Although a little outdated I find this video amazing and loaded with tips and tricks for using your own samples inside FL Studio. Thanks Ace / Justin !
I never read the manual. I think it helped me out in that way, because now I like to try every button and knob to see what they do, and every once in a while you stumble on something great. While we're here, the Edison has a button in the rightmost position which you can simply drag to a channel. Even easier than my method for making sample channels or filling a pre-existing slicer.
HOLY SHIT most of the time when i watch an FL tut. i come to the conclusion that i know everything there is to know about it... but i've just watched two of yours and it's like finding a second living room in my house i never knew was there
incidentally, the crowd coming in at the end of my intro was NOT an automated effect. I used a peak controller on my voice with a slow decay, and mapped the inverse log to the volume on a "cheer" track that kept looping. Great production trick.
If you have an outside app that you really enjoy working with, you can use that - but I like being able to audition samples through effects, in real time. Other people have done vids that show HOW to record voice/line in. Tips: Always do several recordings. Use reverb if your room doesn't have any. EQ your voice so it mixes without dominating. Organize your WAV folders.
good tutorial man , same reason i always use FL is because its so quick & efficient to use in nearly every aspect. In Edison u can also set markers(slices) for your samples & drag them into FL Slicer & the markers u made should appear in the Fl slicer, also u can drag samples out of edison if u click & drag the very end button on the right of edison. :P
Ps: that 'optimization' part at the end i think might be unnecessary, surely FL Studio should have that as a built-in feature where it dumps to disk before playing? Could be wrong...
Mic's are Mono, bro! To make it into a stereo track, you'll find a knob on the mixer insert just above the "Panning" on the right side, called "Stereo Separation". Turn it to 100% Merged, and you will now have a L/R track.
[7:20] "Great way to optimize CPU overhead when your maxing it out." *clears throat* FISH!!!! *back to tutorial* Very informative and interesting tutorial as always Ace. I watched some episodes specifically about Sytrus along with this and just wanted to tell you that you've helped me a ton from where I was half-an-hour ago. Thanks for the informative tutorials!
use the "EDISON" plugin. It goes onto a mixer insert. It's brilliant. All you need is a mic and to route the mic to that insert. You will probably see a box that says "not connected" at the top of the mixer. Change that.
I'm getting more experimental in the Drum&Bass genre, now that I can say I've actually heard some good D&B. They love it out here and it's getting into my blood as well. Mostly, it's given me the room to breathe. I don't feel threatened or crowded out here, either by politics or people. That's the real difference. It allows me to... forget. My later songs seem to be wistful, perhaps, because of it.
Well, the Slayer2 instrument is ok- not GREAT, but it also comes with that Slayer2 FX plugin which is basically just the amp/FX/cabinet effects. But it's got some true simulators of lots of the original pedal effects (chorus, tremolo, delay, compression sustain, wah etc.) and it comes with a ton of presets (which let you choose your effects to match a genre, band, or era. ("Power 70's" is my favorite)
Hey I just rocked a successful guitar recording session using edison. Sounds nice. Have you tried using the Slayer2 FX plugin? It can make your guitar sound like just about any famous lead/rhythm artist.
Odd. In your FL Mixer can you change the MASTER Output to different settings? On mine I only have a stereo and mono pair, but with your many inputs/outputs you may be able to route your output to something other than the 6 tone? If not, try to just run the guitar to your "Line In" or "Microphone". I used this setup on a laptop to do "Negative Intrusion" and it sounded fine.
I don't have the Slayer2 FX as I'm not too big on the vst inst. My 1/4 inch to USB device uses a pretty nice sounding virtual amp program (gearbox) with lots of pedal and amp sims, but i think i will check it out now that you mention it
i don't know if i have any anywhere near as the ones you've come up with.. but if you plan on doing another tutorial for FL i can def tell you a problem i've been having with mine. basicly, i can't record guitar into edison while the drum pattern is going, or else it picks up the drums too. been trying to get around it for months, learned a lot about drivers though. oh and Advanced midi programming 101 would kick ass too
i figured out the buttons and knobs part (the reason the manual is useless) where your tutes are cool is the parts people don't think about like diagonal piano roll cuts and sample drag&drops. i wouldve never figured that out. anyway im def going to check into that edison tip-does it still auto save? i know it has to have a source but i hate cleaning up after a dead end project so its wishful thinking lol
Great! When you'll search for beatgenerals in youtube they've got Fl Studio lessons demonstrating how you can make beats, mix beats, master beats, etc for all people requiring some additional help or simply desiring to progress!
I've done a small bit of sampling, which I used for certain melodies in FL Studio 8. I used Audacity, because it's free (there are much better programs out there).
i think i just figured it out.. for the windows mixer i have line6 as my recording input and my sound card as my output, BUT for FL I also had to have ASIO4ALLv2 as my master output, and when you use that it has a button where you have to disable the sound card in and the line6 out but have Both drivers turned on. then i had to select line6 in for my mixer.. i need to write that down lol
Great concept ace,but when i drag a sample into sytrus it plays a preset instrument. Is there anyway i can drop my own sample replacing .a preset instument? I know the vst harmor which comes with fl10 dose this, but th effects are much more difficult than the matrix grid on sytrus.
Bring up your Windows mixer, and choose "Properties" from the options menu. Check the "Recording" radio button. Press OK. You'll see all your recording sources. I'll give you 10 to 1 that you're using "Wave out mix". Switch it to "Microphone" and it'll work. Post back with results for the others, ok?
hm it says cd player, line in & microphone are checked.. that's on my internal driver, but really for recording i switch over to my line 6 tone port anyway..and if i do that then my line six also outputs the sounds from Fl Studio so it's still recording FL instead of just the guitar. it connects via usb, but i could try the spdif or whatever & see if it makes a difference
Ace, I have a question, how did you get your mic levels even? Every time I try to record my kids singing it only gives me levels on the left but not the right I always have to pan more right before they start singing? I don't have a very expensive mic but I have a really good pre amp Joe Meek MQ3...could you give me a bit of direction? Much appreciated
@linkinparkMikeShinod I see exactly what you're talking about...& I unchecked it but it's still happening, & it isn't only with samples, it happens with everything, snares, kicks, drums...like when I open the view playlist thing i can put a part where there should be no sound...like the beat is supposed to drop(quit) but it still goes on and on and loops itself continuously even after i uncheck use loop points on everything
dont know if my comment came out... but here we go again .. at the time 7:24 seconds.. anothing screen came up on FL and I wanna know how to get that screen also how you do the layout on that to make the tracks
well now i'm going to watch your sampling tutorial, i didn't know you could use the browser for chopped samples, all this time i've been highlighting, coping, opening new, then pasting, then saving, then importing lol.. So basicly that one tutorial is saving me about an hour of work.. i can't believe the included manual in my boxed version neglected so many important things, i should burn that thing lol its strictly for noobs
how do i get sytrus to play the extracted slice when i hit a midi key? cos all i get is hi pitched noise and it's not even the slice i dropped into sytrus
@dav1nl33 I've noticed that it only does that when I'm using the 1-bar overdub recording Edison Mixer thing...but that's the only way I know how to sample...is there another way to sample because when I use 1 bar overdub I'm having the problems i'm telling you about currently and i don't have a clue how to fix it...So basically what I'm saying is I need another way to sample besides Edison unless I can find a way to fix the problem Edison is causing
hey bro .. i am pretty new to mixing nd i m not a proffesional too. i just do it for fun. i m able to add a track to FL studio. i m able to produce a patterns but how do i add the patterns to the track?? and later how do i record and export the song???? plsss do help meeee
Hey, when I sample a song and I try to play it in Edison, no sound comes out....Got any idea's what im doing wrong? Also, a box at top of the mixer says "not connected", but when I try to connect it to something, all of my choices are: Not connected. Help?
Well i need help with this i know what im goin to tell you is simple but i just got a full version finally of fl studio 8 xxl producer edition. Well i can't get my my snare/clap to go tempo with my sample. Help me PLEASE!!!!!
When I press the ''Save audio clipboard to browser'', an error pops up and says that it can't create it because it can't find the directory. And there really isn't ....so what do I do? Help me, someone?
MAN I CANT SELECT WHAT I WANT TO SAMPLE!!! WHEN I HOVER MY MOUSE OVER THE AUDIO I GET A LITTLE CROSS ICON, NOT LIKE THE NORMAL MOUSE ICON THAT YOU GOT. DO I NEED TO SELECT A TOOL FIRST!!!???
I'm really stupid and inexperienced. 1) How do you record a sample from a song (one you haven't made just to be clear) 2) And is this program totally free? Does it come with a tutorial of its own?
@AcePincter @SampleSimple edison was working fine for me then i must have changed something and now i cant get it back i cant drag from edison like i was b4 it is not the freeze button can you please try to help me

