My old man, love of my life was a pillar. He was a VVA. This song was a best friend to him. He never told my why. He was emotionally attached to this song and I didn’t know why. I didn’t understand why. After he ended his own life it became clear to me. He couldn’t save all his soldiers and couldn’t live with it. He was a combat medic, it hurt me so much but he saw me and my family through our successes in life before he ended his own life on his own terms. I’m a vet like him and the VVA’s were the most supportive. Love you Vets.
I love, when you get really excited about a certain part, you go back over it... 1, 2, 3 times; it doesn't matter, cuz you want to hear it again. You're one of the few reacters who do that, and I love it. When people really love a certain part, I'm always "saying" to them (through my screen LOL), "rewind it, and watch it again"!! I'm so glad you appreciated this---Phil Collins is a genius drummer, singer, and songwriter! He wrote this, regarding his wife cheatin' on him, and his divorce!
This performance is so iconic. Phil has a long music catalogue. I still have his greatest hits cds in mint condition. I also love “Against All Odds” and “East Lover” duet with the great Philip Bailey from Earth, Wind and Fire🔥
I don’t know where to begin with this man. Phil is so freaking talented both with Genesis and as a solo artist. He no longer can drum but he still sings and performs today. My favorite solo songs; One More Night, Take Me Home, Another Day in Paradise, Always (my wedding song 🥹) Dance Into the Light, Behind the Lines, I Missed Again, Don’t Lose My Number, Inside Out. Genesis, Mama, That’s All, Invisible Touch, Tonight,Tonight Tonight, Land of Confusion, Abacab, Turn it on Again, Misunderstanding, Man on the Corner. His discography is unbelievable. Not to mention how awesome the Tarzan soundtrack is!!
I literally never, EVER get tired of watching someone see this video for the first time. YES, my friend. He plays the drums. And, this is pretty much at the end of his drumming career (which is TRAGIC) because he now has so much pain that he can no longer hit the kit. It may be my imagination, but I feel like I can see the physical pain in his face when he picks up those sticks and starts slamming. This entire performance -- by everyone -- is legend, imho. And, the zen dude with the white beard is Leland Sklar, another musical legend. Put this one on loop, my guys.
First he was a drummer in genesis and then became its head singer. Later he was one of the most successful solo artists in the world. Has sold at least 150 million records worldwide. This song appeared in one of the episodes of Miami Vice tv series back in the day.
Oh my goodness! I AM SOOOOO OLD!! 😂 This was one of my favourites. My best friend and i used to lay on the floor with our ears to her parents huge speakers, listening to this on full blast! Neighbours banging on the wall! 😂😂 Great memories. Thanks for your reaction. Sending love from the UK 💕
Phil is a legend, he started out as a drummer with Genesis! Then became their lead singer and eventually went out on his own. I'm pretty sure this was the order of things, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! Great reaction AB!
He was the drummer for the band Genesis. He is also the first lefthand drummer I have ever seen. The song was in the TV show Miami Vice. He also appeared on the show too.
Phil Collins is a legend… get chills every time I hear this song! Loved the reaction… I always smile when people hear that drum solo for the first time!! And yes… you need to listen to them all live… his voice and performances are always best in front of a live crowd. I Can’t Dance, Another Day In Paradise and Easy Lover are three you should check out. 🖤
Phil collins had two incarnations, as the drummer and lead singer of Genesis. Also he had a very successful solo career. With reacting to this song you have opened up a huge rabbit hole. So many hits. I don’t know where to begin. One of my fav songs of his was Against All Odds. You’ll Be in My Heart. Sussuidio. Don’t Lose My Number. Invisible Touch. Hold On My Heart. Do You Remember? I could go on and on. Def check out his music. You won’t be sorry
Phil Collins is best known as the drummer/singer of the rock band Genesis in the 70's & for his solo career. He has had so many great hits such as "Another Day In Paradise", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Against All Odds", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Take Me Home", "Two Hearts", "A Groovy Kind Of Love", "I Wish It Would Rain Down", "You Can't Hurry Love" etc.
