? Valve loves 3rd games like Half-Life 3, Portal 3, Team Fortress 3 and L4D3. It's not like there isn't a single trilogy in the Valve franchises...
Commentary is great, and has a lot of fair gripes about the game. However, almost every time you complain about the game's shortcomings or mechanics, it's mostly because you're just not good at the game or because you can't read the room. The large zombie in the "battle royale" is supposed to be killed with the gas canisters by throwing the pipes you find at the containers. The end tunnel sequence is full of stuff that you're suppossed to just know how to do from the experience you got from playing the rest of the game. You're obviously supposed to grab the ladder, and you weren't able to because you didn't silence the child, which you would've known to do if you didn't brute force your way through the game. You're obviously supposed to parkour over the zombies on the raised platform, not take them all on while you have the special infected right behind you. When you complain about shit like that, it's just annoying because it feels like you're that kid in elementary school who refused to listen to instructions, and they had a tantrum when they had to face the consequences.
TL;DR, you shouldn't try to shit on a game just because you refuse to do what the game tells you to. Funny Commentary though, like the Crane clones.

I played though DL1 3 times and never ever have i defeated the brute in the Arena with the pipes and explosives 😅 i just bait him to ram into stuff and slice him when he's stunned...
I've played through the game way too many times at this point, and usually I end up getting legend before The Pit, which is a somewhat conscious decision as there's nothing funnier than killing the Demolisher with your fists
And y'all could have used the camouflage feature AND your zip line pretty early in the game which would have let you advance more successfully as well as upping your skill set during your playthrough, one such skill you can develop early is a cammo skill, and a vault over skill where you can vault over a zombie or a volatile if you time it right, but this playthrough may have been just for the video, funny though :)

You had a lot of trouble with just glitchy mechanics throughout the entire storyline that I didn't see any of at all I tend to be extremely lucky in video games though for some reason I rarely ever experience any sort of glitches or bugs or anything of any sort in any of the games I play. It's lovely and I will continue to enjoy it

Just saying anyone playing this game again looting ambulances is a really good way to get medkits because they are really easy to lockpick and can have atleast 2 medkits in them
There wouldn't be a point in wearing protective clothes, as the encounter with a ex-hazmat dude says the zombies could bite right through his clothing's material. Which was something probably strong enough to withstand burning and acid for some time. And there's no knowing how ready crane was for this. We don't know if he even had training.

on my first playthrough i was so scared of getting chased by volatiles in the sewers i literally maxed my agility
I actually love how people are playing this now, I got it when it first came out cause I love zombie games and it blew my expectations out of the park and I've been playing it to this day, I have 100% everything and have every item including glitched and hacked items cause I just love the game, it's the first game to 100% everything and I'm definitely looking forward to number 2 since I preordered it nearly two years ago, but tbh I'm just hoping they don't ruin the best parts of gameplay just for more story, I am a story person but dying light requires the beautiful gameplay and looks over story since it's replayability is the gameplay

The purpose of the arena scene is to force you to use the agility and power skills you acquired throughout the game, as well as use your environment to your advantage. Sorta like a show of Cranes skills developing and refining throughout the story. I personally loved the sequence, but once i got to a certain point i stopped using melee weapons for the most part anyway.
but your criticisms are valid, and this is an enjoyable video loved it
The problem is that the game doesn't curate your abilities, so you're allowed to continue the story at what's considered "underleveled" so the game starts to become frustrating. I don't like that. I much prefer when the game gives the player the upgrades as part of story progression so that the experience is more curated to make sure you're always getting the best experience. As it is, Dying Light is built with the fact that characters won't always have every ability in mind, so the later levels end up just becoming mostly frustrating, but still completable, instead of ramping up the skill because they need to make sure that anyone can make it through if they don't happen to have certain skills unlocked.

I tried keeping up my suspension of disbelief for the first few missions. Once I got to The Pit and watched shit go completely and fully off the rails I fell in love with it, right around the point when Rais a' Roni commanded his two goons to kill Crane only to both get fucking merked on in the most bad ass way that I any care I might've had at how unbelievable it was evaporated on the spot. The game wasn't about telling a gripping story grounded in reality as our humanity is put to the test, it was about sprint-jumping across buildings with impossible melee weapons from hell as the world's most terrible, lethal force of nature.

I loved Dead Island as a teen and also really enjoyed Mirror's Edge, I don't care if the story's really that bad, the gameplay and Dead Island nostalgia makes this an absolute win for me

What I found weird is that the stealth takedown is at the very end of the strength (I think) skill tree, and a lot of missions would be a lot easier with the stealth takedown, the closest I could get to stealth in this game is drop kicking people off a roof without being noticed
Dying light doesn't even have proper stealth. Thankfully they added proper stealth to DL2

The thing about having no protective armor for bites you can find this NPC who tells you a story on how he was one of the first military squads to get deployed in the city he then says that they thought they were safe because of their armor so it actually caused all of their deaths because the zombies could bite right through it makes no sense but hey at least they gave some sort of a explanation
At the start, he said that “the following is a completely accurate summary of the campaign” which is not true, the following is a dlc campaign which has a story that begins after the end of the main campaign. Do not be fooled by these people telling unbelievable lies like this

The grapple hook makes the games stupidly easy
How could you forget the name of KYLE CRANE, One of the most ICONIC zombie protagonist, One of THE MOST BAD ASS parkour characters ever, and has one of the most in-depth perso-yeah he’s kind of boring as fuck.
Also there’s no material to resist a zombie bite, they bite straight through Kevlar and all other things…don’t no why I typed this.
Still find this game fun as all hell though

They thought that being cut proof would stop zombie bites but it didn’t.
Zombie teeth would dig or grip into the Kevlar and rip it off. That or there teeth would dig into to the fibers and move the fibers and weaken it allowing them to rip it off.
They don’t explain it throughly but that’s what happens
It’s similar to hell Kevlar vest can stop a bullet but a crossbow bolt will cut straight through it

Fun fact about the "kevlar" in the beginning, theres a interaction with a survivor who commented on how biters would easily chew through the hazmat suit's many layers of tough kevlar, it wouldnt have done much, not like the gre would know or do anything about.

You skipping all the sidequests is what really made your experience kinda stink.
You weren't leveled anywhere near enough for most of these encounters, especially only being level 6 at the pit.

We talk about that in the Real Thoughts. But I propose a counterpoint - Why should I be expected to do some grinding to "be the proper level" rather than the game curating the experience so that I'm always getting the best experience?
@@Williaso Because the grinding in this game is easy to do, the easiest one to level up is survival level thanks to repeatable quests you could do right at the beginning of the story, then as second is combat (molotovs are the best ones to kill crowds of people) and then parkour where you can easily level up during night by running around and just not get caught which is easy

@@Williaso The thing is it is, after every mission, you get rewarded with the survivor rank experience, plus side missions are made for leveling up too, and for the combat and parkour, those are things you can level up during the story too yeah, since you have to fight humans and zombies during the missions, but this game is not only about the story, you're supposed to be savaging for resources and upgrade yourself

This game is funny as a completionist, you spend weeks running around after getting bitten with no antidote, then do two story missions and start to have a ton of zombie seizures
I absolutely love this game, of course the history isn't the best, but the lack of good gameplay in here is fully your fault, you completely ignored the side quests and the skill tree, so yeah ofc you'll have a hard time getting thru it
Before watching this video all I remembered about the campaign was the bad guy screaming “CRAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNEEEEEEE”

@@_tking well they just tried to get through only doing the story but the game is made for you to have also done side quests, by the time they got to old town they were to low level and that's why they died so much
