- We headed over to Kiwi's this morning with the goal of getting his 57 Buick up and running, but that mission was abandoned once we began looking over this early Mustang that has been dropped off for a couple seemingly minor repairs.

It's likely that they didn't restore the car, and are just the seller. Typically guys like that don't bother to inspect the cars, and have an arbitration process. It's always buyer beware.

I do not go for that bullshit of buyer beware without holding criminal actions to account. That is why our society is falling apart, every asshole out there thinks to themselves that they can commit whatever crime their selfish little heart desires so long as they don't get caught. But if they do get caught, it still is not their fault because "buyer beware". Fuck that noise!
Yes, the buyer "should" beware, and the seller "should" be held accountable for their actions. They may not have done the work, but they damn sure knew the "work" was shit and sold the car anyways describing it as "running and driving". Nothing I saw said as-is. That led the buyer to believe the car was a safe, running and driving vehicle.
@@jailbird1133 I would have to disagree about the seller being unaware. Almost all Classic car sellers go over their cars whether they are on consignment or owned by the dealer. At least the ones I have dealt with over the years. And I am 74 and been a mechanic my whole life.
Karens always find a way to blame someone else for their own stupidity. Rule number one is don't buy anything like this unless you know who built it, and they are willing to work on it or at least willing to list everything they did and the source for the parts.@@jailbird1133
Tuff call on the consignment. These people are not classics car specialists. They consign all types and makes from Bugatti and Porsche to Chevrolets and Fords. Granted the obvious such as the wiring bumper and attachment. This may have been addressed to the buyer. We don't know but as far as the suspension and engine positioning. I couldn't tell you if an engine is installed in the correct spot for a Lamborghini because I never did one. And the average salesman along with the buyer are probably in the same boat. Consignment businesses should hire a professional advisor / appraiser to negotiate with the seller and draw up legal documents to cover for stuff like this. It protects the consignment the buyer and the seller.
FINALLY!!! I've been waiting for someone to expose "Streetside Classics" for the fraudulent price gouging thieves they are. I peeped their game a few years ago. I'm glad this video exists now. So, if any potential customers of theirs do any research at all, they've been warned. This video has been needed for awhile now
in my opinion they are the buy here pay here of classic cars... they will get about anyone financed, they offer super crazy long finance terms so the buyer can have cheap payments on the cars htey overpay for.. granted they do have some good cars at times , but anyone buying from them needs to be estute and really inspect their purchase and see how far down they can talk the deal and compare.. they can get their terms long as in general "most" buyers take care of a classic and plan to keep it nice over the years and own it a long time.. typically (unless you get a turd like this mustang) classics increase in value.. they also have a lot of con signment cars too.. so who knows what you get from that unless you inspect or hire out an inspection.. id think on a 40K classic you'd spend the coin to get an inspection which in less than 30 minutes shop time wouldve said run run run... if the consigning owner wont let it be driven off to an sinspection shop well then the answer is clear...

Cars are a generation dependant demand, so long as the generation that grew up with said car are still buying they increase but eventually they have massive price drops due to the aging out process. This drop happened to cars from the 20's and 40's decades ago and will eventually happen to the 60's classics as well. You can see the start of this trend based on the skyrocketing valuations of 90's " collector cars" as genx and millennials age into buying hobby cars and baby boomers are starting to slowly pass away leaving more 60's cars behind. Slowly demand will be outpaced by supply.
@@jonf2009 maybe on some models? but I have friends who are gettinfg insane miney for perfectly restored model T's and non made manufacturers like packards and dusenburgs and old cadillacs of the era.. i see what you are saying that it has to do with who is buying.. I do think though that because of hollywood's golden years having a bunch of 50-70s cars in it you'll see popularity for a long time as classic movies seem to stand the test of time even with gen Z..but I can see where grocery getters of an era that once were classics in their own way fall out of popularity vs the chevelles and GTO's and Hemi cudas, mustangs, etc.. for one, its obvious many millenials and gen Z cant pick up even a screwdriver let alone change a set of plugs N wires , tune up a carb, and put new points in those that still have it... and mechanics who still know how to do it are obviously dwindling... so it means big $$ for a specialty shop to do even simle things that true car enthusiasts.. esp older ones did on their own..

