that should have been the ending, and the ending i was expecting. big fight, the 20 minutes happen, but......the war doesnt end. it just goes on. the soldiers doesnt hug, there isnt a cute peace scene at the end, the war just...goes on. like, the soldiers start to fight some more after her fight and they just stab each other, chris pine dies, the war goes on for another 2 years or so. which casues diana to lose her faith in mankind, and hide for 100 years untill bvs

Tony stopping a nuclear missile from destroying all of Manhattan counts as a superheroic act to me, Cap even told him that's a one way trip, did he think twice about taking that missile through the portal? No, That looked like something a superhero would do to me
I actually agree with that. when he said that about the other movies, the first thing I thought of was that scene. When I first saw the Avengers, I thought that was a really powerful moment that made me emotional. It also was just a really great moment for Tony Stark in general because he's a lot more "human" than some of the other heroes. He's not some boy scout like Cap. don't misunderstand me; being a boy scout is something I actually like and respect about Cap, but even though Tony is sarcastic and generally not a really "nice" person compared to someone like Cap, he pretty much never hesitates in situations like that, and it shows a bit of the duality of heroes because you don't have to be a super nice person, or even very likable, to have that raw, unflinching bravery to do good just because you want to do good and help people.
Also, the scene we're talking about is good also because while he doesn't hesitate, he didn't have to be the one to do it, and you could see the resolve AND fear of death in his expression.

Because I was young and stupid (and didn’t know about studio and actor contracts) I actually thought that Tony would die in the portal after sacrificing.
Another character who does really well at that is Hawkeye in Age of Ultron. The whole scene with Wanda was so genuine and great, and then offering to sacrifice himself saving kids.
Rowley Osoti when he showed AOU I immediately thought of that scene thinking he’d show it as an example of heroes being heroes and not just superheroes.
This movie should have ended without a final boss. What should have happened is this: she kills the German general guy, but the war continues. He wasn't ares, just another man. She helps the entente win the war, and then she devotes herself to helping save lives and keeping the peace. Moral of the story? In war, there is no 'big bad' you can defeat to save the day. It's just people fighting other people.

Seriously, though, when Ares was revealed, they really should've changed what he looked like. In the comics, the helmet hides his face in shadow, except for his glowing eyes. They could've done something like that. Cause lupin sorta sounds like ares, but he just doesn't look like him.

Every time Diana said “no it’s ares I must stop him” and Chris pine looked like he didn’t want to call her crazy because that’s just the nature of man really made me think that in the end she finally realizes that ares doesn’t cause war and goes through this transformation where she helps people to stop them from becoming bad. I really thought throughout the movie that ares wasn’t real and when they revealed him it lessened the impact so much. Also gal gadot legit is Wonder Woman. She put her soul into it and it shows. Great move
I agree. The moral message of the film looked like it was going to be that there is no Ares, that it's all human nature and that would've been much more powerful and truly wrap up the movie perfectly.

@@iambuhlockay8007 In a way they're the opposite. Wonder Woman is a god discovering that humanity is not all good and her perceptions of evil are too simple. First Avenger is a weak man becoming a hero and discovering that humanity is not the worst evil in the world, it is instead an artifact from the gods that has empowered a small section of humanity to do greater evil. Cap starts the film thinking that the best thing he can do is fight Nazis because they're pure evil and ends it by stopping the true evil.

I totally like your version of the last 20 minutes. Ares disappearing and stuff, would be a great ending. Then Diana would have to grapple with morality rather than strong muscly guys. Which is much more trickier.
Exactly, show that these characters think and can do more than just fight. DC films don't focus enough on character development they spend too much time on over the top fight scenes and CGI.

Or what if Ares was a person but just not one distinct bad guy. What if "Ares" is the person on the planet who embodies the spirit of war or the essence of conflict best at the moment. That way Ares is never truly defeated and the spirit of war constantly lives on, propogated by flawed human nature. Rather than literally betraying the, up till then, theme of the movie and claiming there really is some one true god of war that causes it.
I loved this movie, but there was one glaring problem I can't ignore. If Ares was influencing the men of WW1 and when he was killed, everyone was all happy and hugging, but then you wonder about WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, or literally any other war since then? Was Ares still around or was it his influence still corrupting men to fight and kill? Also, where was Wonder Woman during all of those conflicts? A simple solution would have been to have Ares during the end of their battle before WW strikes a final blow, Ares says something along the lines of, "Even if you kill me, my influence will live on. Men will fight wars and die long after I am gone. You have done nothing but prolong the inevitable." or something like that to explain all later wars and leave a dramatic effect on WW. I'm no writer but I think this could have made a major difference and give Wonder Womans victory a bittersweet end. You defeat the villain, but at a cost because he still gets the last laugh despite the hero's efforts.

