- I had just got the Miter 5000 by Incra. I have dialed in the fence and I have to say it is a very nice jig. Accurate cuts and very smooth operating. The issues I cover in this video to me are not a deal breaker when deciding to purchase one but are issues worth considering for the investment. These are not cheap and should not be machined that way and never should the measuring tape be cut and over laid. Thanks for watching
Mark at Incra here... the scales slide in their slots to allow aligning the scale sections, and all our scales are printed in 16" segments. The bolt for the extender bar is too long, it should be 3/8". We can send you the correct bolt, or another steel washer under the head is the quick fix. The thin steel scale should lie flat, and we can send you a replacement if you'll contact us with your address.
Hello Mark. Thank you for reaching out to me. I did not know at the time of the video the scales would slide in the slots. I had another viewer point that out to me and I fixed that issue. I also fixed the extender bar issue also. I added a steel washer under the screw head as you had mentioned. As far as the thin scale, it does lie flat and is undamaged at this time. However if it ever has anything to hang on it there is a potential for damage. I really wish there had been a fastener in the design to secure that down. I had thought about adding a strip of double sided tape under it just to minimize the chance of damage. I have been meaning to shoot an update video on the fixes but have been so busy I havent had time. I have had a lot of positive comments about Incra and it seems your company is very good to work with its customers. I was asked by one viewer, would I make the purchase again? My answer was and still is Yes. I get very accurate cuts with this miter. As soon as I can I will do an update video and would it be ok with you to reference your comment?

I'm a beginner, I just ordered a 5000 I hope it fits my grizzley 690. I have a sliding table on mine which I added when I bought it. I hope this 5000 works out.
I embedded a magnet on the underside of the offcut support board to hold it in place. Much easier to put on and remove from the table saw than the allen wrench.
The two measuring scales are meant to overlap. You can see through the one on top to align the marks on the top with the marks on the bottom tape. It's easy to do.
If you read the instructions it explains the over lapping scales, there is a clear window at the 16 inch mark so you can line up the scales.
So The Hole For The Extension fence needs the smaller Allen Screws Put in them .There Are 3 smaller screws 1/2" That get rid of That wobble I did the same thing until I realized I put the longer screws on the extension 😳 when I switched them Out that went Away 😀👍 Happy Woodworking Tracy

I've had my 5000 for probably 10 years and love it. One thing that will happen every few years is the "cutoff" side of the sled will warp slightly, leaving an uneven cutting surface. Yes laminated MDF will warp. I have replaced my cut off side 3 times because of this. Secondly, over time very fine sawdust will build up under the gold attachment pieces where is secures to the MDF causing alignment issues. Check that if your sliding side does not lay flat with the cut off side. Finally, over the years that same duel tape of "clear 16 inch over the bottom 16 inch gets cloudy and harder to properly align. Incra does sell replacement tapes and the cutoff side replacement is about $45.00 including shipping. Expensive for a small MDF board. Still I rarely use a traditional miter gauge in my shop this is so much more accurate. But to be accurate your set up has to be accurate and Tracy does a great job point that out.

I soaked in low viscosity super glue on the exposed edges of the mdf and it has worked so far. 6-7 years I think and my shop tends to have high humidity.

. note you can see thru the 16" mark. Align that 16 and the 16 of the tape under the clear part.
. On the fence extension, I see you have the washer under the head like it should be. When you wiggle the extension I see the washer on the extension flopping around. I think you are using the wrong bolts or maybe the odd looking nut needs to be flipped over. The treads on mine measure a fat 5/16". If you have the wrong bolts call Incra, they are great folks. You see the longer bolt has left small scratches on the slow of the extension.

Thanks for the info. I lined up the tape. Its spot on now. The bolt is the right one. I even tried flipping the nut around. It didnt help. I fixed it though by just adding a second washer
@@hammerdownwoodworkingtracy3679 Your welcome Tracey. I was just in the shop and I looked at mine again. The rear scale on mine is totally flat on the base with no springing when I tap it. Maybe yours is bent just a hair. You may be able to remove it, bend it a very little in the middle near the screw and reinstall. The nylon nut on the arm is only a grip. The gap between the arm and the scale on mine is a skinny 1/32". I.e. it will never drag.
If all else fails call Incra Support and talk to Mark. He's worked on Incra products for over 20 years and knows his stuff.
The tape has a see through window in the 16 inch mark to line it up with the bottom 16 inch mark. look closer. I lined mine up and it's perfect

I went back and re-watched this video. After consideration, I think I'll get the MiterExpress sled (smaller sled) and the Miter1000/HD miter gauge. I like the 5000, but the deal breaker for me is the miter gauge does not remove from the sled when you want to just use the gauge alone. Keeping the entire sled on the saw at all times is not for me. The MiterExpress allows you to remove the gauge when desired. Oddly enough, the 5000 actually costs a bit less (probably from less parts needed).
Glad the video was useful. I have a table saw that is practically dedicated to the sled. Well I have 3 tables saws. One is dedicated to dados. So my sled stays on the saw most of the time and is rarely removed.
Great review of the problems on these miter gauges. It would cost a lot more to over engineer one of these to work perfectly for all.

