I grew up playing sonic the hedgehog as a toddler in 98.(i was born in 95) I would always go through and explore the map to see what it had (since i didnt know there was an end goal. Ei finishing the game.)it was kinda cool seeing the hidden stuff in sonic the hedgehog as a kid.
I've been buying bucket-list Sega Genesis games I always wanted but never had off ebay recently before they get too expensive. I just got Gauntlet 4, Rolling Thunder 2 and 3, Crue Ball (with the Motley crue soundtrack). I'm not trying to get every game but want a few more wish-list Genesis titles before I move on to the next retro console.
Serious question for anyone that can answer it: what is the deal with all of the downvotes? I've read a ton of the comments here, and they are all positive. I cannot fathom why anyone would downvote anything by John. Did I miss something somewhere? This is ridiculous, and I'm genuinely curious.
Wow! So cool to see all the games. I saw one in your collection I did not know existed I will try to find. My first new console was a model 2 Genesis. I got it for Christmas. I snuck into my parents room and found it wrapped under the bed and I peeked through the gift wrapping and I noticed it was the console but I tried to not excite myself because it could have been something else. Later on my bro and sis knocked the console off the dresser fighting over it and the 1st player controller didnt work. I never got rid of the console and picked up a model 1 at a garage sale. Years later as an adult with a basic knowledge of soldering I figured maybe the controllers solder broke from the board and I re touched the control port and I f ing fixed my console!! After so many years lol. The model 2 Genesis has a place in my heart I will never get rid of.
Man this is an awesome collection. I’ve always been a huge fan of Sega and especially the genesis because it was the system I had after the NES. I grew up playing these games. Wings of wor was an awesome game and I only have the cartridge but it has an awesome case. Its hard to pick favorites because a lot of the games were great.
I owned SNES as a kid, but I only played a little bit of Genesis at my cousins houses. I remember the Genesis D pad seemed a little oversized at the time, but I recently got a Genesis model 1, and when I held the 3 button controller for the first time in about 25 years, I realized the controller feels amazing. It seems to fit perfectly in my hands. It's rounded on top for comfort of the index fingers, and the A, B, and C buttons are diagonal because your thumb goes higher as you move from A to B to C. It's very comfortable.
Cool. I saw your entire NES collection at PRGE last year but I was unable to attend the event this year. Great to hear that you were able to display your Genesis collection for the 2019 expo.
I love the MegaDrive ,( I'm in Ireland), great collection, and you ran through it. This deserves an hour video🤗 Favs as a kid were the golf games, and kid camelion!
Awesome complete set! My top 10 favs were 1)Insector X 2)Sonic the hedgehog 3)Streets of Rage 2 4)X-Men 5)Golden Axe 6)Mortal Kombat 2 7)Joe Montana 8)Maximum Carnage 9)Splatter House 3 10)Dinosaurs for hire These were probably the most played games throughout my childhood, Insector X was absolutely my pride and joy I would play that game for hours at a very young age! Thanks for sharing your collection, I just broke over 100 games myself not all boxed though but I'm getting there... SEEEGAAAAA!
games i played and loved: all the sonic games, greatest heavyweights, monopoly, ms pacman, zoop. I didn't have that many games for the genesis, but I love to discover new ones.
Awesome John Hancock, thanks for sharing your Genius collection. I have just started collecting for Sega, so I only have about 20 titles so far, I grew up with Nintendo lol.
I'm hoping the pandemic can end someday. Would love to go back to PRGE. Of course, plenty of cool stuff at the booths-- but best of all in my opinion was the free arcade games with some truly obscure titles here and there!
I traded in my NES for the Genesis back in the day. I remember taking it with us on a family trip and playing in the hotel room. Sonic 1 and 2, Rocket Knight Adventures, Golden Axe II, Rambo III and Shining in the Darkness were my favorites. Later I got the Sega CD and enjoyed Sonic CD, Sewer Shark and Jeopardy. Can’t remember what I did with it after high school, but I went to Pink Gorilla a year or two ago and picked one up along with old favorites and am finding new ones.
