I have stage 4 and can't eat anything with glutamine or methionine, no sugars, no carbs...meaning strict vegetarian diet is the go to (no avocados)....I'm struggling with what to eat for breakfast because I have to eat with chemopills, 2 times a day, 12h in between, so I can't do fasting either. What should I have for breakfast? Any suggestions?

Oatmeal is my security food. Reminds me of my sainted Mom who fed us oatmeal for breakfast. I’ve been eating oatmeal for years and years. I use steel cut oats and add a little chia, buckwheat, quinoa , peanut butter and protein powder. I turn 83 in December. Love your videos.

Eating the right kind of carbohydrates in the evening, like whole grains or vegetables, can help you sleep better. These foods help your body produce serotonin, a brain chemical that makes you feel relaxed and helps you fall asleep. It's also important because they keep your blood sugar level steady throughout the night, preventing sleep disturbances. Just make sure to eat them a few hours before bedtime, so your body has time to digest. Remember, it's not just about what you eat, but also maintaining a regular bedtime and a comfortable sleeping environment to get good sleep.

I stopped eating breakfast. I was always told breakfast was the most important. I'm never really hungry in the morning I forced myself to do it because i thought i should. I'm finding out I don't have to eat breakfast. I have more energy, and I'm less hungry throughout the day. It was the best thing I ever did. I don't eat until at least 11:30 or noon, and I'm better for it, and I'm losing weight❤

I’ve been doing 30% protein, 30-40% carbs, 30-40% fats for a while now, and I feel great, I’ve lost weight, my skin looks great and my energy levels are better than ever. I eat oatmeal about twice to three times a month when I’m craving sweet, creamy things (always around my period). I do rolled oats boiled in full-fat goat milk, add vanilla extract, Stevia or Allulose to sweeten, a pinch of salt and abit of cinnamon or nutmeg. I top with crushed almonds and walnuts, pumpkin seeds, ground flax seed, chopped up 70% dark chocolate and chopped fruits (usually banana or berries). If I’m feeling abit extra, I even add abit of ghee or pure butter. I eat it warm, and it’s not just delicious, but so comforting and satisfying when I’m PMSing and craving carbs…my body is just wired to crave carbs + fat + sweet and/or creamy things during that time of the month. Sometimes I’ll also make chicken Alfredo using low-carb pasta and chicken breast during that time eventhough I don’t usually care for it, I try to make the healthiest version of it without compromising taste too much.

I do eat oatmeal everyday BUT I use 1/4 cup of organic rolled oats soaked in 1 cup of Greek yogurt for 8 hours topped with 1/2 cup of wild blueberries and 1/4 cup of walnuts. Soaking them in Greek yogurt and eating it cold turns it into resistance starch for my microbiome and with the protein in the yogurt and fat in the walnuts that really blunts any blood sugar spike. I've been eating oats for breakfast literally from the day I was born. I stopped eating oats when I started keto, and gradually I got arthritis in my fingers. One morning I couldn't move any of my fingers at all. At that point for other reasons (for better bowel movements) I decided to start oatmeal again, I never expected it would have an effect on my arthritis, but miraculously the very next day, I regained movement in my fingers to a large extent. It was totally unexpected and at first I couldn't understand why my condition had improved so dramatically. The only thing I did differently was the oats! My guess is that the soluble fiber fed the good bacteria and reduced inflammation. But after seeing what you have to say about Chia seeds, I think I will give that a try! Thank you.

While adapting to keto it is so easy to get an imbalance in your electrolites due to the lack of carbohydrates. Also carbs get stored with water, if you don´t have carbs it´s easier to loose water and with that important minerals, such as magnesium, very important for your joints and muscles. I tried for about a month, just to experiment. Even though I knew this and paid attention by drinking water with some salt in the morning and taking mineral supplements, my body did not respond well. Yes agreed. Try and keep oats organic but yes we all different. If you check out Tim Spector he points out everyone has a different microbiome even identical twins so what satisfies our hunger for longest time within reason is individual . Also different people get different blood sugar spikes from different foods. Tim Spector said his wife who is french by birth didnt get massive spikes when eating French bread but Tim who loved french bread did so unfortunately he decided it best to avoid most of time unless it a special treat. They both used blood sugar monitors to analyse what gave them spikes and what didnt. The more you learn about nutrition the more I believe you realise there are no hard and fast one size fits all fixes just general rules that wise to follow such as reduce or cut out added sugars as much as possible , eat organic if you can afford, favour high fibre nutritionally dence foods in preference to hyper processed foods such as cake and Pringles. Let’s face it I find Pringles so addictive given half a chance I would eat an entire tube in an evening zero real nutrition just junk . I did stop eating crisps and cake/biscuits for around 10 months and guess what I lost 32 pounds………small modifications to diet swapping poor foods for better ones like 25 grams of nuts for Pringles can make a real difference.