OMG I never get tired watching this video of Phil Collins singing my favorite song. He's so awesome! I know you're not doing well. I send my prayers and love to you! You're an awesome preformer! Love you! ❤️ ❤
WATCH: Not just this concert footage which rises above expectation but also the scene from Miami Vice in how it's used. You truly are missing something if don't. This 'was' supposed to be Collins last tour (it wasn't). Recently it was as he's physically becoming immobile from health conditions. Phil's concert piece was stunning visually & musically watching him perform. Seeing the massive crowd is a jolt bringing in the love/anticipated emotion for supposedly his farewell tour. No that wasn't the introduction to his song. As many know, musicians/singers create add suspense to the intro so audience is unsure what's going to be played & aids in staging time gives the artist(s) time to get readied to go out. They also use lighting to hype up the suspense for the entrance. Right when Collins steps out is where the original song does begin.
Collins is a percussionist. He did write & compose this song. There's a lot of percussion you may not realize is present already on the stage before his entrance (another drum set, cymbals, congas, & timbale). For this song, he played all the instruments in the studio including all the percussion laying the tracks then had other musicians play it live. Collins didn't just play with Genesis as the rock band's drummer, he did background vocals. Then became both drummer/soloist (which is crazy to be able to sing/drum simultaneously). After left group to be solo, he toured as a soloist & was known to have more percussion accompanying him. Additionally, he's did stage ensemble work too (Pick Up the Pieces). What I also will state, he was one of the artists t first use & introduce synthesizers when were in infancy stage. Although widely used, there wasn't always experimentation as he did using his music background. Sadly, he's had hearing loss, issues with nerves/tendonitis & spinal issues. The last tour just completed, but he couldn't do the drumming. His son did it for him & he mostly sat in a chair.
Percussionist Started drumming at an early age. He attended a Fame-like school in England which also strengthened his voice. During time enrolled managed do a few movie roles & did musicals. Once graduated, he answered a tryout for Genesis. He got fame being a professional drummer/backup vocalist for the rock group. Peter Gabriel (Sledgehammer) was the lead then left the group to solo. Many may not know but Collins/Gabriel have similar style voices. Genesis spent time auditioning for a replacement for Gabriel. They couldn't find anyone having a similar sound. Not thinking the group never heard Collins sing solo on his own to realize he had a similar style. They chose Collins & rest is history. Not only was he a very good percussionist & but while singing he kept the group on beat. That's exactly why he's amazing singing & is on the beat. Keep in mind known for his drum solos while singing! This meant, he sang ALL the Genesis songs while playing drums! He then went on to do some solo work (still close to the band). This was not the only 'hit' song since soloing. it became one of his fans favorite from the result of the marketing from the TV show 'Miami Vice'. That made it more open to a bigger audience watching the premiere episode of the show. Reason behind song The life of a musician can be hard on a marriage. He was married with 2 kids. Collins had been on a long tour & the distance helped erode his marriage. When returned home, he discovered that his wife already had left w/ the kids & was in the process of divorcing him. Communication between them was very hostile & toxic. He also had a lot of downtime in-between tours. He was spent a lot of time writing & recording to deal with this surprise divorce & alienation. He was depressed, had constant arguments w/ soon to be ex-wife & terribly alone not used to being by himself. He wrote this song during the fits of anger/depression & impulsivity. (Interesting his ex-wife was not amused about the song feeling uncomfortable he wrote it towards her & their private situation making it public. Now being it's a huge hit, no longer cares about that but the revenue streaming in.) There wasn't a plan or reason to the words it just came out of him. The drum solo he kept playing different drum fills on the recording takes. It was luck of the draw & timing he chose that one. This particular song was out prior to the show. It got added for filler for a TV pilot show (Miami Vice). It triggered such a strong reaction it started a trend where many current contemporary hits (including Rap) were incorporated into soundtracks for TV/movies to fit a mood. There had been music in the background, but not as strong as this was punched/featured. The setup: TV show based out of 1980s neon Miami. Atmosphere; wealthy, pretty girls in bikinis, Latin influence, European popular vacation spots & pastel colors. Miami at that time was known for its vicious gangsters, crime/drugs coming in from South & Latin Americas. It showed other than NYC & LA a strange criminal underworld. It re-introduced Miami to the rest of the country not only as a vacation get away but also to live there. We see various mixtures of characters in supporting roles in the under cover drug task force (including James Olmos). Crockett & Tubbs were the lead undercover police officers. These 2 main leads were a pairing of an odd couple. Crockett's been undercover for a while, is a little loose & reckless. He recently lost a partner. He lives on a houseboat with his pet alligator