Changed the lot of these clips when I replaced my original mouldings for the HST kit and used this exact method. It's by far the best way to do this ! Another great video Simon.
I bought a Freelander 2 with a badly fitted front right door lower panel. When I took it off, I found that several of the lugs on the panel where the clips locate, were broken. The panels are made of PP-TF12-TPV (it's stamped on them) which is a polypropylene base compound. I don't have access to a plastic welder so I sought a suitable glue. I can vouch that 'Loctite Super Glue All Plastics' is effective whereas most other plastic glues are not. I had a spare side protector strip which is the same material, so I cut and stuck small pieces as fillet reinforcement. Was a solid repair. Clips are part number DYC101420 and probably DYC500030. I bought some from LR and they are black. Ones advertised on eBay seem to be mostly white/yellow. Removing the clips from the door requires a little care. Look at the lug that fits in the door and note that it has 4 legs which fold-in as it is inserted and then spring out to prevent removal. To remove, use a thin bladed screwdriver under the lip to push-in one of the legs unlocking one side and then prise out a bit. Repeat for another leg at 90 degrees to the first. etc. Also, I found that for small scratches on this material, careful use of a hot-air gun will significantly improve the appearance.
Thanks for the video it's saved me loads of time working it out. Just one comment, the round plastic fittings on the top are easily removed by removing the centre screw with a small flat blade screwdriver pushed between the main plug and the pozi screw, once the screw is out the base comes out easily.
Good video, im just about to undertake removal of the panels due to rust on rear arches. 👍🏻 May have missed it in another vid, but what tyres are you running on the FL2?
@@gbonesteak They are remoulds from ebay ! they have been OK - there was a bit of peeling right next to the wheel rim but I trimmed this and I have no problem - but I do not use the car everyday so not recommending remoulds !
We tried with pliers and a trim tool - those inner "arrow heads" are not going to budge ! Yes we have used WD40 but it seems to dry our pretty quickly - we find it good in the engine bay !
Its an odd idea - came from Ian that used to work for me...seems to give the plastic back some lustre....but may well be a dust dirt magnet as you say. Google it - its a thing ! All depends if you like that old school window putty smell !
If it's a radio mic. you have to be careful to avoid interference between mics - make sure that it's possible to use two on the same system and that they don't interfere with each other.

Hi Ian - thanks for the validation... had a couple of people confirm this is the best / only way to do this - even though it seems a little heathen !

Could you have pulled off the clips with pliers?
A wipe of WD40 brings up a shine on that black plastic trim.

'Linseed Oil'? Where did that idea come from? Doesn't it leave the surface tacky and a bit of a dust magnet?

@@L663 So does peanut butter apparently, but neither is getting anywhere near my car! ;-)