The sega genesis was my first game console. My family had a nintendo entertainment system but the genesis was the first one that was my own. Love the boxes. I had batman and robin busy town eternal champions xmen 2 sonic and sonic 2. Spent a lot of time renting games from the blockbuster. Earth worm jim, boogerman just to name a few. Special place in my heart for the genesis.
This is an awesome collection. Currently I enjoy the new Sega Genesis Mini and the Sega Genesis Collection on PS4. However, of course I also love the Mortal Kombat games, NBA Jam, and Maximum Carnage. P.S. I never knew that Primal Rage was released on Sega Genesis.
I grew up watching R rated movies so I was always drawn to Splatterhouse (especially 3) and Mortal Kombat (especially 2). Mortal Kombat is the reason I bought a Megadrive over a SNES as I didn't want to buy a system where the games were being censored.
To name a few personal favorites from back in the day: Ghouls N' Ghosts, Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Streets of Rage 2. Later I discovered other great titles, approximately 80 top Genesis games altogether, less than 1/7th of the total library, and unfortunately a portion of the 80 were also available on the SNES which more often than not were superior ports in the graphics and sound departments.
cody I've got 2 special need kids, so I dont have time to put in to my games as much as I would like, I do have a GoFundMe but it's for my 2 girls, all I do is occasionally stream my Saturn collection trying to beat them all. But not enough to make any money. But thanks for the the encouragement!
your dream came true, support a museum. thanks. my favorite genesis title at this moment is judge dredd i think its better than the snes because you can see more of the world and they chosen a better color design, also i like the music better!!
Genesis games I played back in the day (was an SNES fanboy, FYI): Sonic 1-3 NFL Football 94 starring Joe Montana (lots of memories playing with my dad) Cool Spot Aladdin Flashback A little bit of Street Fighter 2 to see if it was good (it is, but still played the SNES version) Xmen 1 and 2 Virtua Racing Sonic CD (needs Sega CD, but counting it) Mortal Kombat on Sega CD (could never find it and had to rent it) Games I wish I played back in the day, cause I didn't know how much better it was than the SNES counterpart: Earthworm Jim Captain America and The Avengers Contra Rocket Knight
AMAZING - SEGA RULES ! I bought my Sega Genesis from Toys r Us way back in 1989. Back then I was deciding in between buying the Genesis or a Turbografx 16. I chose Sega because their expertise on arcade games ...and I was right ! by the way the TG16 was amazing but brand recognition won...we all won anyways !...thanks John
Cool. Hard to choose a favorite. Mega Turrican, Sonic 2 and MUSHA, Wonderboy, Toejam & Earl, oh so many. I am not from USA, but there is a Video Game museum in USA, maybe you can donate the games to them? National Video Game Museum I think it is called, they probably know what to do at least, in regards to Museum stuff.
BOOGERRR!!!!! No doubt one of the funnest games I played of all time! lol I feel bad for the "normal" ppl that did not get a chance to play Boogerman. Skitchin' is another under rated game I think ppl should try. Some of my favs are Shaq Fu (OMG!!) (your copy is GRAIL to me!), Primal Rage (Played soo much), Batman The Video Game (over $100 now..), Maximum Carnage (Soo fun), Splatter House 2-3 (Most rented Blockbuster game lol) ALL Streets Of Rage! (DUH), Weapon Lord (MEMORIES!), Mighty Morphing Power Rangers (Speaks for it self lol), Battle Toads (A must), Beavis And Butthead (Played a lot with my cousins because they had the game lol), Clay Fighter (Miss those days), Collage Slam (Family Weekends!), Earthworm Jim 1-2 (Loaner Life baby!), Fists Of Fury (Automatic), JammIt (Underrated) Jordan VS Bird (OH MAAAN!!), Kid Chameleon (Slept On Game), Both NBA JAM (who likes basket ball and doesn't like this game lol), of course there is much more that we pry all love but these are some of my personal favs that i played mostly alone lol BUT MY FAV OF ALL TIME!?, DRAGON : THE BRUCE LEE STORY!!! Sir you are a Game God in my eyes! Thank You soo much for this Dopamine rush my friend!! P.S - I had no Idea there was a Chavez II game. that one got to me right there. The video just reminded me that you have a complete NES collection lmao! I will spare you the reading on that one ;) Just Know That Crash n' The Boys was my JAM!!!!!! HaHa thanks again
I just noticed that the Japanese word for the water-loving animal the otter (kawauso) and the Kawasaki, another Japanese word for something that deals with water. They both have kawa in common. Saki is rice wine in Japan, so does that mean Kawasaki is watery rice wine? Also, John Travolta's son suffered from a disease named Kawasaki. John Travolta, volt... Hydro Thunder.... water is a great conductor of electricity.
