- It's finally happened! After the BBC introduced its new corporate logo in 2021, gradually we've seen all the main properties under the Beeb adapt and change to this new look. For CBBC and CBEEBIES, they stuck with what they had, but after some new leaks have been discovered, it seems we have been our first look at what's to come for the BBC's two children's channels!
Are the new designs good or bad? What does this mean for the two channels? All and more will be discussed, so come and join in!

The old Cbeebies and 2007 CBBC logo is just too good
Especially the CBeebies logo, too iconic and was just a part of the memory

The new CBBC logo just seems too soulless, and I think they should have aimed to make it more vibrant and lively, being a kids channel still. It's nice to see that the CBeebies logo has some flair to it, it's more round and squishy and I like that. I just hope the idents make up for it.
But hey! At least they wouldn't be as blank as its 1997 logo
They don't care about CBBC anymore, they're planning to wind down the service due to budget constraints, so why take the effort to make a good logo for it.
The CBeebies test site still has the yellow bugs, so that indicates that they aren't going anywhere

The new CBBC logo is everything good about the brand identity. I mean, we don’t know, the idents will be great. And we hated the old logo. Let’s look at this at another lot, shall we?
I remember when the CBBC website had a game where you could use pre-existing clips to create your own logo sequence, and sometimes they'd be shown on the channel. Good times.

I do really like the 2016 logo, I think that it really fits the whole abstract social media-esque design that the mid 10s had going on, it's instantly recognisable and the idents look really good.
Sure, as an 11 year old I was sceptical of the change, just waking up one morning to find my favourite channel looking completely different, but the design definitely won me over.
This rebrand... it's just completely devoid of creativity and I absolutely hate it. The current design is pretty clever and I definitely believe it can stand the test of time, so getting rid of that for what's essentially a font is mind boggling to me.
Still, at least the upcoming idents and HQ design will be interesting to see.
I know it's really trivial and not something to get annoyed about at all, but CBBC is incredibly nostalgic to me and a lot of others, so it's just kinda sad to see stuff you remember get replaced, but inevitable, I s'pose.
I was 8 when the 2016 logo came out, I'm now 14 and I'm turning 15 in July.

@Alfie Stewart, I'll have you know that CBBC was fantastic between 1997 and 2002, it's been downhill ever since.

I think the reason why the cBeebies blobs lasted so long is because they almost predicted the emoji. The only difference is that the blobs now have less of the chaotic 2000's aesthetic so are more uniform.
Things change… 2002 and 2007 era of Cbbc was my era and those logos and idents stuck with me for a long time.

@@AdamMartyn I do find it odd that they are doing this because of the ads on the Main BBC channels for CBeebies ( you’ve got this but we’re when you need us) is the motto
CBBC doesn't seem very creative but I take back what I think I said earlier about CBeebies. Maybe having more plain text will aid in letter recognition? I just was scared they were taking the yellow blobs entirely. However, if they keep them as shown here then it's probably an okay rebranding!
4:14 I never truly realised how dire the early cbbc idents were, it's really bad until you get up to the green blobs
@the Well that's where You are wrong, You are in the minority and no one is ever going to agree with you EVER, the idents from 1985 until 2002 were the best ever, including the Yellow & Black idents, the green blobs were just awful and rubbish, and that's not an opinion, it's a fact.
When I were a lad we had no CBBC channel. Just Philip Schofield for an hour or so a day.
Fun fact: the Schofield centre in Leeds is named after Philip who was, in 1735, found hatching from a giant egg in a newly formed crater on the site where the retail centre now stands.
Honestly, these two logos have the same problem as many company logos have, nowadays. Overly simplistic to the point of lacking style & creativity!

I think the CBBC logo is definitely an improvement from their current one. The animations were funky and all, but if you have to decypher a logo in order to read it, then that's a problem. This certainly isn't my favourite of CBBC's logos - the 2007 one is my fav. But I'm glad to have something I can read, again.
I think similarly of CBeebees. Those blob characters have been there for two decades - it's about time for a change/
I also like it how both logos use rounded variations of the Reith typeface so that they're consistent with the BBC brand but also more kid-friendly.
Like you though, I definitely think we need to wait for the idents before we can judge these properly.
I'd say the 2016 rebrand works because it's an icon primarily, a colourful symbol that you immediately associate with the channel.
It defeats the purpose of a logo to me if it's literally just the word, devoid of character and charm (though that's subjective of course). Will have to wait and see the actual rebrand before I judge too hard, but first impressions, not good.
@@LexVanguard2004 that’s fair enough. I agree, the 2016 rebrand had a great colour palette. And I have to praise it for being a lot more gender-neutral - even though 2007 is my fav, I do think it was a bit too “masculine”. I just wish I could read it.
Speaking as a professional graphic designer, I’d perhaps scramble the letters a little bit. Rotate them all to be different angles and also slightly different sizes. Perhaps create some variations where they’re scrambled slightly differently. That would bring a lot more playfulness to the new logo, which is what it’s lacking so far.
@@CharlestonRat Definitely agree with your suggestions, in a sense it's what they did with the 2007 one (my favourite as well, that was my era) and the different fonts really sort of emphasise the "rule-breaking and random" aspect of its identity.
They work really well and now you've raised it, I feel like that is what this one's missing.

