Boy I miss LFH and all the magic moments that graced us each week. Always brilliant.
They took the song, and just wrung every last drop of soul from it. And the audience a cappella part was maybe the highlight. Live music gets no better, and there's not much better in life than live music, so...

These "Live From Here" videos come across my feed, and I'm filled with mourning that LFH died from COVID. Such fabulous sets.
The look on Aoife's face when they crash back in after the audience sings is everyone.
An ensemble effort like this demonstrates how bone-headed the cancellation of LFH was...
Acoustic music simply doesn't get any better than this. Aoife is such a treasure.

It is moments like these that show why LFH will produce pure musical brilliance. Take a classic song, add audience sing-a-long, an improvisational jam, along with Aoife's Crooked Still band mates,
then enjoy the listening bliss they create. Love the dual fiddling (goosebumps).
Damn, Chris is singing like a champ nowadays. I love this song. Makes me so homesick for the good ol' days in the Blue Ridge of my youth. Love from Bangkok.

This is superb. My daughter recently commented that music is good for the soul, live music invigorates it. This is a perfect embodiment of that sentiment.

Actually the song Rain and Snow is decades older than bluegrass. :-)
If you wanna be a real purist about it, you probably shouldn't even hear a drum in a bluegrass song.

Being in the house at Town Hall that night was simply magical. Sitting in the 5th row singing low harmony when Chris turns and calls the audience; like the house was just another member of the band. That is a thrilling, you are not going to forget This any time soon, maybe ever, kind of moment.

Twas a serendipitous morphing of their two bands - Chris's AND Aoife's, on a perfectly ancient song, & Chris knows just how to wring every drop of fun out of a LFH encore including audience participation in a soulful a cappella slow ending. but does he stop there? No! 2, 3, 4 jumps back into a righteously rollicking rocking instrumental finale, O! M! G!

Is that the story? This was spontaneous response to audience request? It's the best single song I've ever heard; I'm 80 years old. The energy and communication are like none other
@@estherleedavenport5273 yes, Esther Lee- I was there in the live audience that night, and much to Chris's delight, someone shouted out this request spontaneously, in the moment. Chris replied something along the lines of "well, someone's been thinkin'!" and proceeded to coordinate the band in preparation of playing this song in this style. The only word that comes to my mind for what happens at the Town Hall is: magic.
I should also add the relevance of the request for context: the unofficial "theme" of that show's evening was "weather," so obviously this impromptu suggestion was highly apropos.

Chris is like Tommy Emanuel a genius that loves seeing other people play well...
What a fantastic performance. Tasteful solos from each, and that morphing from bluegrass lament to a sort of slow jam to full on bluegrass, then to an almost soul/power ballad. Then the audience singing under Chris's direction. Wonderful.
Love the tempo and sultry drive in this song.
Chris Thile constantly surrounds himself with the best talent. This is outstanding. He is a genius !

She got my attention when I found Crooked Still but she keeps showing me things... like Yo-Yo Ma... he's been in my awareness for years but it was with Aoife and Chris on 'Here and Heaven' that I finally /got/ it...

Chris, Knowing that the vocals were weak - but the instrumentation Perfection - and integrated both into the end by forcing correction.
Ended abruptly, but appropriately, on an instrumental masterpiece.
Be easier to just practice the singing at least a Few times first be easier... but, instrumentally?

Does anyone know the name of the banjo player, he looks very much like the man who played banjo during the Springsteen Seeger Sessions Tour.
Never mind figured it out, Greg Liszt, and yes a member of Springsteen's Seeger Session touring band, fantastic player.

@@anthonysalvati5868 Liszt was alsto the banjo player in Crooked Still w/ O'Donovan. Definitely check them out if you've never heard of them.
If my memory serves he created that funky 4 finger banjo style, some banjo nerd-dom but it stands out. Great player.
