IRL Anders Lasson during his commando training in Scotland, stalked and killed a deer with his commando knife. His skill at sneaky raiding was legendary, often carrying just a luger pistol and knife.
He was the most highly decorated commando. VC, MC with 2 bars.

Guy Ritchie is just simply the best director ever. I love everything he does. Mix that in with Henry Cavill, Alan Ritcheson and a story based on the beginning of the SAS and I am all in.
Now that Cavill is in the Ritchie universe he really needs to be in a British gangster film
I've read the book it is based on, and it is more of the beginning of the SBS.

Only a couple of words but a revelation after seeing him as All American Reacher. Like the throwaway humour in the scene. Impossible for me to tell the difference but accent is Danish as the actual character he is portraying was a Free Danish soldier

Anders Lassen was known to have delivered combat reports which basically would read "Went ashore, killed Germans, fucked off".
Reaching the rank of major at age 24 and earning a bucket full of medals before his death in Italy shortly before the end of the war, Anders Lassen was the only foreigner during WWII who received the Victoria Cross.
I read the book. There's enough in there to make four or five movies if this succeeds

@@piyam5948 they look like USSR binoculars BPC4 8x30 KOMZ. They were made in the 80's, the center hinge in WW2 binoculars had a sweeping hump like a bell curve between the barrels.

@insertjjs how odd, Mad Jack was known for doing fun things like carrying a bow and a sword into battle. He killed the one and only Nazi in ww2 to die by arrow that Jack fired from a bell tower and then, vastly outnumbered, helped capture a larger force of freaked out enemy soldiers that the Nazi officer he killed was leading. He was the only survivor of a battle even though he stood out in the open, on top of a hill playing bagpipes like a madman, he survived until getting hit by an artillery shell, jt just knocked him out. He was saved from execution for being a commando because the Nazis thought he was related to Winston Churchill. How the hell no movies were made of this guy I never know. That's why I assumed it was who Henry was playing since he was the only British soldier to never carry a gun but always carried a bow and sword.

The book this is based on is quite good.

Fun fact Alan character is based off of the real soldier Mad Jack Churchill
Partly on Churchill (who carried bow and even a sword into battle!) but the actual character he is portraying was a Danish sailor recruited by the British. Anders Lassen fought throughout the War mainly in the British SAS/SBS before getting killed in the last weeks of the War.
Fun Fact... he's literally playing Anders Lassen VC.

Alan Ritchson is playing a real character, Major Anders Lassen who was a real badass.
Most amazing thing was that using a bow requires dedication to the art, and Ritchson created a character that is dedicated to it, if only it is a movie
The character is real. Major Anders Lassen (SOE, SSRF, SAS, SBS) did petition the Ministry of Defense to use a bow during commando raids but while the MoD did provide him with a bow and arrows, they strictly forbade him from using it in combat.

It does appear base on the trailer to be very loosely based on the British SOE Operation: Operation Postmaster, and the main characters were real people, Gus March-Phillipps OBE and Anders Lassen VC.
In fact, Ian Flemming was involved in planning this mission and later used traits from 4 the men depicted in this movie (Gus-Phillips, Lassen. Appleyard, Hayes) to create the persona of James Bond.
