- Review | This Pontiac G6 GTP turned out to be a lot more fun than we expected. With an upgraded engine and suspension, the GTP is no ordinary G6.
The Pontiac is powered by a GM 3.9L V6 pushing 240 horsepower. In today's episode we're gonna take it for a test drive through the curves and see just how good of a car it is. We'll discuss the specs, interior, and driving experience of this 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP.

G6’s are pretty slept on, funny seeing peoples faces when they go to cut me off and get stopped. don’t tail gate peeps, also the GT, GTP and GXP share the upgraded suspension parts 🤙🏻
Stg I got a 07 coupe it’s Lowkey beautiful
I got an 06 gtp, people don’t easily cut me off either lol, they never see it coming when I hit go
I got a 07 gt and let me tel you. Thai fucking think is fun
i love these they’re so comfortable inside, they are quick, suspension soft, and soft steering. it literally feels like driving an infiniti g35 (great car)
soft steering is funny because my power steering went out because i have a leak from lord knows what and i drive it like that because it’s 1,000 to get fixed… and it really changes how great it was before the steering went out
This thing kicks ass as a daily driver!! I've got a 3.6 GT that I occasionally run doordash in, the stock sound system is REALLY good. It has enough power to get wand go when needed, the Ebrake being so accessible is a plus and it's really reliable. Wound up in a ditch had to replace the suspension and the frame was bent. 10k miles later it drives like nothing happened. First time car or just need something to abuse? I recommend this car!
I’m picking mine up tomorrow I’m so excited!
I had the GXP coupe version of this car and it was great for me. It went on 8 cross country road trips with no issues other than a heater core hose. I think I paid $12,000 for it almost new in 2010, and back then it was a head turner with the body kit & huge rear wing. Kind of funny I’ve owned cars upwards of $100,000 but I always find myself searching up g6 videos for the nostalgia 😝
My 07 g6 gr8 coupe is a really good car. Still turns heads. Plenty of power in 3.5 liter V6. Doors are very solid and so is this car. I have mine since early 2009. Was a dealer demo...hanging on to it for now. Very reliable as well.
I had a 2006 G6 GTP Coupe and a 2008 G6 V6 4-Door… I loved them both, although, the 3.9 in the 06 has a special place in my heart, lol. 08 was totaled from a hit and run and I traded in the 06 for my current 2016 Terrain. Good memories 🖤
i have a 2006 g6 gtp coupe…. my first car and i love it but im having so many problems with the steering 💔 my power steering has had a leak for 7 months now and its so expensive to fix ughh
I have had mine for 10 years now. Upgraded brakes and suspension made it really fun. Now upgrading engine and transmission to really liven her up.
how about the power steering?
@@halflife103 Mine has the belt driven pump. Still factory original. Now that you mention it, might as well replace it too.
@@halflife103mine went out. the leak in mine is crazy my steering wheel hardly turns
I brother had a red 2 door 6 speed gtp, it was a hoot! and the car I learned to drive stick on
hell those manuals are rare. I wanna get me one
I have this car and I honestly love it, I upgraded the suspension got nice tires and a cold air intake and it feels way more powerful than it should.
I want to do some similar stuff to mine (a convertible GTP). Still is stock for the most part, just plasti-dipped the emblems and grill. Some nice black rims, CAI, and a wing would make it look and ride awesome
@@craneoDeFuego077 How much gas does it cost? I’m planning on buying a used one for $3000 which is surprisingly cheap but I have no idea of cars or anything about cars cuz dis would be my first time buying and owning one😂😂😂. But ur help would be very much appreciated 🙏🏿
I had a navy blue 2008 G6 GT sedan and it was nice for the time! Responsive, good hydraulic steering, and fairly stable. The issue I had was with every turn on the street, the gas hand dropped. No joke! I seen it go from half a tank to 1/4 tank by making a turn. Then it would recover in about a minute but not quite back to half. The dealership/service couldn’t find a problem.
Bro I have the same issue too💀💀💀my g6 does that all the time
@@lemonine2712 so strange!
That was probably the sending unit. I had the same problem in my 07 GT, I could never knew how much gas I really had. So I dropped the tank and replaced the fuel lever sensor. That was a few weeks ago. Problem solved.
I paid $300 for my 06
G6 GTP Manual it was my first car and i miss it.
What happened to it?
