Hello! Hope you reply to this comment since I'm in need of a lot of help. I've decided to give English language as a private candidate to improve my equivalence percentage. I chose English since I've always been good at it and I'm honestly not looking to get an A* or even an A, a B or C would be fine for me. Have no idea where to begin and even after watching this and noting everything down I do not know where to start and what to do. Any idea what I should study and follow to create a basic understanding of it because I understand what we're supposed to look for in texts but if there's a way where I could understand what the things that I'm looking for ARE (such as a lexis, semantics etc) would be of much help.

I am struggling on whether to do English language as an a level as I have to pick my a levels on results day in roughly a week, cause the GCSE was really boring
Not really - it’s how things/people/places are represented in the text - how they’re represented by the writer through the use of language, grammar and context. You can even talk about how the writer represents themselves!
i’m doing combined language and literature and i didn’t realise how much terminology there was for language! any tips for how to memorise them? i’m really struggling their all so similar! and i’m so bad at picking them out from texts!
Imani yes definitely! it’s open book during the exam whereas lit isnt so no learning quotes and the language terms you have to learn help a lot with writing in literature!!
In this comment you create a representation of your question as simplistic through use of the premodifying adjective "ridiculous". The implication here is that you believe your level of knowledge to be so low as to be worthy of scorn, while you discount the merit of your desire and effort to seek improvement. Your use of the interrogative sentence function to seek advice followed by a declarative featuring the emphatic adverbial "so much" to signal the level of difficulty that you perceive creates a representation of the video creator as authoritative and knowledgeable by highlighting your belief that what she has achieved seems to you, at the time of your writing, to be beyond your level of ability. You'll want to get a second opinion on this: I'm early on in the course and just practicing. ☺️👍

Reading novels is not important at all for English language!
I started hard core revising around March/April for exams in early June
I’d say you do need a strong understanding of the English language to be able to analyse meanings in texts and explain their purpose using different language levels
if reading is not important then what is important to get a or a star in the exam?
@@theamateur6731 detailed analysis and using multiple language levels as I explain in the video.
Reading lots of novels and literature is for English Literature A Levels not English Language
@@AlicePreece And what do we need for creativity in English narrative essays? Are essays in AQA English language syllabus?
@@theamateur6731 You would be better off asking a teacher! All of my knowledge is in the videos on my channel!
I got C's and D's Nan thanks to you I got an A in AS levels
Would you write an introduction for any of the questions? thanks x
I would do just a short intro where you gap the text and give a lil bit of context, just so you can’t be marked down for poor essay structure 🙌
Hey this video is amazing!! But I do edexcel and so I’m assuming I can still use many of ur tips right? I mean still enjoyed it though:)
I start English language in September and I’m so scared do you have any tips for going to a different sixth form ? 🤍
I am an Exam Officer in the UK. We are incorporating GCE English Language into our qualifications. This is a big input however I need to listen to 2 or more third party validations. Any suggestions?
Please make one for paper 2! Absolute lifesaver.

I am German and I did not understand anything.
i think you might be about to save my a levels
now im stressing because the whole A level english language syllabus changed and ive only picked it up now in term 2
Ahh you’ve got this - try not to stress, you can do it!
Please please PLEASE do paper 2 asap!!❤❤
It has just been uploaded!
appreciate im late to this, but we have only been taught spoken CLA and not written. is that an issue?
yeh no as a math student i soo did not sign up for this when I decided to do an English AS .....ahh well might as well give it a try lol (also , ure h i l a r i o u s )
Bless you thank you so much ❤
In the first part of the video are you taking about the anthology text question ? How can we spend 30 minutes preparing when the exam is 60 minutes long
This is A-Level English Language! (AQA) There aren’t any anthology’s in English language!
I am struggling on whether to do English language as an a level as I have to pick my a levels on results day in roughly a week, cause the GCSE was really boring
A level English language is SO different to GCSE... it’s way better in my opinion!
so you mention representation, is that how certain things are presented or perpetuated in society ?
thank you !
Not really - it’s how things/people/places are represented in the text - how they’re represented by the writer through the use of language, grammar and context. You can even talk about how the writer represents themselves!
Hi can these be used for AQA English language aswell? Sorry haha I’ve only just started my A Levels so getting used to everything!
Could you please do paper 3 & 4
My exam board was AQA so there was only 2 papers!
@@AlicePreece oh thanks anyways, great vids for p1 n 2
Hello how often did u revise to get an A*?
Thank you so much 🙏🏻🌈
Our school only teaches one side of the CLA section, is that not normal?
Alice I didn't get those tips well wat can I do to improve from a grade C to A*
I didn't get taught writing... 😭😭
amazing !!!!
i’m doing combined language and literature and i didn’t realise how much terminology there was for language! any tips for how to memorise them? i’m really struggling their all so similar! and i’m so bad at picking them out from texts!
Would u recommend the combined course ?
Imani yes definitely! it’s open book during the exam whereas lit isnt so no learning quotes and the language terms you have to learn help a lot with writing in literature!!
@@reginaphalangephalange6152 thankyouuu!!
This may seem like a ridiculous question but what counts is a representation? I struggle so much to find them in the text.
@@edwalkeronthewing HELPP HOW DO U DO THAT MY EXAMS IN 2 months and constantly getting Ds idek what a premodifying is

thanks for the help
how do the papers become 40% each?? do the marks get doubled on each paper??
my teacher won’t let me use the word “this...” do you have any good alternatives because it’s taking me too long thinking oh i can’t say this in an essay
That is the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard 😂
Maybe you could say “thus representing”? Honestly that’s the dumbest thing ever why are teachers like this 😂
You're videos are really helpful, but what exam board did you do for English Language a level?
It was AQA!
Thank you I really need this ❤️
