This video covers the basics of how to make your first fantasy house out of cardboard, and lays the groundwork for the following videos. - Навчання та стиль
Probably the best cardboard build video I have seen. It’s really good to see someone use the classic cardboard method rather than the endless videos out there which all use foam boards. This looks brilliant!
Or 3D printing. Why deal with a printer for this kind of terrain when you can just use cardboard?
@@theandf it’s easier if you have a printer. Though I still enjoy putting together cardboard terrain, and it’s lighter to boot!
@@bobbirdsong6825 I find cutting cardboard and gluing it with PVA is far easier than using tech, but to each their own :)
Finally something that suits my budget. Looks super effective, too.
This is great. More pure cardboard structures please.
I love the advice of keeping it loose and random. I totally agree with you.
I like this. I like what can be done with foam, but i do not want to make foam look like wood or cut hundreds of individual blocks. Im also not great at measuring. I want simplicity. And this makes a simple, good looking house.
More like this pleaae
This is great, pure cardboard, people that work with foam stuff forget that it is not easily available outside of the us and maybe Canada, not that they should limit themselves to use cardboard, but it is by far the cheapest and easiest material to find, and can actually look pretty good with some work and creative technics. A hug from Brazil my friend!
The roof walls are called gable walls
That finished house looks amazing. Top class
Just made a pair of cardboard houses from the tutelage of this video. Taking time to give thanks before heading on to the sand and glue phase.
Your door crossbeam is pointing the wrong direction. It's designed to support the door in a particular way, and the point on the top is always above the doorhandle.
Thank you for pointing it out 😉 I'll try to remember that going forwards. So lower left to top right yeah? Like /
the rolls inside at Aluminum foil and the roll inside the Vacuum Seal Saver bags. Very sturdy.
Mod Podge is easily available in the UK.
I'm starting building one right now
Yes man 😁
By fart the most bang for your buck build I've seen. aesthetically appealing, accessible, and the host is easy to follow, and well paced.
by fart
@@johnnycarcosa5974 well duh
Thanks for sharing this great work! If I may give a little tip: for the stucco, instead of sand, I use fine MDF sawdust. Got it for free on furniture workshops
I know I'm a little late to the party, but Mod Podge IS available in the UK, but you need to do a little hunting. I tend to get it from Hobbycraft, but everything from there is a little expensive, so if you can find it elsewhere, I'd recommend it.
I loved this video, just what I needed. Just moved to Greenland and can’t get modpodge or xps. So this was perfect. I would love to see you make walls and fences. Tried to use egg carton and cardboard for a wall, but can’t seem to figure it out.
My first ever terrain i built! This was so helpful and i love the result! Thank you mate and i hope that new videos will come 🙏
Mod podge is widely available in the UK, any good craft store such as hobby craft, alongside the decoupage supplies and obviously Amazon have it too
So probably the first video that shows me as an amateur how easy it actually is to do something like this very good video and very good explaining
Thank you :-)
Nice to see you building again. Lovely video to follow.
Very cool finish , great work as always.
Amazingly simple, and wonderfully detailed. Great build.
Fantastic. Can’t wait to try!
this was genuinely so helpful! thanks so much for this vid! great work
Man a place that had these plans in printable template form sure would be handy. I have been all over the web for some and they are only available in bits and pieces here and there. Everyone has moved to 3d printing and its just not cost effective for this kind of stuff, especially when endless supplies of cardboard shows up on everyone's doorsteps almost daily (Amazon).
This channel is absolutely Awesome. Very helpful for the crafters here in the uk.
Thanks for the tutorial, my players will like it, a hug from brazil!
Very nice work.
Great video, thanks for the inspiration.
Nice i love it! Thanks for sharing!
I love this tutorial! So easy to follow for beginners.
What a brilliant video! Cheers man
Super cool , iam about to make a board for frost grave this gave me a ton of ideas ! Great job brother !
Aleene's Collage Pauge and Aleene's Premium Decoupage are both available in the U.K. and E.U. as far as I'm aware and I actually prefer Collage Pauge Matte over Mod Podge for basecoating. It's slightly more expensive stateside than Mod Podge but for the results I'm fine with it.
Really enjoyed thus build 👌 I have subbed
Your newest subscriber-for-life thanks you for your channel! Extremely helpful and encouraging!
