Millie, you really need to listen to Mark 1 tracks. The ones worth listening to are Hush - Mandrake Root - Help! - Hey Joe - Kentucky Woman - Exposition/We Can Work It Out - Shield - Anthem - River Deep, Mountain High - Lalena - Why Didn't Rosemary? - Bird Has Flown - April. Also, from Mk II, you must listen to Place In Line.
Even though I am old as dirt now, I was fortunate to see Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Vanilla Fudge on their US tour for this album in 1972. Funny thing was Vanilla Fudge, and Black Sabbath opened for Deep Purple. The keyboardist is the amazing Jon Lord, singer Ian Gillian, guitar Ritchie Blackmore, bass Roger Glover and drums Ian Paice. It was one of the most amazing concerts of my life and I have seen a lot. Basically the whole audience was doing what you are now. :)
Jon Lord on the organ & keyboards for Deep Purple... 🤘🤘He was a classically-trained pianist and composer, and he co-founded Deep Purple around 1968 w/ Ritchie Blackmore (guitar)and Ian Paice (drums)... In 1970, Deep Purple wanted to make 'heavy rock' music like Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix, so they got Ian Gillan (lead vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) and made history w/ 4 major albums - "In rock" (1970)... 'Fireball' (1971)... 'Machine head' (1972) and 'Who do we think we are' (1973)... in addition, a historic live album 'Made in Japan' (1972). Jon Lord played his Hammond organ through a guitar amp, so he his sound was as heavy and powerful as Blackmore's guitar. Deep Purple carried on until 1976 w/ David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals) before disbanding... Jon Lord and his friend Ian Paice eventually joined Whitesnake (David Coverdale's band) until 1984, when Deep Purple reunited w/ Gillan, Blackmore, Lord, Paice and Glover... internal tensions finally lead to Ritchie Blackmore leaving Deep Purple a second time in 1993. Jon Lord kept going w/ Deep Purple until 2002... he expressed interest in making classical music again, and left the band cordially... Don Airey (keyboards) replaced him... Sadly, Jon Lord passed away from cancer in 2012... (R.I.P. legend) He was honored by Deep Purple, Whitesnake, and even recently by Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) w/ a tribute tour for Jon Lord as 'Concerto for group and orchestra' (which was the Deep Purple concerto project that he organized way back in 1969). U can watch Jon Lord interviews online... He was such a gentleman and a profoundly articulate in talking about his music and works.
You might be interested to know they wrote this song in a day. They were in an interview when asked how they write a song and they came up with backbone of the song. Went to rehearsal showed the other guys and performed the song live that night! I like Purple but knew some fanatics. Great reaction!
Deep Purple is one of my favorite bands. Was actually able to play drums with Ian Gillan in Hawaii while they were practicing for a concert in Hawaii in the mid 80's.
Deep Purple this the classic line-up (is their best) and this album Machine Head are iconic in Rock history. Jon Lord (RIP) is one of my all-time favorites on keys. But two others to check out are Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson.
The keyboard player's name is John Lord, he passed away a few years ago. Deep Purple is One of my Big favorite Bands of all time, and this Album Machine Head released in 1972 is a Masterpiece!! Thank You for reacting this Legend Band.
Great reaction! --- When I used to play my 8 track tape of this in my 1969 Chevelle SS 396 it could at times be difficult to not press down on the skinny peddle. The song always wanted me to wind it out. It was still the same when driving my 1973 Dodge Challenger 340 after blowing up the engine in my Chevelle. No, I didn't lay off the skinny peddle enough in the Chevelle and wound her out one too many times. The 70's were so much fun in so very many ways!
Congratulations! You have discovered the greatest band in the world, EVER. The best thing is that they are still touring and still making new fabulous music🤩
you are absolutely right, I have seen it this year during the DP live show in Solo Indonesia, it was amazing. DP is the greatest true rock band has ever of the world.
Even more epic... especially if you like those keyboards and guitar solo.... Lazy (preferably from the Machine Head album) It is my favorite DP song of all.
Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Jon Lord, Roger Glover, Ian Paice. Still legends. Also later: David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes, Joe Lynn Turner, & Joe Satriani notable among others.
MILLIE, Purple was another one of those bands from England, that rock your face off and melted your brain.. They along with several other bands liked and used a Hammond Organ. These instruments had/have a distinct sound... Purple was one of the MANY rock bands around as I was growing up. Their biggest song & one you must jam too, is "Smoke on the Water." Darn good tune! Another is "My woman from Tokyo".. You'll LOVE them... And lastly, I want to - must tell you thank you for exploring music in this time period... Take care lovely lady AND stay safe! I have an answer to your keyboard question. His name is Jon Lord. Deep Purple are doing some shows now. Several in South America and a few in Europe... Mean time, you rock on lady --- ROCK & ROLL...... I adore your energy!!!! Some more Purple songs --- Hush, Burn, and Child in Time...... Get down girl!
