The fact Carl smoked so much and still had an amazing voice this entire time is a true testament to how great of a voice he and Brian and Dennis were as singers
My voice teachers always said that smoking improves the voice. Look at Frank Sinatra.
Aaron Hagstrom It’s a deadly habit, but you have a point. I think Adele smokes. That’s one reason she sounds like she does.
Al jARDINE is the greatest singer in the world today because he didn't smoke
I so wish Carl could have quit, his death was a terrible loss. A beautiful person and a true professional to the end.
@@matthewclark7952 God only knows...
Carl Wilson is such an underappreciated musician. What a voice.
I love your comment but I don't think anyones ever underappreciated carls voice
Your comment contradicts itself.
dude , he is NOT underappreciated. Browse around UA-cam. He is totally acknowledged and appreciated.
Right??????!!!!!!!!!
I do not think Carl was underappreciated when you read all the comments on most of the musicians he has worked with or was friend with It is just that he was not a show off as Mike Love who always wanted (and still wants) to be the focal point
The way I remember this is like this. It was one of the first times the world saw Brian Wilson after many years of being reclused. He was fit but didn't look performance ready. It was fantastic to see him, many people thought he would never pull out from the depths of his darkest days during the 70's. Brian here is still was under the control of Eugene Landy, God only knows what drugs were being used to numb his performances. Very sadly Denis Wilson had died a few years earlier. Carl Wilson is the only Wilson holding a fragmented band together here.
@Patrick Trist he will be, those that know, know
@Patrick Trist - McCartney himself said Pet Sounds was a great album.
leokimvideo 👍.
@@rjjcms1 - What is that in English?
@@scootergeorge9576 Agreeing with the original comment, posted by leokimvideo.
This sounds so good with headphones on and the fact it's live... That's not easy. Great performance.
Carl Wilson is my favourite singer of all time. That expression and that transition between head and chest voice is unbelievable.
Carl was the glue that held the Beach Boys together vocally and as a band. RIP.
The glue that held together the gears of the Beach Boys.
@@andrewdevine3920 I agree with your comment except that you don't want gears to stick together. I would have gone with oil or WD-40. Carl kept the gears of the Beach Boys moving smoothly. Still completely agree with you though.
I heard he did play an instrumental role in getting rid of Eugene Landy and saving his brother Brian from his control.
Carl was the backbone of the Beach Boys, and I love him.
So why did they continue to be together after he was dead?
I can't believe how great Live Aid was.
It was....it was! I HAVE SEEN IT ALL ON TV AT THE TIME 33 YEARS AGO
It was better than it looks in these videos. The raw energy, the talent, the sheer positiveness and conviction of doing something good for the world. Every artist being played on the radio, on mtv, all of them, playing in one concert, going on in several places at once. To this day, still historic.

i love the whole “Gotta keep those lovin good vibrations” segment with the crowd, shows how big the song really was that so many people knew it
Saw them in concert late 70s/early 80s (would have to dig out the ticket stub). What I remember the most is this song and the audience participation. Blew my mind. I don't recall if Mike yammered while we all sang. I wish he hadn't here.
@@jmmlpn286 Mike earned the right to do whatever he pleased. He wrote the lyrics to what I think is one of the best songs of the 1960s and which is synonymous with the Beach Boys.
The Beach Boys were really a like a human body when you think about it.
Brian was the brain, Dennis was the heart, Carl was the soul, Al was the spirit, and Mike was the asshole.
Mike was the feet, he kept the band moving and without him they would have been content to sit on their ass for the last 35 years. He gets no respect, but Brian knows you need to take good care of your feet, because he's still cashing paychecks from MIke's endless touring. Why some fans feel the need to hate certain members is beyond me. Small minded thinking.