Amazing work. Your instruction was very refreshing. Im going to make some of this stuff!
Even after 3 years, this video is gold! I always measured and corrected every millimeter on my dioramas... but why?! Your method is much more relaxed and the building ends up looking much more dynamic.
Thanks !
By the way:
It's funny (for me as a German) that at 28:19 you opened a French recipe and not a British one... :D
Because we think that the French and the British are constantly at odds over their food. :D
Happy to hear it my friend 😊 I've had part 2 in the works for far too long now. At some point, it needs to come out 😉
And well spotted! What can I say? I missed that 😝
You make it look way too easy. Really enjoyed the video. Can’t wait to see the next video… and thanks for sharing
🙂👍👍
Really Really miss you in the car month UK I miss your commentary and that way you have of explaining each creation and the passion you put into it. The other guy is ok but he’s not JAMES HALL. 😞
Yay ! really nice build , I'm going to slice some cardboard... (the chill tone of the video is nice too )
Bought my first lot of hobby craft supplies on the weekend to make a diorama - thanks for sharing will use your handy tips - new sub today. Going to checkout other videos for paint details.
Love this man had to pause and point out that your crossbeam may be upside down 😮, I think the beam should be with the top side furthest from Hinges to support the weight of the door, like gates
I always figure the top beam attached to the hinge 😝
This is such a great video tutorial. I am following along while trying to build one of my own.
Did the same! My first ever house and even with really bad cardboard i am still pleased with the result! Hope yours is working out fine as well
@@everydayisfriday4885 cool! Mine is waiting for priming. I have to get to the beach to get some sand then i will try painting it.
Really fantastic video, shared it on Facebook and hoping it will get some of my non model making friends into having a go.
I’ve bought Mod Podge from the Range if you want to buy any.
Glaint? Plue? Thankfully not Pue. lol
Great looking structures! I'm so glad I found this. As I was daunted by some of the more "Engineer quality" builds I've seen.
Plus, I can do this in a limited space.
No worries my friend 😉 and rest assured, there is more to come.
Thankyou for yr time a helping me out as a beginner. Fantastic vid clip. Cheerz

Bro this is the best option
Looks class..
you have nice/cool math teacher vibes. 12/10 super cool video :)
Cardboard is my preferred crafting medium. Because I can get as much as I want for free, and I'm cheap 😅
Just finised making this! Can't waint to paint it
What a brilliant, hugely helpful tutorial - thank you so much! Really appreciate the focus on using card instead of foam board etc. If it's any help to know, I've found Modge Podge quite easily in UK craft stores, but Amazon stock the range too.
Great stuff. Thank you/.
Underrated
this is impressive
Love it!!
I'm in love!
Amazing tutorial. You got me as a subscriber. Imma start binging every video you made.
Well the old ones are pretty rough 😝 then again, so are the new ones
@@jhminiatures7867 I am told that there is 'Two Yeas Of Suck'. I want to do videos in a completely different industry. This 'one simple material at a time' video is so brilliant. You need someone to tell you how brilliant it is. I believe this is the stuff that can easily go viral - everyone can relate to it.
Really great, definitely going to steal some tips from this especially sand for filling gaps! I think I've spotted Mod Podge available in hobbycraft before? Though that's not very useful at the minute!
You are my hero.
Nice build i prefer to lose the corrugated edges with filler all over the walls makes a nice wattle & daub like texture. Great job tho! 😉👍
This is the best Video i Seen so far! Simple and fun to watch, keep Up the good Work! I used for the wooden parts Coffee Sticks, i Had great results with it.
And matchsticks for widow frames and broken joists, wooden cocktail sticks for rebar, larger wooden barbecue sticks for pipes etc
We watched this video a bunch of times! Cannot find it on your UA-cam channel though. Your next one (the ruins made of styrofoam) showed up perfectly. Perhaps there is a setting that we are missing? Good job dear fellow. I will tell all my D&D Canadian friends. Keep up the good stuff, dear chap!
As I watch more tabletop hobbyist content, I'm more and more convinced that people who do these scratch builds are just fancy hoarders 😂
Piece looks great though
You're not wrong 😂
i love this
Great video. Hopefully you've since found some, but if not - they sell Modge Podge in The Range. :)
We can get mod podge at hobby craft now in the UK
This is exactly what I needed.
