Maybe I should have stated in this video. I live in South America, a country named Suriname. Right before you get brazil. I am not a US citizen. So that's why i'm doing these reactions. learning from you guy's comments. The journey is amazing!!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video! He wrote this song either while he was going through a divorce or had just gotten one, so it is a very personal story and he put his whole heart into it. I've loved this song since it first came out. He is a very talented artist indeed. He in in failing health right now and it makes me so sad.
Hi Neverender....I know Suriname. A lot of Surinamers live in The Netherlands.... I loved your reaction to Phil Collins! I love all sorts of music....rap, classical, punk, pop etc. Music opens your mind.... Keep checking out the music!!
Phil Collins Is a prime example of a true multi-talented musician-vocalist, songwriter The list is endless. Back in our day You had to be able to bring the goods. You were not gonna be famous if you could not sing, write music, play instruments You had to have the talent.
I go back and forth on am I just getting older and the age old these kids music sucks is taking over ot not. But, as a lover of all music I must say something is lacking these days. I feel ya.
you are witnessing the true definition of the 'slow build'. The anticipation of what's coming next. And yes, that drum riff is one of the most famous in all of rock.
Very familiar with this song having been a teenager in the ‘80s when this originally came out, but this performance blows me away every time I watch/hear it!
This was when music was poetry, they told a story and the music was the cherry on top, didn't need to run across stage to get the audience going he just walked and the music did the rest
Seconds before the end you see a brief close-up of Brad Cole, the keyboardist. He did backing vocals through a vocoder, and this is what you hear as an electronic voice.
Not bad for a drummer “who sings a bit”! 😊One of the best drummer ever!!! He joined Genesis in 1970 as their drummer. He did some backing vocals to the singer, Peter Gabriel, and also as the singer on 2 tracks up until 1976. Peter Gabriel left 1975 after the Lamb Lies Down On Broadway tour and the search for a new singer began. After MANY auditions for a new singer, the band decided that Phil would be the new Genesis singer. They released the 1976 album A Trick Of The Tail with Phil Collins on vocals and drums. For tours they hired an additional drummer, Bill Bruford and in 1977 they hired Chester Thompson (the other drummer in this video) who played on tours. Phil Collins is one of only three artists that has sold over 100 million albums as a solo artist and with a group. The other two is Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. A busy drummer “who sings a bit”!
These music reactions are fast becoming my favourite thing on UA-cam. The amount of pure joy and appreciation from you and the others is as breathtaking as the performances. I think we take for granted how much some classics hit the soul 👍
Phil Collins was a pro drummer before he started his singing career. He is one of the best ever. And his voice is exactly as you heard it. No machine was changing that. This is probably one of the best live music videos ever.
Don't overlook Chester Thompson, who has played supporting drums to Phil for many years. He started playing the drums (in this song) near the very beginning, and throughout the song, on his own set. Love Chester!!!
I get goose bumps every time I see this performance!!! 💥💥💥. Love to see people discover Phil Collins .....the first time they see this performance especially! So glad you enjoyed this! 😁❤
Great reaction 😂 I always love your enthusiasm. You chose the perfect performance for this song. This live version blows the studio version out of the water 😊
I've seen him live twice solo and once with Genesis. After I saw him at Madison Square Garden my friend asked me what it was like to see this song performed live. I said that it was like an orchestra of musical fireworks. I haven't travelled as much as I'd like. I went to Europe only one, and for work, but I've seen many concerts. For that I am grateful.
Written by Phil when going through his very messy 1st divorce.. it’s about his anger frustration and pain.. he has so very many songs not just his solo work but also with the group Genesis
This will not disappoint you. Love Phil Collins. Sit back and enjoy this awesome video. I'm 74 yrs and never get tired listening to him sing this awesome song!
