Envy will be a great mum to Bobby. Never had orphan foal myself, but from what I heard from horse trainers who work with problematic horses, a lot of orphan foals have behaviour problems just because they did not have mum or another adult horse to teach them manners when they were foals. Honest question that is out of curiosity and not malice. How do you choose which horses to pull from auction? You obviously get a lot that need help, but does that leave the healthy ones slaughter-bound? Again, I’m just trying to get educated in the process and, hopefully, my question is not misinterpreted as judgmental.
@@brynnhardwick7623 Generally, the healthier ones are purchased by individuals who are paying more than what the slaughter buyers are willing to offer, so they go to actual homes. No guarantees, of course, and it depends somewhat on how many rescuers are at the sale and how much money they have available to buy more animals.
The consensus is the more healthy horses have a higher change of being bought ie going to new homes. Only a select few buy horses in terrible conditions and put time and money into them while people buying healthy horses are plenty. So that's part of it.
Even if the killbuyers do get horses in healthy condition, they don't ship to slaughter. They will post them on their flipper page for triple the price they paid for with the threat of sending the to slaughter within 24 hours. Most people will then purchase these horses from them at ridiculous prices, and half the time receive some with injuries that were never mentioned, age being very wrong, and sometimes a completely different horse than what they thought they were getting.