It comes to show that Streetside Classics is NOT a reputable used car dealership. They got caught trying to flip an unsafe and overpriced Classic and trying to cover their tracks. When they ask to take a video down, it shows they are a risky business.
I blame the customer and the entire classic car culture. This is the kind of shenanigans you get when you over value ANYTHING.
Mustangs were a cheap crappy car with sporty overtones. There were crap when the were new, they wenr through a period when they were looked down on, but the comes along ppl with more money than sense and the next thing we have are crap cars that are so expensive, only rich idiots can a afford them.
Yep. Streetside classics is way overpriced and don't stand by their cars. They'll try to sell you a problematic car and even hide the cars problems.

These were marketed as a secretaries car. Had some even completley restored I was turned off how it drove, just didnt get the feeling it was a solid car.
We have a Streetside Classics here in Charlotte/Concord NC as well. They have monthly open house/car show where you can walk through their entire showroom of hundreds of vehicles. I have always questioned some of the garbage that they have on consignment there. You can smell the fresh paint on so many of the cars there and you can clearly tell which ones are flipper cars. Trucks with rusted out beds with paint shot over the crust. The worse one was a silver mid 60's Corvette with a LS swap in it that you could see the chunks of fiberglass that had been cut out and replaced under the bubbled "new" paint job. This cobbled up monster had a $128,000 price tag on it.
I agree there aren`t hundred`s of old classic cars in mint condition that are available for sale in the USA, let alone in one city and then one dealer, yet old & young fools still blow their big money and then go on tv and say they can`t afford to feed their family or pay their mortgage

everyone has the opportunity to vet the car they are buying, the courts will throw the case out on that alone. he/she owns it now. ALL USED CARS ARE SOLD AS-IS UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE they don't have to put it in "the ad" it is in the paper work he/she signed I guaran damn tee it. and...its to big to be a paper wieght.
@@SuperDrumwolf not true 100% of the time...depending on jurisdiction...if the seller is a car dealer they have to provide a free and clear title as well as a car that is safe to drive and would pass inspection...this definitely would not pass a safety inspection for that front end alone....where i am from dealers can sell as is...but is has to clearly state "parts only" on the transfer form.

They should have bought one in the 90s and all the way up to mid 2000s before social media. This mustang would be a 2,500 dollar car.
I know enough about cars to do my own repairs, etc. but have been caught out a few times myself because I don't know all the tricks of the used car trade, nor do I have anywhere near the knowledge of a working mechanic. Good advice to bring someone who knows what to look for 🙂

I had a mechanical business in the 90s where people would pay for us to inspect prestige cars for them prior to purchase...
We ended up with such a reputation that dealers wouldn't allow us on their property any more.
The best advice is in the video - Pay someone who knows what they're looking for, it's cheap insurance.
Whoever set this sale up and said this thing is worth 38 grand should get 38 years of prison

The last stat I saw was 30k a year for a person in prison.
So 16months. Plus what it takes then to pay back. So based on going rates for incarcerated employees.... Carry the 2... Mind the income taxes.... Life.
The answer is life.
No prison time. It was probably someone's first car project. They did their best. Buyers need to do their due diligence and inspect the car or have it inspected if they cannot do it themself. Cars this age are sold "as-is" for a reason.

@@sqhatr Some of the mayhem is pure incompetence, rather than cynical cost-cutting. Whoever made this was not very knowledgeable about the trade. There are thousands of old cars with "fixes" made by non-car guys (like me), and they are often made because someone lacked the knowledge/skills/tools to do it right.
The real crime is selling this through a dealership that should have been competent and responsible enough to find these flaws, but didn't.
Consumer protection laws in Denmark where I live prevent things like this from happening... That dealership would have been held responsible for correcting the dangerous mistakes around the front end/engine placement, at least.
I almost bought a 65 barracuda from that same vendor. I had it inspected. 8 pages of problems. I passed but shared all the problems. They never changed the add one bit. Best 500 I have ever spent
I saw one of those classic car joints had advertised on flea-bay a 62 Plymouth 2door, with a picture of the trim tag, which decoded showed it was actually a 4 door. I pointed out to him that fact and commented that maybe he should disclose that in his ad. He agreed with me that from the factory it was a four door, that was recently converted to a 2 door. He never disclosed that in his ad afterward. People need to do their homework.
Sounds like only the radiator cap and fuel cap passed inspection.

