This is fabulous! Thank you for this video. Love the 7500 series med half & been a 3m fan for decades. Stay safe!
thank you SO much for explaining this and clear up the confusion. excellent video!
Great review. I'm a physician who does intervention on Covid patients and I use the 7500 series 3M half mask. I use dish soap and water soak and then Honeywell refresher wipes. Stay safe.
@Fact Checker There is a filter on the exhale valve that should reduce the risk of contamination but only in part.
Fact Checker Not correct. The filters are 99.97% effective and if you don’t have COVID you can’t pass it on.
Thank you for this information. I have not seen any other information on mask and filters. I really needed this. Again thank you from Miami FL. God bless

Nice, over here in NZ we are not provided with this level of protection. This has helped with my personal purchase. Thank you very much.
I've just ordered this filters for my work.

With COVID-19 and the shortage of filters for the half masks as well as N95 masks, use a surgical mask to cover either the filters of a half mask respirator or the whole mask on a N95. Extra barrier of protection.

Bullshit. Surgical masks offer zero protection for the wearer.
@@Rondoggy67 The surgical mask overlay is for protecting the industrial filter cartridge from absorbing splashes and propelled droplets since surgical masks are hydrophobic.
@@Rondoggy67 The exhale valve still must be covered
You can get an adapter for those n95 filters so you dont have to use them with the vapour filter at the same time. You can also get a pink plastic case that has a reduced sized aperture.
The first filter you said to throw away after exposure. The bit you said "Removes with difficulty", can be and is meant to be removed so the white particulate filter can just be replaced on it's own.
The filter part number is 3m 5n11 and they can still be found if you look around.
Thanks for your service - Steve
d1v1s1onby0 Yes I have removed them. The package often comes with two pre-filters in it for just that purpose. But compared to the 6035/6038/7093 enclosed particulate filters, they are just not as safe for our purposes and I would only use them as a last resort, given how tricky they are to clean.
5n11 cost about $18usd for a box of 10(5 pairs). Much cheaper to stock them as single use vs 2138

In some countries you can find 7093 or 7093c filters. Those are p100 and should do the job without mayor issues. Those filters have plastic housing too.
Hi from Wales.. UK.. Great vid.. Sorted my confusion there.. Thanks
Thank you you for this vid. Very informative - from a frontliner in the Philippines
Thank you so much! Excellent video
Hi thanks for sharing. Here in Scotland there’s quite a lot of confusion re so called ‘P3RD’ filters where the ref to ‘RD’ remains unclear in the context of whether they offer less protection from Covid-19 compared to P3 filters. The ones your using don’t appear to state ‘RD’ so I’ve got some added work to do to see whether they’re effective. Keep up the good work abs stay safe.

Got extremely lucky at a local hardware store, they had a respirator that actually came pre Packed with a set of these filters. Been using them since, as a nice secondary it eliminates me tossing disposable masks into the waste bin so often.

I have bad dust allergies and have been using respirators for years. 3m is very middle of the road, bit like a basic Ford car. There are classier makes with less breathing resistance. Appreciating all doctors.
Make and model please. I am afraid of masks causing a open lesions that could transmit, or is the lung's the only way?