I hate that the end goes back on the powerful moment of Steve telling her that morality is mostly grey. It just ruins the whole message and emotional impact of Steve’s sacrifice and what he was trying to tell Diana.
I remember the trench scene more than any other scene. The ending was completely forgettable (haven't seen WW since it came out, but I haven't really seen any superhero movie twice).
Nailed the analysis of the trench scene though because the hero aspect really is lacking in superhero movies.

Age of Ultron is a bad example to use for superheroes not going out of their way to save people because half the time in their final battle is spent getting civilians out. A prime example of this is when Hawkeye goes back to save a single kid, faces death in the eyes as bullets are racing his way, and turns to shield the kid when Quicksilver then saves him even though they weren't even very friendly. Marvel may have their large action pieces but they are fairly good at displaying the lives of the people they are saving, even as far back as Iron Man.
Sir Atheist i think by heroic he means a hero that inspires. not just saving helpless people who cant do anything without the heroes. just makes everyone they save seem weak. like how he explained in the amazing Spider-Man. i never actually thought of it until now but i think he has a good point

I was actually thinking the exact same thing as soon as I got out of the theater. I liked the anti-climax after Diana kills general Ludendorff and Steve tells her "yeah okay so maybe humanity isn't being corrupted, maybe we're are just shit but we're also kinda good so we're worth saving". I thought that having Diana realize that and then make the choice to continue fighting for humanity would've been wayyy more interesting and in line with the rest of the story. Oh well, it was still amazing
My only problem is Ares. His presence makes Trevor's speech meaningless. And why does Ares looks like a tweedy twerp with a stupid mustache? He should look the way he does in Greek artwork. Big, strong, wicked facial hair, and glowing eyeballs

I 100% agree, I would've preferred if they had gone with a more traditional theme which would show more of her Themysciran side, as that's where half the movie takes place anyway, and it makes it clear that she's not from this world. Its catchy I'll give you that, but I don't think that glaring techno music fits well in this World War 1 movie about an Amazon princess...

i agree 100%, the last fight is ridiculous and unnecessary. it ruined her progress as a character. all for the sake of a plot twist. if they eliminated the final fight, i think it would have been the perfect ending because she would have realized that humanity doesn't need an evil god to make war happen - and it would keep the general tone of the movie, no balck and white, but grey.
There could even have been a twist to Lupin being the “real” villain in the sense that war, especially in modern times, is driven by politicians and bureaucrats behind the scenes, not the guys actually shooting the guns and bombs.
But having him be Ares and get in a lightning fight with Diana was stupid.

The whole point of the entire movie is fixing their own mistake. They're only saving those people because they created the hazard in the first place. They wouldn't have to save those people if they weren't such dumbasses. In WW she actually wants to save children and end the wars even if she isn't involved. That's the whole point of her going to the main world, to save the earth. The Avengers brought the infinity gems to earth, therefore it gets fucked up. They made the all knowing rebellious AI, so they get fucked up. Literally almost all of the Marvel plot lines were caused by their own demise and they have to save people because they caused all of the destruction in the first place. I ain't no hardcore DC fan, but this is just common sense

While you are definitely correct that a lot of lives are saved, the point is that "superheroes save lives" It's what they do, you have to have them rescue people in a superhero movie. It's what makes them SUPERheroes. But they need to save people on a much more minor scale, saving people in everyday situations and making morally upstanding choices not because they caused a problem, not because they are collateral damage being avoided, but because going out and helping people however you can no matter the cost is the HERO part of being a superHERO. That's why he focuses so much on Spiderman's interaction with one single child, and how Spiderman operates as a symbol instead of just a hero. Spidey connects with this kid and treats him as a frightened, needy PERSON, not just an OBJECT that one saves as part of a superhero gig. while Quicksilver's death is honestly one of the best examples of base heroics you could giv e in the MCU, there should be a lot more everyday examples that don't end in death and aren't part of a bigger world-ending catastrophe like Sokovia or the Battle of New York. That's what he means by leaning more on the HERO and less on the SUPER. It's not about how flashy you can make saving people or how big a threat you stop, its the small actions and the reasons behind them. That's why Quicksilver saving only a small number of people is more weighty than the Avengers saving all the rest of the Sokovians - it is the ultimate heroic sacrifice. We just need less deadly examples to pop up a little more often.

