English Translation:
Turn up the fire! We are going to eat tchaka!
Turn up the fire, stir up the corn, don’t forget the salt pork,
We are going to eat a delicious tchaka.
We are going to cook up a mind-blowing stew.
At the sound of the three drums, everyone yells out hurray.
If we join together we can all move forward.
Let us enmesh in lovely harmony
A delicious homemade stew, a musical tchaka.
It’s a delicious homemade stew, a national tchaka,
A delicious homemade stew…
Turn up the fire! Turn up the fire!
*Yanvalou, Kontredans, Rabòday are amazing.
Roots music, oh yes, that’s good stuff.
Let’s stick together; side by side we can move forward.
Turn up the fire! Turn up the fire! The tchaka is cooking!
*Ibo, Bolero, Banda, Mayi, Congo, Petro, Maskaron…
These are the rhythms of our roots.
We danced *Kalinda and we sang Rabòday,
Heads together, with love, let us do great things.
Turn up the fire! Turn up the fire!
We proclaimed hope and we sang of peace,
So that the light of justice spreads throughout the earth.
We’ll keep on singing…
We’ll keep on singing to make life more beautiful!
In justice and in love, let’s eat a delicious tchaka!
Amen!
Let’s eat a delicious tchaka!

Suban el fuego! Vamos a comer tchaka!
Mantengamos juntos; lado a lado podemos avanzar.
Suban el fuego! Suban el fuego! El tchaka se está cocinando!
*Ibo, Bolero, Banda, Mayi, Congo, Petro, Maskaron…
Amen!
Comamos un delicioso tchaka!

Chofe dife! Nou pral manje tchaka!
Chofe dife, brase mayi, pa bliye tisale,
Nou pral manje yon bon tchaka.
Nou pral voye monte yon bouyon tèt chaje.
Twa tanbou yo frape, tout moun rele anmwe.
An nou pote kole pou nou tout ka vanse.
An nou makonnen ansanm nan yon bèl amoni
Yon bon bouyon lakay, yon tchaka mizikal.
Se yon bon bouyon lakay, yon tchaka nasyonal,
Se yon bon bouyon lakay…
Chofe dife! Chofe dife!
Yanvalou, Kontredans, Rabòday se gwo koze.
Mizik lakay, o wi se bèl bagay.
Pote kole; kòtakòt n’ape vanse.
Chofe dife, chofe dife, tchaka ape monte!
Ibo, Bolero, Banda, Mayi, Congo, Petro, Maskaron...
Mizik sa yo se konpa lakay.
Nou danse Kalinda, nou chante Rabòday,
Tèt ansanm, nan renmen, an nou fè bèl bagay.
Chofe dife! Chofe dife!
Nou proklame lespwa e nou chante lapè,
Pou limyè la jistis blayi sou tout latè.
N’ap kontinye chante…
N’ap kontinye chante pou fè lavi pi bèl!
Nan jistis, nan renmen, an nou manje yon bon tchaka!
Ayibobo!
An’n manje yon bon tchaka!

singing this in a choir is an experience larger than life itself
Singing in a big choir in general is in general
For real
Thank you for writing the best bassline ever
@@josephgoodwin8930 haha you’re welcome! 😁 what’s your favorite section?
Why is this litterally THE BEST CHOIR SONG EVER! So much emotion swimming in the different complex harmonies and rhythms!!!!!
Because it's AYISYEN ❤❤🇭🇹🇭🇹🇭🇹
Yes I do get this excited about soup and, after performing this with my all state choir senior year, it was a lot of fun walking to the local chickfila as a vast ocean of soup and music lovers
I was part of the Nebraska all-state choir that sang this and this was easily the best song I've ever sang in my life.
DIEHARD_100 I second that. I was in it along with you!
It's so awesome to hear that! You guys were so great to work with.
I'm singing it in two months in the Illinois all-state choir and you're making me really excited!

I just graduated and I learned that this is gonna be a Texas all state piece. HUHHH WHYYY THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN SO FUN TO LEARN. I’m jealous
I hope you will get the opportunity to sing it with another choir!

