      Cutting the front spring mounts was what we did in the 70's to fit a FE engine . Falcons got the same treatment . Spring helpers were needed as were decent brakes . Stopping a Big block 'stang was always a white knuckle event .😅

      Oh yes. Mine too and the coupe 1968 is the absolute summit of American automotive design, of all time. Front to back with that glorious set of concave taillights. There's not 1 vehicle body style I'd takeover it and that includes the glorious Aston Martins of the era. And I grew up in England.

    Back seat is a 68 Mustang seat. The front seats look like they are out of a falcon. The radiator from the factory will fit a 20" radiator. You have to cut it for a 24" radiator. The shock towers look like they were modified to fit headers. So, my guess would be, they had a big block in the car with headers. And needed a bigger radiator to keep the bigger motor cool. Also they took the hinges off for a removable hood. In the trunk, those are factory export braces. Not aftermarket.

    • @flatbrokegarage
      @flatbrokegarage  6 місяців тому

      Thanks! Great to know. I bolted the driver's seat in to move the car, and the tracks lined right up with the holes. Must be some kind of Ford seat, or at least the tracks are. Guess I'll just put a 20" rad in. It's just going to get a 302. I appreciate the info. Hope you follow along. I can use all the help I can get.

      With what I have seen on my sons mustang, the best way to clean the rust is with a laser beam. The guy on halfass customs bought one and uses it a lot. My son blasted the entire bottom of his car and it cleaned up well. Sand bladting is way messier than laser blasting.

      @richardgabel33 I own a sandblaster. May give it a shot.

    This is a good project car. You will need a donor to make this realistic. Already planning to not paint it is a mistake. Unless this gets way better, once mustang is farther along, I am done with this channel. This is hillbilly at best. Hope no one gets hurt.

      I think you're missing the point of this car. My plan is to give my daughter a running project car she can do on her time. I'm trying to pass this hobby on to a younger generation. My gole is to keep some of these cars alive. If you're looking for a 100-point show car, you're definitely on the wrong channel. I'm just an old fat retired dude who loves old cars. As far as "hillbilly" goes. Sure, I can accept that, but then you must also put David Frieburger, Steve Dulcich, Mike Finnigan, and about 80% of the car channels on UA-cam. Not all of us have unlimited money to dump into a car. We just want to enjoy them.

      Thanks for the response but no I am not missing the point. My older son’s first car was a 69 Mustang convertible which he was told he could buy with money he earned. He bought his car at the age of 13 and worked on it for three years when he got his license to drive. The difference I see on UA-cam is the amount of rust and shoddy workmanship done on these cars. What I can say is when he completed work it was painted red with a black soft top. Interior was all new and black. Near the end of his build cash was 2/3 out of my pocket but still some out of his. We pulled the engine and trans. He honed cylinders, installed new rings and bearings along with new seals and freeze plugs. He rebuilt the auto trans himself as a 14 year old boy. Nothing hillbilly on his car. Later he installed a Lincoln rear axle because it gave him rear disc brakes. Anyone that professes to be a car nut and uses old license plates to cover holes in the floor should be barred from posting videos as younger people will see that crap and think it is fine and safe. Even Eric of Vicegrip Garage pulls that crap at times. If you are broke, there are ways to build a safe good looking car. Clean and coat the frame...new bushing along with new suspension parts. Personally, I still have my first Corvette which was the second car I owned. My son drives a newer Mustang so I think I know about building with nothing but in every case the focus was safety, looks, and performance. As that young man, he brought home trophies from local car shows while on his limited budget. I feel certain I won’t watch to completion only because I feel too much Afro engineering is coming. I do wish you success and a safe build. I am also retired but find time and money to work on my Corvettes, Hummer, motorcycles, and motorhome without claiming to be broke. Stay safe.

      @richardgabel33 we do agree on many points, that's for sure. I'm am not a license plate guy at all. If you look at my 71 Torino build, it will be a spot on restoration as well as I can do. I have lots of time and money invested into it. It has already been invited to MCACN (muscle car and Corvette nationals) this fall. If I finish 😆 I have a 1964 Cyclone that is all original, and as for now I just don't have the heart to restore it. It's done hot rod power tour and is extremely reliable. I bet you're proud of your son, that's quite an accomplishment. And you just can't replace that time you spent together. Well, I hope you stick around. I do have a donor car (1977 Granada with 56k miles) should be something to move it around till we find something better.

      So... don't make my daughter happy and spend time with her? Just let her drive a Hyundai and be just another drone bee on the road playing on their phone? She owns a nice house with a 2.5 car garage works 4 miles from home, will have insurance in case its stolen she also owns a 2018 Hyundai.

      Or what if the car gets stolen a lesson to be learned, she could buy a pick up truck or a jeep or any other car with bad gas mileage just because it’s shiny and new or could buy a beater car that everyone claims is reliable to only have it breakdown. There’s a thousand possibilities and what if’s in the world but who’s to say any of it will happen? If his daughter is happy then I think it’s a win and that he loves her and is helping her create something that will give her knowledge and understanding.

      @thebootynotzi3807 some people just choose a safe, boring life. That's fine. What ever makes you happy I guess. I'm proud I can give my hard working daughter a car that she's always dreamed about, but would never buy because she never would splurge

      My 66 looked similar to this when we started. I would now trust it to go across country and would put it against most modern cars for reliability. New does not always equal better.

      I agree, I've done Hot Rod Power Tour for 14 years. Drove tons of miles and parked it all kinds of places never an issue. Look at all the recalls nowadays