@@LyonsArcade Brian never needed Mike's money. He was already cashing checks constantly from "Good Vibrations" or the "Pet Sounds" album, as it was REALLY making bank a few years after initial release in the U.S. and almost immediately everywhere else. The Beach Boys didn't need to go on as long as they have been. They ran their course, and Mike was the only one ever publicly opposed to the idea of stopping, or at least as a touring band. Everyone else didn't seem to mind the idea, seeming it'd been a little more than 20 years that they were at it, and Brian was going through hell and back almost always. Maybe mention that the fans don't like Mike Love because he generally just didn't care for Brian's poor condition for so long, or the fact that he makes it clear he's a perverted old man with an ego, and doesn't hide it? Hell, he'll even gloat about being like that, sometimes. The beach Boys' as a touring band is a water logged corpse of a formerly amazing horse, that's being whipped constantly by Mike love, or should I say "The little douche coupe". He is an average singer at best, and that's all he's offered besides dumbing down Brian's work. Brian would make some big mistakes in his music on occasion, but he'd almost immediately go back to cranking out masterpiece by the dozens. (And not to mention, Capitol basically required him legally to make some of his less than favorable tunes.) Mike has only been keeping things rolling, because he knows the money will end for nobody involved but him, once it's finally over. He's not continuing it for the music, fans, or anything. It's for money, and having people to go "I'm better then you!" at, and make creepy jokes about cheerleading outfits, in front of. Mike is still a Beach Boy, nobody can deny that at least.... But that doesn't mean he's not worthless. He is. Enough said.
What’s the difference between heart, soul and spirit?
@@LyonsArcade you really found a way to twist things
Lol! You got that right!
Carl Wilson was such a gift to this world.
Brian and Carls unmistakable unique voices
This song has more music in it than most albums.
Weapons Education most modern albums
I really want to like the comment. But it's on 69 likes and I can't ruin that.
Yeah , 'couse it's a synphony
@Gus Woodgate Well it's way over 69 so it's been ruined for awhile. So get yo ass back here to this video and like the comment now.
Weapons Education,
How Right You Are!
Carl's hitting those high notes beautifully. Sounded great.
God bless Carl Wilson. Such an amazing performer. RIP
No matter how imperfect the sound is, There's never a single time when I don't end up feeling soooo nice when listening to the Beach Boys . Looove the BB's and always will. They are FUN, FUN, FUN !!!
The sound is almost perfect here. Terrific
Agreed. If you watch the Kennedy Center honors for Brian Wilson, there's a point where the entire audience gets up and starts clapping and dancing. It's really hard not to with a lot of Brian's music.
I love how at 2:50 you can see Brian not clap together with the band or sing together with them, but just wave his arms and conducted his own little pocket symphony.
He heard music differently i think then most people did
He probably didn't know where he was. I honestly don't know why they even kept dragging him around with them.
@@robertciscoe9318he was under the influence of drugs from Dr Langley or whatever his name was but he was part of a good band from the sixty's
This sounds astonishingly good. These guys had real talent. The vocals are so in tune. Blown away.
Same reaction for me. I was 20 watching on TV when this was going on, but I don't remember too many performances.
I've been on a Beach Boys binge for 5 days now. This video my favorite. I love Carl's voice and he grew to be such an handsome man. The LOVE & Admiration Carl, Brian and Dennis had for each other was so beautiful.
Time to get some Tommy Bahama!
Rest In Peace Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, Billy Hinsche, and Jeffrey Foskett, you all are missed.
Remember this like it was yesterday. I was one of the 100000 plus attendees. 37 years later I’ll never forget that awesome day.
Was there, from Philly burbs. Miss JFK in general...
Yes, I was there that day as well. Saw them perform in front of the art museum steps for a July 4th concert the year they weren't invited back to DC to perform because it was feared that they would draw the "wrong element" to DC that day
I remember President Ronald and Nancy Reagan being pretty upset about that and apologized to them for that screw up.
Im happy for you
I was the girl standing next to you!! Great show!!xx
Carl Wilson is so underrated. Seriously the man should be included like in the top 20 Rock vocalists of all time. With such an iconic voice in songs like Good Vibrations and God Only Knows. And also an amazing guitar player.
Javier Torres you wouldn’t think a heavy smoker would sing like that.
Carl should at least be in the Top 10 Greatest Singers of all time.
I don’t think he sang lead on the Good Vibrations single.
Incorrect. He did, indeed.
Feel Flows
Carl Wilson was the glue of the Beach Boys. They were never the same after he passed.
I have never seen anyone post a negative comment about Carl. What a talent. Gone too soon
And I have never seen anyone post a positive comment about Mike. What a douche. Still alive!
You ever see a positive post about
Hateful Mikey?
Mikey "Love." The original Douche
Coupe!
Matt Jardine, Alan's son, has about the
best falsetto I've ever heard. PERIOD!
Carl's was better!
steve
Yes Denny too :(
Either have I. Mikey,
not so much.

I've seen exactly 1 comment where someone put down Carl and whoever wrote it sounded like Carl stole his girlfriend or something. Can't remember what it said but something along the line that he was a poser, of some other stupid nonsense. But yeah, that's one negative comment in a sea of praise and positive comments about the man, and rightfully so!
