V D In fairness, even though as a dub watcher I’m only part of the way through it, Punk Hazard is the setup Arc for Dressrosa. Not saying people can’t complain about it, but this would be like being mad that Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and, to a degree, Drum Island, aren’t satisfying enough because they’re clearly just setting the stage for Alabasta, which is where the Main Event stuff happens, just like how Zou goes into Whole Cake.
V D I’ll take your word for it then. For the record, the Alabasta/Baroque Works Saga is what made me a One Piece fan, and I did actually just rewatch all of it and it holds up FABULOUSLY. I just made the comparison, because Punk Hazard’s the setup to Dressrosa, which is undeniably Alabasta 2.0, to like a very deliberate degree.
I've always seen the New World narrative as a darker and more action-packed version of everything we saw up until Marineford. As in every arc is just an updated version of an already told arc during that "first-half". Like how Fishman Island was a version of Arlong, Punk Hazard as Loguetown and Little Garden (Drum was its own thing) and Dressrossa as Arabasta, Zou would be Water 7 and Whole Cake would be Ennies Lobby. There's just so many moments where i just think "This feels familiar".
What about Skypiea? LOL just kidding, i would probably put that for Wano, due to the whole aspect of how different is in terms of behaviour and culture and how isolated it is from the rest of the world of One Piece, but that place is JUST starting so i honestly can't say. I'm not saying we're following the same order (sort of), we might see something like Skypiea later in the series.
I can see that since Big Mom is literally an OP Moria with the whole souls thing going on, but i think Sanji's treatment and the fact that Katakuri's battle is just on the same level and aesthetic of the fight against Rucci, i'd say the WCI world is like Thriller Bark, but the story inside is more like EL. But that's just me
Sure, there is EL in it, too, but Sanji wasn't helpless like Robin was in her seastone cuffs. Also, fighting a Warlord trumps fighting Lucci. And it was no accident that Lola from WCI was in the story.
And as probably my last thing to post, the one thing the anime did perfectly was the casting for Ceasar, he makes the character just as much if not better than how he makes Freezer, he's so energized, fits with the character's personality and everytime i see him in a panel of the manga, i hear his voice. Nakao IS Ceasar Clown.
I didn't think smoker did that bad, holding off vergo was essential to getting Law's heart back so he could cut. Law and Doffy and the newish characters they want to hype up so makes sense.
Honestly the entire arc was worth it just for the scene where Law, Smoker and Luffy formed their temporary alliance. Like when Smoker asked Luffy if “he was good” was great. Watching in retrospect (I read the manga way back), Punk Hazard does accomplish 2 important things. 1 is that, where Fishman Island shows off the Strawhats, Punk Hazard is a showcase of the type of threats the New World has, as well as the importance of Armament Haki. I mean, Caesar was hittable because of Luffy’s Haki, and while he’d used it in Fishman Island a little, Luffy as well as the other characters showed just how devistating Armament Haki could be against Logia users Monet and Caesar, and how strong it could be when wielded by an enemy in Vergo. That and the set up for basically the entire story until now, like you’ve said. I’m just waiting for Smoker and his G5 to join the Stawhat Grand Fleet cause yknow, set up.
For me this was a fun arc Not the best and not the worst But its my bro top 5 arcs I watched it weekly it was slow at some points but not as bad as people make it

Honestly, the kids part in Punk Hazard felt like a drag to me as well but only because I was utterly horrified. Something about their ordeal upset me so much more than the awful stuff the previous villains had done.
One of my issues with the arc was that oda really took his time to make sure we new who was who. from the signs on their foreheads to their heads in their talking bubles to their eyes changing completely, I think It was a bit to much and their personality made it obvious anyway. I couldn't agree more to your statement about how interesting it would have been to hear the bodywsapped strawhats with the voice actor belong to the body. I mean, how a voice sounds is mostly based on your bodys vocal cords anyway.