Looks very 2020’s BBC but I prefer 1990’s BBC. I prefer the old logos anyways
I Hate These Minimalistic Rebrands that all these corporations Are Going Through. It Just Sucks away all the joy and fun out of the Main ‘feel’ of the channel. Definitely going Down On My Top 10 Worst Rebrands List.

I have a feeling that they're rebranding in this way because they're shifting to a digital focus. You want higher legibility for use on smaller screens. It does feel a bit misguided to bring the same philosophy to kids tv, but given that CBBC is at the vanguard of that digital shift now, i can understand the logic.

I love purple in general 💜 but I think it would be better to have lowercase letters. I prefer the softer, smoother look.
These new logos are... absolutely terrible. I get the CBeebies logo has been used non stop for 20 years, but you gotta realise just how iconic that logo is. It still holds up very well to this day. If they want change, I think they should try harder. Just the word CBeebies in a generic font isn't even trying. I do like the tiny details like keeping the yellow colour, some of the letters being slightly rotated etc. But still. The 2002 logo is a million times better.
CBBC on the other hand is a certified what in the actual hell from me. The 2016 logo, which did get negative reviews at first as you mentioned DID have effort put into this? This excuse of a logo? Just the word CBBC in a generic font. At least the 2007 and 2016 logos actually LOOKED good. Purple isn't even the colour CBBC is known for, they should have made it green.
Overall I hope these logos are just prototypes/placeholders and they'll never go on the air

I wonder if the CBBC Channel and CBeebies will have the chameleon branding background aside of the new logos, which include:
CBBC Channel: A dark blue colour mixed with turquoise.
CBeebies: A cyan colour mixed with green.
Spent far too long wondering what purple thing you were talking about as it’s definitely blue! Then I thought maybe it was my screen. But I screenshot the logo and it’s official name is ‘Persian Blue’ so that settles it 😅 definitely blue rather than purple.
look this will be the last logo refresh before the move online, so i like it - nothing beats the 2007-2016 CBBC logo
Actually, Bluey is not from BBC. It's actually made for ABC (the Australian network, not the American network).
Even though at first glance these new logos don't have much to offer, I really hope their IDENTS don't end up being bland and generic, we already have people criticizing the ITV rebrand for feeling like their idents and logos look bland and generic.

Brand new look? More like _bland_ new look. I really liked the previous logos, as I grew up with them. I loved the playful look of the CBeebies logo which they’ve used since 2002. The vibrant, colourful design of CBBC feels like something a child would want to watch. Now, the logos just look like BBC Four.
They want to emphasize the corporate BBC logo instead of their respective branding logos as part of the rebrand in 2021. You also see that Children In need was used the new logo since 2022 and look similar to how CBBC and CBeebies logos today, written in BBC Reith Sans bold rounded.
@@ians4535 BBC Children in Need isn’t necessarily watched by children. However, brands like CBBC, CBeebies and CITV are watched by children all over the UK, if that the world. BBCCIN is a charity, on TV once a year, and the logo isn’t exactly always in the top left corner of your screen. CITV has kept a decent logo which is appealing to children since 2013 and personally, I’m happy with it. But BBC are removing childhoods and MeltLV. Those yellow blobs are now yellow squares and … eugh.

This is the worst new look for CBBC & CBeebies I’ve ever seen. Nothing beats the old Children’s BBC Logo these days.
I actually think the new CBBC logo is just a placeholder they did while the get the actual new logo ready.
I really like the 2016 logo, the colours give it so much more personality.
I was 8 when that logo came out, I'm now 14 and I will be 15 on the 5th of July. I think that the new logo isn't really as good as the 2016 logo, I understand why they changed it but it's a bit annoying how they didn't the other letters different colours like the 2016 logo.
I'm just hoping that the idents will be nicer than the new logo.
I know that something trivial isn't really something to get annoyed about, but the logos we have currently are classics (the 2016 logo doesn't feel as nostalgic as the logo before that but eh) and it's sad to see those 2 logos disappear, but sadly it's just the way things have to be.
I think a great addition to CBeebies when the new logo is out would be Bear in the Big Blue House, because it's a great show for autistic children and I heard before that CBeebies is also aimed at autistic children like me so I think Bear in the Big Blue House would fit the channel very well.
Cbeebies wouldn't dare to show anything that old. Channels like that don't care about old programming. They only care about the current and future shows. There's no chance they'd even show programmes from over 10 years ago or more that they produced themselves let alone ones from other production companies.

