GOODBYE TINY POP... | Why Is It Leaving?

- After 20 years, it seems that TINY POP is waving goodbye to traditional television...
As the move of channels to online/digital platforms continues, children's television keeps being shifted to the wayside. But is this move for Tiny Pop actually a good thing? Or is it the latest casualty in the long line of children's channels moving away from traditional broadcasting?

im gonna miss tiny pop. it gave me the best memories i ever had in my childhood in 2014/15.
it had the best shows that i enjoyed such as mlp, clifford the big red dog, milly molly but my favourite kids show of all time that i and still enjoy to this day and forever is timothy goes to school, still gets me emotional everytime i hear the theme song.
I love Clifford the big red dog 🐶
Milly and molly, and Timothy goes to school were some of my favourite. That theme tune for both school also makes me bit emotional too
For those who grew up with Tiny Pop, my respect goes to you. Sorry to hear this Adam.😔
I remember in primary back in 2015 I watched it all the time, I'm 15 now this is actually sad.
@pixeldubsofficial Sorry for this loss. If I grew up with Tiny Pop, i would be heartbroken.😔
Pop and Tiny Pop used to play music videos as did its predecessor Toons and Tunes.
I remember watching VJ show and Timothy goes to school, ahh, good times!
Seemed inevitable. I can't imagine Tiny Pop's viewing figures to be anything spectacular, probably lower than CBBC is now. I can't even watch Tiny Pop cus I don't live in an area with a local TV channel, which is a bit of a misfire because it limits who can watch the channel. Did I watch Tiny Pop? Yeah, of course I did. Do I watch it now? No, I'm 17 years old. The moment I saw Cocomelon on that channel, I knew they had fallen from grace.
I live in an area that doesn't have Tiny Pop as well. Freeview in my area is rubbish due to poor aerial reception and I barely get any channels. I'm looking forward to the launch of Freely as it will allow me to fix my Live TV and my poor aerial. I used to watch Tiny Pop in the mid 2010s and lost the channel on my TV in 2018 when they changed the channel number from 126 to 206.
I also saw Cocomelon on the Tiny Pop TV Guide a few years ago and I couldn't help but say "Oh No" because I don't like Cocomelon either.
No bgfd
I knew the guy who made the Pop channels. I'm surprised they lasted this long to be honest, as they were some of the last new kids channels ever made in the UK outside of content for toddlers.
OHHH YESSSS
Who is the guy that made the pop channels because I wish I met and I want to thank him for making my childhood
@@ChichiChelseaftw I don't know.
@@ChichiChelseaftwI moved away from near where he lived a long while ago sadly.
The one show I remember from Tiny Pop was one called "Woolamaloo". It was like a British "Sesame Street" with colourful puppets living in this village where they would get up to various mishaps. The presenter was a sort of Margot Robbie-esque Barbie girl named "Bonny" (by that I mean the likeliness is uncanny, Margot in "Barbie" was spitting image of "Bonny"), and the puppets consited of two yellow mittens running a market, an aqua boot who was the king, and a scarf and a hat called Bish and Bosh who used to arrive in their red truck to do various jobs.
Does anybody else remember this?
I definitely do! I think the show might be considered lost media because all I found was just the first episode of the series and that’s it! It doesn’t have any dvds, a Wikipedia page and the IMDb page doesn’t even have a summary of of the show
@@gojirafan0577 I mean, it was very obscure. It only just sprang back to my mind when I saw Barbie. Margot Robbie was gorgeous, but I could not stop thinking about Bonny from "Woolamaloo" whenever she was on. Like I said, the likeliness was absolutely uncanny. If you've seen "Barbie", you'll probably know what I mean.

This is a real shame, in my opinion - Tiny Pop was my favorite children's channel around 2005 to around 2011, and I have nostalgic memories for it. It had some shows that I loved, and still do (it never really felt like a "pre-school" channel to me, despite being one, but I've since realized that most pre-school shows aren't that different to "during-school" shows, so I just... didn't notice.)
I get that it will exist as streaming, and will try to see if I can watch it that way, but I don't think this should be done - even if streaming is the main thing now, they should keep everything else (the same as how physical media should still exist, despite streaming existing) because people have preferences. I like streaming, and I like have shows there to watch at any time when I feel like it, but I also just like putting the TV on, and letting the channel decide.
Kids TV channels are just now falling off bro I’m afraid like I think pop max or pop are gonna shut down idk about cartoonito or Cartoon Network Uk and boomerang Nicktoons Nickelodeon