Elvis. He drives a confiscated black 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona, commonly known as the Ferrari Daytona Spyder. Tubbs is more uptight to the rules & more conscientious. The famous music scene: It's around dusk, they've been waiting for a criminal meet w/ the 'big' guy. Something happened as someone's been killed/injured & a person's been arrested. Minutes later, they get the phone call from one of their 'connections' to drive to the meeting point. They have no clue if been found out & what to expect at the meeting. Crockett gets in to drive the Ferrari, while Tubbs sits in the passenger seat. The top is down. All the while going to the site, this song is playing loudly in the background. It sets the tone of unease, suspense & nervousness. While driving, it changes to nighttime as the breeze goes through the car. Exception of a few words, they're silently passing on busy streets becoming that more industrialized & isolated to end they get out of the car. ua-cam.com/video/-aMCzRj3Syg/v-deo.html I saw the pilot. It blew my mind how one song just fit a scene. Over the years, I used to drive hundreds of miles to go home. I wore this out for about 5 years as I drove through the night. It fit the mood as I was driving through some not nice neighborhoods of the Bronx to get onto I-80 & go the 400 miles home. Hours driving miles in darkness being sometimes the only one on the road hit was the mood as I listened. Miami Vice was also unique in that many pop singers appeared on the show. FYI: Phil Collins (himself), Sheena Easton, Glenn Frey, Gene Simmons, Leonard Cohen, Ted Nugent, Little Richie, Barbara Streisand, Frank Zappa, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Miles Davis, The Power Station, Isaac Hayes, Jan Hammer (wrote the Miami Vice theme). Lyrics: I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord And I've been waiting for this moment, for all my life, oh lord Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord Well, if you told me you were drowning I would not lend a hand I've seen your face before my friend But I don't know if you know who I am Well, I was there and I saw what you did I saw it with my own two eyes So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been It's all been a pack of lies And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord Well I remember, I remember don't worry How could I ever forget It's the first time, the last time we ever met But I know the reason why you keep this silence up No you don't fool me The hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows It's no stranger to you and me I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord
He actually appeared on the Stage in London as the 'Artful Dodger in Oliver as a kid and auditioned for the movie but lost to Jack Lord. He is however one of the kids in the gang.
This song was featured prominently in the original "Miami Vice" television series. Sometimes it was used to open the show. Was released in the early to mid 80's. Definitely one of his biggest hits, may have been his solo debut, as he was a member of Genesis prior to going solo. Insanely talented percussionist. His health, sadly, is fading fast now. He can no longer play drums.
To me one of the crazy things about this song. I heard it all my childhood. It never fazzed me. When I seen this man perform it on a live stage. It hit different I felt his hurt and could relate to it on a completely different level.

HE PLAYED DRUMS IN "GENESIS" THEN WENT SOLO👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
This performance is so iconic. Phil has a long music catalogue. I still have his greatest hits cds in mint condition. I also love “Against All Odds” and “East Lover” duet with the great Philip Bailey from Earth, Wind and Fire🔥
Yaaaay finally our best reactor.... Our fav! ❣️😁 WE LOVE YOU AND THIS!
You just listened to one of the mos talented and iconic musicians ever born. Simply great!
I could see the pain, too. Not in his face, but the way he hits the drums.
I still get goosebumps when I hear this man play the drums. GOAT!!!
First he was a drummer in genesis and then became its head singer. Later he was one of the most successful solo artists in the world. Has sold at least 150 million records worldwide. This song appeared in one of the episodes of Miami Vice tv series back in the day.
Most iconic drum solo EVER!!!! Phil is a beast on the drums! ♥️🎶
You just witnessed greatness
Oh my goodness! I AM SOOOOO OLD!! 😂 This was one of my favourites. My best friend and i used to lay on the floor with our ears to her parents huge speakers, listening to this on full blast! Neighbours banging on the wall! 😂😂 Great memories. Thanks for your reaction. Sending love from the UK 💕
You witnessed greatness right there.
Phil is a legend, he started out as a drummer with Genesis! Then became their lead singer and eventually went out on his own. I'm pretty sure this was the order of things, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong! Great reaction AB!
Seeing him concert was one of the high points of my life!
I liked your reaction
He was the drummer for the band Genesis. He is also the first lefthand drummer I have ever seen. The song was in the TV show Miami Vice. He also appeared on the show too.
Phil Collins is a legend… get chills every time I hear this song! Loved the reaction… I always smile when people hear that drum solo for the first time!! And yes… you need to listen to them all live… his voice and performances are always best in front of a live crowd. I Can’t Dance, Another Day In Paradise and Easy Lover are three you should check out. 🖤
I can't dance is Genesis, not Phil solo.