I think they could do with being more colourful as they're designed for kids' TV channels. You need to have that fun element for kids.
This minimalism trend has gone too far and has gone on long enough. Someone actually got paid for that!
As a graphic designer, it always makes me sad to see everything become reductive and minimal. When the BBC launched the new logos, I wasn't a fan of them and still am not a huge fan. Hate to think how much they paid for them.
It is a test site, the logo could be just a placeholder to conceal a new identity until launch
but then why would they bother with touching up the logo?

Well at least the logo is readable this time compared with the last logo but this new one is very dull in my opinion, maybe the idents themselves will make it look better.
@Adam Martyn You should be ashamed of yourself when you said that the 1997 logo wasn't interesting, well I'm gonna tell you now it was very interesting and it's the best logo that CBBC has ever had along with the brilliant Yellow and Black animations, and that's not an opinion, it's a fact.

The CBeebies logo is fine as is, just update the BBC blocks underneath. The CBBC logo, however needs an overhaul. However THAT is not it.

I really like the cbeeies logo actually, i'm glad they kept the yellow colour however the CBBC just looks weird in purple and it's not doing anything for me. You guys hated the 2016 logo? It's looks really nice, i thought that we liked it??!

It’s not just a test, I’ve just put CBeebies on the tv for my daughter and it’s thrown me off guard, I’ve grown up with CBeebies being as it has been for 21 years and now it’s gone 😢 end of an era (I’m getting old)
The blobs are still there, just modified and different shaped.

CBBC is like Amity. It went from green to purple (except in Amitys case, this was a good thing)
I love the old Cbeebies logo with all the old shows that I grew up watching on ABC Kids. Including:
1. Tweenies
2. Mister Maker
3. Grandpa in my Pocket
4. Brum
5. Teletubbies (original)
6. Pingu
@Seth Loves Fizz & Bella 2003 You do know that the Tweenies, Brum, Teletubbies and Pingu are all CBBC programmes, they're not CBeebies Programmes.

Finally the CBeebies preschool channel gets a logo change after 21 years!!!! Why did they take them so long????
KyleJBAwesomeness2001 I think it's took them a while because, the BBC thought they'd think keeping the CBeebies logo, the same as it is since 2002. And it's still a very successful logo look today. And the way the CBeebies words is shaped angled like a rainbow. It encourages little children to watch it.

Because there was no need. It was perfect.
Money and the fact that it may have been the case of "dont change what doesnt need fixing". CBBC got minor facelifts brandwise but because of the dramatic changes the BBC wants to make to its branding I say they probably thought its was time.

The new CBBC logo is colourless, if they'd changed to that in 2016 then it would have been different, that logo was only green (and black and white) but now children are used to an extremely colourful logo, I think its almost going "Oh no children don't need that, they can have the same as the adults" which is stupid! The Cbeebies one, I'm glad it's still the same yellow but the blobs have been on it for 21 years! They aren't seriously getting rid of them now?

The 2016 CBBC logo looked kinda decent whereas the purple one looks pretty much oversimplified

Watching this morning and my little girl just pointed out the new CBeebies logo and the blobs have now changed to yellow blocks now?? I think they changed everything this morning Wednesday 15th March as wasn’t like it yesterday?? Very odd as they spent lots of money on new blobs in CBeebies land at Alton Towers? Unless they gonna change that area as well at the park logo etc??

I found these logos to be so rubbish and boring that I set up a campaign to get the BBC to phase them out and replace them with another new set (like with the time when ITV1 rebranded twice in 2006)
Why's it purple? Wasn't CBBC's theme colour green? Even the 2016 one had that green. CBeebies still has it's yellow so I'm confused.

@@YoshisIslandFan2 yeh but bbc news, bbc parliament and bbc one all have red logos. youd disagree but if bbc news, one and parliament get a red background and stuff why cant we have cbbc go as dark green. pink was recognisable for bbc three. that and also in their presentation they have that purple

@@julianhanc8272 na its mostly red. the visuals itself sees it as a light red pink colour but really it is red.
They're actually using purple and green. The colour scheme is basically an inverted version of BBC Three's.

The new identifiers are a bit crap. For example, the BBC News one is slightly confusing when you get a notification in the app. Certainly when it first changed anyway.
I love the new CBBC logo, and I love the fact that its similar to the 1997 logo, it beats the 1991 logo, it beats the 2002 and 2005 logos, it beats the 2007 logo and it definitely beats the 2016 logo
Just awful. I have two young kids and in a world of UA-cam, Netflix, Disney+ and more they are spoilt for choice. BBC should be doing everything they can to get their attention and instead we get this dull effort. I don't think 4-year-olds care much for minimalist cohesive de-branding?

With the cbeebies logo I feel like they have just taken the main three minions and put them in cbeebies form. Think about it: The minions in Despicable me and Cbeebies look the same, so could cbeebies try and be ripping off Illumination?