Mutant Leauge Football, Starflight, Rings, of Power, TMNT Hyperstone Heist, Sonic 2, Desert Strike, Cyborg Justice, D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, SF2, Mortal Kombat, and many others. There are a lot of good games and good memories to be had.
Hey John, I appreciate your willingness to bring your complete Sega Genesis collection and giving everyone an in-depth look at the library and what it has to offer. So much variety genre-wise, but a decent amount of them didn't see the limelight, which is unfortunate as they seem like they could be hidden gems. This display also gives people renewed interest in the history of the console, seeing what could be fun to pick up and play, as well as showing us how it's of particular significance to your life as a hobby. It was awesome to see you at PRGE this year, engaging in a meet-and-greet, asking questions at the museum, and a signing/photo after your panel. I had a blast overall and it was a great closer to my very first convention, so thank you!
Love Sega Genesis. Some of my favorite games from it was Sonic of course, Alter Beast, Golden Axe, & Street Fighter 2: Championship Edition. I still play the crap out of them.
Thank you for getting me back to the Days of this great Console. My Memories are full of spending Days and Nights with Sonic, Streets of Rage 1 - 3, Eternal Champions, Landstalker, Phantasy Star 3. Loved it😍
That must be a pretty amazing feeling when you have complete strangers that share a love of video games asking with people who don't know much and everything in between look at your collection. I can only imagine how the museum will come out.
Madden 93 was the best! Still had the ambulance too I believe. Lol “He got up looking out his ear hole” lol Still have the 93 poster you’d get with the send in card. Buddy and I drove our local video rental store nuts trying to buy the rental only Championship edition and he eventually caved in and we both got one. I think you could mail order it a few years later as well. Awesome to see it in the collection. First Madden on Genesis really started a craze. We held a Madden league for years. Multiple TVs b4 the net over 10 guys. Awesome collection, Grats on the good showing! 🤘 hut hut lol
Just wonderful !!! Spent My childhood playing moonwalker, streets of rage 1, fifa soccer, Revenge of shinobi, altered Beast. Played a lot of space harrier too with My master system converte. All the best from Europe!
Great video John, it's so nice to see all of them in such good condition! My favorite game on the Genesis would have to be Golden Axe, hands down the best game to play with a friend on the genesis.
Would you be interested in buying a super rare Sega item? I won the Sega 60th commemorative medal, there’s only 10 in the world! It was a prize for completing the Sega Earth Ufo Catcher.
Pure awesomness.. i love sega so many memories from back in the day.. thanks for sharing so cool to be able to show your complete sega genesis collecton to the world.. in such a cool place.. big LIKE.. see you.. :) :D
I didn't play the Genesis as a kid but I'm appreciating it and own one now and some of my favorite games on it are Gunstar Heroes, Phantasy Star series, Shining series, Sonic Series, Altered Beast, Streets of Rage series, Arrow Flash, Burning Force, Dynamite Headdy, Wonder Boy in Monster World, MUSHA, as well as some Japan exclusives such as Panorama Cotton, Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer, Pulseman, Battle Mania Daiginjou, Dyna Brothers 2, and Puyo Puyo.
Great to see the collection John. I got my Genesis for Christmas 1990. The games I used to play all the time were Ghouls N Ghosts, Moonwalker, The Sonic series, Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Golden Axe, & Splatterhouse 2 & 3
My favourite memory is when one of my brothers friends would bring over his Turbo Grafx-16 on the weekends and we'd take turning playing our Sega Genesis and his Turbo Grafx-16.