you do my favorite FL tuts man, entertaining as well as informative. good work good work
I would have guessed Canadian. In any event your tutorials are awesome.
Keep it up Mr. Sphincter!
incidentally, the crowd coming in at the end of my intro was NOT an automated effect. I used a peak controller on my voice with a slow decay, and mapped the inverse log to the volume on a "cheer" track that kept looping. Great production trick.

by watching a few seconds of this tut video me and my accomplice made the sickest track i ever heard
GOOOD LOOOKZZZ!!!!
Ace, thanks. Just started my sampling and this helps out a lot.

This video is really beneficial... If you find beat generals in here they usually have a large amount of step by step tips on this though!
Your videos are well appreciated from even the far opposite side of the globe*greetingsfromscotland*, very ingenious and enlightening!

yeah, I make some fun mistakes every once in a while (at least once a tutorial) That fish has been my loyal wallpaper for 2 years now :)
You're welcome! I'd rather see people make music than war. Are you getting good information out of these?
Glad I could help in some obtuse way!

I actually really liked your lil song. Cool vibe! :)

Great tutorial. Thanks a bunch. Your voice sounds like Robert Rodriguez!
Very helpful, thanks!

time stretch or pitch your"sample"--im guessing it has a different beats per minute than your song- to match your song tempo-
how do i get sytrus to play the extracted slice when i hit a midi key? cos all i get is hi pitched noise and it's not even the slice i dropped into sytrus
