RIP Jon Lord the master of the overdriven Hammond Organ, this song has one of my favourite opening riffs. The Machine Head album has four of my favourite Deep Purple songs (Highway Star, Smoke On The Water, Lazy and Space Truckin'), and sounds as good now as it did in 1972.
Growing up they played 'Smoke' so many times, every person wanting to play guitar learned that riff - it was easy to get burnt out on. Now so many years later without the constant reminding of it, it once again becomes a pleasure to hear and listen for the little details. As for those others - yes - cream of the crop.
@@notedrockhistorian4382 OMG I just went and listened to it. Shatner sounds like too much Romulan ale and the group playing the music sounds like the same mix used for Sheryl Crow - All I wanna Do.
Made in Japan was the first GREAT live album. Every song is better than the studio version. FUN FACT: The live version of Smoke on the Water off Made in Japan made the top 40 songs in the US before the studio version! The song got very little exposure on the radio until Made in Japan came out. And now it's considered one of the most important songs in rock history!
Im born in ´64 and Deep Purple was my favorite band in 70s. Another great band playing RB is Dr. Feelgood. Great memories from my youth. Cheers from Denmark
Deep Purple was such a staple of my early teens years. Everyone cruising around in their first beater cars blasting "Smoke On The Water" "Highway Star" and "Woman From Tokyo". Oh man, thanks for bringing those memories back😉
ON BALANCE, worth the 25 PENCE, I paid to see them at The Royal Albert Hall in West London with 5,000 others perform this, in 1973.:) Following week: Creedence Clearwater Revival: Same deal, also 25 PENCE...lol
… „Lazy" is also an absolute masterpiece 💎 ... Rock - Blues that is awesome !! Deep Purple has a lot of good songs ... especially from 1969-1975. 🎸🎹🥁🎤 Thank you
You should give a listen to the live version of this song off Made in Japan. In fact... you should give a listen to that whole album! Deep Purple was the greatest live jam band of their era!!!
That's how we used to roll back in the day. Real musicians reacting to each other to create musical glory. No click tracks, no artificial autotune..... This is the real deal. Only saw them once in concerts back in the 80s, and they were so good!
Aileen, watching you actually raised my blood pressure. In a good way. Your joy for this tune is contagious. Brought back memories of me buying this album in 1972. I was 19 and in a band. Lazy became an instant favorite. Still is for me. Thank you so very much for your honest reactions. God bless you, girl. Keep rockin' and stay groovy!
I was absolutely glued to your reaction….so animated. You made a grumpy old man very happy because it’s so good to see you enjoying music that I grew up listening to and is beginning to become appreciated for what it is…pure rock, played by virtuoso musicians. This song is the essence of Deep Purple, a band (like Lovebites) who really showed their true worth on stage. Jon Lord and Ritchie Blackmore, backed by Ian Paice and Roger Glover could play “Lazy” three nights in a row and it would not only be almost completely different each time but might be a tad shorter or, more often, up to twice as long as the original. Although the band had ceased to exist when I discovered them (Ritchie was breaking new ground with Ronnie James Dio) I did see them after the first reunion and was in the audience for Ritchie’s last ever performance with the band (30 years ago). Once he left, so did I. Not sure but I don’t remember you reacting to the next incarnation of the band (Deep Purple Mk 3) for which I would recommend the song Burn, and suggest you do a little reading up beforehand because it was a slight change in direction but, personally, I now think it was the high point of the band’s career.
Great reaction, Aileen! 70's Rock is some of the best music out there. Another great band is Nazareth, and "Miss Misery" is an Absolute Banger from 1975. Thanks again!
For me there are two words the totally describe this song. PURE ENERGY. Saw them when they toured for this album. One of the all time high energy shows I've ever been to.
As a 65 year old I can say I love your reviews… full of enthusiasm. It feels good watching a much younger person loving the music I grew up with. Incidentally, this track and the whole album Machine Head was recorded in a hotel lobby. This is Mark 2 Deep Purple. I saw them at least four times. I also saw Mark 3 twice. I never saw Mark 4 with Tommy Bolin. Mark 4 produced “Come Taste The Band” considered by many as not a Deep Purple album, even though it is very good. For me though the Mark 2 set up was the best. The last time I saw them was with Steve Morse about 6 years ago, they were brilliant. And what can I say about the man in black Ritchie Blackmore? Fuxxing genius.
I thought I was going crazy at first in the beginning too and thought the audio was being a stinker 😭 Even though the title is “Lazy”, listening to that intro made me wanna get all groovy with how fun it was listening to it!! You describing it as ‘chaotic’ is on point cause one way they’re taking you with the guitars and *BAM* something else entirely comes in 😭 It’s honestly like a madhouse at a carnival with how over the place it is and how much fun it was listening to it! Man was going in with the harmonica like?? As always, it’s so cute watching you have fun with these reacts, especially towards the ending where you threw your hands up 🥹❤️
I was so lucky to 'grow up' with this around me and discovering my love for rock when the 'masters' were most all blues-based musicians taking it to the next level.
Love your reactions Aileen and the joy that the music I was bought up on brings you. Another deep purple track to listen to is ‘Strange kind of woman’ but the live version off ‘Made in Japan’. I think you will love it. ❤
I'm so glad you got around to this song! Another of their songs I think you would love is Hush. It is a cover of an early song, and has since been covered many times. It's such a catchy tune, and I suspect you will have heard the song before, but thought that it was a Kula Shaker song or something.
This has been on my playlist since 1972. My favorite song to just enjoy and make me feel good, the organ riff at the beginning sends a tingle up my spine every time.
Wow, watching you dance to this took me back to the ‘70s when we danced to Deep Purple as contemporary music. Thank you so much, it’s fun to see your youthful energy and cheerful spirit.
Glad to see your reacting to Deep Purple again! Always good. If you haven't reacted to the song 'Highway Star' yet that should definitely be your next Deep Purple reaction!
