Hi, this is a really good video to help choose a respirator. I was hoping that it would contain instructions on how to select the correct size and fit. I’m having a tough time finding one, other than a diagram for measurements. I seem to be on the edge of two sizes and need to make the correct choice. Thank you for all of this important information :))
I started out wearing a 3M large but medium was a much better fit for me. I wish I knew a surefire way to pick sizes but the only way I really could was to just try them out. Also while you are wearing it, it should fit tightly yet not too tight that it causes major discomfort. You should be able to move your head up & down, side to side without leaking air. To check that it fits properly, you can do what’s called a negative and positive pressure test to confirm it’s actually sealed to your face. There’s probably a bunch of videos on it, but here’s how I do it: I start by putting the mask on & snugging it up, then do the positive pressure test by placing a hand on the exhaust port in the front to block the airflow & exhale; the mask should be snug & no air escape around your cheeks & nose, if there are any leaks adjust the mask accordingly. Test this while looking straight forward, as well as with your head tilted up, down, and side to side. Next you’ll do the negative pressure test by placing your hands over the holes on the cartridges and inhaling. If you’re using the pink style filters, remove them and place your hands over the valve holes instead. The mask should suck tightly to your face when you inhale. Do the same thing tilt your head in each direction while doing the test & adjust for any leaks again and you’re all done. I don’t think the order in which you do them matters, but I do this every time I put it on to make sure it’s actually doing it’s job. Hope this helps you!!

But your best bet is to do some research on your own since this will make you more knowledgeable where if your friends and family ask you for recommendations you will be ready to help with your knowledge and understanding. Also research on doing positive and negative pressure test when wearing to see if it's seated properly by feeling and sensing if air is escaping through the seals but if you are correctly wearing it then the air cam only be allowed to enter and egress at the inlet and outlet valves - there are various YT videos by 3M and others showing respirator mask etiquette.

He completely glossed over the modeling community. Not all of us are painting t-shirts. It isn’t just water based acrylics and 2k clears that we use. We also spray solvent based acrylics, lacquers and enamels. In these cases a respirator is in order that has both particulate and carbon filters to remove airborne particulates and VOCs. And the reason you put your mask in a sealed container is because the carbon filters continue to remove VOCs out of the air even when not in use, and their lifespan will be shortened if constantly exposed to fresh air.

hello what kind of filter would you recommend for rustproofing. i currently use a 6800 full face mask with a 6001 and 5n11 pre filter. My fluid is non toxic and non hazardous but does create a large cloud of atomized fluid/droplets. so i need something that can handle large volume of droplets/atomized fluid. again the fluid itself is not harmful but having your lungs full of atomized fluid is the issue
We typically recommend a half or full face mask with essentially the same 6001 cartridge you're using. We carry the 3M 60921 which is the cartridge and the filter in one, for organic vapours and particulates. More info here > greggdistributors.ca/Safety/Respiratory/Cartridges-and-Filters/mmm60921
It depends on what you mean by atomized. If it's aerosols (this is what the definition is) or molecules. Aerosols are particulates, so particulate only filtration would be sufficient. Though you might want a surgical N95 or to use a hard shell filter because of all the liquid. If you want to protect yourself from the molecules then you should also use something with gas protection.
ACOATL just wash it off like you would do after each use. Dish soap and water and then dry. Keep in a large plastic zip lock bag and some dry towels to a sod any moisture. Wash of course with the filters removed and you can see the thin rubber/silicone flats that keep the breaths out moving out of the mask. With the filters off and the mask on you put the palms of your hand over the parts where the filter threads on an this is how you would check the fit of the mask.

Also while you are wearing it, it should fit tightly yet not too tight that it causes major discomfort. You should be able to move your head up & down, side to side without leaking air. To check that it fits properly, you can do what’s called a negative and positive pressure test to confirm it’s actually sealed to your face. There’s probably a bunch of videos on it, but here’s how I do it:
I start by putting the mask on & snugging it up, then do the positive pressure test by placing a hand on the exhaust port in the front to block the airflow & exhale; the mask should be snug & no air escape around your cheeks & nose, if there are any leaks adjust the mask accordingly.