To perform this difficult song without alot of preparation in this setting...just shows the incredible talent these guys had.
Carl's voice is just so awesome. Love the suit he was sporting.
God bless Carl. He kept this thing together--and not poorly. He really made it work.
I can't believe how great Live Aid was.
I love how Carl just sails into that beautiful falsetto. Unearthly.
Great to see Brian playing onstage with the rest of the lads there
I think, but not sure, if that's Brian's mentalist (Landy) way off to the right of the stage?
In Philly born and sadly missed this performance. I so wish I had seen them. God bless Carl. One of the best if not best voices of our lifetime
My favourite bit is right at the beginning when Carl interrupts Mike's bs and just starts the song. 😂
Best thing for everybody really.
😂😂😂
Mike Love man he made the band...🙂
Carl look disgusted at this ranting moron and just cut him off.
@@paul-thestupid1761 The Wilsons made the beach boys...
In addition to his musical talents and his big heart, Carl was one snappy dresser!
World class-they belong up there.
Carl, bless him, was a fantastic singer and musician...taken far to early...RIP Carl.
“Good Vibrations” and “Kokomo” are two of my favorite songs along with many other songs by The Beach Boys. I had the privilege to see The Beach Boys in 2012 and it was definitely one of my favorite concerts ever. The Beach Boys paid loving tribute to Dennis Wilson and Carl Wilson which was nice to see.
Nice. Dennis’s “Forever” is very underrated (though still probably the most well known of his songs, in my opinion the best songwriter in the group after Brian), it was so nice to see them pay tribute to him with it (same with Carl and God Only Knows)
@@charliestoops8815 "Forever" was indeed Dennis' signature piece but my favorites were "The River Song" and "Baby Blue." I truly appreciate your opinion of Dennis' song writing skills as being second only to Brian's brilliance. Thank You Charlie! RIP Denny and Carl...
Of course! “Baby Blue” is a great song, same with “River Song” from Pacific Ocean Blue, far and away the best solo album but out by a Beach Boy and one of the most underrated of the 1970s, it’s a favorite of mine. My favorite Dennis song is probably “(Wouldn’t It Be Nice to) Live Again”, an outtake from the Surf’s Up sessions that was eventually released in the 2010s. Great tune, the extended version on the channel “Big Joe’s Beach Boys” I highly recommend.
Carl was always my favorite Beach Boy. I got to see one of his last peformances ever on his last tour with the Beach Boys.
Hard to believe this song was less than 20 years old at the time.
The first concert I ever attended was in 1988 in Burlington, Iowa at Steamboat Days. The Beach Boys were the headliners. I am now 45 going on 46 and I am forever hooked on their music. In my humble opinion, they are the GREATEST OF ALL-TIME.
Carl was slim and trim here and singing beautifully, as usual!
Old legends, what The Beach Boys did for rock will never be forgotten.
Every vowel, every register transition, every note duration, pitch, tone, everything has to be near perfect with vocals of this calibur.
Brian Wilson was truly the real genius of the boys.
There's joy in this stellar performance of a heavenly beautiful song. But when I see Carl like that, I feel sadness too. He left this world way too young.
Wow wow wow!!! Live Aid wouldn't be the same without the Beach Boys represent. God bless everyone and thank you for sharing
Carl Wilson had an absolute pitch. That's what made him such a great live performer also. Doesn't sing a single off note
Carl is my all time favorite singer.
I miss The Beach Boys. They were and still are the best.
Carl had such an iconic voice. You can pick it out of almost any Beach Boys recording.
Mike Love is like the guy who puts no effort into the group project but takes all of the credit because he's the only one who's not shy when presenting.
Carl's voice is simply ethereal. Both Brian and Carl had that beautiful falsetto, but I thought Carl's was a little more natural.
Carl was the glue that kept them together. When he passed that was the end. Now were left with two factions and neither one will bend.
The not-Mike Love faction should never bend.
Mike Love is a douchenozzle that basically stole the group.
He was a co-vocalist, that's it. Barely played anything, wrote even less, and mostly leeched off the success.
Why would anybody bend to that tool?
I love this video. I remember seeing The Beach Boys in the early to mid 1990's while Carl Wilson was still alive. He sounded great in the concerts I was at but he seems more lively in this video which is great. He sounds great in this video too and sounded great in the concerts I saw him in. It is such a shame we lost Carl at such a young age since he is such an inspiration to me and probably others. I wish I had met him personally. Carl was definitely a quality person and also definitely the glue that held the Beach Boys together. This is a great video.