It’s just sad for the whole car industry. This is exactly why you really need to have the car inspected by somebody that is competent to do it to protect your interests.

I recently bought a beautiful 65 Corvair from someone who is 2000 miles away, and had it shipped to me, so I never looked at anything more than some photos. A few differences is that I sort of knew the seller. Another is that the top Corvair expert in the US had looked it over. Oh, and the major difference is that *every single flaw* was disclosed to me before purchase, and I got the car at a pretty good price. The car was even nicer than the seller said and he had sent me a zillion pics. So far, all but a couple of the flaws have been fixed (by me), and I absolutely just love this car!. So far, I've spent maybe $1000 on parts, so the car is still more valuable than what I paid for it!

The corvair community is relatively small, at least enough to have an oversight of the prominent names of experts. The chicago area guy is in fact one of the biggest experts on these cars.
I love Corvairs. I hate Mustangs.

I would imagine MOST of the general public would be tricked by the shiny, beautiful paint even though it's painfully obvious to us how awful this poor Mustang has been treated. This poor Mustang has been mistreated so bad that even the glue factories wouldn't buy it !

Deathtrap. Forget the seat belts. One front end collision and the flames from the gas line severing, the engine and suspension dislodging and compressing the driver's compartment or from the battery flying toward your head or the sparking of chaffed wires you will kill you just the same. Seat belts would only hold you in longer to fry.
That thing might not even make it to an accident. One hard braking or a fast turn is plenty to start things bending on those thin rails.

agree somewhat as I own one. very unsafe compared to modern cars, but you don't daily drive one over 40 mph for short hops about town or short commutes. All antiques are "unsafe". It also lacks a 50/50 distribution and the C4 has a 1st gear lockout for any weather to reduce wheelspin, making it almost a single speed trans off highway.
Not sure if you are referencing the additional risks from the ridiculous reengineering done to this one or not. I do think its worse than factory. Not a lot unless pushed to the extreme and likely deadly sort of crash anyway. Ford was recently pushing safety (which didn't pay off in sales), and the lap belts are quite good in the 66. Your head would slam into the steering wheel and crack, so in 67-9 there's a big pillow in the middle that looks dumb and is never there in a swap. Also the 66 GT often came with first edition of Disc brakes, and sometimes the world's first OEM 8-track. Still had a single cylinder brake tho. (I am not sure when lap belts became standard)
BTW, in a wreck Newton's Laws of motion means loose stuff keeps moving. So the parts in front of you would move forward, and its anything loose in the back seats (such as tools) that can kill you. The battery would only move toward the driver if struck from behind. And being struck is much less delta than slamming into something at speed, so unless you were doing 40 in reverse, the battery cannot kill you.
Bullshit. I had several wrecks when I was a teenager with 65 and 66 Mustangs. I hit a semi an 45 mph and I didn't get hurt and the car just needed the front end metal replaced. Hit another car and same thing. Just damaged the metal and radiator. I didn't have a seat belt on either

the builder was just clueless... they did MORE work by not installing a fox body pan.. the crossmember debacle is clear they thought the M-II swap was an easy thing to do.. after all thats what the forums will tell you .. just buy a kit and go.... its great so many kits and classic restomod parts exist.. as it would be near impossible to source original parts these days.. However it also allow a lot of half-assers to put things together that end up being unsafe or at the very least uncomfortable to drive..

