Not even gonna lie, Eddie looking like shit the entire movie is one of my absolute favourite choices ever. You expect the typical “shirtless badass” scene the whole time but it’s just a sweaty Tom Hardy looking like he’s coming out of a three day coke binge.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie but also it makes sense for him since Venom is at first killing his body right? But then it decides to reverse the damage it’s caused when it starts to like Eddie
It’s me okay I’ve had a rough September move on

"Yeah sure."
Now he can steal them

"Without her consent"
That monster!
I mean, 'stealing her documents with her consent' would also be a thing as well, it just means that she's going to lie to the gov't about her documents being stolen to ensure she doesn't go to jail.
the fact that the little girl never actually got to ask her question immediately stood out to me. It felt like an old Simpsons joke
I felt like that was a good character moment for the villain cuz he’s like “ask your question and don’t let people silence you,” AND THEN HE JUST WALKS AWAY it shows he really doesn’t care and it plays into his character for the rest of the movie
I honestly wasn’t bothered by Venom changing his mind about earth so fast because he’s just an insanely impulsive creature. I feel like it’s believable that he’d realize that he can have fun running around here with Eddie and then just decide to blow up the other symbiotes because they were all dicks anyway
If you were a total dweeb who constantly got kicked around and were suddenly in a different place where you were basically an unstoppable god, it would make sense that you’d want to stay
Yeah, to be honest here, I find the idea that Venom was a loser on his planet, but on earth he can be special to be a fun twist on such a character. It really took the dark origin and said screw it. Haha.
It also makes sense when you realize venom feels all of brocks emotions
Love
Doubt
Fear
Empathy and sympathy.
He didn’t make the decision In a vacuum.
The way it's explained here is basically that venom is afraid of being bullied back home, being a loser and all
And venom saying that Eddie is the real reason why he's staying on earth
Given the context of the first answer, and how Eddie acted the entire movie
It makes complete sense on it's own
yeah he realized it was the perfect playground for him n he didn’t really fw the other symbiotes
Eddie being a absolute loser with nothing going for himself makes it all the funnier knowing his future arch nemesis is a high schooler.
And the fact that his superpowers come from someone who's simply scared to go home and get bullied
That just makes it weird. My cousin recently pointed out how weird their age gap is and how they are usually close in age when they face off. If they actually go though with the crossover, then he was right.
In the comics the meet around the time peter is in college/adulthood
@@parkerboy795 it’s not weird MCU spider-man faced off against vulture and he’s in his 30’s or 40’s Spider-Man always fight villains who are older than him (MCU Spider-Man that is)

Eddie had way more chemistry with Venom, than he did with what's-her-face.
The girl from Destiny’s Child that wasn’t Beyoncé

4:20 What gets me is that Eddie's boss acknowledges that Eddie the kind is the kind of journalist that likes to investigate and expose bad people, then puts on a surprised Pikachu face when he does exactly that. Let's be real, Eddie was not the only fool in that situation.
That bugged me when I watched it. Anyone with any integrity would've assigned someone more objective.

I love this movie because the hack writers clearly wanted the protagonist to be a cool and utter badass, but the Tom Hardy took one look at the character and decided he would be violently ill, in constant pain, and kind of a dipshit who's always confused by the absurd situation. it's like he's fighting the script with a more compelling idea
Yeah he and the director had wildly different visions of the character, and Venom 2 will turn off the brakes and give Tom Hardy's version all the attention
@Fax ad saved me
The thing is that people always forget that venom in the comics wasn't that different from the one in the movies, sometimes it feels nobody actually know the character and assume vemon is never dumb and my god that's not true
So pretty much the same thing that happened with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack Sparrow was originally intended to be more of a generic badass, swashbuckler-type-of-character but Johnny Depp decided to instead play the character as a drunken, washed up, ambiguously gay rockstar suffering from syphilis (yes, according to Depp, Jack Sparrow has syphilis). He also wanted Jack Sparrow to be missing his nose, with a hideous wound where his nose used to be but this idea was shot down as being too much.
As a result of Depp's antics during the production of the film, Disney executives were absolutely livid about his performance, with then-CEO of Disney Michael Eisner in particular having a huge fit about the whole thing. As Depp himself recalls about the whole affair, “It trickled back to me that Michael Eisner went on some sort of bent about how ‘Goddamnit Johnny Depp’s ruining the film! Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ And so I fully expected to be fired, and I got a call from the upper echelon at Disney who were courageous enough to ask me, ‘What the fuck are you doing?’ And again, the questions came up, ‘Is it drunk? Is it gay?’ All I could say was, cause they set me up with a great line, I said, ‘Well don’t you know all my characters are gay?’ I really expected to be fired, but I wasn’t for some reason. They were actually gonna put subtitles under my character, they couldn’t understand Captain Jack.”
YES, my god the reviews that bitch about Tom "over-acting" the role are so dumb and boring, Eddie's just an insane unginhed little creacher of a man and we love that for him!
Venom captures the “Holy shit this is insane what the fuck is going on” essence of the 90s’ Venom comic books (most notably Venom: Lethal Protector) perfectly
Lol wtf..
They do call themselves lethal protector in the second movie
Dude wtf are you talking about? This movie is nothing like the comics.. these movies suck. I swear some of these comments are bots or something. Every person I know I’m person agrees with me that these movies are garbage. Venom shouldn’t have been a borderline comedy just so they can try to get more ticket sales with a little kid rating. I quite like Venom, UNIRONICALLY
Venom looks much better in this version than in Spider-Man 3, Riot and Carlton Drake are somewhat interesting villains, and I wouldn’t expect Eddie to look like some shirtless badass when he’s bonded with an alien that’s actively KILLING HIM, so I like the fact that he looks sick
Also, his character is depressed, his fiancé left him, he lost the one job he’d ever wanted and he’s forced to live in a small and shitty apartment
It’s fun
I agree with everything you just said EXCEPT about the venom design. The spider-man 3 one looks like a straight up nightmarish alien, while Venom venom just looks like goop.
@@HouseWrennt I think they meant body-wise. Venom in its own movie looks more accurate when it becomes full body, whereas Spider-Man 3 venom just looks like the black Spider-Man suit with a different face.