I miss my baby 🥺 06 G6 GTP Was my first car and I loved it.
This video truly broke my heart
currently what I drive and I love it
Had the G6 GTP with the 3.6L that made around 255HP such a fun car and a great daily driver, ended up selling it for an abarth 500 and sometimes I actually miss it 😂
I had an '07 GTP Sedan, bought it as a dealer managers car with 4k miles. I used to keep it in a garage in Brooklyn, with a bunch of Audis, Mercs, etc in there. She looked perfectly appropriate in that garage. Her engine was throaty and robust, I loved her. I only sold her to buy a G8 GT, the greatest Pontiac I've ever owned. I'd like to buy a mint used GTP convertible, tho it has the more sluggish 3.9L 6.
I currently have a 06 gtp 6 speed and i love it. Way better than an automatic.
I just bought one today that's identical to that in every way except I got a manual and can say already I will be loving this car for years. Took over a year to find one with low enough miles (76K on it) and rust free but it happened. So thank you for making this video that I watched when my hunt for one first started because I might not have been as eager to look for one had I not seen this. If you are ever in Michigan you are more than welcome to try it out.
I know you will enjoy it. I bought mine with 107k miles in Phoenix at a used car lot in 2020. It is a 2007 GT standard transmission. If you haven't done already, find a 2009 or 2010 G6 with the upgraded instrument panel and swap it. You will get the drive information center there, instead of the factory radio. That way you can install any better unit without losing all that data. Also I came across a 2007 GXP and got the spoiler. My car looks better with it. Good look!!!!
@@kastellolo5212how much gas does it cost?
@@sep4405 How much money?
4 years 120k miles black 4door 4cyl with 6speed+sport package no complaints
I've still got my 07 with just over 70k miles, silver 4 door with the 2.4. Wish I had the 6 speed as the 5 speed seems reluctant to shift down. No rust yet and still runs like when it was new 👍
@@jakef.9526 the one I have is a 09 pre facelift. Luckily I have no rust yet but I live in a snowy area so that’s tbd
i have an 07 sedan with the 3.5, it’s not crazy fast but i love her😊 i’d love to own a coupe someday with the 3.9
I just bought 2007 hardtop convertible G6 GT coupe. 51k miles for $6k!! I love it! Wish it was a 6 spd though..But i love it anyway!
I test drove this car in 2006. Hurricane Katrina had killed everything I owned. I could not really get the dealer to bargain so I passed, eventually buying a 2006 Honda Civic EX, coupe. Come to think of it, those two cars have almost identical, body styles.
You should make a review of the Pontiac G6 Gxp. I love the Gxp grill.
I found a 2008 gxp and I pulled the spoiler, which is bigger than the gt coupe and has the third brake lights. It looks great. Those coupe without a spoiler look naked.
@@kastellolo5212 they look grate without spoiler. Specially the 2-door coupe
I have a comp g gtp. I have owned modded older wrxs and an 8th gen modded civic si in the past and this thing is surprisingly faster and slightly less agile than any of those. The comp g is modded too but it's so unsuspecting. The torque is instant and it corners almost as good as my prior cars. I have recently embarrassed a golf r and a lancer evo X just on the highway. They probably could of beat me if they took me seriously 😆
i have a 06 gtp 6 speed , i love it
08 GTP. Definetly isn't a 2002 T top camaro or a 97 Firebird I had before that... But I really like the extra space NGL 😂
@@carefulilickwindows6881 very fun car for cheap
I have a 2007 gtp sedan I love it it’s my first car and I definitely give some of these everyday cars a run for there money !
That's what's up. I got an 06 gtp sedan
Yes bro theyre so slept on
Yes 🙌 I have a2009 3.5 moves well with traffic
Good competition for the accord coupe in the used market but the prices are going up because they are hard to come by. Anyone who has a g6 take care of it and preserve this future classic
How much gas does it cost? I’m planning on buying a used one for $3000 which is surprisingly cheap but I have no idea of cars or anything about cars cuz dis would be my first time buying and owning one😂😂😂. But ur help would be very much appreciated 🙏🏿
@sep4405 depending on how much you floor it at green lights , and highway vs stop and go. But I get 16 when I push it insanely and about 19 average, 24+ on long highway trips
@sep4405 mine is 3.9 though , least efficient but best sounding
I picked up a fairly used g6 gt for 1500$ and it’s my first car. Needs a new radio and ac but ill work with what I got until I can fix it all.