So sad. Tiny Pop was a great channel, especially in the 2000’s and and early 2010’s. I will definitely miss Tiny Pop.
They’ve realised it was a big mistake and now it’s back.
I was born in 2008 and to see all these channels closing down makes me quite sad, I used to watch Tiny Pop when I was little and I remember watching stuff like Timothy Goes to School and some others. I'm turning 16 in July
My nephew watches Tiny Pop and before it was even mentioned of moving to online, I took a guess in mid 2023 that it was gonna happen as it kept on promoting the Pop Player constantly
I always enjoyed watching this channel during the late-2000s and early-2010s. Madeline, Strawberry Shortcake, Timothy Goes to School, Billy, Milly Molly, Numberjacks, Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs, Care Bears, and so fourth. And within more recent times I got to enjoy watching Care Bears: Unlock the Magic as well.
The CSC/Sony/Narrative children’s channels were always great places for shows that the major UK children’s networks rejected. DIC Entertainment shows were common, and I mean really common.
Numberjacks?!
I remember when they showed music videos such as:
Teletubbies - Eh-oh
Bob the Builder - Mambo No. 5
Aqua - Barbie girl
What mambo no.5
I watch the og but never heard of that.
Great pity children's TV has gone this way, in the 70s you could watch children's TV on BBC 1 and Itv on Saturday morning have your dinner and then out to play when Grandstand/World of Sport was on. Where we lived we could get 3 Itv regions and there would be different programmes on each of them, what a choice!!!
What amazes me about British TV is that they were able to create a true, free to air platform that was equivalent to American basic cable, but unlike cable, all you needed was an antenna and a Freeview box and you're all set. American ATSC digital TV isn't the best. Stations have very limited bandwidth and can only run 3 HD channels at the most, with any remaining subchannels being very compressed standard definition. Broadcasters could have utilized this to launch similar kids channels like Tiny Pop, but most of them never did. A few did launch though. Some like PBJ failed within a few years, but others, such as Qubo lasted from 2007 through 2021. The reason Qubo died is it got a new corporate owner, and they decided to throw kids programs to the wayside and use it's space to increase distribution of digital networks it already owned, which mostly consisted of courtroom coverage or Westerns. Any kids programming on American OTA TV now is mostly from PBS Kids. Most PBS member stations air a 24/7 PBS Kids channel on one of their subchannels, but because of our poor choice of digital TV systems, you'll be lucky to get it in HD.
Bring back TCC 😊 and the extremely cheesy presentation ❤ The idea of a 5pm channel close today would be unthinkable 😮
What's TCC. Also they ain't gonna just close the channel at 5pm as if nothing else will happen within these few hours.
@@mrjta4087TCC was also known as The Children’s Channel a very early networking Europe but mostly UK & Ireland plus Nordic Counties. Closed down very suddenly in 1998 but laboured on till 2000, on a odd tape loop 🔂 They as a channel time shared with The Family Channel after 5pm which turned into Challenge TV and that channel fully took over turn. At that time their was only very limited channel capacity on the satellite medium, a good few channels timeshared Nick was 7pm with a swap with paramount comedy which was later Comedy Central. Cable companies liked the set up they could offer more channel options on very limited bandwidth by splitting outputs to suit themselves.
@@mrjta4087From Wikipedia: The Children's Channel, also known as TCC, was a British-based pan-European children's television channel in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which was owned by Flextech in London, England, UK. It began broadcasting on the original Eutelsat satellite on 1 September 1984.
On 3 April 1998, the original pan-European operations of The Children's Channel on Eutelsat's Hot Bird both unexpectedly and silently closed after 14 years. Ratings had fallen massively due to competitors Nickelodeon UK, Cartoon Network Europe, Disney Channel UK and Fox Kids UK launching within three years of each other. These launches had reduced TCC's viewer share to 0.2% by its closure. The exodus of teen programmes to Trouble only accelerated its decline. Flextech officially stated that it only wished to focus on the teen market, and there were "so many other channels designed for [TCC's former target audience]". After the closure, Trouble's hours expanded to start at 7.00am. Upon the closure of the pan-regional TCC Europe channel, Cable & Wireless carried the localized TCC Nordic feed for a few months due to the company's anger at the closure of TCC at such short notice. On 5 October 1998, it was taken off the service and its slot was filled by Fox Kids.

I have a video premiering tomorrow night on how TV here in Britain is becoming a hot mess, I especially feel the BBC are wrong to go about closing CBBC and for Tiny Pop to go online only is very foolish of Narrative! It puts more of the channel’s shows in danger of becoming lost media and under 5s are a demographic not so likely to know how to use the internet, let alone safely! At this point, I feel that TV here in Britain is in DIRE need of a reboot, this Cost of Living Emergency is making things less and less affordable, more ISP price hikes are on the way and Britain is becoming more and more a country where the internet is a requirement to do ANYTHING! The only winners in such a scenario are the government and tech companies! Can you imagine not being able to leave the house without your phone? Do you want all your online activity tracked? No wonder I’m nostalgic for the 90s and even (to a lesser extent) the 2000s, despite how bad things were on my end for most of the latter decade! We CANNOT let TV go online-only, I suggest joining the Broadcast 2040+ campaign! Also don’t forget to watch my CBBC video premiering tomorrow at 8pm!

@@SuperNinjaUK didn’t need to pay for that
@@SuperNinjaUK but pop channels are free and they where really good back in the day idk what’s happening to kids tv channels now bro there starting to dispear and fade away there will be a time in Uk we won’t have Cartoon Network or boomerang
Man, gonna miss Tiny Pop, I still remember watching it during my childhood, and just like Pop, there were a lot of great shows. I never looked it as a pre-school channel during my childhood compared to CBeebies & Nick Jr (I did think that as I got older thou). I'll still remember the shows they aired during the late 2000s such as Strawberry Shortcake & Timothy Goes to School. Although if I were to choose, Pop is still the better one.
Honestly thought Pop Max was gonna disappear before Tiny Pop did, so I am surprised by this news.
Don’t forget shows on tiny pop like milly molly my little pony maya the bee roli polli Oli super why
R.I.P Tiny Pop (2004-2024)
You do realize that the Tiny Pop channel is not fully dead right? It's just the linear channel that's going.
Yes we know!😊
Nah Milly Molly and Timothy Goes to School were the SHIT. So upset this channel’s closing down.
