Watched this video because I was trying to remember if I needed to pull the console out and luckily I won't need to. About to install a pioneer so thanks for making my life a little easier!
I just bought a G6 and I will be installing an aftermarket stereo thank you for the video i like to see how the dash comes apart before I do it the video was straight to the point and what I was looking for I don't like watching dyi guys in there driveway
Thank you, GM, for designing this car like like a bunch of idiots. Seriously, there are so many examples of this kind of annoyingly involved process to get at anything in the car that even the dealership techs will try the less-common solutions first simply because they're easier to access! I know GM isn't the only car company making it hard for people to get into the guts of the cars and replace simple things, but it's particularly egregious on the G6, along with other dumb design choices.
Okay, so in the case of the car stereo, it's true that they used to be the prime theft target in bad neighborhoods, so it might make sense to make the removal process tricky, but is that still a major concern?
Even if "theft of the radio" was an excuse, the G6 was designed all over like this. Want to replace your steering wheel emblem? Why not remove your entire steering wheel airbag while you're at it? It's stupid, and a job that would take 5-10 minutes on your average vehicle becomes an entire day's worth of work on a G6.
Ever do parking brake cables? See back seat removal, console removal, door trim removal and hack the carpet out with a knife so you don't have to remove seat belts. Then if you buy Delco parts 1 cable is 3" shorter and the other is 6" longer. They go in the opposite direction of the ones that came out and route over the axle instead of under. My sympathy to the heater core job, SCRAP THE CAR! Personally I do NOT own GM cars, I bought it to help a friend out who needed a car.
Thank you alot!!! My backup camera blew out and was draining my battery, had to cut the cord. But the cord was still drawing power and could've started a fire. This video helped me take the cord out completely. Thank you so much!!
@@96cr Lol I made this comment eight years ago. That Pontiac G6 didn't make it past 100k miles before the transmission went out. I drive a 2020 Honda CRV now because fuck all that.
I’m glad I found this video, had climate control light bulbs burn out and if I gotta do this to access the panel and get in there they can stay burned out now
I have an 06 and it's easy to take out the radio. I did it myself. You don't have to take the glovebox and the panel under steering wheel completely out. Just the screws that are closest to the center console. Pull the panels down and the center radio panel can be pulled out. It's easy.
I just bought an 09 G6...and my jaw is on the ground right now looking at what i have to do to get at this audio system haha!!! wow....i may not have bought it to be honest...
YES! The stereos are what is called, VIN locked. The dealership may charge up to $175 to unlock the stereo, if they are unable to unlock the stereo. Not all stereos are interchangable.
Reset the stereo, disconnect the negative terminal from the battery for 15-20 minutes then reconnect. If the problem continues, we would have to see the stereo in shop for repair CarStereoHelp (dot) com.
WIll installing a aftermarket radio allow the car to function properly? Not messing anything up? Also how can you get your fuel information to show up on a aftermarket radio? Thanks so much
no there isnt an aux output on any model before 2008. i bought a addon unit for mine to add aux.. as for the door speakers what makes you think they are loose?
Few questions.. I’m having issues with 07 g6 I just bought used. Does not have the factory radio, aftermarket was already installed but keyfob doesn’t work. Is the factory radio needed to program those?
Great video! thanks for the time-saving information. I have a question about the two wiring harnesses that you removed from the back of the stereo, which one is for the XM radio?
In regards to BLKWDWENT & denizac...... I have the same problem and would like more info. regarding the metra adaptor. I love my car but also got it from a non-pontiac dealer and they are offering to replace with a kenwood. Now would it be an option for me to keep my car radio and see if they can fix it, but also pay the charge for the re-keying??? Sunshine
I wanted to upgrade my 06 Pontiac stereo to an 08 stereo to get an AUX port and get rid my fm transmitter. I took the stereo I purchased to a dealership. They told they were unable to do it because of the part number, should I try another dealership or return it
I had a windshield put in my Pontiac and the next day it was raining the radio went wild and I cut the radio off and it was still making noise and now the radio plays nothing its like there is no station do I need to have it reprogram at the dealer or just replace .
If I purchase an after market stereo (app. radio) will it display the cars info. like temperature, trip meter, oil % life? That is useful info, however without the aux input or bluetooth the stereo is useless. Thanks.
hey bob, i have a 07 pontiac g6 gt is there, i want to know if aux outlet is on the back if the radio. would you know? plus i beleive speaker wires are loose in my fron two doors
With the error code since you replaced the battery... Try the reset of the changer by disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes and reconnecting. If this does not reset the changer, then repair is needed. See the link to our "Shipping" page on the website before sending.
Hi Bob...When my car is off, the backlight of the radio and the clock flash on every 30seconds about. It drains the battery of the car overnight. Do you think this is a problem with the radio, or is there a short in the wires?
This does not sound like a common problem? Try a reset, disconnect one of the battery terminals for about ten minutes and reconnect. See if it comes back to working correctly.
hey, I tried to remove my glove box the same way you did to try to figure out why my Pontiac G6 was making a clicking noise but then I tried to start it so I could identify the problem and it won't start.
I have a problem with my g6 stereo. the clock works but nothing else. Is this in need of being reset by the dealer or should I scrap it and go aftermarket. I bought the car like this and do not know what may have happened to the stereo in the past. thanks
Anyone have any idea how much a dealership would charge to buy and install a 2008 head unit for a G6? CD player crapped out on me and won't eject in my 2006. Figured if I were to replace it, I'd go with an '08 model for the aux input. The fact that they apparently want $75-150 just to program the unit is ridiculous. Curious to know what they'd charge for the entire install.
Wait So I Take My Stereo To the Dealership And Get It Fixed ? One of My Family Memeber But 2 Dics In A It Got Stuck, So Would I Be Able to Take the CD's out by myself ? 😕😨
It will help so you don't damage any of your electronics, but if you disconnect it I don't think you'll be able to switch the gears to remove the dash assembly all the way. I'm no so sure.
Derrick h ya you should really disconnect it, but you only need to disconnect it when your working with the stereo, so while your taking the dash apart dont worry about it so you can shift down and such, then when your playing with the stereo disconnect it, also especially with a amp or subwoofer, you could blow your amp if some wires touch or if you dont have your ground and such lol
you dont have a fuse box for your radio lol but you dont need to do anything with fuses for your radio man, just disconnect yur battery if your taking it apart.