I actually really like this arc. I thought it was cool how there were all these different groups with different goals. You had 1 the strawhats 2 law 3 G5 4 ceaser and 5 doffys goons. I think the way they all blended together in the arc was really interesting. There were also some fights between side characters that were cool, like smoker vs law or law and smoker vs vergo. I feel like this isnt done or isnt done well on other arcs. Overall id give punk hazard between an 8.5 and a 9
There’s no fucking way u giving punk hazard a 9 r u crzy that shit was 50 episodes long n the villain could not be take seriously with the kids storyline being boring asf I was just waiting to be finished with the arc
Isnt' this literally every one piece arc? In Dress Rosa there are even more different groups. "the way they all blended together " at the end all of them are fighting against the main antagonist (Ceaser + co), like in every other one piece arc.
Well the kids were part of a plot point in a future arc that we did know who (I don't remember if BM was mentioned in PH of the kids or not) but we didn't know why. Now since WCI arc- or as everyone likes to call it "The Ls of Sanji" arc- we do, so I kinda like that connection. Also, don't diss Gambino's brother like that lol. I kinda laughed at that "no one has ever died in paradise, like no one" and immediately thought of Pell! But that statement is false: Ace and WB and a few fobs died in the Marineford War.

I think Smoker's assistant Tashigi got it worse as she was shown not only weak but also had several moments where she was a terrible commander. Smoker never really appeared like he wasn't fit to lead.

@@lebryantjordanicuswalton3582yo I know you're probably caught up with the show now after all this time, but I just finished this arc today and I can't you got skipping it bruh. The only reason I don't completely dislike it is because Law
GrandLineReview I love the setting. I find the story of Punk Hazard interesting, but I agree that this arc relies heavily on the characters. For my own pervy- I mean personal reasons, I enjoyed seeing Zoro on the fire half of the island.... I liked Monet and loved Vergo (he's probably my favorite of the top executives.) However, my main point of interest was Law. He is my favorite One Piece character and I was so happy they set him up to be the major character he is now. Plus his moments of getting caught up in the shenanigans of the Straw Hats (particularly Chopper) WERE SO F---ING PRECIOUS!!!! I also feel like it started to experiment with darker themes. Such as the addiction storyline (I really thought that Mocha was gonna die.) As well as the use of a chemical weapon. (Which is considered one of the most brutal types of weapons in the real world.) I also liked how it over all set up the future of the series and I was invested in the whole arc. Plus the name of the island sounds cool. :P
This arc had its moments, but ultimately falls flat for some of the reasons you stated, including the bland and empty locale, the complete tear down of Smokrr and Tashigi as noteworthy combatants, and in my opinion, Cesser clown himself
I’m glad this came up on my recommended because it genuinely took me a year to get through Punk Hazard in the manga all they were doing was running 99% of the time it’s so boring 🤣
ive been rereading one piece recently, just finished punk hazard and man there was a lot of amazing tid bits of information thrown around this arc that was phenomonal for the worldbuilding but if Oda consolidated all of that to like 20 chapters and focused more on the worldbuilding this arc would be cool. Doflamingo, Alliances, Big Mom, Kaido, talking about an alliance to take down Shanks, the worst generation. luffy and law meet again, foreshadowing the recent Wano Kuni arc, etc. everything else was just boring.
I actually really like this arc because of how much it set up and the lore. I love Law too and Caesar was a villain I loved to hate. Especially for his actions on the children. After this arc, his place in the series felt unnecessary. It would’ve been enough to kill him. Instead, his threatening demeanor goes away and becomes too slapstick. The Yeti Twins were actually a waste of time for sure.
I'm heavily biased towards Caesar, mostly because of how perfect Ryusei Nakao is in the role. As a big Dragon Ball fan, it's somewhat weird to hear "Shirorororo" instead of "Oooohohohoho" in that voice but he plays the role _perfectly_
My main complaint is the same, really, in that it feels like a very drawn out set-up arc for things to come. It never... doesn't feel like that, either.
The only thing that could elevate Punk Hazard out of the Second worst arc spot in my mind is if Oda actually does something about Monets Devil Fruit being reintroduced.
I think oda added the yeti brothers for a much bigger narrative. Like are they wearing straw hats? Why are their faces never seen? I think its a subtle hint to the larger story of one piece.
I took a long hiatus from the manga after starting school and I was in the middle of Fishman island. I found Fishman to be the absolute worst in the series up to this point and forced myself to finish it recently. I then flew through punk hazard and enjoyed it much more. Excited to read Dressrosa now!
yeah I never cared for the kids either. I remember hoping and begging for that one kid that was about to die to actually die. But of course since it’s one piece and especially since it was a child she had to survive.