I just found your channel, and wanted to thank you. Your advice is spot on. When I bought my 1964 T-bird convertible (4 years ago) I looked at a few 64 and 65s along the way. I spent about $800 having three of them inspected before I bought the one I ended up with, which I also had inspected. I am SO glad I did. The one I purchased had a few tiny cosmetic issues (Chrome pitting on interior trim and a couple small Paint imperfections), and two worn-out rear window motors, that did not come across in the ad. But the rest of it was in great shape and properly restored with the proper, year-correct parts. I snatched it up. The three others I looked at were much more questionable. One was original, except for the gorgeous-looking re-paint. It was literally worn out and needed so much to make it right--the convertible mechanism was shot (thousands and thousands of dollars), the gauges didn't work and the wiring was dangerous. I passed. The other two were cheaper, but COMPLETE abominations, both had three different years of parts, butchered wiring; they were high-priced money-pits. The inspectors told me to run. I spent a little more on the one I bought, and while not concourse, it is a stunning car that does very well at car shows and cruises beautifully.
A lot of these internet sellers have no problem screwing buyers over and hide behind attorneys when they get caught. I got push-back when I said i wanted an inspection from those dealers, they said, "well you can, but if it sells before then, you're out of luck." Classic cars are often emotional purchases, and these guys prey on that. Don't get suckered. Always have your car inspected. A $200 inspection may seem like a lot, especially if you have to do it 3 or 4 times to find the right car, but it saved me tens of thousands of dollars. Funny enough, one of the cars I looked at, and the worst of the batch, was offered by the same consignment seller as your Mustang. It apparently sold (the ad disappeared a month after i bought mine. I feel sorry for the folks who bought it.

As much as you hate to see it, these types of videos are always so amusing and entertaining to me. There’s more of this than ever before, it seems like, and I appreciate you making potential buyers aware of things like this. Always be skeptical when dishing out this sort of money for cars like this!
Every single piece of this car is available aftermarket. The time and cost of doing all of this the right way was miniscule. This is truly mental.

@@jayweiss4378 Kiwi did point out in the trunk, there were only a couple tack welds on the quarter panel. And these cars use every bit of the body as part of the overall structure. A minor hit to either bumper would fold this thing like a bad poker hand.

The cost of doing it right would have ate into the profits. The price would have stayed the same. The goal of folks that do that is to maximize profits. They don't care what happens after the sale, as they feel they are protected by selling it "as is", ECT.
So sad, no telling the kind of stress a bad purchase like this can cause on the home front. I’m constantly amazed at the nice paint finishes these cars always seem to have, but knowing their penchant for cutting corners, it’s beautiful paint on aluminum rivets and inch thick putty.
Yup, it’s always the paint and chrome that are on point, the rest could be a hack job. They know what they’re doing and don’t at the same time.
Pretty paint hides a lot, and attracts attention. And most buyers don't look any deeper if it looks good.
this is actually criminal the way this vehicle has been put together. this car is to dangerous to be driven on public roads. someone could get killed including an innocent bystander. charges should be brought to whomever did this so called work. WHAT OTHER VEHICLES ARE LIKE THIS OUT THERE ?
many many moons ago I got a 1998 neon from a dealer. We filled the contract (hand written), I read it it seem fine, but I noticed still a lot of empty space on the last line. After we signed it, we got distracted by another one of their guys and at some point he filled that empty space with something like "Sold As-Is. No Warranty". Drove it home, and the next day there was a puddle of oil in the garage, long story short the block had a crack. Came back to them, and he pointed out the "Sold As-Is. No Warranty". Lesson learned, never trust those guys...

I remember going with my uncle years ago to a buy here lot and test drove some 80s Chevy Cavalier. We didn't even make it out of the lot and it didn't have no brakes we left it there with the keys in the ignition and got in our car and drove off....

My late godfather's brother was in the used car biz in the late 1970's. His lot was a former gas station on the outskirts of a small town, so he had a lift to repair cars bought at auction. Cars were parked wherever there was room, helter skelter, no neat lines of cars and banners overhead. His guarantee was just like the ones mentioned here. In his mind, he was providing a service to folks lacking the credit to go to a car dealership. They expected a POS that wasn't going to last long and would only drive locally to avoid big problems and did their own oil change by leaking a quart a week. The brother had a local shadetree mechanic to get cars (we'd call 'em barn finds now) running again cheaply. For example, automatic transmissions would be "fixed" with Ford ATF that tightened up shifts for a while.
Only saw it once or twice a year because it was out of state, but I learned as much as I could about "shadetree mechanicery" --how not to repair a car.
Guaranteed for 30 feet or 30 seconds ... whichever comes first.

