Hi Danny and Kate. It's amazing the job you guys have done in just three days. Well done? I've discovered your channel today and I am trying to catch up with all the good content. I am planning a similar journey with my wife and daughter, to Portugal. Right now we are trying to figure out how to work with LSF, as the wood is so expensive. How did you guys calculated the structure of the LSF for the cabin? Is there any website that can help with that? Thanks and good luck with your journey.
Tbh we have just been watching modern house cabin (YT) to see how they did things, then planned it out on paper. Didn’t cross my mind to find a website, good idea for the future!
Hi Danny and Kate, I just discovered your channel as I eagerly go down the wormhole of visioning a similar journey. Just wanted to add to the appreciation which is flowing to you and celebrate your commitment and amazing accomplishments so far. I really like how your content balances how much work it actually is (you're not naive!) with breaking it into manageable chunks (you don't show your overwhelm... if you feel it or not, I don't know haha.) You asked what kind of content your viewers would like to see more of and personally I'm curious how you did that breakdown. I think o remember Danny has a background in project management, so that probably helps! Did you do any particular courses before or volunteer experiences? Are you learning and deciding as you go and planning each phase as you come to it? Or is there like a 3 year plan type thing? Thanks so much. I'm looking forward to continuing to witness you manifest your dreams!!

The steel frame is about 30% - 50% of the cost of wood, depending which country you’re in..! Here in Spain it was about 40% of what we would have spent on wood!
Absolutely! The struts are 60cm apart where possible to fit it right in between 💪🏻🤓 We’re investigating cork cladding for the outside too. Seems to have very interesting properties, including insulation.
We ordered from Materials Gisbert in Jesús. But a lot of builder’s merchants seem to have it, or can recommend another place that does if they don’t themselves. Good luck with your project 😁

Oh, and the internal footprint of the house won’t change - it’s approx 3.5m x 6.5m on both floors. We’ll have some additional outside space like an outdoor kitchen with a seating area, but that won’t be enclosed 🙂

Warning. I am no expert, but the fact that your little highrise rests unanchored on blocks with a waterproof foil in between would make me fear any stronger wind, and wind you have as one can hear. Good luck.
I did not watch the whole series of videos as I am only interested in light gauge steel building and not all the other stuff. I would suggest: 1. Cutting steel with snips. I've never used a grinder to do it. 2. Anchor Building to concrete blocks to protect from movement in strong winds. Or in some areas, the house actually blowing over. 3. You could have built a wider structure for similar costs and time. Hope it's all working out. Architect/builder/project manager for 35 years

I fail to understand the facination of small inflexible spaces! I would prefer a large covered semiprotected space with lots of flexible oportunities for use and supplied with small energy efficient cubicles for privacy and sleeping/rest. I would not like to be locked up in a bathroom size unit the hole winter/summer and not be able to go out without getting wet, covered with snow or seriously sunburned. I find this hole 'movement and facination for tiny homes' quite silly and not sustainable.
Amazing! Cant wait to see more 🍀

We used the 70mm size. The “C” shapes are about 68mm to fit inside the “U” shape channels
@@SmithsdaleFarmwhat gauge/wall thickness?
What’s the board game you are playing it looks interesting. I am loving your channel 😊
Thank you Carolyn. It’s called Settlers of Catan.
Encouraging...
Insulation all around?
Absolutely! The struts are 60cm apart where possible to fit it right in between 💪🏻🤓
We’re investigating cork cladding for the outside too. Seems to have very interesting properties, including insulation.