@@lebryantjordanicuswalton3582yo I know you're probably caught up with the show now after all this time, but I just finished this arc today and I can't you got skipping it bruh. The only reason I don't completely dislike it is because Law
Punk Hazard is one of my favorite arcs in the series.
Nice! Can I ask what you love about it?
GrandLineReview
I love the setting.
(Which is considered one of the most brutal types of weapons in the real world.)
I also liked how it over all set up the future of the series and I was invested in the whole arc. Plus the name of the island sounds cool. :P
huh, how did i never notice Punk Hazard look like a Pokeball till now?
Who is the one to call in the beginning of the arc?
Can someone explain why it seems that in this arc both the sunny and franky kinda just get forgotten and then miraculously show up later?
"I never cared for these kids one bit"
Sounds like something Sanji would say!
Watching this in retrospect, do the Cool Brother's Hats look like straw hats? Could that be related to Imu?
I actually really like this arc because of how much it set up and the lore. I love Law too and Caesar was a villain I loved to hate. Especially for his actions on the children. After this arc, his place in the series felt unnecessary. It would’ve been enough to kill him. Instead, his threatening demeanor goes away and becomes too slapstick.
The Yeti Twins were actually a waste of time for sure.
The One Piece dub is coming back and I can't wait to see what Ceasar Clown sounds like.
I loved punk hazard it was a funny ass arc and had bad ass moments lets not forget Law killing Virgo and the speech that followed
Arc review is almost over. 😢 Just four arcs left.
So I started one peice this year and I'm here
I like Cesar a lot, even if he wasn’t the best at being a villain.
The very delightful tashigi lmao making a rly big assumption there
I've just noticed that the Cool Yeti Brothers seem to be wearing the same straw hats... Covered in ice... Similar to a certain National Treasure... :0
The only thing that could elevate Punk Hazard out of the Second worst arc spot in my mind is if Oda actually does something about Monets Devil Fruit being reintroduced.
What were the body swaps for? I thought it was funny but after this arc I couldnt remember why law did this.
I'm hyped for the next video! I'm almost through the dressrosa arc in the anime
I like this style more than the one in the newer video, it has a faster pace
Me favorite part of this ark is when robin thinks about usop and Zoro carring her and luffy I thought it was funny
Despite a lot of people finding this arc mid, I actually REALLY enjoyed it! Its actually in my top 5 arcs
This rarely happens in any video from any UA-camr but I have to say that I agree with everything you say 100%.
This arch did give us the indestructible brownbeard
THANK YOU!! I watch one piece on Netflix and I want to know what happens between marine ford and egghead
How can u like Caesar now? He doesn't show up anymore. Or do you mean Gangster Gastino?
I think oda added the yeti brothers for a much bigger narrative. Like are they wearing straw hats? Why are their faces never seen? I think its a subtle hint to the larger story of one piece.
I hope there's a interesting character planned to have the fruit that Smiley had.
Gangster gastino was made in punk hazard an yes we seen laws awesome fight wit hsmoker i never thought how bad ass it would have looked
This arc took me 2 months to finish but it took me just 5 to get there from episode 1
I'm just excited to watch the dub of this arc, as I am with the future arcs.
I took a long hiatus from the manga after starting school and I was in the middle of Fishman island. I found Fishman to be the absolute worst in the series up to this point and forced myself to finish it recently. I then flew through punk hazard and enjoyed it much more. Excited to read Dressrosa now!
i can't count how many times i yawned during punk hazard
dub is almost at this part, cant wait!
2 years later, it’s not dub
@@joonie3472 its is now
yeah I never cared for the kids either. I remember hoping and begging for that one kid that was about to die to actually die. But of course since it’s one piece and especially since it was a child she had to survive.
What kind of monster are you ?
HOLY SHIT I JUST REALIZED THE YETI COOL BROTHERS WERE WEARING THE GIANT STRAW HATS THAT WAS FROXEN IN MARJIOES WHAT THE FUCK?
I had completely forgotten about the Yeti brothers
Discord doesn't load for me anymore. It just stays on that spinning head. Are the best channel comments on Discord now?