Many years ago I restored a 64 Falcon. . This stuff would have immediately jumped out as being wrong, since the 64 Falcon and 65 Mustang are twins under the skin. Now I understand that many people who buy these cars don't have any experience with such a cars prior to purchasing it. The question that begs is this: Why would anyone drop $40K on a classic are with no warranty before they have the car inspected by a knowledgeable individual?

I love when you visit Kiwi's Playhouse and show us total butchery. These vids are all gold. I honestly don't feel overly bad for the buyer.. I mean c'mon dude. How can you be even slighly in to cars and not see a bunch of this stuff like the fender rub n bumper etc and not red flag it in yer mind. My friend's teen daughter knows nothing about cars but when she was looking for a ride she noticed many sketchy things on a few she looked at and wisely passed on them. (zip ties, masking tape with paint etc on car lots.)

I believe that the car was purchased on line, so likely unseen by the buyer. I DO feel bad for the guy because he expected that he was dealing with an honest and above board dealer, someone who had his best interests at heart. I think that many people who buy from these type of clowns are not car people as we know them, but just want that "dream car", and have reached the point in their lives when they can finally do it. They trust that in no way would a dealer with such a fancy web site and large inventory screw them to such a degree. After all, the guy from the dealer was so friendly and helpful on the phone. How would they survive if they were dishonest? Totally shameful.

When they built it, at least they were consistent with their butchery throughout the build.
I was asked to check over a Datsun C110 coupe for someone before the prices went completely insane. I took over 50 photos and emailed them to the potential buyer with the advise to steer well clear of it. It had fresh paint over very bad body, and was basically a car in boxes.

I didn't want a Mustang II clip for my V-8 Ranger swap. But, I bought a complete TransDapt "Swap In A Box" kit and even that came with a Fox Body oil pain and pickup.
I'm betting they didn't buy a kit. They just bought a generic Mustang II crossmember off eBay and welded it on.

I had a 65 Mustang for 5 years. Bought it for 1350 dollars back when they were out of vogue . ie just an old car. Had a 200 I6 in it and an automatic. 13 inch tires. The rear axle gears were shot. The Ford dealer had no 3.20? gears for it. So I had 3.50 new gears placed in it. That rig would burn rubber since it had dinky 13 inch tires and the 3.50 gears.
It burned a quart of oil every say 300 miles. I did the compression test adding oil to the sparkplug holes and it was not the rings.
So pulled the head and had pressed in valve guides installed. The stock are the casting itself.
This Head rebuild made the oil consumption drop ny 5 to 6. Ie 1500 to 1800 miles per quart.
Ported and polished the intake/head myself with JC Whitney Port polish kit.
That car when new sold by a San Fransisco Bay area dealer. So instead of having stock 2.73 gears came with a 3.2 since hilly.
Changed the speedo gear for transmission to be correct for 3.50 gears
Instead of going to say 95 to 100 with the 3.2 gears the new 3.5 gears were limited by the engine rpm. ie valves would float
So The car did not have a charging Capacitor type to end.
It had a very distinct limit due to the rpm

It was sold "As Is". Legal options will be limited, and would like cost as much, if not more than the cost of the car. The consignment lots get away with it because they are selling someone else's car, and didn't build it themselves, so they can pretend they had no knowledge the car was poorly restored.
$38.000 for a notchback for starters is ridiculous. Now he has to spend another $10.000 ! At Lest.
I see them for sale at around 12k, all day. Some less, some a bit more. This guy paid fast back price. Restored, fastback price.

Ah. I found a beautiful looking 67 Chevelle on the internet at Streetside in Nashville, since I`m 4 hrs away I called trying to get more info on the car before I drove to Nashville with cash in hand. They were very vague about a lot of things which told me they didn`t know squat about the car. It was 136 SS clone, which brought the price down, but still, they couldn`t answer the most basic questions about the history. So I passed on it. I spent my money on a free motorhome 440 and tranny that I rebuilt and installed into my 86 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4. Now I have 4 wheel tire burner, I`m good to go.