Spot on. I too laughed out loud when the movie flashed back to Aeries being cast out and he still had his dumb mustache.
I agree that the villains are the weakest part of the movie, but I'd like to think that Diana's big fight with Ares showed us two things,
1) the full extent of her powers when she's not holding back, and fighting a foe equal or more powerful than her.
2) that despite the fact Diana is a demigod created to fight other gods, she still fights for the humans. Even though her goal in the beginning was to kill Ares, she always attempts to help everyone she sees along her way, and I really liked that.
^^and its world war ONE where the germans weren't even an objective evil.

While the villains weren't the best, it's much better to do the villains less justice than the heroes instead of the other way round, cause if you have a bad villain, there's a bad villain, but if you have a bad hero, the whole movie is fucked because you're seeing it through the lens of that hero

as a 29 yr old woman, i can't say i knew wtf was even really happening in any superhero shit i ever watched as a kid. but i knew i liked wonder woman. i didn't know anything except she was a badass. SO the 4yr old in me perked up when this movie came out, and i went into it with that level of expectations.
the climbing out of the trenches scene made putting on pants and going to an actual movie theater worth it :D it definitely exceeded any expectations, and it was a movie that for me just needed to have one or two good parts. i also liked most of it but i apparently spaced tf out at the end because i was like, lupin? i feel like i blinked and she was pinging shit off her bracers, i should watch it again but the ares fight isn't terrible if you aren't paying attention to the lead up. maybe that was my bathroom break lol
It seems here that your only issue with this film falls into the 'sub-par third act problem' that plagues quite a few action films, but especially the Phase One Marvel movies.
While (most of) the Marvel movies are great, Phase One third acts were generally poor; they took all the character building and plot establishment and just dropped it in favour of a big action scene.
I f**king love this movie, but it did fall for the 'third act problem'. Personally, my biggest gripe with this movie is that you get the feeling it desperately wanted to be in World War 2. It almost dismissed the fact that it was World War 1, showing the German's to be so horrible and the Allies being the infallible heroes.
I wish the film went for a more nuanced approach that World War 1 sort of embodied: while both sides were being dicks, the real bad guys, regardless of sides, tended to be the people giving orders, and not the soldiers.
I think that was the point of having Aries be a British dude. We thought the Germans were evil because the movie was playing on our perception the word wars = Germans bad. The movie had several scenes that showed that even the heroes (except maybe Diana. But that's a bit the point of her.) weren't morally perfect. Two of our merry band of misfits were found in a bar, one conning a group (we later find out he wanted to be an actor but couldn't because of racial prejudice) and another losing a bar fight. Cheif was a smuggler who worked both sides of the war and specifically pointed out that it was the Americans, not the Germans, who killed his people. It shows the general and Dr. Poison murdering Germans and using Germans for their experiments. While I agree they could have done more, I think the movie tried really hard to allow for gray morality. The only reason the Germans were seen as bad guys instead of the British is that Steve Trevor happened to be American, so we got the American point-of-view.
I agree with the third act problem (I mean, I liked that scene for its emotional value, with the realization of Love and her shift in perspective about humanity, and of course the entire bit with Steve, but I can see its many, many problems. Like that fucking mustache... Why? Why the mustache?) I just don't really know enough about editing, filmography, etc, to have any practical knowledge to back up any argument on either side for that, but I hate that the dialogue went from cool, worldbuilding stuff to campy, B rate video game villain stuff. "Join Me or die with them!" Why?
I feel like once they revealed that Diana was technically a God, they had to show her take her fighting to the next level. I think it's important that the final fight was more on par with her fight in BvS, even if it feels out of place in this movie, she didn't know she was a God before that point. If they didn't show her gaining confidence in her full abilities at that time, then her fight in BvS wouldn't feel earned. If they ended the movie with her only killing the general it would have felt empty in my opinion, if she's a God, gotta see her fulfill her potential. Glad to see her being heroic, you're right, I haven't really felt that much since the early spiderman movies, where every last person is important.
I agree I felt that too. The last fight seemed to just be placed to have her be in Par with her fight in BvS and to make her look "super". But storywise it wasn't needed so it kinda damaged the movie a bit. But it was still amazing and a good, enjoyable film

