EDIT: Paper 1 is 80 marks AQA and 64 edexcel. Either way the story is a significant amount of marks :)

my teacher marked a description I did today and she said it was nearly 40/40, so very happy with that 🙏🙏, gonna start with that in tmr's exam so I can get off to a good start, then probably onto Q4 and Q1 before finishing with Q2 and 3 (these are fairly simple, just need to not spend too much time on them)
Good luck with A-levels!! It is good to have a framework for the writing Q prepared, but my teacher said having pre-prepared stories/descriptions isn't a good idea as it can become difficult to adapt the story and the tone ends up coming off as awkward.If that has worked for you tho, then its probably a good idea lol

I don't think that would be weak. It's all about how you style it, but at the end of the day if it asks you to write about a time where you met someone new - and you write about a time when you met someone new (even at the end) they can't complain :)

Didn't come through but thanks anyways. It's my fault really for not reading the description properly. I managed to memorise my first paragraph of something I'd been working on anyways and used that in the exam. I'd say it went quite well. Hope your exam went well!
for the last question you said to prepare it before hand and adapt it, but then it'll just be ab something else and only a little bit about the actual point of the question if ygm. like say I prepared a story about an adventure and the question asked to write about the weather, the weather will only be a little part of my whole story as I created a whole plot before hand
that's fine if it's about that - you just need to subtly change the emphasis of the story. e.g. make the weather like a defining feature of the adventure.
for example in the question 'write about the time when the weather was memorable', i really focused on the rain in the run. usually, my character would trip on a stone but i made it so they tripped in a puddle too.
it's defo easier for edexcel - but worst comes to worst you've got some preperation of some good ideas, e.g. you could use some running description you've made when you run somewhere in whatever story they give you. hope that makes sense

if you can come up with a good story that's very high marks, it can make the paper a lot easier is my point 👍

for a quick answer tho, i would 1000% do politics over law - i tbink it’s much more fun to learn if you like it and law is super difficult + you don’t actually need it to do law or anything
After the 40 marker, would you recommend starting with the shorter questions or the 15 marker?
after that i'd probs just do the paper from the start
should you use q5 pre planned essays that a lot of others could use too? Im sure examiners would notice if a lot are similar, thanks
hiya, i would try and adapt your story a little to add more of a personal touch to it. it would take a huge number of students to write a really similar thing for examiners to notice

Innit cs was liggghttttt , so easy , obv didn’t attempt the two 6 markers but I finished the paper in 20 mins and slept for the rest

hi, just wondering, I did my exam and wrote my pre written 40 marker, for section A I wrote very good analysis but I got the gender of one of the characters mixed up and wrote about the character saying "he" when it was a girl. Would this mean I get no marks for section A?
that will be fine, there’s no way you’ll get 0 marks for that. i highly doubt you’ll drop any - examiners are meant to mark positively and they do understand small mistakes like that happen. honestly don’t worry about that

basically yeah, you don’t have to exactly word for word memorise it but the more you know it the better

HEY GUYS! If anyone's up for it, here's a practice Q5 I did for you guys to mark. Marking always helps you improve! :)
The rickety frames of the old house looked as though they were about to fall. There was not a single plank of wood on that unimpressive roof without some type of damage. Tapping my wet boots on the dry concrete path, I made my way towards the shed. The lacklustre appearance of the shed contrasted with the sprawling fields in every direction. The lackadaisical lump of dirt, directly next to the house, lay carelessly as the gentle wind breathed through it. The rain had stopped for the last few days allowing the sparse sunshine to illuminate the prairie. Every flower, which was once gulping for breath under the merciless onslaughts of constant rain, had now blossomed. The mountains were as colossal as ever, like snow-capped guardians watching over the peaceful prairie. Every object in view seemed at harmony - except the house.
The wooden structure, which showed signs of once being an ornate and well-decorated building, looked empty. It seemed as if the previous owners had taken away every item alongside the memories and moments shared inside it; leaving it barren. Frighteningly, the two large windows on each end coupled with the wide, steel door in the centre made the house seem like an indignant creature. A creature who had been abandoned and forgotten. The long forgotten house was covered in years and years of 'art' left by reckless teenagers but the steel door looked impeccable (as if it had just been installed). Carefully prising the door open, I stepped in.
After taking some seconds to register my surroundings, I began walking to the centre of the room like a moth to the flame. The insipid features of the empty room contrasted heavily with the masterpiece lying directly in the centre.
It was a piece of art like no other.
Its ornate framing glinted in the few rays of light which shone upon it. The vibrancy of the paint, the detail of the shapes and the flawless composition left me absolutely dumbfounded. Carefully, I used the tips of my fingers to feel the frame which was engrained with floral patterns and encrusted with what seemed to be gold. It was gold. Possibly the purest gold I had ever seen. This gold was not just on the frame but every little detail on the luscious painting was made with gold.
I took five steps backwards and stared at the painting in awe. It was an angel, bright with the light of its candour, surrounded by a blissful darkness.
It truly was a masterpiece.
This truly is a masterpiece, I’d suggest having exclamation marks for lines like “it was gold” and like maybe rhetorical devices as well but I think it’s quite exquisite tbh
using the mark scheme and different marking criteria’s here’s what i came up with. Took me a bit of time but it’s all good:
Content and Organization (24 marks)
1. Content:
- Engagement and Interest: The essay captivates with its detailed and vivid descriptions of the setting and the painting.
- Creativity and Imagination: There's a strong sense of creativity in the imagery used, such as describing the house as an "indignant creature" and the painting as a "piece of art like no other."
- Relevance and Development: The narrative stays focused on the setting and the mysterious painting. There's a clear progression from the exterior of the house to the interior discovery.
2. Organization
- Structure and Coherence:
The essay follows a logical structure, starting with the exterior description, moving to the interior, and culminating in the discovery of the painting.
- Paragraphing:
Paragraphs are used effectively to separate different ideas and descriptions.
- Linking of Ideas: Ideas are well-connected, and the flow from one paragraph to the next is smooth.
Technical Accuracy (16 marks)
1. Grammar and Syntax:
- The essay demonstrates a good command of grammar and varied sentence structures, enhancing readability and engagement.
2. Spelling and Punctuation:
- Spelling is accurate throughout the essay.
- Punctuation is used correctly to guide the reader through the narrative.
3.Range of Vocabulary:
- The vocabulary is rich and varied, with effective use of words like "lackadaisical," "ornate," and "insipid."
My Mark and Grade Estimation
Based on the criteria:
Content and Organization (20/24)
- The content is highly engaging, original, and well-developed.
- The organization is coherent and logical with effective paragraphing and transitions.
Technical Accuracy (13/16)
- Minor improvements could be made to elevate the precision and impact of some descriptions, but overall, the technical accuracy is very high.
Total: 33/40
i would say it’s a grade 8 and hitting grade 9
Summary
The essay demonstrates excellent use of descriptive language, strong narrative structure, and high technical accuracy, making it a high Grade 8 level piece.

@@HenryBrandRevision I kinda just mess up the structure question I get like 3/8 and the language question I got 4/8 and the question out of 20 I got 9, I always pick the worst quotes and that and pick no techniques with basic explanation, I’ve watched mr ee and I know where I’ve went wrong