Great reaction, this a one in a million live performance! Phil was the drummer for Genesis and became lead singer after Peter Gabriel left the group and they couldn't find a suitable replacement. This was one of Phil's 1st big solo hits and he shares the distinction of being only 1 of 3 musicians to sell 100+ million albums both as a member of a group and as a solo act. The other two are Michael Jackson (the Jackson 5) and Paul McCartney (the Beatles). If you're interested in listening to the rest of this concert, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/cPzrZ-1g-7U/v-deo.html. This was in Paris, 2004 and this song was a little over half way through the concert.
I love watching people's reaction who can understand and appreciate great music. To me Phill Collins is one of the greatest artists ever, I'm glad I grew up in his era.
As a 68 yr old, I ALWAYS enjoy watching the younger generation come across our GREAT music and have mind blown, with genuine admiration and respect. 1st time watching you and LOVED your reaction! Thank you. Don't know if you've done The Righteous Brothers "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," but i would love to see your reaction to that one.
That electronically modified background voice is being provided by the keyboard player. He's credited in the description below the video you watched. It was not Phil Collins being double-tracked, or anything done to Collins' voice.
This is Grandma from Texas. I don’t care what anyone says (including Phil Collins). There is a time in your life when you really look inside and face yourself. I think this song is about that moment when you confront yourself it happens to us all. 😉. Great reaction. Thank you.
Mr Collins is a legend! This took me back to my youth and you know, there is so much music out there today, good music but...the oldies...the oldies! Back then, no auto tune, no fancy arrangements, just raw voices and a few accords but so darn good! All sort of music from old school rockers like Queen, Sweet, Ted Nugent, Nazareth, Joan Jett, Janis Joplin...to the pop era artist like Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Sonny & Cher, and the "Blue Eyed Soul" guys Righteous Brothers...I could go on forever!
I felt the same way as you the first time I saw this performance. When done you feel like it was an out-of-body experience. WHAT WAS THAT? An amazing and emotional performance. Brilliant!
There's an entire lifetime of experience and musical training that went into that moment, perfection, from one of the greatest singers, drummer, performer and writer of our generation. I'm so glad I got into Genesis, every member has given me so much. If you want to see some of the variety of genius that band spawned check out Steve Hackett's recent performances of The Musical Box or Firth of Fifth.
How I wish I was able to be at that concert...your reaction sir? Is warranted! He's the most amazing artist ..right up there with Freddie, with Prince, with Elvis and so, SO many more. Why he isn't a Knight of the British Realm, I don't know. But he deserves to be!
I have watched many many reactions to this video, and I couldn't even count the number of reactions I've watched of other artists, and this is HAND:S DOWN the BEST reaction I've ever seen!! Thank you for this!
This Phil Collins performance always gives me chills! You might want to check out the official video for Phil Collins, "Another Day In Paradise". Another great performance is Stevie Ray Vaughan, "Texas Flood Live At El Mocambo"
I have watched hundreds of reactive videos and haven’t commented until NOW! I LOVED your reaction and your absolute joy of watching Phil Collins who is a legend and a genius.
Your reaction, to his song, brought a Big smile on my face. I have loved Phil for years! And I am 83 yrs old! You , know good music, when you hear it!👏🏻
I grew up listening to Phil & Genesis. Always been a huge fan. It breaks my heart to see his current health conditions. I remember seeing a comment once about Phil looking like "Your best friends dad, except he's a mega-star." and it's always stuck with me because it's just so true
So awesome to see Phil being loved and discovered by so many. Im a 90s baby but i promise you i grew up with 80s music and back. Hes always been one of my favorite artists.
@mimi-422 lol! There's two Heathers in my family so this is the nickname I gained so we'd know who our family was talking do when we were all together.
Other great songs by him "I don't care anymore" "I missed again" "Misunderstanding"/w Genesis "Man on the corner" /w Genesis "Sussudio" "Don't lose my number" "One more night" "Another day in paradise" "Something happened on the way to heaven" "Do you remember" "I wish it would rain down" "Both sides of the story" "Dance into the light" "Wake up call"
Was scrolling by and saw this reaction to the MOST EPIC buildup ever. And the fact that it's Phil Collins I couldn't pass it up to see your reaction. He's one of the best drummers ever. ❤❤
Legendary! Having seen him do this live was something I'll never forget. That and Mama with Genesis. Knowing the song going in, your heart races because you know what's coming. He has a way of milking it....delaying the hook. love it.