The problem with the final fight is: it was like one of those cheesy shonen, exchange a few hits, they stop to talk, exchange a few more hits, talk again, hero seem to loose and the vilain talk and finally hero use his/her super powerful trick and win.... like in corny japanese anime for teenager.... the kind of thing you find good when you are 12 years old, but becomes old and boring pretty fast.
I'm fine with them fighting, although the way she defeated Ares seemed a bit...anticlimactic. So all she had to do was deflect some of his lightning? They couldn't have thought of anything clever? Personally, I think that she shouldn't have been able to defeat him, and he should have lived on to see future movies.
I think you missed the plot a bit here, for starters they picked ww1 for a reason, ww2 had a 'clear bad guy' but ww1? that was just a super fucked up time for everyone, the germans usually get saddled with being the 'bad guys' simply cause they lost (and also ww2) but the movie uses this timeframe to make a point about grey morality. next they explain in the movie that aeries isn't causing the wars, he's just whispering ideas of weapons into humanities ear hoping they'll kill each other, it's not completely evil, but it's hella not good either.

Everything is set up for this kind of grey morality that Diana has to face, (something which I was very happy about), but that last scene with the soldiers kind of betrays that. Maybe they felt they needed a more "hoorah" ending, or most likely didn't want to go into another battle scene with the remaining german soldiers, but the water gets kinda muddled as to if the "bad guys" were under Aries' control. I think it was just a limitation of storytelling and how they can't have a small action scene after the big one to clean up "loose ends" (same thing with the droids in the Phantom menace or the Avengers alien race, which all "shut down" as to have a clearer victory for the protagonists.) Essentially both you and the guy are right, which unfortunately just makes the ending of the movie a bit muddled. But hey the movie was pretty good right? So we can forgive the small things ;P
Ares would have worked if they had firmly put him on the Ally's side. Then they could have done reveal that they had been working for him the whole time. They could've made her put away her childhood notions and had Diana stop the plane (have Trevor die along the way, or not) as the climax. Then they go home find out the war is over and then reveal Ares, Diana has an existential break down of sorts and Ares gets away.
Or set up a sequel where Ares = Hitler or is the one behind Hitler, and that WWI wasn't the "final" war. I find this version very thematically appropriate as Diana's attitude would mirror the general sentiment of WW1 and the shock of WW2. And the rise of the Nazis really does seem like some god plucked these people on their last legs and infused them with dark power. Again, thematically consistent with history.
Instead we get the boring "the germans were brainwashed the whole time" and "SURPRISE its Ares!". They just literally teleport him in, no real foreshadowing or build up there. Do you really think the god of war would be the one person trying to reach an armistice? That was really weak.
The problem with letting Aries get away is that it essentially would end in a cliff hanger and I feel like it'd be unsatisfying to see that. Also I kinda like the deeper meaning of him helping make the armistice as that became/was the Treaty of Versailles and we know who didn't like that...And I feel as if a sequel in World War II might get a bit repetitive or boring. As essentially it'd be too similar to the first movie.
Overall the movie was just missing a strong central villain, which on one hand helps to focus more on Diana and her struggle, but at the same time, she doesn't have a clear threat to push her into a different direction, and made for a lackluster third act.
Excited for the second one though, and really hoping Zach Snyder doesn't regress her in Justice League...which he might but we'll have to see.
General Ludendorff was a real general that served the German army, and to see him become turned into a comic book character irritated me.
But they added an obvious bad guy anyways! "Ludendorff" is so comically evil in this that were it set in WW2 he would still be a bit silly for how evil he is. Not to mention that the ending clearly implies the Germans were being brainwashed or something since when ares dies they suddenly stop fighting and take off their utterly unnecessary gas masks so the movie makers are either incompetent or inane. Set it in WW2 and just have him go around helping the Americans build new munitions or something. The USA had a "bomb everything that moves and even a few things that don't" military doctrine so this would definitely fit, even if they are unambiguous protagonists. Showing that the most evil acts of WW2 (arguably ever) required no divine intervention combined 'Murica being willing and able to vaporize entire cities, if that isn't an option reduce them to ash, would get the message across much better than in this film.