It is rather easy to trace the filter or gas cartridge onto a piece of fabric, paper towel or other breathable material. Then cut it to get a pre-prefilter to use as an outer layer. I used some non-woven from old furniture after hand washing and drying it, it seems to repel water droplets, it did not get at all wet when I was wearing the mask outside and it rained. It also helps to make the filters last longer, since it catches the larger dust particles. since it is not the primary filter it is OK to wash and disinfect it by whatever method.
The straps are a cloth elastic material . I take off my gown first. Then with new gloves grab the sides of the mask and pull out and up. I have cleaning wipes set out already and wipe it down. The straps don’t need touched.
Just imagine how many lives (and paranoid nerves) saved that video!
Appreciate it, even now this is still useful to me.
How many hours of breathing through the 2135 filters do we get until we have to replace them? 3M literature states that these disk-style particulate filters (2135/2091/2097) can be used for as long as you can comfortably breathe through them, so why do you consider them as only one-time use?
SKMatoBB Because if they are spoiled by droplets then they become an infection risk. 3M pointed that out in communication to the rep I get them from.
@@staffnsnake But that's only because of the textile nature of the filter and the fact that it's surface can't be disinfected like the other filters with a plastic surface, correct? If you don't touch it with your bare hands for the 72 hour duration for which the virus can be alive on the surface after each use, it should not pose any risk and protect you pretty much until it's clogged up by dust and other particles from the environment, right? You just have to be careful not to touch their surface, transfering the virus to your hands and then to your body through your mouth, eyes, etc.. I think it'd be pretty wasteful to just throw these filters out after each use, wouldn't it?
@@staffnsnake Why would the droplets damage the filter any more than any other particulate filter? The inside of these disk-type filters has pretty much the same structure as the replacable pads that you put underneath the cover of the plastic filter. Making the only difference between them the nature of the surface of the filter as I described in the previous comment.
SKMatoBB I guess it would depend on how soon you expect to reuse the 2138 filter. I also suspect that most hospitals would take a dim view of ever reusing any kind of fabric equipment that had been soiled by patient bodily fluids and not actively sterilised. Moreover, there are other pathogens besides SARS-CoV-2 in pharyngeal droplets. I need to stress that the whole exercise of using these 3M respirators is for while we await arrival of medical grade PAPR systems. This equipment is not the plan, it’s the fallback from the main plan.
@@staffnsnake I was talking from a public standpoint, not about hospital use per-se. Mainly about using it for shopping and other necessary activities requiring contact with other people. This is the use case that I'm considering for these filters. Do you think they'll suffice for re-use in these circumstances?
Thank you for a meaningful and research based video. There is so much nonsense out there.
Hey, do you have any information about filter 6075 (of course + P3 pre filter). I was wondering because it is listed as filter for hospitals and laboratories. Does it help or 6035 is better because of the inhalation area?
That filter shown here (plus pre-filter) is a vapour filter that absorbs formaldehyde among other organic vapours. So it would present the same issues as the regular paint vapour filter plus pre-filter in that it is difficult to keep clean. The 6035/6038/7093 are better because the filter is completely encased and droplet-resistant, whereas the setup you mention exposes the pre-filter to droplet contamination.
If using alcohol for disinfecting the plastics, ethyl would be a good option as, unlike Isopropyl, it doesn't degrade the plasticst as bad, if at all. Very informational video though.
Using a steamer might be better option*
Thanks for the guidance on this. I'm a dentist, I worry about exhaled air that my patients might be exposed to, so I wear a normal surgical mask under it. I use soapy water sponge to clean and then expose both sides to UVC for 5 minutes. Should be good?
Not save in the slightest. Dentistry procedures are aerosolising, often, for which you'd need maximum PPE / filtration. You should be worried about the air they contaminate and infect you. Are you really a dentist with a medical background / training in viruses / infections?
Excellent video! Inquiry ... I get a little foggy next to an exhalation valve. Someone else happens?
Can we use to clean the cavi wipes? We have the clinell wipes as well but most of the time we use cavi wipes.. its the same ya? Just with different brand.
Is it necessarily a good idea to remove them for cleaning? This could create a entry point for virus particles. Since 6035 filters last months at a time, I usually leave mine attached to the mask during cleaning, clean the whole thing, and store it in a bag.
Excellent point. I recommend a slightly different way, which is to use a suitable disinfectant to wipe down the outside surfaces, including around the cartridge interlock area before removal. Then remove the cartridges, and then wipe back side of the cartridge mating area. Put these aside to dry and for safe keeping. The half face or full face mask should be decontaminated following whatever procedure your local officials are comfortable with. You do need to clean these, as your own resperatory droplets will make the inside kinda funky. The straps also could potentially transfer the virus to other surfaces, not to mention any viral particles you had stuck to your face (but not entered into your body) can be transferred onto the mask as well.. 30ml bleach + 7.5l water, TBquat, or virkon 1% are all acceptable options. Each option has specific steps and times to follow. All require a final rinse of clean water, and then allowed to air dry.
No you must remove the filters for cleaning. You don’t have to worry about possible entry points for the virus through the filter aperture. They have static charge and could not reasonably be expected to fall off the plastic housing and into the wearer side of the filter. You must clean and decontaminate the respirator after use.
As you mentioned about cleaning, did you use UV-C light to disable any possible live contaminants?
No, we use sodium hypochlorite, aka bleach, to which the virus is especially sensitive.
Couldn't you use a UVC lamp to disinfect the cloth disk filters after use?
theoretically yes. but its possible that particles went deeper into the filter fabric and might not be reached by the UVC. but UVC will surely kill off everything on the outside. if you have to reuse them, than exposing it to UVC is surely better than nothing.
So I bought the 6001 are they good enough for general day to day use since there is shortage of face masks, dust masks
I am afraid I can only speak for the respirators I have researched and confirmed with 3M. You should your local 3M distributor.