Deep Purple has such a vast catalog of music to dive into from 1968... Remember, they've had 5 vocalists sing for the band (including bassist/ co-vocalist Glenn Hughes)... But the most iconic line-up was this one (Mark II) w/ Ian Gillan (vocals), Ritchie Blackmore (guitar), Jon Lord (keyboards), Ian Paice (drums) and Roger Glover (bass)... 🤘🤘Which helped define hard rock and metal music. Everyone knows the riff for 'Smoke on the water'... just iconic track 🔥🔥 Check out more of Deep Purple w/ Ian Gillan - 'Fireball' ... 'Woman from Tokyo'... 'Perfect strangers' ... 'Pictures of home' ... 'The battle rages on' ... 'Sometimes I feel like screaming' ... 'Bloodsucker' ... "Knocking at your back door" With original singer Rod Evans - 'Hush' ... 'Lalena' With interim singer Joe Lynn Turner (also of Rainbow) - 'The cut runs deep' ... 'King of dreams' With singer David Coverdale (and bassist/ vocalist Glenn Hughes) - 'Mistreated' ... 'Soldier of fortune' ... 'Lady double dealer' ... 'Sail away'... "Comin' home"
Watching you dance around to this put a smile on my face. I had a friend living with me that slept in until 10 am one morning. I had this song cued up just before the lyrics started and hit play when she got up. She got so pissed at me for saying she was Lazy. Anyway, thanks for the great reaction!
Those were the years 60s, 70s & early 80s. The battle of the best lead guitarist. Blackmore (Deep Purple), May (Queen), Page (Led Zeppelin), Iommi (Black Sabatth), Carlton (Nazareth), Santana (Santana), Jimi Hendrix, John Mayall, Eric Clapton,... etc Superb & awesome.😊😊😊
Girl I ❤your energy while listening to music I had the pleasure of experiencing it when it all took off and brought us all to Rock and Roll. Looking forward to seeing your next adventure in music ❤
Aileen Both late great Jon Lord, keyboardist and Ritchie Blackmore, guitarist of Deep Purple are awesome in this song together. Live version is so iconic!!!
I was gonna say the same thing that this last guy just said but he beat me to it🤨😆Yeah I know how much you like live performances for their energy and camaraderie and the way they play off of each other! Well there’s no better example of that than the live version from ‘72 in Japan 🇯🇵 It’s most definitely one for the ages!! They were in their prime and at their best!! Total banger!!!😝🤟🎸✌️🫶❤
Hi Aileen, Deep Purple, is one of the best bands in history and the Machine Head album is a masterpiece. Another song from this album is Space Truckin!!! Cheers from Chile!!!
Great reaction, Aileen! I loved your enthusiasm for this song. One of the best, if not the best, intros to a song ever! Fantastic musicians showing their talent. I also agree with other comments that the "Made In Japan" version is a must listen :)
The studio versions were often a little cleaner jam session were the guys got to "cook" adding elements as they went along. Certainly much different from other bands of the same era
Never got to see Deep Purple live, but was fortunate enough to see Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and then Whitesnake in 81. After the Whitesnake/Iron Maiden/Priest show went over to the old Holiday Inn Rivermont in downtown Memphis and hung out in the bar (in those days the performers would go to either the Rivermont or Hyatt East). Was around 1am, Jon Lord came in and sat down a few seats away. Never asked for an autograph, just talked and gave him some space to be real. He was a kind soul, great memories. Continue to explore, this era and genre of music has some great stuff! (oh yeah, Whitesnake did perform Lazy, truly cool moment when that keyboard intro faded in!)
I just loved your reaction to this classic Purple jam....so nice to see a person get happy during their first reaction to this rag!! I do remember back to the first time playing this album and like most people wondering is Ian ever going to pop in with some vocals...and then he does...and he brought his harmonica!!
Possibly the best Deep Purple line-up. As an 'old codger' I cna remember this coming out and buying 'Machinehead' and introducing my Mum & Dad to this track on my 18" Wharfdale speakers (not well recieved!) but I loved it and it was one of the 'whirling derrvish' tracks at local clubs as everybody just dashed onto the dancefloor and (like you) let the music take over. Lot's of embroidered loons and teeshirts, REALLY long hair and hedonism. Good times and I think this track captures that mood really well. Glad it got to you! :)
My 2nd favorite Deep Purple song. My favorite being Hush, the one that basically started it all for them. (Hint, hint) I love the way you've embraced all this funky bluesy rock!
"Blackmore is God" was the mantra of us guitar players back in those days. I'll never forget him using a Heineken Beer bottle as a slide when they played the late great Spectrum in Philadelphia in 1981 - and got doused with its contents in the front row when he was done! Ahhh, the memories...🎸😎
This is what pure rock and roll sounds like. I have been listening to DP for as long as I can remember and it doesn't get old. If you have not done so yet, please react to Child in Time (live). It is an amazing song with tremendous vocals.
My first record I bought for my own money.👍🏻 I was about twelve years old, and yes, I stil live it.🤘🏻 Seen DP live but not with Riche though. I love to play it LOUD with headphones.🎧😁
I inherited this album from my older sisters' when they left for college... this and Alice Cooper, The Doors , Janis Joplin.... It was a great era for music. To connect back with at least part of Deep Purple... Ian Gillian sang on Gethsemane. Pure talent. No more Mr. Niceguy on Alice...Peacefrog with the doors...Janis..Break another piece of my heart
I want to commend whomever suggested this song to you. This is by far my favorite Deep Purple song, and that's saying a lot. Also, it was fun watching you dance around.😊 I hope to see you react to some Bad Company sometime. The lead singer, Paul Rodgers is someone Freddy Mercury looked up to, so that should tell you something.
ON BALANCE, worth the 25 PENCE, I paid to see them at The Royal Albert Hall in West London with 5,000 others perform this, in 1973.:) Following week: Creedence Clearwater Revival: Same deal, also 25 PENCE...lol
Your reactto this is just marvelous, I was in high school when this album was released, at that time rock had so many facets to it and we had mucho musica at hand . Rock on girl!
Love your reactions ... Your energy and enthusiasm are infectious... Purple was my favorite band from my high school days.... Glad to see so many reactors discovering them lately... I'd love to see you react to something from their Mk III period... Maybe Mistreated or You Fool No One both from the album Burn ... Live videos for both songs are available from the California Jam... If you do You Fool No One, be sure to go for the full 18+ minute version... Keep rocking it! Cheers!