Since he looked exactly the same like in the Harry Potter movies, I couldn't even see "Ares" in the role. His look ruined it completely and I do believe that choice belonged to the entire cosmetics+production crew. No offence but why did he had to look the SAME, EXACT SAME like in one of the most successful movie franchises of all times?
Yeah, I love Thewlis, and he did play the main villain in Dragonheart, but that was 20 years ago. Been a while since he's played someone that evil and it kind of shows.

I actually enjoy seeing Superheroes not being perfect boyscouts from the get go. Seeing them struggle with the same questions most people struggle with is something I find to be quite inspiring. They always try to do what's right in the end.
The DCEU Superman is the first time I've actually really cared for Superman. I like the comics and the Reeves films but I never really cared for them on an emotional level because they were generally portrayed as the perfect person and that shit is predictable.

I assume your talking to me. It's almost a couple months since I watched the movie. But as i recall after Ares is destroyed the camera cuts to German soldiers throwing down their weapons. Thats moments after they were trying to kill Wonderwoman's friends. I thought this meant that the death of ares took their will to fight.
I'm not sure why you think WW II is relevant. As far as I'm concerned DC probably came up with some superhero related reason for the events. Just like Marvel did. Though I wouldn't know for sure as I have not read the comics.

That is why it is such a good idea to set the film in WWI instead of WWII, because it reminds us that Ares' death will not change anything, and the Great War was immediately followed by an even bigger conflict.
The whole point is that humanity is its own worst enemy. We do not need any kind of magical force to encourage us to fight and kill each other. All Ares was doing was giving ideas and concepts to improve our capacity for self-destruction. Ares' death was ultimately a drop in the ocean, and that is why it works.
I do not recall the Germans giving up after Ares' death. But if they did, it is because they lost. Their plan was ruined and their leader (not Ares) was dead. No one there knew who Ares was.

I think one of the biggest flaws with superhero movies are the two-dimensional, flat villians. Villians with no backstory, no motive, no real substance. All we get are "the darkness" or "evil robots" or some other ridiculous shit villians like that. Those villians are just supposed to represent evil and we're just supposed to accept that. A good hero needs a good villian. A good villian that's a good foil for the hero. Also, none of that "the villian redeems himself by switching sides because he wasn't that evil in the first place". Don't get me wrong, sometimes I love when a villian has redeeming qualities, but it is rarely ever done right. If we can get villians that have real substance, then maybe superheroes won't feel so shallow.

Frost was pretty fleshed out. He was a human, turned vampire, trying to be the best vampire. Blade is a vampire (half, but that's semantics in his story really) trying his damnest to remain human. Green Goblin grew alongside Spiderman. Doc Oct was awesome. Hell, even Dr. Doom was the best thing about those 2 F4 movies. They got fleshed out and proper time to develop with the heroes. This shouldn't be so hard since most of the main villains for any hero tend to be of their own creation. Thor and Loki, for example, show this, especially if you see the deleted scenes from the first one, namely Loki's congratulatory speech at the beginning. It's just that, after they started making money and getting taken more seriously, they started to focus only on the heroes. First Avenger, for example, gravely underused Red Skull.

