Thile and co. can and will do anything at any time. Expect the unexpected. At RockyGrass’19 we were blessed with a full cover of Tony Rice’s classic album Church Street Blues. That’s how the festival ended and it was just way out of left field and awesome.
Watched the movie Love and Mercy about the life of Brian Wilson and his ups and downs, he was gifted as a musician and composer and this shows that talent.
Great musicians taking on an unlikely target, probably with little rehearsal time. It worked! Chris Thile and his collaborators are doing us a service with a wide range of live music. Go and do likewise.
Sorry to hear the show is cancelled; perhaps someday with this pandemic is over, it can reincarnate. I enjoy looking at older musical sections. Esp. like the Good Vibrations performance; never quite realized what a complex piece it is and what it takes to do it right. I watch this over and over again lately.

This was actually part of the birthdays segment on last year's Telluride broadcast - we just thought it would be good on its own for a little summer listening!
Amazing cover of an almost uncoverable song, unbelievable vocal harmonies. My only remark: instead of the violin (which tended to be too loud and have a crisp attack of the notes) I would have done the theremin part with a guitar with slide and e-bow. Chapeau to this outstanding group of musicians!!!!
Disagree. The violin was great, and it makes a point, which is that you don’t have to do anything electronically fancy: Portamento has always been with us, an essential component of music. If you wanted to substitute anything for the violin, I would say go even more elemental: How about simply the human voice?
@@KeelyBurnMusic if the goal were simply to “recreate” the song, why not just use a theremin? They’re available, inexpensive, and portable. But obviously that wasn’t the goal.

You kidding me? Brutal. Don’t cover it if you can’t. Music is too sacred. Especially theirs... Fawning over this is classic. A desire to memorialize at the expense of the craft.
Chris Thile is balls-to-the-wall insane and I love it.
Give that boy a Macarthur genius grant. Oh wait, they already did! Money well spent!
When you have seismic, indomitable talent you must surely fear nothing.
I really enjoyed your moment. Chris was delightful.
WOW...what a BLAST! See all the smiles on the stage....good, good vibrations
Love this version and Chris Thiel's antics.in making it all come together. Great musicianship and coming together on a complicated piece of music.
What a joy to behold. So love Sarah, Sara and Aoife. Well done. Covered a classic and made it your own.

Love Thile, adore "I'm with her", but I gotta confess I didn't think they'd be able to pull it off. I stand corrected. This was surprisingly awesome!
I had this exact thought. I was like, oof, no one should try to cover that song. I was wrong.
They can do anything!!
@@MojoMusicMedia I see that now. Will not make the same mistake again.

Smiling ear to ear! Incredible!!
All I’m going to say is, this performance helped me get through a tough time last year. Thanks Chris and friends.
Amazing..and what a setting...
Sweet cover❣️ 🥰 ✨ 👏 Right on 💜
Damn This Is GOOD! What A Crazy Talented Group Of Individuals. Absolutely Phenomenal...
Keeping Brian’s work alive!!!
As a lifelong Brian Wilson fan / geek I have to say this was truly fantastic!!!!! Well played y'all :-)
That hopping dance Chris does at the beginning is a perfect imitation of Mike Love's dancing style.
So good i'm in tears
One of the hardest songs to cover and they nailed it.
Watched the movie Love and Mercy about the life of Brian Wilson and his ups and downs, he was gifted as a musician and composer and this shows that talent.
Tout simplement magnifique !
That was incredibly fun to watch! If anyone could pull this off, it would be this group of musicians. Well done!

This is ace! Can't believe I'll be sitting in front of these guys in less than 2 weeks
Where?
@@leszektemplewicz3362 in Melbourne... also the night before in Brisbane, but further back that night

Chris is so crazy. I love it!
I wonder where they played. Camera shows beautiful scenery.

WOW. Amazing recreation.
Love, love, love!
Awesome!
THIS is what I needed today. ♥️
and every day. What a beautiful set and scenery.
As always, well done!
AWESOME!
Wow+ wow...this is a tough song that was studio produced and took countless hours to create. Congratulations on pulling this off. 🎶
If anyone hand't noticed, this is really bloody hard! haha
Wow! I first thought "It doesn't sound just totally 100%", but man I agree, this is NOT an easy song!
I would have said 'impossible' and I am happy to be proven wrong
@@Blondesax It i a wonderful performance, and so well done.

How did this not make the cut for the show!!! This was part of the June 29 Live From Here - all outtakes

Was thinking the same thing... that really threw it off for me.
Agreed on the violin. That was the only part I didn't care for. Otherwise, they did a great job recreating the song!
I saw the Beach Boys do it back in the 70s and they used a lap steel for that part.

💖
His voice is by far the closest to the beauty of Brian's that I have ever heard. I so appreciate his versions of BB songs.
You know how hard this is to do? The bass vocals definitely suffer but otherwise it’s a worthy attempt. 7.8 out of 10
So good! mmmmm hmmmm
Amazing performance !......so sorry for those few thumbs down people....almost makes you wonder what they call a thumbs up?.....naaaaaaaa nope .
outstanding! Chris needs to get a lot more visible. He is a great talent.

YIKES!!!
All these comments about Chris and no one mentioning the Steep Canyon Rangers. Sarah Watkins is over there too....
It was actually better in the original broadcast where the banjo player's voice (base) was higher in the mix.
OH DEAR.
Ridiculously talented in any genre.
Don't know who the drummer is but he is totally channelling Hal Blaine!
dlc1119 that’s the amazing Ted Poor!
@@sbennett5224 thank you!

SOOOO a-doggamned good!