I met Carl many times. I'm sure you would have liked him. He was humble,"darlin'", and very, very funny. He always gave credit to others, and rarely to himself. Did I mention HUMBLE? And obviously extremely talented. He sang when he wasn't on stage, too. He had perfect pitch. Such a loss. He was one of a kind.💝
missed two chances to see them, but Carl and Dennis were gone, so I felt lost without them.
Mike Love trying to pump up the crowd while screaming over them. Classic
So brave to do this song live......
And it works perfectly.......!!
Every time I saw the Beach Boys live in concert I was blown away! One of my favorite bands in high school
I miss Carl sooo much!! He was such a professional, in comparison to Mike Love, who was sooo full of himself and never knew when to shut up!!! Carl was the voice of the Beach Boys, so smooth and fantastic…in the same way Brian was the heart of the Beach Boys with his huge musical talent!!! Mike Love would be nowhere without them!
I miss Carl too.
Carl Wilson......classy dresser.....classy guy.
Gotta be hot as heck in those suit jackets, though.
@@peterpinsent9304 No argument from me.
I was there! One of the best days of my life!
Perhaps the greatest vocal rock band of all time. Its too bad Dennis had just passed before this show. Live Aid was the days before corporate greed as it is today with all the streaming services. My best high school friend and I watched this concert FOR FREE back in that day.
RIP Carl Wilson 😢😢. Such a talented, underrated singer.
Carl carried them in this performance...and Mike knows it
That's the absolute truth .

Carl Wilson was an amazing musician! God Bless, Carl! :)
Carl was a fabulous singer, musician. The Beach Boys sound very good here.
This song was 19 years old in 1985! The Beach Boys came out of retirement for this event.
Good Vibrations from Sault Ste Marie Ontario. This World really needs Them.
Brian's voice is just so gorgeous and affecting.
Man I wish Carl was still alive. RIP.
That performance went far beyond all my expectations. I know the Beach Boys' music very well and it's nice to see them together at this later stage of their carreer. If only Dennis had sobered up and still been around to play … :)
Post 1968, Dear Dennis was a tortured soul. Nearly 40 years after his passing I still miss him and wish that He could have found his peace and would still be with us today. RIP Denny...
Classic lineup! Takes a while, but they finally get Brian in the shot. Nice performance.
The Beach Boys are a NATIONAL TREASURE, IMO... 😆👍
this always makes me cry, it’s so nice 😭

real singers singing for real. Not like one of Superbowl show I watched I even dont remember.
Beach boys among the greatest😍
I pray that when I get to Heaven I will hear Carl humming a tune.
The wonderful voice of Carl Wilson
Al Jardine doesn’t get enough credit! Always shows up, no drama, and he does his job. Help Me Rhonda is one of my favorites, because it’s HIS song.
It’s amazing, The Beach Boys we’re attracting huge crowds in the 80s. Now they can barely fill the casinos they play at. Sad how time flies.
This is (was) a true hero, for his brother and everyone.
The diversity in music acts alone was stunning at Live Aid.
Carl was by far one of the Best best-looking guys ever. We 1946ers are a wonderful group. Miss you every day.
I've always enjoyed hearing Carl Wilson sing lead. Miss him. RIP.
What a band and what a story. Will always enjoy their music. As is said, "There are somethings in life that are timeless" - the Beach Boys and their music is one of those things.
Man Carl’s voice....beautiful
Oh, god, this side of the concert was amazing too. 😻
Carl is carrying this performance
I saw the Beach Boys at the Puyallup (Washington state) Fair in the late 80s..... We spent all day at the fair, even though the BB werent set to start until 7pm. Around 4pm we were walking along the main route near the rodeo/fair stage, and suddenly a couple of cops showed up and halted foot traffic. In a few moments a limo slowly drove by..... as it drove right past me I looked into the back seat and saw Carl Wilson just just sitting there, emotionless. I remember thinking how sad and unhappy he looked. In any event, they put on a hell of a good show that night.
wow ...that was unbelievable ...news worthy
What beautiful vocals Carl had

What a Beast of a band. Gosh. Legends.
Why was I born after this concert dangit. I'm going through videos and just... WOW
Absolute masterpiece even in live version.
Real musicians, this song is tough enough in the studio; yet they make it look easy live.