A big thing is not getting distracted by the shiny and pretty things. With most of these it's easy to get wrapped up in how great the car looks at first and start thinking everything is in that good of shape. Don't be afraid to fiddle with stuff and move things like mats or carpets if they're not attached. Pulling the gas cap may have highlighted something being wrong.
And, when test driving you need to get into the throttle, brakes, and steering some to see how it responds. Don't need to go crazy, but it needs driven enough to see if it actually runs, shifts, brakes, and steers decent. Even if you couldn't spot the other issues it should have been obvious in the test drive that something was wrong when it'll struggle to keep up with traffic.
"streetside" is urban slang for a broke-down car. Or a parallel park in a crowded college housing area. It suggests a car left to rot in the weather for years. How fitting for these guys to choose this name to sell under. "streetside rustbucket" or "abandoned streetside" would be common usage of the term.
I've helped with several mechanical restorations. Street rods that were death traps, and a couple Chevy pickups that were pretty extreme.
I've always found that you can put a perfectly, mechanically sound truck with some patina next to a shiny turd that runs terrible, the control arm bushings can be completely blown out, shocks not even on the rear. Chicken wire and bondo everywhere. But it will sell for 10k more because it's got a shiny paint job. People walk by a perfect, sorted, mechanically sound truck that will actually drive anywhere and end up with a turd.
That front end is an accident waiting to happen.

Thanks very much for these videos. The selling, at the retail level, of cars like the mustang, has little to no regulation. Many of these so-called 'classic car dealers', are little more than the 'classic' greasy used car salesmen. It's very much a buyer beware industry. Then there's the markup these dealers put on cars. Streetside Classics probably bought that Mustang (wholesale of course) for $15,000. I've seen some of these dealers buying cars at auctions, then putting the car on their website, for double the number they paid. Again, buyer beware.

I can understand wanting to ditch shock tower sheet metal original design and make headers and access easier. But as designed, thay are a structural member - something must be added elsewhere so the front end doesn't fold in on itself like an accordion down the road. This car was teed up for a cracked frame.
Just one look under the bonnet and you'd put your money back in your pocket and leave asap .

That thing is a billiard room showpiece to be marveled at until Uncle Tony sees it.
I started restoring Mustangs in 76 at first glance it has a GT light bar and Pony int door panels and seats. With the hood opened it would have taken me minutes to walk away. In those days there were a number of loaded GT coups, HP, 4 speed pony int style steel wheels and am/fm. I have put a few together for people toughest things to find were the disc brakes and sway bar. Stripe kits for the sides were just comming out but the letters were not available. On the gas filler neck pull it and cut a thick gasket to space it s bit. We would use a 69/70 tank giving you more fuel which means modifications to the connector hose . In those days you would need the upholstery from a rear seat to fix a drivers bucket usually the carpet was good just faded requiring a spray of dye, rechrome bumpers only cost 20 bucks. If you didn't have the 66 GT gas cap well you still didn't have it not available.
If I was a judge and this guy brought this to court I would let him keep the car I would make the company pay him for the car to be repaired to make it Road ready like it was supposed to be and I would make the company pay every dime that kiwi wanted to put the car back to how it should be so it's safe to drive on the road
the dealer is just a middleman. it's a consignment shop, the dealer only provides a showroom and advertising (which is a red flag, btw). look, as much as i sympathize with the buyer, he/she was a nitwit. if you're paying "restored" dough, you should see NOTHING that isn't stock. you should see EVERYTHING that is. the paintjob is wrong. the hood, wrong. right there, walk away flag. the ONLY "sales appeal" it has is actually a warning bell. the "as is/ where is no warranty", ditto. so, assuming the buyer had working eyes, and the ability to look up pics of stock mustangs, the sale NEVER should have happened. this was buying an already torn open bag of potato chips at a yard sale. you kind of lose the ability to complain about the roaches when you do that