Quiero ver reacción a 'Pictures of Home' por favor. Saludos.
I have seen them a couple times live on stage and it was always amazing because the guys always had a good time and really enyoid what they did....I had a blast everytime....
it is so cool to watch your reactions on all of that good old rock`n`roll music....it is such a bless a bless to see young people having a blast listening to that kind of music and appreciate it.....that gives me hope for the future.....love you aileen....you are wonderful
The organ in the beginning of that song was actually plyed trough a guitar amp with distortion.....John Lord said "I introduced the beast"....freakin awesome

Around 96 Richie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night formed Blackmore's Knight. It's a Renaissance Folk band. If you like Jethro Tull's mid 70s work you might like them. Not asking for a reaction just recommending you give them a listen. Try Under a Violet Moon.
Something a lot of people don't realize is that the Machine Head album, which includes Lazy, Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Space Truckin', etc...not a bad track on the album, was written and recorded in 16 days!
NICE!!!!!! One of the TOP 2 ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DEEP PURPLE 💜 Songs. The other being SPACE TRUCKIN!! If you like DRUMS and BASS and Guitar 🎸 and ORGAN and SINGING well that song has that stuff 😂 Great Reaction Lady!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️
Hi! I just discovered your channel, because of your reactions to Depp Purple. You had to check these girls. The band is called The Warning. It's a power trio of 3 Mexican sisters.
Hahahaha. I was wondering when you would catch this song. When i was 17 i had a 67 chevelle with a 396. I painted (LAZY) just above the bumper So thats the last thing YOU read when i past you. Lol. This song was usually the first song on my way to pick up my buddies on the back roads with a cold in hand. Then SIMPLE MAN. By skynyrd on the way from dropping them off I can’t wait to see your reaction to that song one day. Thnx for making MINE !!!!!
Hello beautiful how did you like that masterpiece if you listen to the live version check out the 1972 live in Copenhagen absolutely amazing. They have so many good songs keep up the good work and Deep Purple the best rock band
Keyboardist John Lord was the difference that separated Deep Purple from the rest. What can be said about guitarist Ritchie Blackmore that hasn’t been said.
Hi Aileen. Here are a few suggestions of Deep Purple songs you should consider reacting to: - Woman From Tokyo - Pictures of Home - No No No - Rat Bat Blue - Hard Lovin' Man - Fireball - Black Night - Bloodsucker - Mistreated Cheers!