Hello doc, thank you for the informative video. Cleared a lot of my doubts.
Personally using a 3m 6200 and 6800 respirators. With P2091 p100 and N7093CN filters.
Am able to get the smell of hand sanitizers when I use them, is it normal?? Or is something wrong with the filters.
PS: I regularly do the user leak test and ensure that everything is ok.
P100 filters don't filter out vapours, so yes, you should still be able to smell ethanol through it. However, do ensure that the filter is properly screwed onto the respirator body.
No you shouldn't be able to smell anything!! I can't even smell gasoline or garbage with mine.. smoke? Nothing. N95 or P100 you should not smell or taste anything
Today 5/ 22 / 2020 I just got my 5400 series full face mask, sadly no filters that came with it.
I couldn't choose what filters to get for it. What can I choose what's right for it for covid 19.

Our Department here in Queensland has these but we are planning on cleaning the the mask filters in-situ, while still wearing it, waiting for it to dry thoroughly, then remove, with a spotter checking coverage. I feel that this reduces the risk of contamination of the inlet ports during the removal of the filter cartridges. What are your thoughts? DM me if you like or email. Thank for the great video - saves me making one! Stay safe.
Are you wearing coveralls as well? I work at a different department in Sydney. We appear to be going down the surgical gown/balaclava route for neck coverage. At what point are you cleaning and wiping down the mask? With the coverall still on?
Michael Tobin We are using gown/balaclava or the coveralls (being careful to ensure hood doesn’t contaminate your back when removed). What we will be using will be based on what’s available I think as we’re running out of everything. The respirator is cleaned as the last step, while still on, using antiviral wipes (eg. Clinell wipes) in front of a mirror to ensure good coverage. We’re using sealed cartridge filters and not removing them, just cleaning all external accessible surfaces. So far so good.
Hi Michael (again) and nice to meet you Paul. I would not recommend a simple wipe if you have been involved in directly intubating a covid patient. But if you were just wearing it for general use while transporting a patient or in an ED red zone, perhaps it might be okay. I couldn’t say. Here is a link to 3M’s literature on use of their respirators during an influenza pandemic www.3m.co.uk/intl/uk/ohes/segments/healthcare/(9666a)OH_ReusableTechBulletin_lft.pdf
How long can I use the 6035 filter for? There is nothing online about it? 100 hrs? 30 hrs?
Doctor What about the cartridge filters series 6000 ( like 6001 6002 6003 6006) I know they are already made for gases and vapours but what about their efficiency against covid 19?? Thanks in advance
What about the 3m 7093 particulate filter? Is this a viable replacement for the 3m 6035 filter?
Good video buddy.🙂
I use a 3M 6200 medium respirator with a pack of 2, 3m NIOSH 7093CN or 7093 P-100 Particulate filter and replace them every month or 40 hour of use. The respirator must fit tight on your face. I have a full face respirator but cannot use it because the public still cannot understand the nature of COVID 19 ( a RNA with 26000 - 32000 codes) that mutates very rapidly to adapt. It isn't the case if all of us would be infected, the question is when and for ages over 70 the mortality is at least 10 %.
Where did you get info on the filters? I would like to read up more on the filters. Thanks for the awesome video!