Isn’t that basically what they are in the comics now?
I couldn't do it. I thought this movie was ass.

That's the dumbest fucking thing about this movie.
Is Venom a bad movie? Yes
Will I still watch it bc Tom Hardy’s love for this character is so infectious? Absolutely
Tom Hardy’s hilariously bad American accent/mannerism is what keeps me interested.

@Fax mashall..ah?
Tom Hardy to Venom is what Ryan Reynolds is to Deadpool, and I'm fucking here for it.
I wouldn’t say “love” I’d say effort. Love is a big word
Tom Hardy is an old personal friend of mine. He used to train at the local gym with my late brother (who was a professional MMA and cage fighter and fought with Katie ("Jordan") Price's ex husband Alex Reid when he was building himself up for his role in 'Bronson'.
Tom's success story is like something out of 'revenge of the nerds'. I remember him being a very quiet and retiring guy who loved comics and sci fi and vintage horror films. It's strange seeing your friends on the telly on reality TV shows but that is ramped up 500% when you see them in blockbuster movies jumping out of exploding buildings and have action figures made out of them.
It's all good though. we are so proud of Tom and all he has achieved.

I think my favourite thing in this film is the relationship between Eddie, Dan and Anne because of the way they handled it. It’s nice to see them get along and support each other despite a broken off relationship.
My favorite part is the fact that they mispronounced "simbiote" during filming, got brutally made fun of after the trailers dropped, and just very obviously overdubbed the final cut of the movie to correct it without reshooting any of the scenes.
For anyone who doesn't know, rewatch the trailers. They pronounce it "sim-bye-oat" and it's incredible.

good point, its like the fact they are both losers in their own worlds is attractive to each other, like anti heroes molding the line between villain in spider man n sometimes often more then not "friend". THe ultimate toxic loser duo, its attractive to us in a really modernly gray way, i like it
They could have fixed some things by having Venom be the symbiote that escaped and made his way back to San Francisco by body hopping instead of Riot. You could then have the white spider logo present, the implication being that Venom was in New York for a while on his way. It also explains the trust/bond between Riot and Drake, they've been in close contact daily at the lab. That way, Venom actively wanting to save the day makes sense, he's had a lot of interaction with a huge amount of different people whereas Riot has only interacted with a guy who was routinely killing homeless people without any remorse.
As a big fan of the comics, I’m honestly pretty glad that Venom got his own story without Spider-Man. I thought it was a nice change of pace that was done well.
This is a subtrope of the buddy cop movie.

Venom wanting to get to a spaceship could have potentially been really interesting if it followed the comic book storyline about the symbiotes being part of a noble hive mind but those on earth had their connection broken and lost the plot.

Consistent Incompetency is better than Inconsistent Incompetency -Uncle Ben
One thing I absolutely adore about Venom's design in this movie is how they gave him white veins that mimic the spider symbol from the comics. It's amazing how far they went to keep Venom's iconic look even though they couldn't include Spiderman.
false. he had that symbol BEFORE he met spiderman, and the klyntarian god knull wears it too. it's a dragon that just LOOKS like a spider
@@whatsyourpoint5417 yeah but come on man the designers knew what they were doing
@@whatsyourpoint5417 Lol what? Venom was created before Knull was ever a thought. In the comics, its literally the same symbiote Spiderman got rid of. Venom was just evil spiderman, thats why he had the symbol.
They will give him the spider symbol too, after meeting with spiderman
@@istaykoo yes, but they retconned that, so they could have included it

Venom without Spiderman is like a cereal without milk
I mean, if you take this movie to be a romantic sci-fi comedy between Eddie and the symbiote, Venom's reasons for staying on Earth suddenly make a lot more sense.
Side note: the symbiote is in complete control when it takes over its host's body - you can tell by the internal struggle Eddie gives when Venom is in control. So like. That heavy tongue action Venom gave Eddie?? That was 100% the symbiote lol. There's no way that's the only way to transfer to a new host.

@@cymraegpunk1420 true but it has its own sort of thing going on, nothing close to rami, but still refreshing in modern day superhero movies.

In this age of extreme caution, soulless blandness and every movie being focus tested to within an inch of its life, the art of the good bad blockbuster is sadly dying out. I'm grateful to movies like Venom for holding the torch. If only it had an R rating.

The one good thing about the movie is Eddie and venom chemistry
I hated that too. The only thing I liked about this movie is that they got Venoms design down right. But man the CGI gets unbearable at a certain point.
@@SuperMurray2009 why did you hate it I thought it was cool
@@abdullahamr9941 Bad Acting Is one. What's funny is I think Ahmed and Hardy have done spectacular acting in the past but their acting is unbelievable bad and Cosmonaut summed it up perfectly. Hardy is trying to hard to sound like a NY Meathead and Ahmed is just monotone as fuck.
Also the story is just bad. It has no clear stakes or direction. It doesn't set up what story I'm supposed to be invested in good enough at all. The story our protagonist is engaged in doesn't interest me in the slightest. Everything is just thrown at Eddie so it's hard to feel invested.
Also the CGI is terrible and the action is terrible. If the plot is gonna be nonsensical and stupid then at least give me good action. But I couldn't get that either. The movie scenes are heavily cut to oblivion to hide the gore and the CGI is extremely distracting because of how bad it is.
@Fax "ye. wow" shut up