You have to watch carefully because it’s a visual and music performance. I grew up listening to Phil Collins. He’s beyond fantastic. An actor a musician of many instruments as well as a singer songwriter.
Maybe I should have stated in this video. I live in South America, a country named Suriname. Right before you get brazil. I am not a US citizen. So that's why i'm doing these reactions. learning from you guy's comments. The journey is amazing!!

Hi Neverender....I know Suriname. A lot of Surinamers live in The Netherlands....
I loved your reaction to Phil Collins! I love all sorts of music....rap, classical, punk, pop etc. Music opens your mind....
Keep checking out the music!!
About the electronic voice you heard. It's from Brad Cole, the keyboardist and his music director, usig a Vocorder.
Formerly in group Genisus. Perfect musician.
This song was also used specifically for the tv show Miami Vice, great show.
Phil Collins Is a prime example of a true multi-talented musician-vocalist, songwriter The list is endless. Back in our day You had to be able to bring the goods. You were not gonna be famous if you could not sing, write music, play instruments You had to have the talent.
True dat! He's also one of the best most respected music producers in the business.
I'm 68 years old so know this song well, and your reaction to this was just amazing! To see you rock out to this put a smile on my face.
Phil Collins is a legend and a true artist. Something a lot of modern music lacks.
Harsh but fair 😊
Amen dude!!!🎵🎼🎶💕💕
I go back and forth on am I just getting older and the age old these kids music sucks is taking over ot not. But, as a lover of all music I must say something is lacking these days. I feel ya.
Lol…ok Gramps
Have you noticed he plays his drums in a reverse set up?
How he plays the drums that hard and still belts out his voice without skipping a breath I will never understand. Amazing!!
WheWWWW GREAT REACTION!!
His sheer presence on stage makes the performance so compelling
you are witnessing the true definition of the 'slow build'. The anticipation of what's coming next. And yes, that drum riff is one of the most famous in all of rock.
Now that was a reaction! Music is impossibly powerful...
Yep, Phil Collin’s is a force of nature. Loved seeing your pure joy as you discovered him.
YES, this is REAL Music!!!!. No Auto Tune !!!!!!!
Very familiar with this song having been a teenager in the ‘80s when this originally came out, but this performance blows me away every time I watch/hear it!
One of the most dramatic performances ever, by one of the greatest drummers of all time. Thanks for your reaction.
it's always a pleasure to watch such great reactions from young people today when they hear such a legend as phil for the first time
Great reaction my friend. The legend that is..... Phil Collins ❤🎼
פיל קולינס הוא מהמם.הוא אגדה.זמר איקוני❤❤❤❤❤❤אהבתי את התגובה שלך👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️
I know, it’s incredible! And bravo on not pausing it during the drum solo, you have to listen uninterrupted!
Best drop ever and probably one of the best live performances ever. This is one of those songs where you immediately turn up the volume.
-This music track was inspired by his feelings of anger after his divorce with first wife, Andrea Bertorelli in 1980.
This is what happens when a man has thirty years to perfect his performance of a killer song. A pleasure to watch your reaction
Not bad for a drummer “who sings a bit”! 😊One of the best drummer ever!!!

Phil Collins is an icon! Singing and playing drums at the same time is very difficult. He does it with ease. Love your reaction!
Phil Collins was a pro drummer before he started his singing career. He is one of the best ever. And his voice is exactly as you heard it. No machine was changing that. This is probably one of the best live music videos ever.
Thank you for being open to all the other wonderful types of music. An open mind is a true blessing.
Don't overlook Chester Thompson, who has played supporting drums to Phil for many years. He started playing the drums (in this song) near the very beginning, and throughout the song, on his own set. Love Chester!!!
Yes! Drummer of Frank Zappa's best band ever (in my not so humble opinion),
and driving force on Weather Report's 'Black Market' !

I don't buy that story. His first divorce was years before this song.