Sung this at Southern ACDA this year! Thank you for such an amazing experience and such a great song.
Whew. What a workout.
hahaha it was a workout to write it too! :)
Can't wait to sing it, though. Getting the pronunciation down will probably be the hardest part! :)
I absolutely LOVE this song! I can never get enough of it. My school choir is singing it this year and I had to go ahead of the class because I couldn't stand not knowing all of it. This is by far my favorite choir song.
Wow! That’s really awesome to know! Thanks for taking the time to let me know. It’s encouraging that’s for sure! Which part do you sing, and which school?
@@sydneyguillaume I sing tenor and I go to a school in Virginia
Whenever I hear this song, I always describe it as a rainbow. It's just such a colorful piece of joy and celebration. I first sang this at a Florida All-State, and it always brightens up my day whenever I hear it!!
So great to read that, Vicky - - the power of music! :)
Florida All State 2020. Had an absolutely wonderful time, best choir event I've ever had, one of the best moments in my life. Best 18th birthday I could ask for. Sydney, if you read this, thank you so much for making this! It brought so much unity and joy to us all, and I'm sure it has for all the others. We figured out how to sing measure 130, don't worry, your call helped us out :)
Nutik Wulf Aw!! Happy birthday!! And thank you for letting me know. I got to see a little clip of the choir having a blast singing it during rehearsal - it was awesome! You guys rock!!
Nutik Wulf I just posted that rehearsal video on Instagram! :)
#TchakaSG

My school did this sophomore year and got our first 1 at our district music contest in a hot minute and this song was easily our favorite. Junior year, our seniors ahead of us who had grown up with our choir director from their freshman year were graduating and on one of their last days while we cleaned up/prepared music for other concerts, we broke out into Tchaka, almost without his direction, and sang it pretty well for not singing it for a whole year at that time.
For the next two years, whoever was a part of the ensemble that sang Tchaka, we at least sang up to part G I believe at any given time. 😂😭 take me back!
I've sang this master pieces on several different occasion and I can say honestly every time I sing it I fall in love with it over and over again! This is a amazing piece and I just want to say thank you for bringing this into the world! The message is Strong and I love how something so simple as soup can bring people together in love and unity. Thank you for this.
orestes cooper Aw. thank you for your kind words!
Looks like TMEA ALL STATE SMALL CHOIR IS SINGING THIS, Syd. Congrats
Thank you, Brandon! It’s a great honor! 🙏🏾
i’m terrified, but i’m excited at the same time if that makes sense
I sang this in 2019 for Villa Park High School's Madrigals choir. I still remember when you came and visited our class and talked to us about our performance. Thank you for making such an amazing communal piece of music, and thank you so much for making it so much gosh dang fun to sing!
Awe! My pleasure!! 😁 thank you for your kind words :)
Hey Sydney, my name is Keith Sheppard. I just wanted to thank you for this piece! I am a tenor 2 in the PHS A Capella Choir, and this was the highlight of the competition for us. I remember that when we practiced it in class Mrs. McClain would put on a really cool beat (to keep tempo) and we'd dance to it while singing. Sometimes we'd be too busy dancing to actually focus on pure vowels and the likes lol. This was an awesome song to perform, and I wanted to commend you and your father for composing it. God bless!
Keith the Sheep wow Keith! Really great to read your comment. Thanks so much for sharing that with me!
no problem, take care sir!
As a sophomore in high school, I had the privilege of being conducted by Mr. Guillaume at SCSU's Big Sing event in 2020, which ended up being the last choir I sang in right before the pandemic.
This year, as a freshman in college, I decided to join a choir again, and was rightfully excited to learn we would be singing Tchaka.
I should go to bed since it's past midnight, but that technically means we're performing this song today! I'm so excited! Thanks for making your music that is groovy with a good message!
I remember that Big Sing event very well - it was also one of my last pre-pandemic concerts which I cherished very much!
Have a meaningful performance today!!
@@sydneyguillaume Thanks! It went great!
3:00 he's doing it again.
working on this song again, but as a percussionist instead of a vocalist this time, since i last did it in 2019/2020!! i also made tchaka for my choir and you to try, & it was truly one of the most memorable (and delicious) experiences i’ve had in choir :)
GET THIS MAN A SHIELD
Novin Nekoui why a shield?
Sydney Guillaume black panther reference. great song btw
Novin Nekoui ah! Got it! Thank you! :) 🙏🏾
It’s been over a year since I’ve sang this at ILMEA and I still come back to it so often, I even wrote my final analysis on this piece for my final semester in high school. This piece is truly special.
Thanks so much, Emma! 🙏🏾
It would be really cool to read your analysis on it if you don’t mind sending it to my email (sydney@sydneyguillaume.com).
Best choir song forever
We're singing this in choir and it's such a cool piece and so fun to sing as a group!
I'm part of the Robinson Singers in Virginia and we are performing this song later on in the year and it is easily the most challenging song I have ever had to learn but it is my favorite

Fantastic piece :)
I had to sing this as one of my all state audition songs last year and in the middle of this song, my music stand fell over and I got disqualified and I was so upset because Tchaka was my favorite piece out of all our songs and I didn't get to sing it :(