Awesome collection, what is the game at 07.17? America got the better library over the pal region, and in most cases better artwork in my opinion. I prefer the name megadrive and the color blue banners over the red though on the cases, just my preference...and of course you had 60hz which we get cheated out of. Renovation games front covers are the greatest! The game left of samurai showdown around 7.17?
One of the many things that drew me to the genesis when it came out were all the great arcade ports, games like strider and golden axe and altered beast were some of my Favorite In the arcade. I had a master system and loved the ports there but was always a Lil disappointed when a lvl was missing or some other compromise was made. The genesis had much more faithful games on it.
This is a great appetizer in the wait of the upcoming muse eum. Keep it up john!
This is really cool John. Hope to see the museum up n go anytime soon
Wow amazing I still have mine great console ❤
You and Pat the NES Punk should open a museum.
Please no. John is a good dude. Pat is a douche
Serious question for anyone that can answer it: what is the deal with all of the downvotes? I've read a ton of the comments here, and they are all positive. I cannot fathom why anyone would downvote anything by John. Did I miss something somewhere? This is ridiculous, and I'm genuinely curious.
They are all positive because he deletes negative comments. Check out Radical Rick, Canadian Gamer and MJR's recent "rare PS4 game" video.
Wow! So cool to see all the games. I saw one in your collection I did not know existed I will try to find. My first new console was a model 2 Genesis. I got it for Christmas. Man, flashing back hardcore to my childhood with some of these titles!
The Bible Adventure titles 👏😍

When you get your museum idea up and running, I will be one of the first in line to buy a ticket. Love the videos & keep up the great work.
I love the MegaDrive ,( I'm in Ireland), great collection, and you ran through it. This deserves an hour video🤗
Favs as a kid were the golf games, and kid camelion!

Dune - The battle for Arrakis, Jurassic Park - Rampage Edition, Pitfall - The mayan adventure, Demolition man, Fifa 99. Most hours spend was on Dune
Having a complete anything is insane.
The sega genesis was my first game console. My family had a nintendo entertainment system but the genesis was the first one that was my own. Love the boxes. Nice sega Genesis collection John Hancock I'm amazed
Mutant league football and hockey, streets of rage collection and NBA jam some of my favorites.

Very very cool to see it in reality
The magic school bus I want to have it in my collection
Awesome collection! Thanks for sharing !!!!
Cool Spot 4 the Sega Genesis
To name a few personal favorites from back in the day: Ghouls N' Ghosts, Golden Axe, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Streets of Rage 2. Later I discovered other great titles, approximately 80 top Genesis games altogether, less than 1/7th of the total library, and unfortunately a portion of the 80 were also available on the SNES which more often than not were superior ports in the graphics and sound departments.
Ive got a complete US set games for all sega systems. I wish i had room to display it like that.
cody I've got 2 special need kids, so I dont have time to put in to my games as much as I would like, I do have a GoFundMe but it's for my 2 girls, all I do is occasionally stream my Saturn collection trying to beat them all. But not enough to make any money. But thanks for the the encouragement!
I love Dune and the strike series I played those for hours and the holyfield boxing
Streetfighter 2, sonic and tails, streets of rage, toe jam and Earl 2
You listened to our request! Thank you thank you thank you! This collection is a-m-e-z-i-n-g! As a sega kid back in the 90s this was a dream!
your dream came true, support a museum. thanks. my favorite genesis title at this moment is judge dredd i think its better than the snes because you can see more of the world and they chosen a better color design, also i like the music better!!
😯 Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing? How did I not know about this I need to get that
Genesis games I played back in the day (was an SNES fanboy, FYI):
Sonic 1-3
NFL Football 94 starring Joe Montana (lots of memories playing with my dad)
Cool Spot
Aladdin
Flashback
A little bit of Street Fighter 2 to see if it was good (it is, but still played the SNES version)
Xmen 1 and 2
Virtua Racing
Sonic CD (needs Sega CD, but counting it)
Mortal Kombat on Sega CD (could never find it and had to rent it)
Games I wish I played back in the day, cause I didn't know how much better it was than the SNES counterpart:
Earthworm Jim
Captain America and The Avengers
Contra
Rocket Knight
Very cool. Love the Genesis. Hope they have yours or a similar collection on display at the midwest gaming classic in April.
