I had the same idea to extend the life of COVID N95 Masks… but no one listened. Of course, there’s a possible exposure when cleaning them… but the larger dust particles block the filter first. The smaller filters are far more expensive and time-consuming to make, so it makes sense. The way they’re made is by arranging small fibers in such a way as to create constraints on air particles but not air flow. So larger filters can use larger particles and there aren’t as many tight controls on manufacturing since it’s easier to test & verify that airflow exists. With smaller filters, changes to the process are more likely to result in blocked airflow.
2 years later, I'll add - put a little dessicant pack in with your mask in the ziplock bag to prevent mold/mildew due to humidity. You know, those things you get in retail boxes and meds that you probably throw away 😢.
You should check pricing, it's probably cheaper to use a 3M 501 and a 3M 5N11 that clip over. The you're using I believe IS a one time use, but ONLY when removed from the primary filter-- you CAN swap the dust filter on the twist on housing.
The 5N11s are for sure cheaper! The 501 + 5N11 combo is a good option, but for me, since there's so much surfboard foam dust in the room that I glass, the ease of dusting off some of the excess dust build up, + potentially less waste, I can use the pink 2097s for a little longer rather than change out the 5N11s more often🤙
When I went through tactical training in my survival class I was taught the way you just did that it can also block radiation in a nuclear crisis so this is vary well worth the money and it's a budget friendly way to prepare for a nuclear fallout my instructor was in the navy seals he used his 3M in combat and he says they are great for tactical situations
I think those adapters are technically single use and need to be replaced with the dust filter when it is used up. 3M say that reusing the adaptors could allow dust to be inhaled. That's why they come in packs of 20. The single ones for sale are just a scam basically. You can get an adaptor for 5000 series chemical filters that you can reuse with 5000 series shaped dust filters. It's called the 3M Filter retainer 501.
Yeah, I can see why they say they're single use, bc the snap on feature is super tough to get off and put on another one. But if there's any leakage, I'd think the vapor cartridge would catch it. The 501s are a good option too 🤙
The best all rounder is to get the 6006 cartridge plus P100 attched to it via adapter. This set up goes thru anything etc; any work u're doing, oil, dust, particles, paint or even covid-19 virus.. so far this is the best all rounder set up for me and according to my research.. 👍
thank you for this video. I'm from Vietnam and n my country, it have a lot of fake 3M mask. So i have research all day with english video to find out what kind of mask suitable for me to make epoxy resin. Kind of sad, i think most of people in Vietnam dont know how to protect their health while using fake mask (that cost $33 for full option - mask, filter, cartridge), and also because the auth mask quite expensive :( Anw, i will order 3M mask from China (it have cheaper price than amazon) and how glad that I know that 3M have adapter live you used in this video. (my english is not good yeah). So, thank you againnnn!!!
Thank you great ideas and always looking for improve protection when spraying home weed or bug killer . Used a similar mask when shopping because of covid a few times . Get a lot of funny looks .
Hi, thanks for the video, I just wanted to comment that if any oil based aerosol get into that 2079 you got to throw it after 40 hours or 30 days (based on manufactures recommendation). Not sure if you knew about that, so you must be sure of what you're working with to avoid that. Cheers
The adapters are only one time use, it's not to be put on and put off, check the 3M videos anda data, if you put on and put off it could leak and you don't have seal anymore
Thanks, I could see why, since the snap on feature is very hard to remove once you get it on there. But if there's any leakage under the 2097s, the vapor cartridge will hopefully catch it 🤙
Hey Dust and fumes! First off, i bought the 3M 60926 (gold colored) cartridge. Do you know if that is adequate for painting (regular household painting walls)? Also, under your description, i guess people were suggesting looking into the 3M 501 filter retainer, do you know how it works? I think it's a good option considering a 20pack of the 502 is almost $70 (and alot of people were saying it's one time use). With the filter retainer and replacements, are we able to just pop on and off the cartridge cover and replace it with the filter retainer and on intervals replace the cotton filter? If you don't have experience with it then I understand. However, for your setup, how often are you replacing the filter adapter? Im just worried because i'm planning on removing popcorn ceiling and this requires painting and the actual removal of potential asbestos containing popcorn ceiling. So, a setup like this would be very helpful if not life saving! Thanks in advance.
I think the 3M 60926 should be ok for painting vapors and popcorn ceiling dust. Here's what I found with the specs from 3M for the 60926 cartridges: www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/v000057497/ As for the 502 filter adapters, it allows you to add an additional particulate filter on top of your vapor cartridges. They say it's single use, and it is pretty hard to snap on and off, but in my experience (mainly surfboard building in dusty and fume-filled environments) they last at least the life of a couple of lives of vapor cartridges(40hours per set before changing out). The pack of adapters is pretty pricey bc it's probably mainly for contractors and others using lots of them for a team, but I have a link in the description box to single pairs on Amazon. For the 501 retainers (not adapters), I'd use them just for holding the P95 (thin) filters on top of the 6001 vapor cartridges if that makes sense. For my use, the P95 thin filters iare ok, but not as good as when I use the 502 adapters to mount a 6001+2097 on top. (All these model numbers I'm referring to are 3M). Hope this helps🤙
Hey! I'm pretty sure you can't smell it unless it creeps in through the rubber gasket where the mask is touching your face, I've found usually this happens if the mask isn't the right size for your face🤙🏽
Hello How are (Gas Cartridge Particulate 7093), (Multi Gas/Vapor Cartridge 60926) and (Organic Vapor Cartridge 60921) P100 Filters are different? Which should we use for better protection against covid?
There another adapter that's small and white that goes over your 6001 paint respirator it's basically a n95 that goes over your 6001 and there cheaper and easier that the adapter you showed
only 10 months late here… wondering if you are still selling any 3M respirator filter adapters???. I have a 3M Safety 142-6100 6000 Series Reusable Half Face Mask Respirator, Small.
Sir in my country these masks are of 2015 available and are not opened...but Google says they have 5 years of shelf life...so is it ok to buy? please help me
Hello, I am from Argentina but there is still the google xd translator I would tell you not to buy it since the 6200 or ----- series have rubber, that rubber like that of tires or shoe soles has a useful life time and then it cracks and transform slowly in to dust, they lost elasticity too, so if they are already 5 years old with what they cost they will not last long and you will have wasted money
@@VostockR wrong completely, it completely depends where its stored if it's stored inside and not exposed to the sun and heat it should be as good as new, I have 10 year old brand new 3M 7502 from 2009 from the H1N1 pandemic they are still working 100% just like new

The pink filter is like 100x more "filtering power" than the white 5N11. P95 vs P100. And it lasts a lot longer.

Yeah, not much, just getting the big surface particles off, doesn't hurt 🤷♂️