12:27 - I think it's funny that, during your criticism that superhero movies don't emphasize enough that superheroes should be saving people, you're using clips from *Age of Ultron* where the heroes are literally saving an entire cities worth of civilians from certain death. Say what you want about Marvel films - and there is a lot to say, even if they are still (mostly) awesome - but one thing they rarely ever forget to do is show their heroes being heroes. Both Avengers films made sure we saw the good guys putting saving civilian lives at the top of their To-Do List.
But that is never the main focus of the films. Those are extra scenes thrown in there to emphasize the hero aspect. On the other hand, take Spider-Man Homecoming (yes it's an MCU film, but not nearly the same as a lot of the rest). All of Homecoming's big action scenes are Peter getting his ass kicked, and then having to save a bunch of people from dying. Even his final fight with the Vulture is him getting his ass handed to him, and then saving Vulture from an explosion. In most superhero movies, the hero saving people is secondary to fighting the villain, while in Homecoming and Wonder Woman to a slightly lesser extent puts the hero saving other people above everything else. The whole trench scene, or Wonder Woman running in to the poison gas. Yes Wonder Woman's goal is to fight the big bad guy, but she doesn't even do that, (because the fact that she did sucks and is super out of place, so it doesn't really count as the message is that not all people are good or bad, and that all people are somewhere in between). Her scenes of saving people are put above everything else, although her saving people Also includes a lot of beating up the bad guys whereas Homecoming is just Spider-Man saving them from a dangerous situation that doesn't involve bad guys. Age of Ultron is about the Avengers stopping an evil robot, whereas Wonder Woman is about saving people from themselves. There's no big bad guy according to the message of WW, while AoU has a clear "evil" threat, and the motivation to fight is not that they want to help people stop war and better humanity, it's that they want to stop the evil robot from murdering everyone. saving people from a villain doesn't really count. What really counts is saving people from situations beyond their control. A sinking boat, a falling elevator, a burning building, or in the case of WW, a brutal war that most people thought would never end.
Considering that the year WW is set in (1918) is the year that World War 1 ended plus the fact that throughout the movie the majority of the German forces outside of Ludendorff and Dr. Poison are shown to be overworked and generally dissatisfied with continuing the war...
I can genuinely believe that Diana killing Ares does not end war as a concept because WW1 was already on its merry way towards ending IRL.
Yea, I was thinking the whole movie that there would be a moment in the end where wonder women realizes that “Ares” is just a normal dude. And she would realize she was wrong. That would have kept a bit more with the plot of the movie.

I honestly think that WW had a great ending prior to those last 20 mins. Diana learns that people are inherently capable of good and evil, regardless of the existence of a god of war. It was perfectly bleak and real - until Aries shows up, gets defeated, and the two warring sides stop like someone hit an off-switch.

This is definitely my favorite DC movie so far. I want to like DC so badly; I'm a huge Batman fan. I kinda hate Superman because.... he just has too many abilities. Anyway, I know the DC movies are bad so far... but I like them.
Thank you for this. I cant express enough how appreciative I am of your observation that superhero movies right now need more "hero" than "super" in them. Definitely. "We fucked up now we gotta stop Ultron" is just part of the superhero gig. Big hero versus big evil robot, yadda yadda. But the flying machine part was a really down to earth way to do it, instead of picking them all up with the Iron Legion or Thor lifting them out bit by bit. They do it in a normal way and clear them so they won't be collateral damage.
That said, they kinda brought the battle to them, so it's not nearly as impactful as it should have been. That, and fighting Ultron is a very "super" problem that makes them more SUPERheroes than superHEROES
I completely agree with this review and felt the same way after I watched it, but I also feel like Diana and Pines' romance was a bit forced at times. Though, maybe I'm just biased toward characters NEEDING a love interest. Also, a lot of Diana's origin story stuff was changed for no apparent (as far as I can tell) reason.
Good point about The Dark Knight. Batman Begins is similar. There's a bigish human vs. human fight at the end but it tuns out he's just distracting the villain while the gambit he set in motion through Gordon is put in motion. Then at the end he just escapes the result of that gambit.
Yeah, I was irritated by the ending, too. The fight with that drugged-up general would've been perfect as an ending action piece, because you could see Diana easily defeat some physical threat, realize the world isn't so simple, and resolve herself setting an example, as was hinted in the first act. The Dragonball fight felt like something tacked on by the suits.
Your ending idea around the 9 minute mark is exactly what I think should have happened. After killing the General, she would see that she still has to fight her way out of Germany with Steve's crew (maybe help Steve get rid of the gas and keep him alive.). She realizes Aries was not behind all of this. Then after the fight is over, she goes back to England and talks to Lupin in an office and he reveals tha he is Aries runs down his spiel about man choosing to engage in war, then he disappears Like Loki. The commonality between the three recent good DC movies is very simple, they make you feel something.
Tbh, I fucking hated the ending. Any message that the first 80% of the movie was trying to send was completely tossed out of the window and ignored.