7093 works as well. But it doesn't block any smell. The 7093c blocks the virus and the smell too.
Lissmirelle VA Why would it need to be 7093C? The C model is for nuisance gas. All you need is the filter (7093 or the European version which is the 6035).
Hi how do you clean the disc filters.... Or how can i reuse after been in contact with a posible covid positive pacient????
It's one use only. Dispose if contaminated I think.
Just leaving them for a few days will Kill the virus, just swap out filters on a regular basis and they last until physically clogged or broke from excessive changing.
Hi Doctor. Do you recommend the Filter 7093b ??
Xh1n0 I am afraid I don’t know that number. You should check the ratings on that filter. From what I can see on a web search it looks like it easily meets that standard. Please check with 3M though.
IMO 7093 (aka 7093B or 7093CN depending on the place it'll be sold) is the best (maybe a little bit overkill) for covid-19, but if your budget permits and it's relatively abundant at your place, i say buy a few pairs, much easier to clean and much rugged than particulate filters like 2071, 2097, or similar
First name, Surname From what I can see, that model looks like the 6038 filter in Australia.
@@staffnsnake the difference between 7093 and 6035/6038 is that the latter also filters nuisance gases, therefore not necessarily needed for COVID-19 scenario
First name, Surname Thw 6035 does not filter nuisance gases, only the 6038.
5N11 filter equal to the n95 mask efficiency?
Similar. P2 filters 94% of 0.3 microns particles, n95 filters 95%.
I not sure if n or kn can filter the virus while inhaling but it looks like it helps to filter breathing out. But the cartridge filter systems with the correct cartridge that I have seen use a check valve that won't filter while exhaling , so it might be much better to stop the person from getting it but not spreading it , So the check valve it needs filtering the air IMO. Do you concur with my hypothesis ?
Jacob Clark It isn’t an hypothesis, it’s reality. There is no filtration or exhaled air. If you are doing anything invasive for a patient with a reusable respirator, you *must* cover the exhalation port with a standard surgical mask.

Sir, CDC recommends not to use respirators with exhalation valves for sterile field as it can contaminate the sterile area. What is your opinion regarding that?
Dr. Karnav Patel This is because exhalation valves do not have filters when exhaling. It is useful to breath out more easily. So respirators with exhalation valves can protect oneself very well but are not designed to protect others or the sterile area. Its better to get a resiprator with non exhalation valves.
That is a very good point. An option could be to shut the exhalation valve with tape. My concern with that would be whether the lenses would fog up quickly in that situation? What do you think about this possibility? Cheers
ua-cam.com/video/eCWb_23sHg8/v-deo.html
@@javierpachonalvarez5757 Exhaust valves also help fogging up less on lenses, so blocking it would increase humidity on lenses and fog them
Hey Ralph! That is my view as well. In order to avoid the fog, the solution proposed by Staffnsnake is to cover the exhalation port only with a surgical mask so that there is still some airflow allowed; However I struggle to understand how the fog wouldn't be an issue in a full face respirator with the exhalation port covered with a surgical mask, as the airflow rate coming out would still be greatly reduced/restrained....It would be great if someone with a full face respirator could actually test it to clear all doubts. Cheers
is u.v. light recommended for decontamination the mask and filter?
I would think not as the light would have trouble reaching the inside of the respirator silicone.
@@staffnsnake thanks for the info
very informative I must say. I was trying to get a 3M brand of respirator but I ended up getting a different brand which is Safety Works with a filter grade of P95/OV (Organic Vapor) Can I use it at work with CoVID patients. It is pretty similar to the first cartridge/filter that you showed. Thanks a lot. Godbless.
Adi Andre I am not a rep or an agent for 3M. I only did videos on them because that was what was available. There are other brand out there like Sundström from Sweden that some are using. One hospital in Sydney has those. So you will have to do your own research on the particulate filtering qualities of any filters you get. If you can, you should also get quantitative fit-testing done for whatever you find. The vapour filter components are not relevant to viruses or bacteria. Cheers
I'd like to chime in here for a bit. Any respirator that pressurises properly works with a P2 or P3 filter. Alternatively you can use military surplus gas masks with 40mm NATO NBC or ABEKP filters which are much more common, cheaper and effective than the type of proprietary connectors you would find on 3M type respirators. Even if the filter itself is expired it retains its particle filtering properties.
@@victigr I have seen adapters to use 3m filters on gas masks. And several other adapters for different countries gas masks to NATO standards also.
Hello, i bought a mask with two A1P2 filters. What i want to know is if the filters are safe for covid because of the norm. It is: ENI4387 : 2004+:A1 2008.
I dont know where to confirm it elsewhere so im asking here. Really waiting for a reply. Thanks
What brand is the mask and what brand is the filter?
P2 ~= N95. N95 is USA standard, P2 is European standard.
N100/P3 are better if you can find them.
Hi the filter 2097 its to virus covid-19?.
thanks!
melalineaz zuta yes, it is a P100 filter.
Have the pink round p100 filter.can we reuse them?
Supposed to be good for 6 months. Check 3m site
The pink pancake shaped P100 filters are more plentiful. Perhaps what is needed is a round plastic housing to glue them into so that all that filter surface area isn't exposed.
If your wanting to add the P100 filter to the cartridge filter, you can use a GM 502 adaptor that snaps onto the face of the cartridge. It has a male bayonet fitting just like the respirator. Otherwise the P100 pancake filter attaches directly onto the respirator.
For healthcare workers who have issues with asthma, what respirator would you recommend? Tnx
A half face respirator with P3 filters. Whatever respirator get P3 or N100 or P100 filters for maximum protection!
What about a 7800s 3m mask?
Hello I have the 60923 filter. Will that not work against covid 19?
yes it will work. it has p100 filter