That is BS I would do a title search to find the name last listed on the title and bet it is tied to the owners of scamside classics. They are BSing everyone and saying these are consigned vehicles to try and obsolve them of any legalities and complaints. A good lawyer will tear them up in court. You can imply as is, but it not obsolve you of mirepresenting or implying a fully restored classic Mustang..... I would see them in court.
Book as a company you have a responsibility to sell what you are representing they never even looked at this car they looked at the paint on it and sell it for you and then we'll take a commission as a company there's certain laws you have to follow and you cannot receive a customer and from what I've seen on this car there's a lot of deceiving going on as the dealer I would have looked over the car and said take it elsewhere we're not interested in selling it

I get what you’re saying but most of the people who know how are older and tired of doing it. My brother bought his ‘68 fastback from a guy who didn’t want his wife to get it in their divorce. This was in ‘84 and the guy took $1000 cash. I got my ‘68 from a guy in Ballard Wa. for $5200, he couldn’t keep it running so it ended up buried under junk in his garage. Still got the damn thing but where I live a lot of these people don’t have insurance. I take it out once in a while. I’ll drive the shit out of it once I’m retired. I have the original 289 but for now it’s got a 5.0 roller motor and OG auto.

You’d be surprised at what people do. I know a guy who bought a used Lamborghini sight unseen online. It wasn’t a some screaming deal either. It had some issues to say the least. I wouldn’t buy a $500 beater sight unseen personally. Hell I’ve seen major issues with “brand new” cars. Like the one the girl done the street got screwed on. It that got totaled in shipping and were “fixed” with 500 lbs of bondo! She asked me why the paint was cracking on her now 2 year old car that had never been in a accident or repainted? The bondo was 3 inches thick in places on this disaster!
As soon as you see the angle the engine was sitting at you'd know something was wrong. Buyers should educate themselves a bit and we'd have less of these scams happening

Probably a good thing it can only get 20% throttle or those spot welds would come apart & look like you dropped legos from a pail!
That 20% throttle was probably their idea of a safety feature - anything more than that it's a death trap.

Shiny paint can mean rust and dodgy "repairs" hiding under filler
Paint is there to deceive or distract you.
Just got a 79 Fairmont, original faded paint, small rust holes popping here and there, bit of rust in the floor pans, a dent or two here and there, broken gearbox with no reverse, 200 i6 with a shaky idle, dusty carpets and road dirt on the body.
That's what I call an honest car.
After a bit of of work, cleaning, tires and a second hand gearbox it runs like a dream.
I mean mustangs are known to be like this thru 80s. If you want a classic there are companies for 200+/-$$ fully inspect a car 4 you. Im am ex ASE tech and i do it

An original 50 year old car in mint condition is going to bring a ton of money. I'd imagine the majority of people wanting a clean classic are not building it themselves. Having something like this built is going to be time consuming and expensive. The majority are looking for a car built and ready to go.

Would the universal joints be able to handle the angle? These are not CV joints.
I recently dealt with Derrick from Streetside in Charlotte on a 67 Firebird. He went over the car front to back with me and put it on the lift for my inspection. I am very happy with this car and can't say enough about Derrick and my "Streetside Experience"...

I would think ever with it saying "as is - no warranty" there's still some recourse because that car is flat ass unsafe. My dad is a used car dealer and if he ever sold anything like that (he wouldn't ) and someone got into an accident he would be held liable for selling an unsafe vehicle. As far as I'm concerned these "puppy mill" consignment places should be put out of business because they sure as hell don't care about the buyers (or anyone else's) safety.🤬

I am gobsmacked. I am not any kind of mechanic, but I'm a fitter and I have a bit of a history of owning shitboxes that I had to fix/keep going myself. I've had some bad cars, but never anything as pretty yet fundamentally bad as this stang.
That front end job. That would be straight to the experts and get them to do it for me. If I couldn't do that I'd at least talk to people who knew and planned it out carefully. Even I know that the engine sitting on the oil pan like that (more or less) is not the done thing. As to the rest, where do you start indeed.

I have sold on Streetside and they were great to work with. They don’t do an inspection of the car but encourage you to if you’re a buyer.

One of the reasons why numbers matching cars are of the most high importance. Also, a quality inspection is the highest regards before the purchase. This is one of the many reasons why mechanics are needed.