@@ingobordewick6480 I know… it’s still a song in which Phil Collins shines though.
I love when you become silent by what you are seeing and experiencing! Love your reactions.
What a great reaction! Your expressions, emotions and reaction totally mirrored mine the first time I watched this performance!
I remember when they would use his music for many of the Miami Vice episodes for some of the intense moments of the show which fit PERFECT.
How many drum solos have you heard? Tons.
How many drum solos with amazing vocals by the drummer at the same time?……..Mad Respect!
Love you! ❤️ ❤
PHIL COLLINS is not a singer that play the drum.. he is One of the best drumer ever that can sing!!! since he was with GENESIS
1:15 funny how "music" evolves from this to just sticking usb drive IN
One of the greatest vocalists of all time.
A masterpiece right here🤟❤️💯
Phil Collins is a Legend ❤❤❤
Funny you said “Night Rider”, this was featured in Miami Vice. Love it!
Love Phil's Drum playing. He's phenomenal. His voice is epic. He's a living legend of Rock.
Love. Love. Love. Phil. You would like 'I Don't Care Anymore ' LIVE. Good job.
Been waiting on you to do this one!
I knew you'd love the drum solo 🤣🤯
Great reaction! I laughed so hard 😅
Percussionist
Started drumming at an early age.
Reason behind song
The life of a musician can be hard on a marriage. Now being it's a huge hit, no longer cares about that but the revenue streaming in.)
There wasn't a plan or reason to the words it just came out of him.
The famous music scene:
It's around dusk, they've been waiting for a criminal meet w/ the 'big' guy.

I saw the pilot.
FYI:
Phil Collins (himself), Sheena Easton, Glenn Frey, Gene Simmons, Leonard Cohen, Ted Nugent, Little Richie, Barbara Streisand, Frank Zappa, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Miles Davis, The Power Station, Isaac Hayes, Jan Hammer (wrote the Miami Vice theme).
Lyrics:
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
And I've been waiting for this moment, for all my life, oh lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
Well, if you told me you were drowning
I would not lend a hand
I've seen your face before my friend
But I don't know if you know who I am
Well, I was there and I saw what you did
I saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies
And I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord
Well I remember, I remember don't worry
How could I ever forget
It's the first time, the last time we ever met
But I know the reason why you keep this silence up
No you don't fool me
The hurt doesn't show, but the pain still grows
It's no stranger to you and me
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord
I can feel it in the air tonight, oh lord, oh lord
Well I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh lord, oh lord
He actually appeared on the Stage in London as the 'Artful Dodger in Oliver as a kid and auditioned for the movie but lost to Jack Lord. He is however one of the kids in the gang.
I literally get so emotional when I watch this….every time!!!! Thanks!!!
Amazing vocalist, amazing drummer, amazing artist! Thanks so much for the great reaction! Best of luck with your channel & God bless!
Finally got to Phill Collins. I'm so glad I absolutely love this song
The song came out in the 80's.
Man, I love that f'n song. I needed that tonight. Thanks.
Sadly, music like that is no longer produced!
Phil Collins is an Icon. He is one of the if not the best drummer around. Playing drums and singing at the same time is most difficult and he does it with ease. Love your reaction!
I saw this live. It’s one of those songs that always brings chills.
Phil Collins started with Genesis back in the day! He was the drummer then and then went solo. Check out Another Day in Paradise.....very sad song but so very true.
"Take Me Home" from this concert is incredible as an example of Phil Collins drumming. Strongly recommend.
I’ve watch A LOT of reactions to this live version and yours was probably the best. Loved Phil Collins since the 70s! He is a treasure!
I play this especially right now with world events at least four times a month. It's like going to church every time. I just stumbled upon you and am glad I did. No coincidences....doo dooo dooo dooo. Do The Chicks - MARCH
Its a sensual song. Iconic drums. Absolutely fantastic.
Loved your expression mouth opened and you were so stunned!!! Yes you need to go and listen to all of his music!!
My husband saw this live and met him. His dad was in the record industry. I’d pay big money to see it live, but he can’t perform anymore, sadly. I love these reactions and seeing him reach new audiences.
There are some artists, where people of my generation have to say, yes, with no auto tune, no studio manipulation, they really were that good & Oh, BTW you now have about 50 more songs by this artist that you really, really, need to listen to... & Phil Collins, is one of those artists.
Phil Collins, born in 1951 in London England. This song was originally released in 1981 when he was 30 years old. This live video is from 2006 when Phil was 55 years old.
