  • Time to revisit some more of the diesel work we do around here, this time we're diving into a No Start condition on a Ford F250 with a 6.7 turbo diesel under the hood and rather quickly discover we're battling an issue we have NEVER seen before. Also included, even we professionals make mistakes and we're willing to show it!
Diesel repair work isn't fast and flashy, and it's often quiet stinky but these machines and what they move about are a big portion of what keeps the economy pumping. As the 6.7 Powerstroke came out over a decade ago we're starting to see more and more service work coming for these vehicles. Well if you're in the Columbus Ohio area / Central Ohio area and need diesel repair work, we're more than happy to help! It's not ALL just hot rods and fun rides around here!

I was going to say it looks like some dropped a little off-road fuel or tranny fluid in it until you pulled the filter off. But nope, that’s something different. Strawberry quick is no good on a cp4. 😂 hell regular US spec ULSD isn’t even good on a cp4.

I comment as I watch so I may say things that are found later in the video or I get proven incorrect so just lettin' ya know how I comment. Once when I worked at a dealership in Philly, I did a set of brakes on a supra. We gave it back to the customer and she drove off. I was cleaning my tools for the next job and noticed I had forgotten to put the bottom bolts back in both calipers. She came back saying there was a thumping in the front end. I told her "I bet I know exactly what that is. I'll have it fixed for you no charge in a matter of a couple minutes". I brought it back in, put the bolts in and she looked at me like her hero lol. Oopsies do happen.

    • @LucoreAuto

Indeed they do, no matter how good we are or how experienced we are, oppsies happen just own it and move on. Part of what we try to show in our videos is the "real world" side of this business that even as professionals mistakes are made and we aren't afraid to show a bit of pie on the face. Fortunately no damage was done to any components in the making of this video!

What color is the antifreeze? We have a DD15 at the shop right now with 930,000 miles on it that had cavitation in the injector cups put antifreeze in the fuel system. The antifreeze is red and it has turned into a milkshake in the filter housing with a clear bowl. The engines are known to have injector cup issues but they also have a fuel cooler in the secondary filter base on the engine that will do the same thing and return antifreeze to the fuel tank.

    • @commonsenseisdeadin2024

6.7's don't have injector cups and the fuel cooler on the frame rail by the water separator. TYPICALLY you'll get fuel in the coolant but not the other way around.

I had a customer that went through 6 pumps in a period of 2 years even tho he was only putting 20 thousand miles a year on it. Then his Ford tractor went down and it was getting maybe 20-40 hours a year on it. I eventually found that he was using a 500 gallon above ground gravity feed tank for his fuel supply and he was using all kinds of different types of oil that he would mix in a 250 gallon tote. That included old hydrolic and transmission oil. He was also adding cooking oil to it from his commercial cooking wagon. You talk about a mess? He paid dearly for his ignorance... He had been listening to the web??? Partially anyway.
I did find one time where a customer had done his own service and pinched a return line and it caused a severe starting issue.

Dropped and cleaned the tank. Fresh diesel, sounds the same. Brand new batteries, voltage good and even with jumper on starter hangs up like its vapor locking. Pulled the glow plugs, turned it over many times and no evidence of excessive fuel. No water, no smoke, fuel pressure demand and actual basically the same.
When turning over, it hits like its trying to start but doesn't, then engine binds and stops. Had a friend come look at it and he says sounded like the starter is bad. Funny, it has a new starter. But its an ultima select so I just pulled it off and heading back to oreillys to get a motorcraft starter and see if anything changes.