I am trying ro build a curvy toon like mausoleum and i keep bettin stumped. This is a great lesson !!!!!!
I also keep my scraps from most thjngs i make. Those work well for tiny details to add later
@@Sarahc-mn1tr keep everything.. just about all packaging from food etc is useful ✌️
I do keep food packaging, unless it is food contaminated. If i catch it on time or has minimal contact it is good to me.
I need to salvage proper foam for bases, but i doubt i will find that.
Any chance you could share any info on that pikeman miniature? It’s been driving me insane looking for it online. Probably out of print.
Excellent content and hope to see more cardboard terrain builds!
Great video!!! May I ask what kind of brown spray paint you use? Thank you.
Nice!
This video got 64 000 views! And you promised us a whole village... but that didn't happen, did it? Still, thank you for this amazing video.
It's in production 😂 it just takes time.
@@jhminiatures7867 This is fantastic. I was honestly afraid you had long forgotten about us and had gone back to making excellent videos about GasLand stuff! Keep up the good work.
@@grimmtales503 I actually had an accident when making the next video for it where I cut off a bit of my finger :p so rest assured, it's coming my friend ;-)

0:21 IT'S NOT ENOUGH CARDBOARD. MORE. WE NEED MORE CARDBOARD!!!!!! /j
I'll be sure to watch this later!! At work now can't wait to see what you do with this!
good~~
Just to let you know you can get mod podge in the works and hobbycraft 😊
Mod podge is available in the UK I get mine from Amazon.
This is an excellent build video. I get so tired of the mantra that this or than specialist material is available at "your local crafting store". Try living where there is no such store. Or getting a cheap foam board at your local "Dollar Store". Well the equivalent in the UK is, I guess, Poundland. My nearest is 30miles away and do they sell foam board? Have they even heard of it? Nope. I'm amazed I found a hot glue gun at my local hardware store.
My only negative comments about the video is (1) you can find additional card such as the back of notepads (referred to as chipboard in the US UA-cam videos - hint in the UK that is a wood product with wood chip bound together with glue and usually covered with a veneer finish) and (2) I find it easier to start with the base and then set the walls against the base to give a more stable and square structure. Oh, and at least from what I have been building the example house was a bit small. I would have probably made it half again as big in terms of its footprint, the height was pretty good though. Final look was superb and an inspiration.
👌👌👌
You forgot the cutting board
You forgot to mention the necessity of using a cutting mat
23:03 is this the reason for the UK knife bans?
i saw your drawings :)
Hey man this is helping me a lot! I’m actually making cardboard dnd terrain for my oneshot coming up. I currently have the floor as tiles but I really want to make that sand effect in the grooves and some on top, kind of like the tiles poking out of the sand.
Question is should I use mod podge in between the cracks and then sprinkle sand on in or do the PVA glue like you did in the video (sorry if it’s a dumb question I’ve never used either so just wondering 😅) Also would mixing the mod podge+ watery black paint have the same effect as the PVA and paint?
Basically yes. Mod podge and PVA are incredibly similar. So using it shouldn't cause any issue :-)
just started a new board for 40k of a feudal world these, kinda fantasy houses with tech gribbles all over them
Curious as to why you say "we don't have access to modge podge here in the uk" I've been buying modgepodge for years, available from a variety of craft stores and amazon
What type of knife are you using?
Where is the spearmen from? I need him....lol
TWO YEARS, wheres my city? Actual only subscribed yesterday......Still sulking there are only 2 videos :( lol
I'm working on it 😉 I also make the Gaslands UK Car of the Month videos, so there's been some delays in continuing the tutorial series 😝
Might I recommend this tutorial for ruined walls/pillars ; ua-cam.com/video/D5c00Tis1UU/v-deo.html
@@jhminiatures7867 cheers :)
Awesome thanks!
You know that hobby craft sell MOGPOG. They sell a load of different ones
I'll have to look into it then 😉
Also Amazon dude.
Hobbycraft sells modpodge:)
You says you don’t have access to “Modge Podge” in UK, but it’s actually called MOD PODGE perhaps your been looking for the wrong thing?!
Hey bud it's curtis nelson, the patreon you have been trying to contact. how do we get into contact you, I've been trying. LOL