Very helpful and insightful tips! This is probably a dumb question, but can you use the sled with the saw blade tilted left? The manual says something about OK to tilt right, but doesn't tell you what to do if your blade is left tilting. Thanks
If your blade tilts right you can move the offcut board and use it when cutting bevels. But if your blade tilts left you will cut into the sled. Once you do that you will no longer have zero clearance on the left side of the blade. I don't recommend doing that. Instead I would make a table saw sled and use it for cutting bevels. This sled costs too much to mess it up and make it worthless for anything except Bevel cuts. Hope that makes sense. But I will add, it does make for very fine precision cuts on everything else.
Great video and thanks for the tips. What is the crosscut capacity on this? Incra says 25 but I am wondering if you can cut a 24" wide plywood piece accurately on this.

On a SawStop tho you gotta reverse the sled from what you have cuz of the arbor tilt

Thanks Mike. To be honest I dont know. You would have to figure out a way to attach the T-track to the bottom of the guage without the table. I'm thinking it probably can be done but I am not sure. Maybe another viewer will see your question and answer it if they have actually done this
I don’t lock down my cat sled or the right side of the blade. I leave it loose so you can remove it easily. There’s no benefit to locking it down tight
Always hated the measure tape scale setup. Almost impossible to match the two 16" on top of each other. Seems to me they could have had opposing colors or number 16 less opaque to align. I've had my 5000 for over ten years and I would have thought they would come up with a better solution. I usually test cut a piece of scrap longer (18") until I am dead on past 16" then I know the two tapes are aligned. Of course you will knock it out somewhere along the process. Like all Incra equipment if your setup is not exact you can't expect exact results. Always worth the time on a project to check everything.

Other than a few flaws it's good. I have no problems with cutting perfect angles. The sled is still a little expensive in my opinion but it's worth the money if you cut a lot of miters and so on. Keep in mind the panel is made of MDF and will warp or bow over time. Especially if your shop does not have climate control. I don't know what the replacement panel costs. Mine is starting to warp just a little and my shop does have heat and ac. But I do get great miters from it. I think for the money they charge it should have NO issues but the company is great to work with you on any issues you may have. They saw my video and reached out to me. I fixed the issues I had. Just know if you pull the trigger and have any issues just give them a call. I believe they will treat you right

What do you do on the outfeed side when you change the blade to be 45 degrees? Now it will make another cut into the outfeed board.
Unless you want to cut more off your sled and lose your zero clearance I would use the miter guage. With this jig you have to move the fence for mitered cuts and not the blade
Take the offcut support board off and put a scrap board of correct thickness in place. And make sure you install the gauge in the correct miter slot, left or right, so when tilting the blade it doesn't cut into your main mdf panel.
The miter gauge and all hard parts/components are sweet. The edgebanding on and mdf boards are utter garbage. My entire system bows up straight out of the box, after just hand tightening the screws with a Philips driver.
I have heard of a few others having the same issue as you. Contact Incra. They will work with you

No idea what this entire charade costs, but if I live with the inaccuracies that I put up with now, it sure beats screwing around with this monstrosity! And the gentleman in the video wasn’t working with extended tool time use. He had just received it. That cost your engineering team, one order!
Pretty much every "issue" here was operator error/lack of understanding. I've got the smaller express sled with the 1000hd miter gauge and it's one the best tools in my shop. The accuracy is insane.
Really friend, we know that the industry contains technical knowledge or enough not to do that shit on precision equipment. As we are not distributors of these products on the market, we must be subject to this type of product. With the precision of the aluminum profiles it takes a world-wide construction standard, INCRA really left to be desired in the defects presented in this product. This type of product requires precision aluminum casting and in the desire of the manufacturer to try to lower the price of the tool, it ends up delivering a product that does not deliver the promise of its purpose. A feather.
It has some faults but it is still a very accurate tool. I would love to see some improvements
There are too many moving parts in this sled, and each can cause problems. I'm going to have to pass.

Anyone compared incra 5000 to the woodpecker autoscale Sled? I’m trying to decide which one to get … both do same thing, right?

Based on your comments it appears you would not recommend this tool, significant number of items bother you on this sled.
I recommend it. Just several things that should have been done differently and several that I had to straighten out myself. But as far as accuracy, it's spot on

I agree. All in all it is a very accurate jig. Just shouldn't have that many things wrong with it for the money. But they did reach out to me and they are very eager to work with their customers to make things right.
your 16 with the clear on top, should be over the 16 under the tape. Yours are not. That why you are off.