This was my favorite car ever! Loved it
I got an 07 GT with the 6 speed F-40 trans. It is fun, but the manuals in these cars are clunky. Not really meant for speed shifting (especially first to second, due to big ratio difference)
It really is a great car. Love mine!
How is it for highway driving? Does it shake lots?
Mine doesn't, however I just did a complete suspension upgrade because my bushings were starting to dry rot. Illinois winters + 15 years old = definitely due.
I own a 2006 Pontiac G6 gtp 6 speed as my summer car and my 2004 Impreza 5 speed for the winter months here in Minnesota 🥵
My g6 gr8 coupe 3.5 liter is pretty quick. I have to keep it from flying. I don't know how to use the Manuel shift. In O7 not much looked like this car. The 4 door is awful but the 2 door is a head Turner.
Keep going guys! I like your content and I hope more subs come in as time goes on ✨
It's Very good experience Y confirm
“Are you sure?!” 🤣🤣🤣 SUBSCRIBED!
Used to have a g6 gtp. Amazing car, but it was a casualty of the 3.6 timing chain issue. We werent gonna pay 4 grand to fix a car that was barely worth 5 at the time, so we ended up giving it to a charity.
Cool review, should review those old firebirds😁
He not ready
I love my g6 got it for a good price to
About 8 years ago my mom had his car and I was using it one night coming home these guys at 2:00 a.m. blocked the road with their late 90s mustang I knew they were out there to rob people luckily I got by them and floored it for a few miles and I was surprised how fast the car was Pontiac G6 was awesome.
i have the 07 g6 sedan and it has the 3.5 v6 and those engines have the get up and go for what they are.
I have the 3.5 gt coupe and its spacious, sporty, and reliable i love it
That manual stick shift is no d*** shift is no joke. Cruise that about 35 or 20 and tdelete and then drop that down 2 gears I guarantee your chest will hit the steering wheel and then hit the gas and your back will hit the driver's S that driver seat. That thing will jerk you
What happened boiss?????
thanks. my gf wants to get her daughter an Accord coupe from the same model yrs these were out. im gonna go with this instead.
The accord coupes are very cool too! ive had both.
I have one now it’s my project car that a tree fell on I got for 300 dollars and drove it on the trailer
Do you still have it? I to own a 2007 g6 gt 3.9 convertible..as a project car. Im very happy with it.
@@andrewklingenberg882how much gas does it cost?
@sep4405 I put about 20 a month in it considering i don't use it much i put about 30 miles a month on it. It's still under 100k an i keep it in my garage.
What’s the difference between the 3.9 GTPs and the 3.9 GT Convertibles?
I think it is the rear end. I have the gt coupe with a spolier. I like it better than the convertible. Those car without the spoiler look naked.
Lol i have the gtp with manual transmission and believe me the manual is what you want. I have dragged that transmission and standard blows it off the park.
ArE yOu SuRe
Looks like the solara .
i got one there awsome
Wife brings home a g6 GTP....
Me... honey no... who hurt you...
-floors it-
Me... well I mean they didn’t hurt you too bad...
Where’d y’all go?!?!?
I miss my 2dr gxp
how did you get a stiffer rear sway bar???
And what suspension upgrades are on it?
I got a gt sport sedan 3.9l 6speed manual
Where you go!
I wish I had my G6 GTP still smh
On 2nd listen, you didn't even floor it @2:54
don’t underestimate the g6 on a pull it will put you back in your seat Lol
low torque is all there at 2500 so you're wrong
@2:58 #VroomVroom #WeBuildExcitement
3.6 litre V6
the two door is so ugly imo the sack is awful looking I don't understand why they did that other than maybe aerodynamics because the 4 door looks so much better
Imagine what a 6 speed would have done to it. Even if it's a 6 speed auto.
The 3.6 have a 6 speed auto.
The gxp has a 6 speed
4 liter v6 🤷♂️
Lotta contradictions in this review.
I was truly inspired by the stock Pontiac in AZ, who's driving ha the Porter he just had to take it for a spin only to end up at the AKA the illegals what do u know whipped alotta other cars there and just because I hope he got fired the next day JK
What a horrible desing.
Good luck when puberty hits.
sounds like somebody got bullied in school
I got me a white one😈