Hi Doc. I can tell your not a fan of oats but you did talk about what is the magic of oatmeal. It is a good vehicle for the other foods that make it a great breakfast if your not a diabetic. I like to do what is called overnight quick oats with whole milk. My favourite combo is ground flax seed for extra fibre, nuts for more protein and fats, raisins, cinnamon and a little maple syrup which is lower on the glycemic index for a sugar. I went to that as my go to from store bought bread, peanut butter and jam. I feel it did help me lose some stubborn weight that I was having difficulty with and I am able to keep it off. I feel more satiated in the morning and I feel it gives my the energy for my workout and job. On my days off I do eggs. I’m a big breakfast guy would not miss it. The meal I could skip would be lunch or supper if I had a later lunch.

Thank you so much sir, I am gluten and corn intolerant, I now have high cholesterol after going low carb and recently added oats back. I tolerate them fine in a dense, clean, oatmeal breakfast muffin that I have with 1 piece of turkey bacon and 2 apples (all organic) but if I try to have it again later in the day, my body bogs down. I love your chia seed suggestion to increase the soluble fiber, which is why I added the oats back to begin with. Now I can reduce the oats, increase the chia and should do even better. My doctor liked the low carb and wanted me to stay with it as much as possible. I have a lot more energy on low carb than I ever did before. Thanks again for your help and expertise. If you understand macros and calories, you can program oats into your daily food without any issues.
My first meal of the day is 1/2 cup raw organic oats (just a little hot water stirred in), 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries, 4 whole eggs, 2oz white rice, 2oz raw beef liver, and 1tbsp cod liver oil. I use the oats and berries to achieve my daily carb and calorie goal.

I like eating oats with a tablespoon or two or strawberry jam cooked into it, depending on how much sweetness I want. I leave it slightly wet but without any added milk because I don't feel the need to add milk. It might be more sugar than some people might like, but any oats that I eat is generally great for the stomach due to the fermentation factor. Oats is also something that can be added to a host of savory dishes, breads, cookies and more, making this neutral grain such a nice addition to stockpile in the pantry.

I'm glad you pointed out that oats affect different people in different ways. I've always eaten oatmeal since I was a kid. Typically a bowl a day. Mind you, I use the plain whole grain oats (not the kind with the added sugar or treats in them) cooked with unpasteurized milk... with bananas and blueberries tossed in with some honey to top it off. Always fills me up, never leaves me feeling bloated or hungry.
A few of my friends would see me eating it and say it's bad for me and I was always like "how though?! What about it is bad?" I started eating oatmeal for breakfast a few months ago after experiencing painful gastritis and inflamed bowels and gut. I organic rolled oats, full sized, and I stay full for hours. I put some honey, salt and cinnamon in it, and sometimes some berries.
A couple of weeks ago the store didn't have my oats so I had to buy porridge oats. Also rolled, but much smaller in size, and after a few days I noticed that I got cravings and wanted more to eat less than an hour after later. I went back to my normal oats as soon as I could and again I stay full and satisfied for hours.
I avoid anything flour, sugar and even fruit and veggies because they mess up my gut and I get cravings and feel hungry all the time.
Oats on the other hand soothes my gut. I use it for pizza base, as tortillas and in baking and my gut is healing, I don't get cravings and I stay satisfied for hours afterwards.
Oh, and I used to either do intermittent fasting or eat scrambled eggs for breakfast.
Oats most DEFINITELY has an anti inflammatory effect on my body avd gut.
I think a lot of people don't understand that there is a difference between how the oats have been treated.

Traditional/rolled mostly, sometimes quick. (I get steel cut is supposed to be healthier, but costs more and takes longer to make.) As other folks mention, if you overeat the quantity, you likely will be drowsy. I had a constant insulin monitor for a month. I couldn't find steel cut oats so I bought rolled ones. I tested my blood sugar eating plain oatmeal (no salt); with full milk, a mix of flax, chia, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds; with live plain yoghurt; with cold pressed flax seeds. The RESULT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME: my blood sugar jumped high from a healthy range, but it came back down to normal within 15 minutes.
I still eat oats sometimes, namely because uncooked oats (basically untoasted, unsweetened granola) is WAY CHEAPER than chia, and it is filling and satisfying. Raw oats (occasionally I am forced to buy steamed ones) are also so sweet there's no need for sugar, but sometimes I add a spoonful of raw cacao powder or cinnamon for variety. It is also the fastest breakfast I can gulp down in a hurry - a big plus because I am not a morning person. It keeps me going until dinner time, or maybe I have a raw carrot for lunch with my water...