Awesome 👌
I am curious where you bought the steel. This is for my own project and i also live in spain
We ordered from Materials Gisbert in Jesús. But a lot of builder’s merchants seem to have it, or can recommend another place that does if they don’t themselves. Good luck with your project 😁
Hi Dean.
Hope you're well! We're finally back to the cabin build project and thought you might like to see the next steps and progress we've made.
Here's the link to our newest video, incase you've not already seen it: ua-cam.com/video/F_1uue24TvU/v-deo.html.
Already watched it. Keep up the hard work and keep the videos coming
How big is the land? Is it possible to do farming?
It is about 12 acres in total. About 8 is terraced. The rest is a bit more wild. We can keep animals if we get livestock licences!
What gauge metal studs did you use?
How was approaching the town with your plans? Many concerns or restrictions? What total sqft are you planning the actual house to be?
Maybe you saw in our last video… the arquitecto tecnico didn’t turn up to our appointment…. so… good start 😅
@@SmithsdaleFarm you'd literally have to rent a mini bus and pick up all parties involved like children going to school 😂
You'll get there! Keep up the good work
@@benreed3890 Hahaha. Thank you Ben 💚
Oh, and the internal footprint of the house won’t change - it’s approx 3.5m x 6.5m on both floors. We’ll have some additional outside space like an outdoor kitchen with a seating area, but that won’t be enclosed 🙂
Will you grow your own food can you grow tomatoes all year round in Spain!
Oh yes! Absolutely. We can’t wait to start growing our own fruit and veg!
@@SmithsdaleFarm looking forward to watching it I'd love to grow my tomatoes all year but in rainy Wales it won't happen
Good luck!
hello, you don't make more videos on UA-cam? Where are you ??
Hi Sonia. We’re actually a new one at the moment. We’ve just had a break over winter! We will be back soooooon!! 😁
Hi Sonia.
We just released a new video today, with the latest updates about the cabin build. We made some really good progress, and thought you'd like to watch it.
Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/F_1uue24TvU/v-deo.html
Enjoy 💚
Hi... enjoy rsrs..Thank you for your attention, good luck to you.
Warning. I am no expert, but the fact that your little highrise rests unanchored on blocks with a waterproof foil in between would make me fear any stronger wind, and wind you have as one can hear. Good luck.
Thanks for the concern Mimi but the winds aren’t anywhere near as strong as they sound on the microphone 😅 It won’t be an issue.
@@SmithsdaleFarm great to hear.
What is the thickness of the steel that you have been using?
We’re using 70mm tracks (c shape) and 68mm struts (u shape)
Could the music be turned down a couple of notches please as us old farts hate Muzak otherwise great video.
👍👍🏻👍🏼👍🏽👍🏾👍🏿
😁💚
I did not watch the whole series of videos as I am only interested in light gauge steel building and not all the other stuff. I would suggest:
1. Cutting steel with snips. I've never used a grinder to do it.
2. Anchor Building to concrete blocks to protect from movement in strong winds. Or in some areas, the house actually blowing over.
3. You could have built a wider structure for similar costs and time.
Hope it's all working out.

Thanks for the comment and tips, Joe 😁
👍
😁💚
What is the thickness?
7mm I believe. Don’t quite remember
I understand this is only temporary structure, but looks too small for living...
Think #vanlife … people live in a lot less!! 🙂
made a 4 walls in 3 days it's nice but for me I made that in 1 day
Well done! Impressive! Yes we’re sure many people are faster than us… but we’re enjoying learning all these new skills! 😁
Is this a video about dogs and bees?
No further progress?
We’re taking a little break at the moment over winter. We’ll make a video soon to explain what’s been going on. We’ll be back at it with full force soon! 💪🏻
Cannot wait for your new progress video 🤗

I fail to understand the facination of small inflexible spaces! I would prefer a large covered semiprotected space with lots of flexible oportunities for use and supplied with small energy efficient cubicles for privacy and sleeping/rest. I would not like to be locked up in a bathroom size unit the hole winter/summer and not be able to go out without getting wet, covered with snow or seriously sunburned. I find this hole 'movement and facination for tiny homes' quite silly and not sustainable.
Thanks for your opinion Poul. Each to their own 🙃
Hello, what is the thickness of the steel beams ?
We are using the 7cm size for this build.