AMAZING - SEGA RULES ! I bought my Sega Genesis from Toys r Us way back in 1989. Back then I was deciding in between buying the Genesis or a Turbografx 16. Really cool John!! I hope your museum becomes a reallity soon!! so you can display all of your great collection. I hope I can visit it someday!!!
All three streets of rage games for the Sega Genesis complete is worth lots of $$$
Impressive. Maybe someday!!
This is amazing! I love seeing your collection displayed like this. It's paradise!
Cool. Hard to choose a favorite. Mega Turrican, Sonic 2 and MUSHA, Wonderboy, Toejam & Earl, oh so many. For those who may think that my list is "young minded", im 29 lol Sega Genssis came out a year before I was born haha.
Thank you for sharing that amazing collection John!! 👍
Golden Axe II all day long!
Great to see a fleeting glimpse of Techno Cop there. One of my all time favs no one ever talks about. Cheers for the 'tour' there John.
Some many Genesis games that start with a "W".
Hyperstone heist and james pond! So much nostalgia..
Starflight I wanted so much to beat that game
Love it man!!!
John,
I have a small issue with the start of the collection....My sega collection starts with 007 James Bond: The Duel...3 Ninjas is 2nd.
Lol.
Love it!
Thank you for sharing this, It was incredible to see in person!
Great Video! Love them all. Quick question...how many official US titles were there released?
Dude, those display cases are phenomenal. Ecco the Dolphin:Tides of Time was one of my all time favorites nobody gives any love to.
Robocop vs Terminator!!!! Love that game
Thank you for getting me back to the Days of this great Console. My Memories are full of spending Days and Nights with Sonic, Streets of Rage 1 - 3, Eternal Champions, Landstalker, Phantasy Star 3. Loved it😍
Fantastic. A hand-me-down model 2 Genesis was my first system and I've been gaming ever since
That must be a pretty amazing feeling when you have complete strangers that share a love of video games asking with people who don't know much and everything in between look at your collection. I can only imagine how the museum will come out.
Absolutely epic!!! Great job !! 🙌
What a cool collection! What fun it would be to sit with a Dr Pepper and a big bag of Doritos and play with that Genesis collection. Congrats John!
My favorite Genesis game is either Shining Force 1 or 2.
Very cool collection John. Keep up the great work.
BLADES OF VENGEANCE
Amazing collection. Lots of time and money on display. Many great games on the Genesis.
Madden 93 was the best! Still had the ambulance too I believe. Lol “He got up looking out his ear hole” lol
Still have the 93 poster you’d get with the send in card.
Thank You John for sharing with us
Just wonderful !!!
How many games make up a complete USA genesis collection?
Would you be interested in buying a super rare Sega item?
I won the Sega 60th commemorative medal, there’s only 10 in the world!
It was a prize for completing the Sega Earth Ufo Catcher.
No thank you but thanks for the offer.
Pure awesomness.. i love sega so many memories from back in the day.. thanks for sharing so cool to be able to show your complete sega genesis collecton to the world.. in such a cool place.. big LIKE.. see you.. :) :D
What an incredible library the Mega Drive has. What I really miss about this era of gaming, is the good licensed games.
Toe jam and earl alone makes the genesis better than the snes.
Was awesome to see this in person. Seemed like the biggest year yet!
I didn’t see boogerman that was my favorite genesis game
I loved klax and joe Montana sports talk football. They came with my genesis when I got it and I played them to death. Until I got mortal kombat.
Streets of Rage 2 is definitely my favorite Genesis game!!!
Any MegaDrive exclusive titles that was never released for the Genesis?
My favourite memory is when one of my brothers friends would bring over his Turbo Grafx-16 on the weekends and we'd take turning playing our Sega Genesis and his Turbo Grafx-16.
Holyy moly that is sweet 😍😍
You have awesome Sega Genesis complete collection. 😉👍