Johnny Winter on slide guitar. The whole album is really great. Using well known musicians is what makes it so.
John Lord got that sound by running the Hammond B-3 through Marshall guitar amplifiers instead of the Leslie speaker cabinet.

Continue to explore, this era and genre of music has some great stuff! (oh yeah, Whitesnake did perform Lazy, truly cool moment when that keyboard intro faded in!)
Of those which you haven’t done ‘ Burn’ and ‘Stormbringer’ are my favourite DP songs.
Nice choice Aileen!
I've been watching reaction videos as long as there's been reaction videos and this is the FIRST time I've seen anyone do this song. THANKS!
Top 3 in the world in his day.
I remember Blackmore doing the same in NY!
Never an odd note from whatever Blackmore was playing his beloved Strat with!
This is what pure rock and roll sounds like. I have been listening to DP for as long as I can remember and it doesn't get old. If you have not done so yet, please react to Child in Time (live). It is an amazing song with tremendous vocals.
My first record I bought for my own money.👍🏻 I was about twelve years old, and yes, I stil live it.🤘🏻
Seen DP live but not with Riche though.
Also, it was fun watching you dance around.😊
I hope to see you react to some Bad Company sometime. The lead singer, Paul Rodgers is someone Freddy Mercury looked up to, so that should tell you something.
Love to hear your reaction to Burn!!.. You'll love the main character...
Jon Lord, Hammond organ through a marshall amplifier. A distinctive sound. Great bass and drums
You just made my favorite Deep Purple song a little better.
The album was recorded in an abandoned hotel (smoke on the water tells the story) with the Rolling Stones mobile. Truly iconic. RIP Jon. Sadly missed
Roger never got the credit that he deserved. Nor did Ian (Paice). Best brush player ever.
Deep Purple Mark 2 ....Best Line up ever......SIR JOHN LORD Intro....Perfection.....one of their all Time Live Classics !!!!
ON BALANCE, worth the 25 PENCE, I paid to see them at The Royal Albert Hall in West London with 5,000 others perform this, in 1973.:)
Following week: Creedence Clearwater Revival: Same deal, also 25 PENCE...lol

Sweet reaction Aileen!
Your spontaneity is infectious.
Cheers!

I was born in the golden era of music 1960 and today i am a happy young man on my 64 yrs old.
And the only good band we have now is POETS OF THE FALL because they are still playing today.
Excellent - now listen to the live version from their album 'Made in Japan' ... even more chaotic and even better.
Wow,DP is the best of all the best👏👏👏Thank u for sharing,Aileen🥰🥰🥰
Wow the ever lovely Aileen, still looking as vibrant as ever rocking out to deep purple, keep the smile going my dear you will always win me over lol.
The organ in the beginning of that song was actually plyed trough a guitar amp with distortion.....John Lord said "I introduced the beast"....freakin awesome
They're tremendous musicians !!!
It's fun to see your reactions to my favorite songs from the Head Machine album, I like your video about Deep Purple, thank you
Lazy was always my favorite Purple song.
My first Deep Purple listen was Highway Star, Lazy and Space Truckin. Haven’t been able to stop listening since.
Deep Purple, the best. Intro just so legendary. Great reaction like always. 💋from 🇮🇹🇧🇪🇪🇺💯.
ON BALANCE, worth the 25 PENCE, I paid to see them at The Royal Albert Hall in West London with 5,000 others perform this.
Following week: Credence Clearwater Revival: Same deal, also 25 PENCE...lol
1973 "Creedence"
It's so nice to see you share the emotion.
Great reaction to this awesome band! Great music like this lives on forever 😇
Thaaanks for Lazy! 💜💜💜
Basically what every one else wrote. I just love watching your reactions. So I’m reacting to your reaction! Lol❤️❤️
Keyboardist John Lord was the difference that separated Deep Purple from the rest. What can be said about guitarist Ritchie Blackmore that hasn’t been said.
Another great Band! of Course so many back in the late 60's and all thru the 70's
Hi Aileen. Here are a few suggestions of Deep Purple songs you should consider reacting to:

- No No No
- Rat Bat Blue
- Hard Lovin' Man
- Fireball
- Black Night
- Bloodsucker
- Mistreated
Cheers!