"Ares was fake all along" would be a powerful story. It would be perfect for Wonder Woman and perfect for this version of Wonder Woman. But a producer called out, "you can't do that, don't even try, it's impossible." and the other movie makers just sat their asses down in the trench and made the same movie ending we've seen a million times.
I did like the movie, however there was one problem with the movie, and it was the premise of world war I or the great war. The authors were like "hey did you see Battlefield 1, world war 1 is cool now let's do it in a movie!" The thing is, every american knows what happened in world war 2, that's just simple, Axis powers bad, allied powers good.
In world war I it's not so black and white. The Central powers are not really the bad guys, as they had no evil intentions. They wanted to live through these dying times of their empires, and to make sure empires stayed relevant in the 20th century, which old european ideals and technology mixed, causing turmoil in europe. What I didn't like was how they portrayed Germany.
Americans don't know shit about the first world war, and wonder woman is hitting a huge audience of people, but because of this movie is basically leading a big part of americans views of the first world war, I feel like how they interpreted Germany was flawed. World war 1 had no heros. There were those who embraced the new europe, and those who didn't, being the central powers. Look at the Ottomans. They existed from 1299-1922, which is 623 years. That's a long ass time, and they were declining, and did not want to give away the ideals of the past. Neither did the others, after past actions made them hate the allies, the exception being Bulgaria, however Wonder woman paints Germany like Nazi germany, as evil villains, just like the world war II Axis powers Germany.
No One watching the movie knew who the Kaiser was, and people didn't care because they didn't understand. This movie is changing the legacy of world war I to america, because the movie has been watched by millions by now, and now people watching the movie are going to come out pretending to know so much shit about world war I, when there clueless.

Yes some of the prequels stuff are bad and boring and hard to look at but some of the other stuff is really good like the story and some of the action scenes along with the whole plot.
BvS was about a Batman who was broken, lost a Robin, and just feels powerless because an alien just came to Earth and literally destroyed half the city. We seem to forget that Batman is human, not just cuz he is powerless, but of his morals too. Sometimes we break promises or don't live up to the stuff that we hope or try to accomplish. Batman was broken at this point and just went on a killing rampage and I understand that, because he is human.
Wonder Woman's final scene could have been solved another way, I agree. I would have liked for an ending that was similar to one of the first episodes of Justice League: Unlimited (the animated TV show, I believe it was the second episode of season 1). Diana basically calmed each side and basically defeated Ares because he became powerless with the conflict over with.
But I do agree Wonder Woman could have finished different but I don't think other DC movies are bad, they get a bad rap
Eternity Studios IKR? Its like people only wanna talk about what was bad about rather than the gold. Im not dismissing the jolly rancher, doomsday, JL cameos etc. But even this dude mentions the wearhouse stuff was good. The fight between BvS was good. And there's actually good reason I found out as to why Batman didnt use Kryptonite bullets. I ahree SS was a letdown for me. They cut so much of what I wanted to see I ledt the theater sad while my friends enjoyed it after they left BvS depressed. It was such a weird reversal.
Why bother introducing the “old Batman” into a new superhero verse. No character development is allowed cause “old broken Batman” is the last version of Batman. You can’t just develop him not killing people if he’s been killing people already. He shoots guns and kills people.

I agree. I loved the movie, but that ending...is hella weak.
What I loved the most about this movie was the new Wonder woman suit because it's based off of real armor. The Amazons have real historically based armor and clothing. Diana is an actual woman who doesn't have certain social standards drilled into her: she's loud, she's kind to everyone, she doesn't change how she presents herself by thinking about anyone watching her, etc. Seeing all of that - especially the scene where she eats the ice cream like a normal person would - shouldn't stand out as much as it does, but holy crap am I happy that it was directed this way.
The sad thing is that you could have a really good scene, an establishing moment for her motive as a superheroine, by saying that Ares isn't real, that they are metaphorical and just a symbol... but still insisting on fighting them. Her and her people aren't fighting to kill some big bad monster, they are fighting against a symbol for war.
They fight _against_ war.
They fight *for* peace.
Her whole purpose is to kill Ares, which in the end is really just a metaphor for ending war. Have her stop a conflict - I mean FUCK, this movie takes place in WORLD WAR I. Have her be an instrumental part of the ending of this war in the DCU! Ares didn't need to _actually exist_ for her to fight it and want to "kill" it.
It saddens me that there's some idiots in the comments who actually think the ending segments weren't out of place and fit in well smh.