Haaaaa... that was great ... I love seeing folks react to music from my era, and it's so fun to think back to my first listen as well. We used to jam this album. Actually, I should say 8 track in the car. Keep spreading the music around God bless❤🎉
There isn't one bad track in Deep Purple's 1972 album 'Machine head'... from "Highway star" to "Space truckin' " ... Stellar 🎇heavy rock album. And also the live album "Made in Japan" recorded in Japan on the 'Machine head' tour 1972... it is a live album w/ no overdubs in the studio and cost only $3000 to record (Queen's 1975 album 'A night at the Opera' cost 40K Pounds).
❤ millie. Warms the ❤️ keeping the 70’s alive. Rock on millie. Rock is lagging. Please dive deep and write some rock songs so folks will remember the 2000’s
Legend has it that while travelling on their tour bus a reporter asked them how they go about writing a song. Skipping the long explanation, they wrote Highway Star right there in the bus. Later that night they played it live during their gig. Since you asked, Jon Lord is/was their keyboard player.
'72 and 17, I was rockin' to this! Jon Lord really excels on the Hammond. At one time known as the loudest rock band to exist! "Nobody's gonna take your Jon". 🤣
He is a great keyboard player along with Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer and Rick Wakeman from Yes. Those were the 3 best keyboard players from the 70's.
Jon Lord was heart of Deep Purple... Founder of the band. He was in every line-up until he wasn't able to play. By a lot of people this song is considered to be first heavy metal song (even that than heavy metal wasn't the thing). And Machine Head is probably one of albums that mostly influenced this genre. One possible way of hearing this song is the cover in The Expanse S03E07 (in Belter language, but the music is pretty copy of the original).
Hell yeah!!! You said it right. Jon Lord's distortion based keyboards are his signature. Richie Blackmore on guitar was one of the original shredders and epic guitarists. Another song similar to this is on the first Blue Oyster Cult album called Stairway to the Stars. I think you'll love it!!! Also listen to Transmaniacon MC the first cut on the album. Another epic song and album.
Saw the Machine Head tour at the Rainbow Theatre London in 1972- loudest PA at the time. John Lord- Keyboard genius. Millie- so wild and crazy today. Carefull you do't get too over excited ****.
The story behind this song is interesting as well it was written in about 15 minutes on the tour bus on their way to the next show and performed that night. This song is incredibly dangerous to listen to in the car as it can result in many speeding tickets.
I played in bands my whole life and I can tell that you would be fun to do that with. I love how you totally get into it and notice all of it. Hello M s. Millie, I'm glad that you were able to hear this song. Here is a video of a busking trio covering this song. I think they do an impressive job: UA-cam video: Street artists: Highway star (Deep Purple cover)
You simply must do the BBC live version of Child in Time. Jon Lord at his very best on his cut down Hammond P3 organ. The notes hit by Ian Gillan are out of this world. Add in Ian Paice on drums, Roger Glover on bass guitar and the legend himself, Ritchie Blackmore on lead guitar. It is from their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock.

Another Best on keyboard is Keith Emerson with his Band Emerson, Lake and Palmer. And another excellent gitar player you have to listen to is Jeff Beck.
This song will really get your blood flowing. Still a staple on classic rock stations. Don't drive while playing this song in your car. Ritchie and Jon usually solo on most of their songs, so try another. 'Lazy' is a good one.
Millie - You're epic! Your reaction was as sincere and spontaneous as one could appreciate. You did my heart wonders watching the joy and appreciation you expressed to one of all-time great rock tunes by one of the greatest rock bands in history. Thanks for giving me a laugh and smile. God Bless Millie - and now try Space Truckin' from the same album ...
Jon Lord, although he passed away almost 11 years ago, is a legendary keyboard player, ,along with Keith Emmerson and many others. He put his Hammond through that Marshal amp and created a sound that is almost impossible to recreate nowadays...of course his skills were like "god mode".... That was the legendary Deep Purple Mk II you saw and listened to there and that is the opening track from the Machine Head album (1972). If you wanna "dive" more in Deep Purple, listen to the Fireball album. Actually, every album will be good to listen to! 🤣 P.S.: Here's another awesome version ua-cam.com/video/xl6rNOmkajU/v-deo.html

Could you Please react to Rory Gallagher?? His music and live performances are awesome.
Hi Millie, always enjoy your reactions 🙂👍, didn't you react to "Highway Star" a while back though?
You need to hear the live version on Made in Japan. Really wild!!!
This song has so many drivers getting caught for speeding.
How fortunate to be young during late 1960s thru the 1970s. I would not trade that to be young today.
Graduated from HS in NYC in 1971. Every band came through town and concerts/shows is what we did all the time.
The whole Machine Head album is a classic. Lots more to react to.