Hi there! Thank you for this very informational video. 😊 I work with epoxy resin a lot. Can you please suggest on which filter works best with epoxy resin?

What would you recommend for a teacher who’s working in a classroom with poor air quality??
Video says it all. Remember though that when using the particulate filter that the written side faces inwards towards the face. However the respirator mask doesn't allow one to speak normally where the voice is muffled. However their are full respirator face mak that have a diaphragm that vibrates the voice better than through the plastic. But like how one teaches students to be self independent, research usually is the best course of action, since a reliance or a belief on other individuals knowledge may not get one the best answer possible.
@@eusebiou-say-bee-oh326 great response. You’d be an effective teacher. Although she asked a question that was already basically answered in the video, you responded in a positive way that was helpful while reinforcing self sufficiency and independence to think critically. A lazy teacher would have just handed out the answer but someone that cultivates the skillset of independence empowers students to be confident in knowing they’ll be able to figure out the solution 💪👍
@@0for30 Thanks for your assessment Matt. It's not everyday someone showers you with flowers so I deeply appreciate it. I feel everyone is a good teacher at some things and bad at others. We just forget that we have the might of thought and wisdom and so we usually just follow rather than think. But times are changing, so we might as well change with the times or be left in the dust. There are so many folks that are lost, and so many folks that are sweet. We can't really help folks out, but we can encourage those who are lost to think for themselves, this way they too can manage life better.
Anyways, take care friend. Here's hoping that everything good will turn up for you in these turbulent times. See you 😎🖖
The best particulate filters for that case are the 6035 FFP3 filters in Europe or the 7093 P100 filters in the US.

What is the purpose of the inhalation valve on some respirators?
We are not aware of a respirator with an inhalation valve. If there was an inhalation valve, it would negate the purpose of the filtering. Most, if not all, half and full-face masks do have an exhalation valve which aids in the process of removing your exhaled air.
@@GreggDistributorsLP They usually do have inhalation valves. They open when you breathe in so that air comes in from the filters and it closes when you breathe out so that the air goes through the exhalation valve and not the filters.

Life time of the filter ????
Sorry, there is no fixed answer to this question, it depends entirely on the conditions and can vary quite a bit.
I’m working with concrete, concrete pigment and titanium dioxide. I don’t want to use an n95. Should I use a cartridge or a the small pink filters. And which ones would work best?
I'm new to all of this and am a little confused. Can you use any of these filters with either mask type?
As long as it is the same brand of mask, the filters should work with any model, there are certainly exceptions to this, but this is usually the case.
From my understanding 3M uses what is called a bayonet style connection or insert which may be different from another brand like say a Honeywell repirator.
Are 3M masks and respirators safe? I have been using them for quite some years now and I recently found that they back in the 1980 they used asbestos in their products.

WE NEED A SNOUT THAT FITS OUR FACES!

My fluid is non toxic and non hazardous but does create a large cloud of atomized fluid/droplets. so i need something that can handle large volume of droplets/atomized fluid. again the fluid itself is not harmful but having your lungs full of atomized fluid is the issue

I bought brand new on AMAZON, and it had a white powder on, Do you think that´s normal?
That is release agent from manufacture.
@@craighearn747 Thank you , should i just wash it off, or should i not use it?
ACOATL just wash it off like you would do after each use. Dish soap and water and then dry. Keep in a large plastic zip lock bag and some dry towels to a sod any moisture. Wash of course with the filters removed and you can see the thin rubber/silicone flats that keep the breaths out moving out of the mask. With the filters off and the mask on you put the palms of your hand over the parts where the filter threads on an this is how you would check the fit of the mask.