Howdy from the U.S. I am loving your're videos brother. We would like to invite you as a special guest on the tactical podcast. Feel free to check a few out on this channel and get a feel for what they are like before getting back to me. I hope to hear back soon and thank you very much for the great info. Will Sherlund- founder of GFS and fellow first responder
gutterfightingsecrets Hey Will, nice to hear from you. I’m not sure anti-viral PPE for hospital or EMT use is really germane to a podcast on tactical stuff. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I am ex-army a BJJ novice, and I am training in archery to go bow hunting for venison, so I see where you’re coming from. But I cannot really put myself out there as an expert. I simply aggregated the information available from 3M so it could be shared in an easily digestible way. Also, some unidentified coward in one of the six hospitals I work at was pissed that this respirator thing wasn’t their baby, so tried to have me taken out on a social media code of conduct violation. That was rubbish, as I state either in the video or the comments that I am not representing any of my workplaces. But that’s the state of play. So I don’t think linking civilian use of respirators for treating real or suspected covid-19 patients is quite the thing for your podcast. I appreciate the invitation all the same and I wish you all the best with your podcast. Cheers bro.
Do you recommend de filter 7093 C????
The 7093 is the North American version of the 6038 so yes that will be fine.
7093c is overkill but can work. 7093 or 7093b is what I use
Is there a filter on the exit valve?
No
Only if you fit one for it yourself.
what is the American equivalent of the 6035? they don't sell 6035 in America
7093 I think
I have a 3M 3500 series organic vapors respirator with noshpn95 inserts
I herd millions of ppe masks have throughout Europe been ordered but Switzerland held there in customs for over a month now. This has caused basicly a traffic jam with air delivery and orders for alot of European country's.

I am a doctor deal with covid 19 patients .. is it safe to uce 3m 7502 half face mask with 2135 filters
I wear this to the supermarket and pharmacy. With 2138 filters. Trying to source one for my sister, a doctor
As you say, filters are extremely scarce 😕
Good Cats - No Adverts where can I buy filters
Can we keep the respirator in a ziploc bag after use and simply keep in it the sunlight for disinfection?
paper or non-woven fabric bags is better (breathable). Locking in the moisture means mold growing conditions, also virus lasts longer in humid environment. if using ziplock bag, add in dessicant. Silica sachets that come with shoes, handbags, you can dry at a low temp in an oven and reuse.
Follow the 3m cleaning instruction videos, it’s not hard

Hi, im a doctor working in the intensive care unit of COVID-19 patients, here in Mexico I can not find Andy 6035 filters, the only ones I can find are 7093 (purple ones), P100 protection, I have a 6800 facemark, would you think they are appropriate, and do they last 30 days ? Thanks for the videos BTW they have been very helpful in how to clean the gear and how to dispose them. @staffnsnake
HTgt2 Yes the 7093 is the North American version of the 6038 and will be fine.
staffnsnake thank you for the info! I was looking for the 6035 but here in Indonesia we only can find 7093 magenta one. Will got one for my dad to do surgeries for the positive covid19 patients.

I use this mask we do emergent procedures , and I dont fear exposure .. my depatment ordered 40. when we looked the covid is bad
We can all learn a lesson from that decision.
All of it is true, but if one is using a wide surface area mask or respirator with a big inlet you may not need to bin it, if you are not going to use it for days! Say 7 days, as most of public does not need to use it constantly everyday.
